  • A high-tech Scandinavian survey vessel, Stril Explorer, leads an international team to uncover archaeological mysteries beneath the Black Sea, using advanced sonar and remotely operated vehicles. The Black Sea's unique anoxic depths (below 150 meters) preserve ancient shipwrecks, creating a “dead zone” free of oxygen and life like shipworms. Researchers locate and study remarkably preserved Ottoman-era shipwrecks (circa 300 years old), complete with intact carvings, ropes, and artefacts.

As a working field archaeologist, i was pleasantly surprised to see the rov equiped with a scale which slid out when they photographed the amphora. Was a bit confused by the term "anoxic", as on land archaeology, an oxygen-free environment (such as a peat bog) would be called "anaerobic". Interesting that there are 2 different terms for the 2 environments. Interesting. Cheers

Great video, really enjoyed the visuals and info! but honestly, I feel like there’s way more to explore in the Black Sea than just its historical artifacts. like, what about the impact of climate change on its ecosystem? it seems like a crucial topic that's often overlooked.

it's so unfortunate that th Editor of this film, didn't understand that turning up the musical background during "interesting points" drowns
out the narrative. Or, was that the point?

What about the Caspian Sea? Has there been any exploration of its depths? But also… what is the level of both Black amd Caspian Sea? Are they both connected to the Mediterranean? Such fascinating stuff and Putin concentrates instead on gathering Ukraine to his bosom like a desperate insecure mother….😢. When will the world focus on humanity and remove insecurity while encouraging exploration and knowledge gathering while discouraging greed…?

The obtrusive "pseudo-music" is very off putting. People who do science should resist this catering to the gum chewing masses.

The "inundation", was an ice dam from the Hudson's Bay area of Canada. Thank god we don't have to rely on the bible for actual "history". "Who writes this stuff, I mean, really!" Ever hear of wood sample and carbon-14 dating?
