Crystal clear... it's fun to find a scenic road with lots of curves and downshift as you enter the curve then upshift as the curve unwinds... for those new to driving stick shift, this helps one learn a lot about how car transmissions work as a bonus
How many gears does this Dodge Challenger have? I am asking, since I drive a Ford with six gears and that thing will automatically downshift if I slow down below 30 MPH in fifth. This Challenger stays in fifth at around 25 MPH? The way I drive is this: I keep my RPM gauge between 1.5K and 2.5K at almost all times. In order to do this, I shift into second gear at 10 MPH, third gear at 20 MPH, fourth gear at 30 MPH, fifth gear at 40 MPH, and sixth gear at 55 MPH. Fifth gear is a bit taller than those first four gears. At which speeds are your usual shift points and where do you believe your ideal RPM range should be?
I have the 8 speed auto in mine. I agree with you. When I go manual I like to shift at about 2K RPMs. If I’m having fun in sport mode maybe I’ll get it up to 4K here and there. But the car does its natural shifting around that 2K so I like to keep it there also. Thank you for the input and for watching!
The RPM’s are the important part. There are many gears you could be in for many speeds so if you’re looking to go back down a gear, just makes sure your RPM’s aren’t high for that shift. Being below 2,000RPM’s is a good benchmark. You can do it with higher RPM’s but you can’t do it so high that you’ll reach redline. Thank you for watching!

Could you explain how to know when to downshift? Like at what speed and rpm when slowing down should I drop a gear.
