Very helpful, I look forward to more. I really like your style and voice. I just bought a red EV6 Wind RWD, and I’m trying to learn all I can. I’m working on upgrading my electrical to get the level 2 charger installed. I subscribe to many UA-cam channels but this is the first that I set the notification bell.
@@TechnicallyJeff Great, my dealer included a level 1 charger and a Charge Point level 2 charger as part of his dealer installed options that I had to buy to get the car. However, I have to upgrade my electrical panel to add another 240v breaker. I was out of space and the panel was old and needed to be replaced.
@@TechnicallyJeff Yes, I had 2 electricians say they could add a sub-panel but since my panel was 40 years old and already had some suspect breakers installed, I felt that it was safer and smarter to go with the new panel. @@martyptx ahh yes that makes sense. Thanks I appreciate it! Look forward to growing the channel and do many more videos - EV6 related and tech related.
Thanks VERY MUCH for this video. I hadn't gone through it with the detail that you have provided. Question about the contents at 0:30? I note that in the Battery Level pane there is a notation of "Battery Preconditioning: OFF". My impression so far is that currently, there is no preconditioning functionality. Do you know, or do you care to surmise whether this is in preparation for what several UA-camrs have mentioned as possibly coming through a Software Update at a later date? Thanks again
@@TechnicallyJeff Hi Jeff, I now think that this doesn't have anything to do with "preconditioing". Rather it refers to whether "Winter Mode" is turned on to ameliorate, but not optimize, cold-weather charging. Based on the specs for the 2023 Ioniq 5, which indicate the preconditioning "a la" Tesla will be available, I'm betting that owners of 2022 Ioniq5 and EV6 will never see that capability as a software upgrade. Take care.
Good video, Jeff. I have been looking at the EV6 and did have the following question I hope you are able to answer: When the vehicle is parked (charging or not charging) can the climate be set to maintain the ambient outside temperature and not cool or heat the car? I ask since we often drive through hot areas with a car that does this and if we are away from the car a few hours it would be nice if the climate in the car can set to maintain the inside car temperature to that same as the outside until we return to the car where we would pre-A/C the car. Thanks flor the video and thanks for replying.
Hey Tom. No unfortunately that isn't a setting. Typically if I go somewhere and it's hot out, a little bit before I leave I login to the app on my phone and start the climate to cool the car down. It has worked out pretty well for me
@@TechnicallyJeff Hi Jeff, Thanks for the reply. We often travel through desert areas and leave the car for several hours. Having the car interior stay at the same temp as the outside is helpful to make sure the car is not boiling hot when we get back. Sometimes we start the A/C prior to getting back to the car but, other times, we forget and having the car at outside air temp really makes sure the car is not stifling hot (an interior temp of 115 is far better than 165). I guess I'll have to set a schedule on the app or remember to start the A/C shortly before returning to the car. Thanks again for the video. It was helpful.
@@tomdonovan8480 yeah I definitely understand that. One thing you can do too - once you're within range of the car, if you hold the universe button down it will roll all the windows down. That way the car can be airing out some at least a little bit while you're walking to it.
Hi Jeff, I guess I am spoiled now that I have owned several cars that have the solar panels and run the fan for itself whenever the car is parked in the shade or sun. In fact, I think that many of these BEV vehicles should have solar panels installed on the roof of the car and, maybe, on the top of the hood/trunk areas since even if it is only a few watts of power it could be that the panels would continiously run the vent fan when parked and possibly trickle charge the traction battery just to extend the vehicle distance somewhat. Remember, having enough daylight, the panels may help extend the range just a little while venting the car while parked. Once we are in the car and it is running the fan need not run but the panels still generate power. Just a suggestion we can all give to the BEV car businesses.
I just got an EV6. The Kia Connect takes like 30 seconds to say lock the door and to give me the feedback. That is today. However, first few days it was timing out and I was frustrated. How fast is it usually? My opinion is it needs to be 1 to 5 seconds at most, otherwise not so useable.
It takes maybe 15 seconds to confirm locked. Remember, it has to send the command, execute, confirm executed, then receive that status. Can only happen so fast.
@@TechnicallyJeff Checkout the Tesla App. They could control the door locks and stuff like that and summon the car. It certainly looked real time. I am wondering if maybe that is via Bluetooth and not internet?
Nope this is android. I'm in the USA though. I know in other countries the app is different. For the cameras too, you need to GT-line or the Wind with Tech Package.
Jeff! I'm bummed that I saw your video and thought "I'm finally going to know how to send addresses and POIs from the app to the car", and you were too afraid to giving out your location to even go over that section! Can't you blurr it out??
Hey Robert - the app has actually been updated since I made the video. On the bottom, click "Locations", then click "Find My Car" towards the lower half. This is for the USA version of the app too, just to clarify.
Good question. It would be nice to have that option. The challenge I think likely comes to storage of all the video data. There's only one USB data port in the vehicle so if a USB drive was the way to do it, it would disable Android Auto/Apple Carplay. Maybe if/when wireless AA/Carplay is enabled it could work.
Tesla app is free to use no subscriptions, way faster, more functions, Bluetooth, not cellular like Kia/Hyundai. Constantly updated app features. My favorite is Dog Mode-keeps climate whatever you set! Wish Kia had that! Not very impressed with having to pay for mediocre features. Hope Kia can update connect app and drop or reduce ridiculous pricing! No other auto company I know charges to use their app! So much for perks!
The app has been updated but has the same basic info. Thanks for watching! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for more videos 😀
