I was wondering if you didn't have any rattelling nose in neutral since you didn't have any free play, but set it to a preload. One of the shops told me that there should be 5 to 8 thousands free play otherwise you stock with the ratteling noise in neutral. What is your experience? Thanks.
trans got noisy after i got rid of the dual mass flywheel. 5-8 is too much endplay and was the reason i pulled mine apart. what i set my trans at is what a few reputable trans shops that specialize in the G56 are doing. worst case buy the tool, rebuild your trans and then resell the tool. check out the G56 group on facebook if you're on there as well
thanks Frank. I really didn't need the challenge right now though. Not much info on that trans and I'm kind of guessing so we'll see how it holds up. Ive been chasing this noise for over a month now and I'm pretty run down. Even though it didn't fix my issue I'm glad i went through it and fixed some problems i didn't even know i had.
@@Dontknowwhattouse I had a groan every time I took off from a stop. It turned out to be the down pipe rubbing the frame but the trans needed work done and I didn't know it
I got a 17 ram G56 i do hotshot car hauling and haul about 20-25k pounds. Already had some parts replaced like the 5th and 6th gear synchronizer. Was wondering if you knew any places that sell beefed up g56 cases and heavy duty gears? Ive seen some on google thers several companies that sell them just not sure which 1 to go with. Was wondering if you knew a a good place that sells them? If you or anyone could help me out that would awesome!
Thank you for this video. This is the only time I've seen anyone suggest how to set preload on these. The one thing that concerns me about this is the thickness of the RTV on the case halves "adjusting" your preload. Did you happen to re-check the preload on the main and make sure you didn't have end play after you got it all assembled? I realize it's impossible to check for the counter, but the main may give a good indication.
thats what i came up with since i dont have the special tool and wasn't spending 500$ on one. I did check it and nothing changed. RTV isn't much of a gasket as far as taking up space. I do have to pull mine again because of a weaping input shaft seal but think that was do to me dropping the shaft in there when it slipped out of my hand and flipped the seal. i rolled it back instead of ordering a new one.
i tried it and hated it. too thick for winter use and thats when i saw the most wear on the trans. im using pennzoil synchromesh right now but ive seen guys going back to atf+4 because of lower oil temps
yes it was. everything is heavy on these damn things. putting the mainshaft back in i slipped and have a nice black nail now. damn thing kicked my butt

sorry i do not.
High gear transmissions. They are here on you tube.
Not sure if you’ve found them
But just type in Awesomer g56 or gorilla G56 they both are making a 7500hp capable G56! You’ll pay but worth it!
