Batman's paranoia is justified. What probably stung him the most was Zatanna's betrayal. If he can't trust the one hero who was with him since he was a child and who he was comfortable linking his mind to . Then how can he trust the others.

i agree. when i first got into comics the JSA run that started in 2007 was one of the first full runs i got my hands on. i always thought most of the characters were cool i wasn’t really too familiar with them like i was the JLA but man did i instantly want to dive right into it after the first few issues. now the JSA is probably my favorite DC superhero team and i’ve got a special attachment for a lot of 2000s to pre 2010s DC comics. i really enjoyed a lot of the new 52 too where i know a lot of people didn’t (or at least ride the bandwagon and say they didn’t 😂)

Essentially, Ted figured out all of Maxwell Lord's plan before even Batman (due to the paranoia fallout) and tried to warn literally everyone. Unfortunately, outside of Wonder Woman listening to him out of pity, no-one would give Ted the time of day forcing him to try to stop it in a suicide mission, which cost him his life. The worst part of all of this is Booster Gold, just looking at everyone in absolute disgust and calling them out for it for the rest of the story, and everyone knows he's right. Because for once, the comic relief guy is the straight man because they got his best friend killed. Hell, the only reason Booster didn't blast Batman's ass with a well placed laser is because Superman took the hit and calmed him down.
They messed with his mind, making him mentally unstable. It had actual psychological affects on him. Which they knew about but refused to acknowledge until the cats out of the bag. In Babel, They kicked him out of the Justice League for not trusting them after he went through this. He didn’t Consciously know about the mind fuckery until afterwards. They Planted a deep distrust in their partnership. After all, if they were willing to do that to a friend, what’s stopping them from doing worse to anyone else… which they did to Doctor Light.
