I not sure you read these videos . I having a problem with my rebuilt g56 transmission leaking gear oil at the rear of the transmission between the tc and transmission. . It's gear oil . New out put shaft ,bearings ect , this is the second seal installed. Thanks for your time
I did all you said but you missed something in your video ,you have to take the 2 bolts out at the bottom of the shift rails in order to get the shafts to clear
I took my g56 out of my 6.7 because my clutch was well past when it should have been replaced. The input shaft is not very smooth anymore and seems to be worn and gouged. If I just want to replace the input shaft is it as easy as copying you and lifting the old one out and setting the new on in making sure it mates with the gear and closing it back in the case and putting the Allens for the pivot pins back in
I'm glad you found it that useful! I wish the video quality was better, I have sense upgraded the camera and the lighting, so hopefully future videos will be a little higher quality. Thanks and take care!
hey man, i’ve watched all of your videos related to this transmission. i was wondering how does the counter shaft come apart? i’ve had mine in 150ton press and it didn’t budge.
Hey I was wondering if the oil slinger on counter shaft is necessary ..mine broke and I see in your video .the trans you disassemble doesn't have 1..also gorilla transmissions don't use it either is this ok ? Please could use the advice
Great video. Got a question not sure if u can answer but ur best guess would probably be better than mine. I have a 14 ram 3500 with the g56. It has slack when shifting or let off the fuel. Everything is tight u joints, carrier, mounts, rear end. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANS IS JUMPING UP. I'm new to the g56 world what are ur thoughts what should I check. Thank you in advance
Ive got a groan at takeoff but can't pinpoint where its coming from. Is that a common sound out of a bad bearing on the trans. If I take off really easy it won't do it but a normal takeoff it does.
I do not, but I show the technique I use in post #6 of this article. www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-powertrain/2157993-cummins-benz-fusion-guide.html If it helps, I might have a shaft laying around I can use for a quick video.
Do you ever install front input shaft repair sleeves? I put a seal on and it leaks- there doesn't seem to have excessive play and no performance issues or noise..Nice video..lots of parts!
I’ve got a 2007.5 6.7 Cummins with the g56 when I push the clutch in to start it it’s fine but as soon as I start to let it out theirs a loud grinding sound push back in and it stops, I can still go into every gear and even drive the truck in 1st and reverse but the grinding is still their any idea what it could be? I haven’t tried going into any other gear while driving since this happend, I was rolling in 3rd building boost and when my compound turbo setup started to light up I lost all power and the grinding noise started but it will still drive clutch has over 100k on it not Sure what I did haven’t had time to pull anything out yet
just started with my transmission following your video very helpful thanks. so what I am going to ask you is how do I get the counter shaft bearing off? it needs replaced too, as well as the input shaft bearing and input shaft and seal pocket bearing. thanks for any input
I used a caged gear puller to remove the countershaft bearings. There are pictures in this article post #6. www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-powertrain/2157993-cummins-benz-fusion-guide.html#post24992289 Take care man and best of luck!
Hey it's me again. Going back together with my trans and have broken teeth on my 3/4 slider. Also have a small nick in the hub. Having trouble finding the 3/4 hub and slider. Do you have a source where you buy them? Also I have found the 1/2 slider for sale. If I filled the nick on my 3/4 hub can I use a 1/2 slider? They're the same size but don't know if they're interchangeable
In the beginning of the video around 35 sec your removing the bolts to pull the back end of the transmission off. I was wondering if you can tell me if there's a gasket there, where you're pulling it apart? mines leaking in that area. its not the shift boot, I've replaced that. just was wondering if I could just replace the gasket myself.
hi I built my tools and opened up my transmission. I've got two clusters 5-6 &3_4 on the countershaft I have to replace along with sixth gear and all my bearings. question is how do you get the gears off the countershaft? I have a 20 ton press and torches but can't get them to budge. any help would be appreciated greatly
You do have to remove the front countershaft bearing, there's a snap ring under there. But after that you really got to press on the thing. I tried a 20 ton press and it didn't work either. I've heard a minimum of a 40 ton is required.
CumminsWorks ok that helps. I was trying to press gear and bearing at the same time. I'm hoping that my 20 ton press and torches will do the trick. as for reassembly I'm hoping freezing the shaft and heating the gears will do the trick.
Atf+4 or synthetic 75w gear oil? 156,000 so far no problems with Atf4 & 33,000 oil changes. Just changed my front brake pads, so you can see I do 90% freeway & clutch should do 250,000.
ATF+4 does not belong in a G56, but it's not as simple as just getting any old 50w or 75w oil. I'd recommend either amsoil MTG or redline MTL. If you tow heavy a lot and live in warmer climates, consider Redline MT-90 for the extra viscosity. The really awesome thing about these oils is the super high viscosity index allows for better shifting while cold while not thinning out when it gets warm. Check out post #9 on this article for a little more information on oils. www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94-98-powertrain/2157993-cummins-benz-fusion-guide.html Cheers!
Unfortunately no. The difference in the AE vs AD is the input shaft gear and corresponding countershaft gear. swapping them out will affect all the gears.
@@px9172 both the input shafts and countershaft gear is different. Because of the extra tooth of the input, it's larger, so the countershaft has to be smaller to compensate.
@@CumminsWorks Thanks. I was considering getting an older input shaft to get a lower ratio for crawling. Might be impractical to swap vs getting a separate transmission
can you split the cases with the transmission being clutch side down? I need to replace the rear housing and would rather not gut the transmission just to replace it.
I've never tried it, but I don't think you can. You really have to wiggle the mainshaft to get the countershaft out after the reverse gear has been removed. I don't remember for sure, but I believe I edited a lot of that out of the video to save on run time.
It's homemade, Miller makes a puller set specifically for the g56 though. Can't remember it off hand, but if you have the service manual it's in there. If you don't just Google "G56 Service Manual filetype:PDF"
