- I was recently asked by a follower, "How do I drink whiskey like a man?" No offense to the badass women of whiskey, of course, but it's an interesting question. How do you drink whiskey like a man, in the classical sense?
I think it comes down to a couple of simple pointers. Here's my attempt to answer that question in 1 minute!

I like Baileys, I like Sweet Mojitos, I like stouts, and i like whiskey. It depends on the mood. If you want to drink a daiquiri, go for it. The only thing that isn’t manly is being so afraid of seeming un-manly that you drink something you don’t enjoy. Drinking at a bar is expensive, so just try to have fun!

@@Cancle771 Most of my ancestors, that I know of, enjoyed whiskey on the rocks as well. Obviously, our ancestors, pre-refrigeration, didn't have a choice but to drink it straight up.
First off the best whiskey is any whiskey you like, the way you like to drink it.
I started my journey through the wide world of whiskey about 7 years ago with my Grandpa Bob. He started me out low and slow. Whiskey on ice with a splash of water.
Since then, my palette has become more tuned for drinking my whiskey and bourbons "neat".
I encourage everyone to start the way I did and adjust as your flavor palette becomes more refined. Some whiskey I still enjoy drinking with a splash of water to open up the flavors!

I really love the taste of Garrison Brothers. It taste great neat or over a single ball of ice.
Just don't flinch, gag, or choke. Don't sniff it or swish it around or make weird mouth sounds. Don't sip it! Just drink it like it doesn't matter.
the first three are very true, and the mouth noises certainly aren‘t needed. But smelling it and sipping it are just the standard way to drink whiskey. Drinking it like a beer is a sure way to burn your throat, look like a fool and end up with liver failure.
Last two are only things women do.

Pro tip, if you want a cooler sip of whiskey but not watered down, and you don’t have it in your freezer, you can buy whiskey stones and it’ll chill your drink without adding water
Actually most of the time they dont because they dont transfer the cold, youre much better off just putting the bottle in the fridge. Also you might chip your glass and your teeth with whiskey stones.
Actual pro tip, whisky over ice, or with a splash of water, disperses the oils and brings out more complex flavors of the whisky. You just don't want so much ice, or water, that it dilutes the flavor.
Try freezing anything that doesn't melt. Grapes, ball bearings, magnets, doesn't matter.
I like Macallan. Strong but smoother than most other whiskeys ive had so far.

For a good budget rye, you should review Knob Creek Rye along with some other budget ryes. I think the Knob Creek is awesome for the price
i always use one giant ice cube, its not that the ice helps with the "burn" i mean, it does, BUT the reason i use ice is i like it to be cold, and one giant cube melts slower, and looks cool
I’m a neat, rocks glass kinda guy myself. I love the look of the single ice, it’s always pretty Cool, and don’t get me wrong, I bet it’s allright enjoyment wise but it’s just not my feel. To me, whiskey is a warm drink. A proper drink. One that feels right to just be left alone, and to just be enjoyed traditionally you know? Not sure if others get what I’m saying, but that’s my opinion. Call me crazy if you want haha

ice reduces the perception of taste. If you want your whisky to get smoother, add a little bit of water, not ice
People really be underestimating how much time it takes to melt the ice cube. If you get square shaped, they’ll melt instantly, but ball-shaped cubes take a long while. I think the water and chill effect make it taste and feel better. 🤷♀️
Bourbon and scotch are neat in a glincaren, though some scotch sometimes benefits from some ice most rye I prefer over Ice,
I do angels envy heavy pour, 2 dash bitters over a solid cube in a rocks
Step 1. Get what you like
Step 2. Take too off bottle
Step 3. Take sips from the bottle or swigs (however you prefer to get screwed up)
Evan Williams bottled in bond is my budget go to. Blantons or Eagle Rare otherwise.
I love a nice neat bourbon or scotch but the classic buffalo trace and ginger beer is hard to beat sometimes

The first time my mom let me try whiskey, I took it as a shot. Just straight whiskey, no ice, no water, no chasers, no nothing. Just a shot of straight whiskey.I took it straight down, and I didn't even flinch. Took a second one, no problem. It was Southern comfort. If only you could've seen the look on my mom's face.
I like it with ice because saying 'I'd like a Jack on the rocks' is just cool.

It depends on the whiskey, having scotch like talisker dark storm neat is not very enjoyable from my experience. I'd say scotch definitely needs ice.

Let it rest in the glass for a couple of minutes after you pour it, and when you smell the whiskey keep your mouth open. These two things will help. 👍

I honestly feel like a Glencairn neat is the best way to show you know good whiskey. If you can't get ahold of purified water at the bar, just throw an ice cube in if you want. Cheers

Know the difference between slammer whiskeys and sippin whiskeys. Slammers are party shot mix with soda stuff (crown, jack) and sippers are like Glennfiddich, buffalo trace

Good tip! That's one you just don't hear much. A lot of bartenders don't even know that one. I usually just order it neat and ask for a single cube on the side. 😂👍🏻🥃
Ok, those minis I've never seen in high end bourbons. How do we find these?? Not sure this is relatable
It's harder to find high end stuff. These are more about finding the types you like. i.e. Texas vs Kentucky, Rye or Wheat, high proof or 80.
My preference currently is over a round ice cube. To switch it up, I use a square ice cube. 😂

My whiskey drinking days
So the minis were a dope idea till our bevmo started putting 30 plus dollar fiths and liters at 10.99 plus for a 50ml mini. When does a 40 dollar bottle add up to 180 in minis shits just dumb. At least our total wines got more reasonalble like i got a 4.99 true blue of balcones to try first. Too bad its an hr away and bevmo 5 minuites

I drink bourbon out of my coffee cup, so I don't have to wash my Buffalo cup. However, my first drink taste like a whiskey Americano.

Some whiskey is good on ice. Others are better neat. Some are not good at all neither with both, so that is old fashioned territory. It’s interesting but I have found one I’m not willing to water down, that’s the one you find in a price point you can afford to buy several of because you will want it most nights. Happy hunting boys
