  • Bob Jenkins has long been one of American auto racing's most beloved broadcasters. He called races from the late-1970s to the mid-2010s and has been enshrined in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. From NASCAR to IndyCar, Bob's voice has called some of the most iconic moments in recent auto racing. These are some of his best calls.

      @Kevin Nix Bob Jenkins basically made NASCAR and in a case Indycar for what it is at this point in time when it comes to announcing... That time in the 1980s and 1990s made those two motorsports legendary.

      Not only should Bob get the Squier-Hall Award, but he should get it twice alongside Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett for becoming the never-to-be-matched benchmark of announcing greatness.

    Coming here after hearing the news of Bob's passing. Without that voice, I'm not sure I'm the motorsports fiend that I am today.

    Bob’s best moment was at Sonoma when Joe Nemechek crashed the Burger King car and Bob said he was in a “ Whopper of an accident” 🤣. I’ll never forget that. 😁

      That was actually Eli Gold.
      *NOTE:* Eli was notorious for that "Whopper of a hit" quote when a Burger King car crashes, especially one particular time at New Hampshire... If Bob ever used that sane line, I'm not aware of it.

    Years ago when Bob retired from TV announcing, surprisingly only 2 tribute videos were done: 1 by NBC Sports Network, & 1 by me.
    Glad that after nearly 9 years there's an upgraded alternate version of my video. Thank you.
    Bob Jenkins is the TRUE GOAT of all racing announcers!

    May he Rest In Peace; haven’t watched
    NASCAR since about 2004;but followed closely from 79 until then. Had to come listen to this after hearing of his passing. Maybe I’ll go watch a VHS tape of one of Terry Labontes wins and reminisce some more. Feel like I just lost a friend I never actually met.

    AND BOTH OF THEM SPIN!!!.....Classic call by Bob Jenkins! I was watching that race and my heart sank to my stomach because Dale Sr would've taken the points lead and possibly the 1989 championship win a win that day! RIP Bob Jenkins, you will always be the voice of NASCAR in my opinion!

    It is crazy how engrained Bob Jekins is in my life.....Every Sunday it seems he was calling a NASCAR race....I didn’t know he got his start in Indycar til much much later.....He is really the gold standard of play by play racing announcers

    Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett, and old BP were part of my childhood growing up. If anyone deserves to be in the HOF, Bob Jenkins is that guy. Next to Ken squier, there was no one better on Television. Barney Hall will always be the GOAT on radio

    The thing I liked most about Bob was when he called a race it was like he was sitting on the couch beside you. He was a real fan, a true professional.

    I can honestly close my eyes and still hear “ESPN! The worldwide leader in sports, and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing welcome you live to (track name)!!” all these years later. Bob Jenkins belongs on the Mount Rushmore of broadcasters with Ken Squier and Barney Hall

    Thank you so much for posting this, exactly what I needed after learning of Bob's passing today after a courageous battle with brain cancer. The Bob/Benny/Ned booth/family had as much to do with the growth of NASCAR in the 80s and 90s as any driver and his Indy radio calls are legendary. He absolutely should've already been in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. RIP Bob.

    Had the privilege of meeting Bob briefly at the Gateway IndyCar race in 2019. Great man and a consummate professional. Best wishes to him in his cancer fight.

    So underrated. Never here him talked about but he’s my all time favorite. Didn’t have to scream and yell to get his excitement across. And seems like an absolute gentleman. Deserves his rightful spot in the HOF. Sooner than later before his sickness takes him. Doesn’t seem to be embraced at large by nascar for whatever reason. It’s a shame.

    His voice was NASCAR and Indy to me. Fond memories of hearing him call races while I rooted for Jimmy Spencer. I remember watching Speed Vision before bed when I was a kid, they'd replay sports car racing out of Europe. So many great times back in the 90's and early 2000's. What a time to be alive, and thank you to everyone from Bob Jenkins to Murray Walker for the memories. The races simply wouldn't be the same being called by anyone else.

    As a NASCAR fan some of my earliest memories are of Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett doing races on ESPN. They were a tremendous team and Bob Jenkins had a very smooth and energetic style and it was perfect for broadcasting NASCAR. I have fond memories of his work on ESPN, that's for sure.

    Im 42 and grew up in Bristol. Nascar was my entire life and hobby as a kid. Bob's voice is imprinted in my brain and was in the top 2 Nascar commentators. We listened to the radio alot on Sundays so the MRN crew is #1 for me.

    One of the best to ever do it. Loved watching any race he called. He was interesting and it never felt manufactured. You could see his genuine interest in the sport.

    Watching these classic races, I would definitely consider the 1990s ESPN crew of Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett, Benny Parsons, Jerry Punch and John Kernan my personal NASCAR dream team commentator crew.
    And I see I'm not the only one that saw this in the updates and feared the worst
