      I am glad my video could help. You are right, dealers are not aware of this kind of information. It would take dedicated EV sales people to learn about the cars, but unfortunately we are a long way off from that happening. I will be making a part 2 video because there are other things that have been found 😎

    Another tip is the multifunction panel default. You can set it to be in either entertainment or in climate mode. This selection can be made by pressing on the climate/nav selection button for 3-5 seconds. This help ensure that you are not turning up the heat when you are turning up the volume. It defaults back to one or the other. Some prefer the climate default and some prefer the entertainment default.

      Does the Max regen setting come back after the car is cycled on and off? I do like that aspect of the Auto regen feature and have been using Auto level 3 now and find the consistent behavior comfortable.

      Max regen only comes on when you hold the left paddle. It will slow the car and stop it when held. Once you release the paddle it goes back to the level you had selected.

      My 2013 Škoda Roomster does that automatically! Still waiting to aquire my first ev, ideally a used e-Niro, and this is a really helpful video but why would you have to hunt for something like that? @@EV-olution the problem is, based on the videos, it doesn't seem it will close itself when you leave? Also, it seems strange that in order to close a trunk with your key, you have to keep pressing the button until the trunk is closed. So basically, when you take some shopping from the car without your hands being free, it creates a problem. With my Peugeot 508, I can open it with my foot, but also close it with my foot. But not only a trunk is being closed, but also the car is being locked. It's perfect. And as someone mentioned - the button to close a trunk might be too high for some people....

    Hi Andre. Great video. I test drove the GT S line EV6 today as looking to replace my e-Niro like you did. In UK we have Air, GT line, GT S line and a GT model. The dealer told me about the EV9 that will be coming out! Have you found that you would like to do some tweaks to the EV6? e.g. you did a video about changing the bulbs to LED's for the e-Niro but look all LED in EV6. What about the reversing light? Is it powerful and LED? Also, I liked that fact you could turn off the VESS and therefore the reversing sound in the e-Niro because it would wake my neighbours when I left early in the mornings. I couldn't find the VESS control on the EV6. Do you have the optional heat pump? Is it needed? Was standard on e-Niro. Thanks

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 роки тому

      Thank you very much. There are a few small things that I will do, but the EV6 has really corrected things that the Niro EV did wrong. The reverse light is a central light and it is LED so no need for that. In North America there is no VESS button because it is required by law and we are not allowed to deactivate it. This may have influenced production everywhere if your version no longer has a VESS button. In Canada we get heat pump as standard in all trims except for the base RWD Standard Range which is the 45,000$ version to meet EV incentive requirements for price. The question of whether it is needed is a bit of a difficult question to answer. For some yes, for others no. If the range of the vehicle is sufficient for your requirements then the heat pump is irrelevant because the claimed range accounts for heating in winter. Think of the Bolt EV and EUV, they have never had a heat pump and it is fine. Would it be more efficient if it had one, yes, but the price would increase. I actually have a video about heat pumps and talk about this.

      Funny you asked, I will be making short how-to videos about things like this. When you power off the car you, within 20 seconds, you put the wiper lever in the mist position (pull up) for a few seconds and the wipers will move into the vertical position. The next time you power on the car they will stay up until you tap mist, or select a wiper speed.

    Good information. Most salesmen and woman don't know all the tricks in the car. When I ask how to do something they just sit in the car and play with things until they might figure it out. They should watch more UA-cam.
    About the auto regen. What level is it in before sensing a time to brake for the car in front? I found the adjustment of the regen levels with the paddle shifters right at my fingertips a joy to use and was just tapping up to a higher level when I needed to slow down instead of using the brakes. LIke down shifting but better. It sounds like the auto setting might do this for me or I might enjoy the more active approach of doing it myself. What a great feature. Also I noticed that turning off regen was amazing as the car just cruises with little resistance whatsoever kind of like putting you ice car in neutral. Very fun.

      Thanks. I’ll go look. I also just discovered if you are in reverse with the mirrors dipped, you can actually adjust the amount of dip of each mirror independently, while in reverse mode. Super slick. I prefer my passenger side one dipped more so I can see the rear wheel. Handy for parallel parking to know how close to the kerb the wheel is. Cameras don’t really help in that situation.

    First major negative (in Canada anyway) . I have found the EV6 Nav system to be untrustworthy and no longer use it without at least a Google enabled phone as a back up. I have found it miss a simple destination altogether and then lead me around multiple blocks of turns past the destination to take me back to it. On another occasion it called for a left turn two blocks in advance of the major corner charging/gas station destination and selected a long route through a residential area to end up on the opposite side of the median at the gas/EV charging station. The worst case was picking a longer route to a location then when the longer route was intentionally passed for a shorter one (a one block route to the left) the "revised route" called for multiple right turns to place the vehicle back on the original (longer) route.
    The EV Niro Nav system was far, far more reliable.
    How does one ind out if the Nav system has a higher North American/Canadian version available that might be a fix.?

      There is a navigation update that should fix your issues and it is completely free. Another question please…would you, on a regular basis, charge at 100% your EV6 at home? Thanks…

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  Рік тому +3

      Hi Claude, I don't see your other question, but to answer this one...
      For daily driving I never charge to more than 90%, and I don't charge every day since there is no need. All EVs with lithium ion batteries should be occasionally charged to 100% on level 2 (240V) charging stations because it allows the battery management system (BMS) to balance the cells. I charge to 100% at least 2 times per month, but when it is done charging I make sure to drive the car to drop the level to 90% or less. I usually plan this for when I have a longer distance to drive the next day, so I plug and charge to 100% over night then drive to drop the charge level. Charging to your car to 100% is never a problem; the problem is leaving the battery at 100% for prolonged periods of time. That is bad for the battery. The same thing goes for having your battery at less than 20% state of charge (SoC). Driving your car down to 5% is not bad for the battery as long as you charge your car to above 20% when you are done driving. I was on a business trip last week and my battery was down to 4% when I arrived at one of the charging stops. It is not a problem because I charged to 80% then continued on my trip. I hope this helps.

    • @OleIChristensen
      @OleIChristensen 9 місяців тому

      My Kia dealer says it doesn't matter, because the car is made for it.
      There's a buffer built in the software, so when you see your battery is charged fully up to 100% or drained down to 0, its not actually on 100% or 0 for that matter.
      It done for protection of your battery.
      That's why you still have a little power on the battery, even if it drops to 0.
      And don't forget about the excellent guarantee Kia provides on also the battery - if it breaks, you will get it fixed for free.
      Enjoy 😉

    Another feature. In every EV that I have had up to the EV6 it was impossible to clean the inner rims of the wheels. This was helpful. Thank you.
    We just got our EV6 3 days ago so it's all still very new.
    There is just one thing that I'm quite annoyed about. We live in a small remote area (islands) in Europe and the EV6 does not seem to have a Navigation Map. All we see is a black screen with the arrow icon that indicates us. The Coordinates seem to work and we can see it has satellite connections.
    When I tried one of their EV6 cars I just assumed that they hadn't updated the system on that car and it would be fine when we got our own. Went back the day after we got our car because I noticed it was still a black screen and talked to them, but the salesman just said "Kia doesn't have any Maps of our region so it doesn't work here... sorry. However, it does work just fine if you'd leave the country and have the car with you".
    It feels like a big letdown not being informed of that before buying the car. I had a Mercedes before this EV6 and that car had flawless navigation. If the model was really new I'd feel optimistic to have them add it soon but the model is over 2 years old now.

    Plenty of extra hidden features:
    NSCC navigation based cruise control:
    When you enable CC then after 3 seconds the speed limit sign will blink. One press up/down as arrow says and you are at the speed limit. Works 3 seconds after passing any new speed limits as well. And you have 3 secs to react.
    If you set speed warning to +5 km/h then NSCC will snap to actual speed limit + the offset. Since my car shows 4km/h too much - +5 is close to perfect.
    Close windows with remote. Press and hold lock on remote.
    Auto Regen: you can increase Regen with paddle shifters. With nobody in front you can lower it to level 0 or 1 for long free roll. Lower than default.

    This isn’t a hidden feature but more of a tip. We have a 2023 EV6 GT-Line 2 and we were shocked how gutless and tinny the audio system sounds. This is a common gripe. I commute weekly from Vancouver Island to Vancouver and I like my music.
    An easy fix is a small rumbler that fits under the trunk floor - but it doesn’t add a lot of sound quality, just a rumble and doesn’t help the system holistically. On the other end of the spectrum, if one has the resources, you can add a custom fibreglass-moulded sub enclosure and subwoofer where the existing one is. But $$$.
    A more mid-range (no pun intended) choice is something like a JL Audio 8-12” enclosed subwoofer (NB: I opted for the 10”) which I had professionally installed along with a bass knob hidden under the steering wheel around my right knee. I cannot express how MASSIVE a difference this makes - and I hope they fix this in the upcoming refresh.
    Even with the bass turned all the way down, it’s still on a little bit - and what that does is fill in the missing frequencies and makes all of the other frequencies sound brighter and fuller. Turn it up halfway and it really bumps without sounding like I’m trying recapture my misspent youth!
    The enclosed sub does not have to be hard mounted into the trunk - it just sits on the floor and the heft of it means it won’t really move on its own. It has a minimal footprint (I have it up on its end, which also positions it in the most beneficial ‘rear-firing’ configuration) and is easily unplugged and removed if I need that extra space.
    PROTIP: I happened to have a set of WeatherTech 81BS1 8CTK1 CargoTech Cargo Containment System from our old 2020 Kia Niro - which holds it in place perfectly!

      Regarding your question about solar panels, this has been gone over at length and with the panels we have today, it makes no sense to use portable panels because you would need far too many to be of any real use in the real world. There are tons of articles and videos about the subject, but here is a reference that goes over the math (see link below). If you scroll half the way down the article, you get to the section called "How many solar panels will I need to charge just my EV?" and the example math they show that you would need 5.85 solar panels that generate 410W of power each to be of any real use.

I mostly do not care for the headlights at night on the EV6 compared to my daughter’s 2019 Niro SX Touring which is still a great car. I am also concerned that if we see a change in Government both federal and provincial here in BC we could lose our rebates which could make future upgrades more costly. André, with my Niro EV I typically have the regen set for auto and I still can vary the aggressiveness of the regen by using the paddles usually setting for one or two arrows. In auto regen the car uses the radar plate to automatically decrease the speed when the car I’m following slows down. If a car traveling at a slower speed than mine moves in my lane it will react to that situation. I prefer this auto regen in heavy traffic. Sometimes I just enable the adaptive cruise control and set it for minimum distance in heavy bumper to bumper traffic and the car pretty much takes care of the driving for me automatically relieving the driving stress. In the future I’d like to see a drive comfort and handling experience comparison of the two vehicles. Great videos as always!!!⚡️ ✅

When breaking of in complete standstill, hold the left paddle for 3 seconds and the car will remain in its position until you press the accelerator paddle. I find it useful in situation like traffic jams when you don’t want to use the auto-hold function all the time but just once.

      I am glad my videos could help you choose an EV that suits your needs and congratulations on the Niro EV, it is an excellent vehicle. You are correct about the left paddle, the disadvantage is that the thing holding the vehicle in place is the electric motor (motors in the EV6) as opposed to the friction brakes, meaning the car will use battery power to hold the car in position. The other disadvantage is that the paddle hold version that holds the car does not keep the brake lights turned on when stopped at a light, whereas Auto Hold keeps the brake lights on.

Only works on the front windows in the ev6 but if it's a stinking hot day it's nice to be able to get some fresh cooler air into the car before you open the doors while you're approaching your car. Also convenient to be able to close the windows from inside your house if you look outside and see you've forgotten to do so.

    Two Questions, you may be able to answer:
    1) Are your Regen settings remembered when you next power the car up and go into drive?

    What’s the difference between I-pedal and MAX, and auto-regen, and do these settings persist between drivers, ie, is the regen setting I like linked to my driver profile?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 роки тому +2

      There are 0, 1, 2, 3 and i-Pedal regen levels in the EV6. i-Pedal is one pedal driving mode, but does not stay active when the car is powered off and back on; it drops to level 3 after a power off. MAX is what you get when you pull and hold the left regen paddle to stop the car, regardless of regen level you are in. You could be at level 0 and pull the left paddle which will slow and stop the car with max regen. I am not sure if the driver profile "remembers" the regen level, but I would take a wild guess that it will since it keeps things like radio station presets, ambient light color, mirror settings, etc. I have driven the Model 3 and Model Y and I can honestly say that I prefer the EV6 over both of them for my needs and preferences. I would have liked a bigger frunk, but I can live with the small one we get since the rest of the EV6 is pretty awesome.

    On my Sorento, the first 10(?) SiriusXM presets would auto record so if you wanted to listen to a song again you could press skip backwards and it would play again. Also you could change preset stations then skip backwards. Not sure how long of a buffer was recoding, from car start maybe 30 or 60 minutes. It was a great accidental find.

      Hi Steve, congratulations on your purchase, you are going to love the EV6. I don't know about snow cables versus Kia restrictions per country, but I would suggest simply using quality winter certified winter tires, like the Nokian R5 EV, or the R3 SUV, the 10 EV, or the Continental VikingContact 7, Michelin X Ice, etc. Any quality winter tire should be more than good. I have watched several reviews of various tires and for my Niro EV I had the Nokian R3. This time, with my EV6, I have decided to give the old, but proven Continental VikingContact 7 tire a try. I am downsizing to a more narrow 19 inch wheel and tire, but you can go as small as 18 inch wheels and tires on the EV6. FYI, I have a few EV6 videos and product reviews out already. • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 роки тому

      i-Pedal allows you to drive with only the accelerator pedal. The Max regen setting requires you to pull the left paddle and hold it if you want to stop the car. Max regen by pulling the left paddle allows you to access more regen to slow down more than level 3.
      When using Auto regen the previously set manual regen level has no effect. Auto is fully automatic and not related or linked to the manual settings.
      From what I have seen i-Pedal does not prevent the front motor from disengaging, I will have to look again to confirm.
