Been following you channel for a long while now. Been using Maya since Maya 4, so about 20ish years now.... Now, trying to learn to use Blender! And your videos have been great!
Great video! Love all your content and the cheat sheet. One thing I've discovered about the simple deform mod is that whatever you bend should be aligned how you want along the X axis. Once I started doing that it's worked well. Thanks for all you do!
that's a convenient and quick way to add support loops. i was using the add edge loop all along but now that i figured out it can be done quickly and more accurately by the bevel tool i'm feeling stupid about myself hahaha. the never ending process of learning. nice share!
A little tip for the last method, when you say things like you prefer it to be a little thinner but that's no problem since this is all procedural... it would be really procedural if you keep the Array modifiers and change height and diameter by changing the count in the modifiers instead of deleting geometry in Edit Mode. Oh, and you do not have to enable the Snap tool, you can just hold Ctrl for temporary snapping while moving the pieces. But don't get me wrong, great tutorial nevertheless!
Thank you for the video! If you want to merge verts through nodifiers you can use weld modifier. I used this to quickly merge all of the verts that I missed. You can kinda go non-destructive with this modifiers if you want, though I quickly applies it... just in case I forgotten about it. 🙃
Nice explanation video! But as someone who wants to get started It's pretty overwhelming and demotivating 😂😂 so many things to think about before you can make a dam simple cut😅😅
Love the video more method to approach is good, say by any chains are you doing a upcoming video about hair like using shell method or partial system , backing hair or using texture to make the shell work?
I just picked up Maya again after about 10 years and am doing a combination of Udemy classes and working through text books that I find online. So far i am working through Autodesk Maya 2025 Basics Guide. I been trying to find books specifically on hard surface modeling and 3D environment design. Anyone have any advice on any? I found a bunch of them with Blender but none with Maya. Any advice would be highly welcomed and appreciated.
Sometimes on those cylindrical poles, you can have shading issues if using a SubD modifier. However if you don't have any shading issues, and your pipeline doesnt require all quads, you should be fine. Flat surfaces are much more forgiving for poles and ngons vs curved surfaces. Hope that helps.
I started my Maya adventure from your tutorial years ago. Running away from Blender after 12+ years of using it. Kinda ironic that now you are making Blender videos. Yeah, its great for views, I know.
Hey guys, don't forget to download your free hard surface modeling guide: www.clkmg.com/jlmussi/3d-cheat-sheet-24
yes! Thank You so much
Not working link 😢
I am transitioning from 6 months into maya and now into blender so i love this. It's relatable on a whole another level.
Yea its definitely a process, glad you could relate!
I was already watching your videos on Maya because I guess that Topolgy is mostly universal and it's good to see you on blender
@baslecout4734, I appreciate you supporting the channel!
It's very interesting to watch Maya modeling experts transform into blender modeling workers. Your blender content is a great help for Maya users.

Congrats. Btw, is it true that Maya users don't have as much problems with changing to blender compared to users of 3DS?
this is amazing, these are lessons that most youtubers offer them for money on their gumroad or patreon
keep up the good work
I appreciate the love! 🙏

Thanks for all the Great Hard Surface Modeling Tips
The basics of 3D apply in any software. ☝
Thanks for that comprehensive and in depth tutorial 👌 And bravo for your new Blender skills 👏
I appreciate the love! 🙏
You make watching easy and your thorough with the details. Keep it coming.
I appreciate the love! 🙏
You are doing Blender now! YES! You are the best!

You are best teacher! Ty
As always, great tips!!
I appreciate the love! 🙏
Interesting video, would be nice to see a complete hard surface series developed in Blender, with some complete UV workflow
Great suggestion!

Is there a reason why you switched over to Blender tutorials?
Probably to reach a bigger audience but apart from that?
youve inspired me to redo my coconut i just made
Glad I this video motivated to tackle your project.

I'm not native English speaker but this tutorial looks clear for me

Very true!

I never thought poking a hole into an object is this hard in Blender
lol, its not.
Can you do a video of modeling, uv, bake, texture, render, and some tips in a continuous chapter like video form
I have some of those in the works.
Great tips

1:49 how are you getting the bevel to not "bevel" and essentially edge loop when you're using bevel?
nevermind I figured it out, shape has to be set to 1
Can you make a simple video of this in maya
Okay, I just created the video for you, enjoy😀

Blender noob here - is there a reason why you delete the top/bottom cylinder faces to grid fill? Is it not advisable to have an Ngon there?

Someone transitioning to Blender😁😁

very unclear tutorial👎
In a year or two, the AI will handle any Boolean operation better than a human without unnecessary effort.
choose simple problem? how about angled holes in curved surface?
no pain, no gain 😀
