Without doubt the 80s were the best! I was there and grew up through it. Born in 1970.simply awesome honest less complicated times, without all the brain washing and everyone stuck to screen's now! Atb
Yeah those three intro notes.... when I started playing my buddy mentor told me " you can tell a great player by his bends and vibrato" great words to live by
You know, this remains my favorite song by Adams. Before watching your video, I couldn't really put my finger on why I liked this track so much (possessing such a simple structure, chords, and melody), but now I know: not only is it extremely well-written as you say, but every aspect and subtle detail of the composition meshes so well with each other. The bass, the two guitars, the drums, and vocals are seamlessly integrated into this one great piece of music. You need a band at the top of their game and completely in sync with each other to really pull this off.
Hasan Tawab Hey Hasan, totally agree with your comment bud. The production and the band on that record were really really great, Bob Clearmountain has a great mind for music and hits. cheers
That whole album is great! I own three of the them, one in the house, one in my pickup, and one in my Harley! I saw him a couple years ago in Yuba CityCalifornia, they were beyond great! This is my favorite of his songs, but they are all good! Simple lyrics, great chords, and he has great charisma with the crowd!
The best tutorial on any song I've seen yet. This guy is concise and fluent with his explanations besides being a great player. He opened my eyes and ears as to how much this song consists of. I'll be listening to song with a different feeling and understanding and appreciation from now on.
I am really impressed how you picked up on the two guitars playing the intro,,,,and even more blown away by how they came to realize just how much more that little difference in notes coming together as one made. !!! Ingeneis,,,and exactly why they are called musicians Thank you sir! I would never have picked up in that! 😎✌✝💕🌴
You talking about guitar players wanting to play 1000 notes is without question the greatest thing i have ever heard. I like to get high and watch your videos. I do not play guitar even close to well enough to be able to play this stuff.
Excellent, short and to the point, not the never-ending "this string, this fret, upstroke, downstroke" etc etc, as if they're teaching a drummer how to play it. Love these " Here's the song, watch this!" videos
God Bless you for this!! haha. I'm a guitarist and a HUGE Adams fan. I want to play stuff exactly like he does, and there is one spot in the chorus that I'd seen him play live, but could never figure out what he was doing! No sheet music ever accurately described it either...but you just did. You have NO idea how much that had been bugging me haha. That little B7 riff right before the chorus. You're the man. Thanks!
So great again and what a killer sound. You're by far the best teacher on the net to my opinion. Great explanation, great view on the fretboard, awesome sound and understandable
Dude, fantastic lesson of an amazing tune. And your advice/wisdom re: "playing less notes well, not more notes fast" is timely in our current climate. Thank you for the effort of helping us.
This is one of the best tutorials I have seen.... You make so many excellent points, especially about what people want ot hear and to help them access their feelings with what the songs says and how it is executed.. Your ego is completely out of the way... Many people will likely go back in their mind to that time in the eighties when this song was so popular... If you want some inspiration, go watch Bryan Adams and his band play this song Live at Leeds in 2014. Bryan Adams can still stand and deliver with the best of them.... His acoustic version of this song is particularly powerful.... Thanks again for putting such quality info up
Carl Patterson Hey Carl, thanks for that very insightful comment. 99% of listeners don't know or care about the technical side of music, they just want to feel something, this is what a lot of musicians tend to forget about and why guys like BB King sell more records than guys who can shred. Shred says, "Look at what I can do!" and a guy like BB says, "Do you feel what I feel?" Just my take on it. cheers
***** Well, I have a different take on this. To me Run To You is a very good pop song. The strength of it for me has a lot to do with how it's arranged, produced and played by the band. The lyrics although clever are not deep in any way and have no lasting significance. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't like when artists play songs like this all stripped down, almost like it's such an epic and important song that it doesn't need the band. There's only 3 guys that I can handle doing that and that's Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Cockburn and Bob Dylan. Their songs have SO much depth and impact they stand on there own easily. These guys are the poets of our generation who have something to say. Although BA is a great pop writer, his tunes are pure ear candy and have no real depth. But he does sell a TON of records, and you can make a LOT more money touring if you don't have to pay the band and move all the gear around the country !Just my take bro.
You are truly an expert in playing and teaching! So much knowledge and detail in every lesson, beautifully explained. It must be thrilling to play a guitar with such skill, keep up the good work man, regards from Durban, South Africa.
I have had some physical setbacks in my playing due to an Ulnar nerve issue that I've stated before. After 40 years of playing I had all of that come crashing to a halt with a slip in the driveway last winter that crushed my Ulnar nerve channel in my elbow. Your videos keep me keeping on brother, and I look forward to everything you post, as you you motivate me to not stop playing. For this I thank you. Your friend on the North Coast of Ohio.. Sincerely Mark,
reso1349 Hey Mark, that really sucks about your elbow, that's just a freak accident that could have happened to anyone right? I'm glad to know that my vids in some small way are keeping the flame burning bro. Never give up right? cheers
Just want say massive thank you for this lesson of this fabulous song i love. You hit the nail on the head when you mention doing the simple things really well ! Rather than the complex twiddle findley note playing . Completey agree ! Thank you soo much. Hope you are still able to see the comments as your video was a few years ago 😊 🎸
Love your lessons you are always right on. Your sound is great and easy to understand. I haven't played in 20 yrs until last November then i discovered utube been great for 60 yr old almost retired finally learning how to play guitar. Only learned the basics years ago with lessons and got bored with it. Now who knows there's lots of retirees still playing maybe the next Hendrix, Vonn etc. lol. Thanks again
+iamhogfan17 Hey, iv'e been collecting guitars for 30 years iv'e a fantastic collection , so sod walking around garden centres aimlessly with the power of you tube enjoy the rest of your life you dont know whats around the corner ??????
You are absolutely right when you say that they are many guys that either play out of tune or time or both. Absolutely Right! And they don't even know it.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial the explanation is spot on which isn’t patronising thank you for such a great lesson. Yes the song is so simple but it really opens everything up to a different level the way you explain it
I agree with you on the amount of notes played. I'm not a great player, but it doesn't impress me to be a fast note picker and to be able to cram all the notes into a measure that one can. It prove's nothing. I myself like the music to be clean and not noisey. For myself, "Run To You" is how I like to play and sound. Thanks for the lessons, they help a lot.
Holy shit i couldn't even pick a guitar. But im stoned and came across this video and just watching and listening. You are great. If i were to ever pick up a guitar i would want to lern from you. Hats off to you hope more people view your channel
Man i just adore your playing. Not a lot of people can play like they use to in the old days. I frigging love that red les paul too. I have a maroon burst les paul but always loved the red, keep rocking
Just saw Bryan Adams last Friday and Keith Scott is still hitting those same right notes so perfectly.... me... yeah I am still learning by watching this 😊
Great lesson! Watched it one time to get the basics and have been playing it but came back to watch again because I wasn't getting that great C#7 (Bm7) chord sound in the pre-chorus. I love how you grab all the details. Really makes a difference!
Thank a million man . I getting so lazy in my old age. I used to have to spend hours with a turntable picking out lead etc. Bless you You-Tube Guys. BTW a great guitar song, well executed and well presented. I love a song that sounds so powerful yet it is to too complicated.
Dude just want to say Hi from the UK.. your prolly one of the best teachers on YT.. Love your talkin methods and playing style, Really nicely done... Very warming and insightful. Glad a stumbled onto your channel. Grabbing all your lessons.. It would cost me a fortune to have lessons of this quality face to face.. props... Thanks alot..
Thankyou for this great lession. Like your teaching and your introd. to the songs too. Startet 4years ago to learn playing electric guitars, your videos and choice of songs are exactly what i want. And thanks for the lizzystuff!💥
THANK YOU for this amazing lesson! My band's final rehearsal was last night for a major gig scheduled for tomorrow ... and this made the list thanks to this excellent tutorial. The tips on achieving the 80s guitar tone was super helpful, too. Thanks again. Looking forward to many more S&P tutorials.
Thanks Stephen. I put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for all of those that can't afford to pay, but if you're getting something from them and have the means please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
I love your lessons. They are succinct but the additional intro background is really interesting so don't feel like you need to limit that. So well done. Thank you.
everything you just said about this song I agree it's very well written and I never even thought of playing it but what a great song and people love it!!I'm doing it now
Thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial, I keep watching it over and over, it is a brilliant lesson, I love this song, I have always been a big fan of Bryan Adams........ I have always got by on the guitar for many many years but never quite mastered it, would love to be able to play to your standard and now hopefully with your tutorials and a lot more practise I will be able to, so a big thank you to you, best wishes, John
On my DigiTech RP1000 I just put on some light overdrive, chorus, 8th note delay, compression, and a slight amount of reverb. I am impressed with how close I got to the original sound.
MrTrazzie I grew up in the same home town as Keith and the cover bands I played in played some of the the same venues as Keith's band. I ran in to him a few times on the road. He was a real standout guitarist even back then. He deserves all the success he's attained even if he's tragically overlooked by the guitar community. He's a pretty reserved dude, extremely humble and easy going as well as being a great player. cheers
Growing up in Vancouver, this WAS the sound of the city. I met Bryan Adams (Actually drove his car once doing valet at a restaurant called Villa de Lupo) He was really nice, not with the high and mighty attitude some celebrities get.
Hahaha "youd be surprised how many guys cant play in tune or in time!" I learned quickly 50 years ago not to believe anyone who says they play until i actually hear them, cause there are more b.s. artists than musicians. Excellent tutorial by the way!
You only have this guitar? You should own more, you definitely deserve to treat yourself, because you're a very good guitarist. I'm kinda the type that learned for a long time, the "old way" (like Mick Ralphs, except I had tablature books!) and it takes me a lot to congratulate other guitarists, but you I congratulate, YOU SERIOSULY ROCK! And you know your stuff, too. It shows when guitarist doesn't rely on pedals and shit like that to get the sounds. Like when you said, it's clean, but it's got a bit of dirt, so I just use the dirty channel and turn my guitar volume down. YES!
I can't understand why some YT viewers insist on hitting dislike on your videos. You play it exactly like the artists. Is it that that they don't like or is it the artist in general. If so,, why do they bother viewing. Perhaps it's because they can hit the thumbs down.....grippers for life.
+eagle52 It's OK, no matter what you put out there there will always be somebody who doesn't like it and even though I'm cool with that, I still don't like seeing the thumbs down right! haha cheers
the best songs are always the simplest. the verse, chorus, everything just gets stuck in your head.
the 80s had some of the best music ever.
ms3bani Yeah I agree, their was some really excellent music in the eighties for sure. Thanks for watching bud.
I saw Bryan Adams open for Journey on their Frontiers tour in 1983. STILL ranks as one of the best shows EVER. And yeah. I've seen a few.
Absolutely great music!
Were you at Cal Jam II ? Then you don’t really know who had the best music do you. You have no frame of reference. 😝
Without doubt the 80s were the best! I was there and grew up through it. Born in 1970.simply awesome honest less complicated times, without all the brain washing and everyone stuck to screen's now! Atb
The simple ones are the ones that get the soul moving. Really great lesson.
You hit this one out of the ballpark. As usual :) You get the subtleties of a song as no one else can. Thank you!
As I'm watching this again, I'm shocked how close you got to his original tone. Wow!
Just AWESOME. The guitar tone and effects are near perfect to original song.
I watched your video years ago and to me, you're the best teacher on the web. Great explanations, great view, great play. Hat off. Thanks
Yeah those three intro notes.... when I started playing my buddy mentor told me " you can tell a great player by his bends and vibrato" great words to live by
How could you possibly thumbs down this video?
Must be a Nickel Back fan.
that harmony in the 'solo' always gets me still to this day - very 80s vibe

How can such a simple riff be so epic, memorable and fantastic.

You'll learn to play better when not stoned. Just sayin'....
Guitar Tone Quest so true, but when you’re high it sounds sooo much better 👍🏻
Amazing guitar lesson!
Thanks so much for showing how this rock classic is performed, brilliant tutor and loved every minute!

one of my favorite songs from the 80s...and so simple to play and sing along with. Now, if I only had Brian's mind blowing rock voice...
Dude, fantastic lesson of an amazing tune. And your advice/wisdom re: "playing less notes well, not more notes fast" is timely in our current climate. Thank you for the effort of helping us.
Fabulous lesson..so I'm interested in the background to the song. Love it thank you 🤘🎸👏
How could you possibly thumbs down this video?
Must be a Nickel Back fan.
Just AWESOME. The guitar tone and effects are near perfect to original song.
Absolutely fantastic guitar lesson on "Run to You"! I am an intermediate guitar player and this really has helped me! Thank you and great job!
Excellent breakdown of this song! As always your attention to detail is spot on!
one of my fave songs of all time! Now inspired to get out the electric and have a go! Thank you

The Bm11 (well actually C#m11) before the chorus- NOBODY but you ever does that right. Ever. Great to see it.

Good Lesson! I love this Riff, it's so simple but genius! With a kind of echo vocals Adams also delieveres a Goosebump song!
Savoir001 Thanks, yeah being simple is the most complex thing you'll ever do! cheers
everything you just said about this song I agree it's very well written and I never even thought of playing it but what a great song and people love it!!I'm doing it now
100% agree...Keith Scott is such an under rated guitarist
John Moss For sure, his playing is a huge part of BA's sound.
Omg this tone you have is so spot on!!! awesome guitar lesson bro. sounds just like the album version
Great number..understated brilliance behind Adams vocal..
Once again a great sound and lesson. Bryan Adams is one of my favourites.
eagle52 Thanks
Great lesson, appreciated your teaching, knowledge and guitar philosophy, the simple is the best. Thank you

Salt and lime life Pcbflausa Hey bud, thanks for stopping by again. I appreciate your positive vibes! cheers
On my DigiTech RP1000 I just put on some light overdrive, chorus, 8th note delay, compression, and a slight amount of reverb. I am impressed with how close I got to the original sound.
Thank you, you are an awesome guitarist and teacher, very much appreciated. God bless you 🙏❤
Thanks for this lesson. I just learned this song and I thought I knew it. Thanks for making me realize that there's a lot more there.

Andreas Hoppe Yep, I agree with you Andreas! cheers
Nailed it Bro! Great Lesson. Love this tune. THANKS and CHEERS!
Still a super good lesson in 2019. Thanks!
The best tutorial for this song ever, great.
I subscribed to your channel a little while back but I just wanted to say you do a great job with these lessons. Thanks!
Awesome job. Ive played that a few ways in Cover bands. Keith is a BEAST!
Bang on, especially about Keith Scott, amazingly talented guy! And, for those of you who can't see (hear) it, it's your loss, musically speaking.
Thanks Mike! Always loved this song. I've often thought the guitarists were often overlooked .. Including Bryans playing
Hahaha "youd be surprised how many guys cant play in tune or in time!" I learned quickly 50 years ago not to believe anyone who says they play until i actually hear them, cause there are more b.s. artists than musicians.
Excellent tutorial by the way!
Absolutely. Playing is playing...talking about playing is just talking!
Excellent......Thank you so much for this lesson. Always a favorite track of mine.

Thanx mate. You are a good tutor, and you play really well.
great lesson, especially on the lead notes, thanks a million.
Great lesson. Lots of little helpful tips that carry over to all other tunes. Great sound out of the guitar.
I can't understand why some YT viewers insist on hitting dislike on your videos. You play it exactly like the artists. Is it that that they don't like or is it the artist in general. If so,, why do they bother viewing. Perhaps it's because they can hit the thumbs down.....grippers for life.
+eagle52 It's OK, no matter what you put out there there will always be somebody who doesn't like it and even though I'm cool with that, I still don't like seeing the thumbs down right! haha cheers
you're right. This guy is by far the best teacher on UA-cam. every song I've ever seen him teach was 100% note for note.
