I get a lot of questions about my gear. You can read about it on the website here: www.shutupandp...
Thanks for watching. Cheers
This is in my opinion the best intro solo ever in rock n roll. Mathis Jabbs is a monster guitar player.
The intro of Soul Behind The Face is also epic although much simpler. It has also a great solo.
yes and to think ive always thought it was schenker...oops
He’s mad underrated in my opinion
n8sg8 That’s probably why Matthias isn’t recognized as much as other guys. People didn’t keep up with all the guitar player changes and they only think of Rudy.
Agreed
I totally agree with what you said about Matthias Jabs. He's one of my all time favourite guitarists, and he never gets the credit he trully deserves. And thank you for a great lesson. Keep it up and ROCK ON.
Everyone should learn this solo, there's so much goodness here, bending up in tune, vibrato, slides, just all great great stuff!
oh yes great intro it's right in your face 🎸
Your style of teaching is the best I've found for dissecting fast guitar solos.
thank you i had no idea this was pentatonic is sounds so melodic but it is brutal i will work on it because it just killer
Have watched many of your videos but have never properly thanked you. Your song selections, skill, tone, knowledge, and approach to educating the rest of us is truly top notch. Blows away every other 'tuber in the genre. Great stuff. Thank you for sharing with us. Please keep it up!
+The Rubber Band Thanks so much for the nice comment bro. I appreciate it. cheers
Whenever I want to truly get a solo 'right', I go to your lessons. You always make it look so easy, and your tone is killer. Thanks for putting all this out there, you've created better players everywhere!
Couldn't agree more about Mathias jabs. His tone and phrasing are so unique to him it's hard for any guitar player not to appreciate his playing ability. Hard guy to replicate but I would say you've done an amazing job. Great teacher, Great lesson.
Thanks for this! I'm just picking up the guitar again after a "little" (32 year!) break, and this lesson is just what I needed! It's a little above my skill level right now, but it's a great challenge and a break from endless drills. You have a gift for teaching, man.
First of all very good tone and delay. Much respect for your teaching and playing with lots of feel and accuracy .
Thank you for another excellent lesson. Your M3 bend and you m3 harmony part is a treat, your passion for intonation and vibrato shines through.
I always look forward to your lessons, they are really enjoyable, with an emphasis on using your ear, rather than all the mumbo jumbo about frets, fingers , strings.
I thank you for playing each phrase at tempo, then playing it at a slower speed, encouraging aural perception, and enjoyable learning.
I Love your lessons..consistently well paced, delivered, and engaging.
No one does better song breakdowns & tutorials than this guy IMHO. I support him and hope you do too. Keep up the great work man! SO inspiring ! 🎸
I just want to say, how MUCH you are appreciated- I can't send any funds today, but soon, I will. You are one of the greatest guitarists-teachers I've ever see, on the internet, or in person, and I've been playing 40 years - And I'm still not near your level of playing (wish I were!). Thank you, thank you, thank you!
you talk about others with great vibrato but you sir have one of the best vibratos I've ever heard!!! Great ear!
+Jhietanen Thanks so much...that means a lot to me. I'm never happy with my vibrato, it's something I'm always working on. cheers
Your tutorials are the very finest. Very accurate fingering and transscription. I downloaded a lot of sheets for this one and all of them noted it above the 12.th fret. You put that right, as you've got a feel for how players do it and a precise ear as well.
Hold on!
Best produced and played guitar lessons on UA-cam by far. Just great. Thanks
+WysteriaGuitar Thanks a lot bro. cheers
Incredible. I’m amazed that anyone can cover Jabs so well, and he should get more credit. Very well done and a thorough explanation/tutorial. Outstanding. Thank you!
WOW love your approach to lessons and watch you play. You always seem to get the same sounds as original artist
Appreciate the efforts you make to do this. Thanks!!!
Scorpions solos is like playing violin. I am impressed that you start by mentioning that their bending is the trick. I thought i was the only one to have strugled with them for the last 20years. I will check your other vids now, good work my friend
you are the hands down best teacher on youtube to learn songs.
the most consistent vibrato.
that's what turns me away from most other channels is because you hear trash vibratos when learning the solos and it makes it harder to learn.
+Sabastian Duke Thank you very much Sabastian. Vibrato is such an important element of guitar playing and vastly over-looked by many players. It's something I'm constantly working on. I have a lot of work to do to get it more consistent but I have to say that a guy's vibrato reveals alot about where they're at as a guitarist. The greats ALL have distinctive and consistent vibrato above all else. Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Paul Kossoff, BB King, Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc., too many to mention really. Mathias Jebbs has an awesome vibrato.
Even if a guy can play a million notes, If his vibrato is not very good, I have a hard time listening to them...cheers
Proof tone comes mostly from you're right and left hand, effects only enhance that. You are a master of your craft Sir. excellent! Thank you.
Totally agree about what you said about Matthias Jabs, here in this video. Fantastic guitarist, and very under-rated player. His solo in the song "Coming Home" is absolutely incredible!!!!!! Great video, as usual...
Never seen a comprehensive demo from anyone so far, great job thank you, stay blessed.
didn't think Id be anywhere close to this style of playing but watching this guy has spun my level to unbelievable heights:-) I love to bend those guitar strings woohoo ....Thanks a many! I learn from here better than anywhere else at one time I thought it was impossible but I kept coming back for a look and got the grasp of some of the moves and now I'm a complete junky to this site
Your teaching is the best on UA-cam period.
I want to thank you very much for this lesson man because I've been getting into playing guitar and I've been making good progress and once I'm able to play the guitar better and understand it better, this is one of the songs I want to learn in the opening is definitely the best part so it's nice to see an accurate lesson on it. I love the tone too.
What effects are you running on this? nailed that scorp's sound!
Don't you know now? If know can you tell me how, please?
Sounds like reverb and delay.
I could be wrong, but I use a little bit of chorus at a short delay and a long depth. I would set my Boss chorus pedal knobs at the ten and two positions. That with a bit of reverb and compression seemed to do well. With overdrive of course.
The real thing to get exactly the same sound is not just about the right effect pedal, but about 2 guitars playing it but one at some frets lower, like at 0:22
You are a good teacher!!
Another great tutorial. All us up and coming guitar players owe you big time.
Many Thanks,
these are the best lessons I've come across so far, you rock dude!
fantastic lesson as usual! and love the scorpions! 80s solos are the best!
Well said man ... classic classic classic totally classic great classic of the 80’s omg one of the coolest song of my generation thank you so much for teaching it man
I have to say, probably the best and well explained tutorials on the net. Just awesome dude. I especially liked the More Than A Feeling tutorial. Consider me subscribed and thank you again. BTW, I've used 7's and even 6's, just to get my bends lol, makes life so much easier
everytine when the 2nd guitar joins in at the starts gives me chills every damn time
I just broke my high E string on that crazy bend lol
😂😂
brandon godwin Yea I did too haha, it’s a fucking intense one but it sounds so fucking good.
This just happened to me 😢😂
Thats y i use 11s lol
yeah im stopping here cause i dont have extras and just WOW it hurts lol
Love your finesse. Spot on, man! I've used many of your vids. Thanks for doing what you do.
I very much agree that Matthias has great vibrato, it is truly top notch! Great Video and Thank you!
Great Great Lesson, and Great Playing! I saw him live and noticed he didn't do that crazy bend but it still sounded amazing!
I'd wonder if you'd cover a lesson on the song, don't stop at the top , and show it like you did this song. Love the way you show and describe it all. Bless you. \m/
I have just built a Vai grip guitar with a 24 fret neck
Damn dude, you're awesome. Also, thank you for this tutorial. I'm a classically trained pianist so I obviously can read traditional music notation and also can read guitar tabulature quite well, but obviously there's enough technique and variance in how notes can be tabbed out on the guitar using different strings that it's sometimes necessary to just watch someone's video lesson.
Man! Great lesson. You've got a high quality sound. This whole album is full of good guitar too.
+BsongQuest walkswitheagle Yeah, Blackout is a great record for sure. cheers
Enough comments on this already with good reason ! I'v seen some of my other Fav instructors here give this lesson & this one is a little different, seems to be the closest to original as I can hear. As always, a GREAT lesson with the Les Paul (from mellow Bryan Adams to Scream'in Scorpions). BadA** guitar man!!! I'm working on it with my Kramer Pacer, I seem to be the only one that loves them anymore lol. Thanks again, & I also give a vote for the Toto song/solo.
Dude, Thank you for your excellent lesson videos.
Best guitarist I've found on You Tube so far! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! the fact that you play just as the artists recorded it!! GREAT! sound. Would love to know the equipment you use!
Yesssssss Matthias Jabs is so underappreciated!!
Made me grab my guitar right away!thx, S.U!
Thank you for the video, I was searching for someone who got the intro solo right, some of the places I found before was totally wrong
I want you to know that as a novice guitarist, I get more out of your videos than I could tell you.. my current guitar is what you see pictured on my pic.. a Tommy thayer epiphone..... watching you has made me practice even more and harder..... a donation will be coming soon
Great lesson video, thanks for making this video 👍
Incredible! Thanks for taking time to put this up, man. We appreciate it:)!
Jesus man..absolutely nailed Ma Jabs!!
Great lesson. I'd love to see you do a tutorial, or ever a cover of Toto - Hold the line. The solo in that song is intense! REO Speedwagon - Roll with the changes would be pretty cool too!
+da2ricky I second that!
+da2ricky Yeah, that's a very tough solo for sure. Maybe down the road. cheers
+da2ricky David Escobar does hold the line solo perfect....i wanted it also...this dude is great, even better on acoustic. Escobar rips some awesome shit
+David McCollum I've seen his cover! that guy is on another level.
This dude is awesome too
Thanks so much for this video. It may make the difference of me getting in this good band I'm auditioning for. Thanks bro..
Greatly appreciate your channel.
1:12 ".. the whole solo was based around that..."
Amazing!
Rock on! Thanks for this great lesson!
+Brett Bonikowski Thanks Brett.

Awesome lesson. Thank you so much.
Most guys don’t know this , you are so cool . Nice 👍
12:05 sounds like the over the mountain solo
Nice job ....Nicely done !
I was hearing this song thinking man I can't do this then I watched your video and you described it so nice
Your rig sounds really good.
Oh, he got the credit he deserved, when that LP came out he WOWED everyone! And yes, that solo would actually break 10 strings.
9:23 “ok that’s a tricky one”
great lesson...thanks!!!
I went to the Cotton bowl way back in ,87 it was the monsters of Rock I think . One of them this line up was Kingdom Come. Metallic, Dokken , the Scorps and Van Halen. Even though Sammy lost his voice I'm sure you know all about it they had to come back to Dallas in ,91 and do a free show. But that night the tightness the overall showmanship the Scorps stole that show and walk off the stage Eddie didn't have a chance the Scorps we're that good
Mathias jabs the reason I started playing guitar where’s my 83 explorer
thanks for the lesson, great attention to detail and comments. also the visual is perfect! can't stand guys who gotta show their face.
Cool! Thanks for share
Superb Lesson!!
Thank you!!
+Mark Love Thanks again Mark.
the best solo lesson
thats a nice red for the les paul along with the black and white pick ups
great lesson man! thanx A LOT... and yes, Jabs is soooo underated... B-)
Thanks, great job!
Man, I've watched many of your guitar lessons and it's amazing how you get every note right on all of these songs! It's amazing! I don't know if you take request or not but if you were to do a video on how to play Rough Boy by ZZtop, that'd be awesome.
+Tyler Jackson Thanks Tyler, well I get SO many request everyday! But, I really like that song, so maybe down the road. cheers
+Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials Alright man, thank you! I appreciate it a lot.
Hi. Thanks for the lesson. Could you possibly help with the tone and effect. I’m having trouble with it and yours sounds great
Great lesson man. Your lessons are simply the best on UA-cam. I was wondering if you would maybe do some Johnny Winter in the future :)
+Jokull Thanks Jokull. I get SO many requests everyday! But I do like JW, so maybe down the road. cheers
wow dude you can play !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAMN RIGHT ON!
Would you consider doing a video on Elliot Easton solos? The solo in the song "Touch and Go" has me scratchin'.
+BsongQuest walkswitheagle EE is an excellent guitarist, very knowledgeable and always plays really cool and interesting licks. I have to do a Cars song at some point so I'll keep this one in mind. cheers
+Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials Right on man; good assessment of EE.
Awesome bro
hell ye......awesome.......thx tons
really nice thank you
Awesome
Yeaah very good, thank you !
Damn dude that solo was like Memorex perfect. ... kudos. So good I reached rihht up there and hit subscribe. ... just fpund you look forward to scoping out some of your other things. Thanks take care
one of my favorite guitar players he belongs up there with EVH the US Festival the SCORPIONS played before VH and the scorps weren't wasted then in 89 on the monsters of rock tour VH headlined the the SCORPIONS played just before another great show idk how many times I've seen the SCORPIONS but I was never disappointed hope to see them 1 more time before they hang up the guitars MSG is still touring great music from Germany in the 70s not the early 70s i seen the SCORPIONS video from 71? Klaus had hair and a beard the song was awful i didn't recognize Klaus at 1st anyway thanks for the lesson I'll start on it soon I'm already working on another song i don't like doing too many at one time so thank you
One of the best songs ever! Why? Because it takes 1 second to get to a solo!
+LKtube1 Haha!
Gracias maestro
Stellar
Thank you for taking the time... So I've got the solo down, but my vibrato sucks. Terrible. Should vibrato not be a relatively simple thing for most people, unlike me? I can do the fretwork no problem, but why can I not get that sound? Should I be very discouraged that I can pick up the solo well but can't get something that I assume is easy for most people - vibrato?? I should say I'm teaching myself to play (most regularly since 2015) so I don't have practice drills etc that I should be learning/have learned from a teacher. Another reason I'm thankful for people like you taking the time and effort to make these videos; thanks again...Jen
At 3:36 it conflicts with a video I have of him playing the song as a tutorial
fucking love it!!!!!!!! that intro always gives me goosebumps lol so awesome to be able to play it although i will never amount to them but still such a great vibe those high notes i love them
Thanks!
00:12 The high bend you do, when you comeback the note still rings but your fingers are already doing something else. This is recorded over right? Same for 00:28 At 06:25 when you explain it you really let the note ring. So it doesn't make sense to me! :p
What guage strings do you use and what pockups are in your paul? Everything you do or teach sounds authentic! Thank you for your talent!
There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. Cheers
I play SG’s mainly with 10-46 and that bend is no problem, on my LP that’s another story
Dude that was an amazing job on guitar! Congrats! So i going to buy a guitar and start taking lessons, which guitar, amp, pickups, strings etc would your recomend me to sound like Mathias Jabs
I have been playing for a long time. Find a guitar that feels good in your hands. The 80's were a time of super strat's. You can get close to that time with a humbucker and an amp that has good overdrive. Other effects that were used lots : delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, reverb. I have found that an amp with effects built in is the best bang for the buck. Peavey makes some good stuff for a fair price. I am not a pro so bang for my buck is important.
