  • Jeremy McGrath is the King of Supercross. With 72 wins and 7 championships he stands alone as the man inside a stadium. Obviously I am a lifelong fan of MC but it wasn't until recently we got to hang out at Mammoth Motocross where I got to see the secret to all of his success. He really love riding his dirtbike.

    McGrath, next to dudes like windham, is such a likeable dude. Every interview I’ve ever seen him in, he’s just stoked to be involved in racing as a whole. True love for the sport, not to mention his incredible career.

      That because he wasn’t set in the path to be a pro when he was a kid so he held onto the love of racing. Winning all the time helped.

      His parents helped by not trying to be self important unlike so many other parents. Jack Mcgrath attended a ton of Jeremys races but if you didn't know who he was he never drew attention to himself. There were a lot of parents that were very harmful to their childrens careers.

    Great story about McGrath and to me why is the greatest sportsman in our sport. I was at the Sheffield supercross the year Jeremy raced Everts and one of the French media guys told me he was going to McGraths camper to do an interview. I asked could I come along and he allowed that. We went into the camper and Jeremy was like hey, Christopher, how are you man, haven't seen you in a while. I was like, wow, this Christopher must be great mates with Jeremy. I was introduced and pretty stoked about that. Six months later, I am walking through the pits at one of the AMA SX races and somebody yells out, hey, Geoff. I turn around and its McGrath!!! That is typically who he was as a person, we were all the same in his eyes, he wasn't better than us, he was one of us. Every time I met him after that, he was always super cool, friendly and just liked a chat. Be it at the Fastcross in Italy and him complimenting my shoes, or inviting me to his house at the Daytona Supercross. Big respect for Jeremy McGrath for just being a super nice person. 100% coolest rider the sport has ever seen.

    I was a huge Emig fan in the 90's and always looked at McGrath as being cocky and arrogant but honestly he never was and watching these interviews he is a very cool and down to earth dude. He has every right to be an arrogant dude with all of his accomplishments but he isn't. Truly a legend of the sport and one of the best of all time.

    I've been watching motorsports my entire life, to that point, my childhood was FULL of Jeremy McGrath, and I had never thought about how the fitness game being elevated to an extreme level was always going to happen in every single sport, and I just realized that at 46. If a sport hasn't pushed fitness to the limit, it leaves something on the table for someone wanting to close the gap to the manufacturer teams specifically. Then when that person has pushed themselves to the limit, and THEN gets the factory ride, oh boy! That's what we saw with RC I think. I had never put all those pieces together, but hearing JM talk about it, that's exactly what happened.

    • @Tony.795
      @Tony.795 4 місяці тому

      The more laid-back lifestyle that they had in the 90s ended with Carmichael when he professionalized it without compromises. It was the logical step to bring physical fitness and nutrition into such a physical sport.

    I agree MC was undertrained in '01. RC checked out once he knew he could do 20 laps WFO. He was the only guy that could. MC did come back stronger, and from the riding I saw at the US Open he had RC covered. I don't think it was an issue of leanness like he said. He messed his back up, so his arms would pump up and anyone that's ridden on a track knows it's next to impossible to ride with arm pump aside from competing at that level. And that's really what we saw. Then Yamaha pimped him on his contract, he got a nice deal at KTM and a bike not ready for primetime through him off. Purely the KTM 250 stutter in a rhythm. One scary crash like that and not really knowing whether you can compete on that bike - hang it up as the King and announce a tour. I'm happy I got to see a glimpse of the US Open race cause that's the strongest I've seen him ride, ever.

He appeared on the scene as the internet exploded and video platforms became King. The introduction of the Nac Nac was rockstar level and Supercross become a fever. I've always been a Honda fan and I love Jeremy McGrath back in my day I'm 53 years old so the same you know era of his time and I always loved him you know because he rode Honda he dominated with Honda when he switched just when you know I kind of got off the fence of being a fan because you know I don't care if my Honda's winning or not if I like Honda then I'm going to go with Honda if I like Kawasaki then I will go with Kawasaki that's just the way I've always been don't matter if they ain't want to race in 30 years if that's who I like then that's who I'm always be it has nothing to do but they win or they don't win to me that just shows the weakness of the country the weak mindedness of the country that they can shift so easy when I was brought up by older people you know that was born in 1919 and 1921 and there was a thing in America or at least it used to be you know left just killed it these days but there was a thing about pride and you know and character and and just having value and stuff like that you know your handshake was better than the contract you did you did what you said you were going to do no matter what and that's just the way I've always been we see a weaker version of men and women these days that have no character no values see no righteousness and right living which is pretty much what righteousness means it's just right living and to complain about seeing their life go up in Flames because they're trying to live unripe or unrighteous and wondering why it don't work the same way because right living will always work better than unrighteous living you have no values you keep no value to yourself or your body or the way you carry yourself or who you give yourself to you know we got a week week country right now especially in our youth and it's been done and pushed systematically through social media through colleges and through this well this is a socialist movement that is convinced a bunch of kids that don't know their butt from a hole in the ground because they never had to live life yet that these ideologies are no good sticking to their guns like they used to be

    Was thinking about Ricky the other day. It’s Gotta be a trip to be the GOAT of motorcross. He’s a god to millions but a nobody to billions. Crazy to think about

      You don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s extremely powerful in the business, not only the dirt bike aspect of it but motor sports in general. Don’t dog on him just because he’s not the worlds greatest commentator.

    Some people don’t realize what rc had to do to beat McGrath. If Carmichael didn’t start training like he did, McGrath would probably have 1 or 2 more championships and the sport would be a lot different today. McGrath was smoking them just riding his bike.
