- I am often asked about research- how to get involved in a research project, how much research is needed in medical school, and how to succeed in research. In this video, I share my experience doing research in college, medical school, and now residency!
I am definitely not an expert in research as I have no formal laboratory research training, but I hope that by sharing my experiences I can encourage others to take on exciting new projects!

Hello, Andrea! Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you can do another video pairing with this one on specifics regarding how you organize and go about presenting you research projects... For instance, do you use project boards to present your research, and if so, how do you typically organize the project boards? As for the research paper itself, do you do it in APA format and when citing, do you use a specific program to help with that? Also, when presenting your research projects, what process do you go through to organize HOW you'd like to go about presenting it. Such as, do you use flash cards to help you organize a step by step or do you memorize it all? Also, can you physically show what one of your research projects would look like just so that I can get an actual visual on how it's organized? Along with that, what camera do you use to film? Thank you for all that you do!

I have a question about research. It's something that I would like to get involved in, but I am not a traditional med school applicant. I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree. Are there opportunities once you are out of your undergrad to get involved with research? (I'm taking a year off now before applying to medicine.)

Hi Andrea, I think you had a video a really long time ago called "when it rains, it pours" or something along those lines, and it really made me feel better after a bad day. If you still have it on your channel please unprivate it if you want to! Great video & new video quality :)
Research as an undergrad really forces you to time-manage! I think experiences can be great or bad depending on the supervisor and lab you're in. It's so important to get along with your supervisor, never feel obligated to do research with someone who you just don't like. Not having a recommendation letter from your supervisor is a major red flag!

hi Andrea, hi everyone. I just presented the application for med school at the university of Balamand in lebanon (waiting for a reply). I love research, and I want to do research as much as I can but the thing is our country already doesn't have those high research standards except at very few institutions so I would have to travel outside to find that opportunity but I just don't know how or what to do. Any help? I'm really struggling because I have to have a good application for residency to get accepted to colleges in the US where hopefully I can be a neurosurgeon, and I want to keep doing research.
How did you have time to participate in your first research project during the 1st year of Medical School?
I barely have time to do my assignments and to study for exams. I would really like to get involved in a research project

Do you think it is really critical to have "research experience" prior to medical school application? I used quotation marks because research these days in undergrad equates to pipetting for hours on end or washing test tubes. There is no real research associated with it.
I have focused my entire undergraduate time on clinical experience (surgery intern, scribe, EMT, tutor...) but I still feel like I will be looked down upon because I didn't wash test tubes like 90% of other candidates.
I have zero interest in medical related research. I plan on not applying to any research centered medical schools.
