2000s nascar is really nostalgic to me. I remember every time I went to my grandmas I would go hang out with my grandpa in the garage and watch nascar with him. He’d always have a pizza in the pizza oven. Miss you gramps

I have such mixed feelings about the 2000's. It was great to see the sport get such mainstream popularity, and there were great moments, but it always felt like the geeky kid at school who suddenly got popular and didn't know how to handle it. Big money pulled it away from the things that made it popular and there were some serious growing pains that cost the sport (multi car team mergers, top 35 rule, cookie cutters, general costs via season ticket requirements etc). the sport got puled back by the big recession because it wasn't sustainable. NASCAR is making good strides now, with some cool and fun and different things while still appreciating the past. I'm more nostalgic for the Discovery Era of '85-'00 than the Mainstream Boom era.
It was quite the honor to be such a huge nascar fan in 90’s and early 00’s before they tried too hard. The chase and lack of unique drivers and personalities is what lost my interest
I was a NASCAR geek from birth (1992) since 2015 when I got tied up with other things in life. being a kid in the 2000s I was still picked on for being a NASCAR fan in school. to this day I still don't understand it

In my opinion 2002 was the pinnacle. The cars didn't have common templates, the points system was legit, the cars were fast and harder to drive, the competition was fierce, the drivers feared getting hurt and wouldn't make as many bonehead moves, old school racers were still out there winning races, sponsors were actual things that the general public knew of. The only thing missing was Dale Sr, but at that time he was still fresh on our minds. Yeah it wasn't perfect, there's some things that are better today. But over all, 2002 was lit.
I can agree with you on the common templates bit. Whilst the Cup cars at that point BORE ALMOST no semblance to their street legal counterparts, it was easy to tell what was a Chevy from a Pontiac and a Ford.

You ain't wrong, NASCAR in the 2000s was Awesome, even with the Boxy COT, Races were Phenomenal. And the Cars had Unrestricted 850 HP, and the Marketing for NASCAR Drivers was also Cool in the 2000s. I started watching NASCAR in 1994. It was awesome seeing it rise in popularity into the 2000s. Then after Dale Sr. died NASCAR started its terrible rule changes. And they didn't stop until they ruined the sport and now they can't even sell out Bristol.
The safety changes were needed and I'm sorry it took Earnhardt dying to wake them up to that. The Chase, while clearly inferior to the old points system wasn't really that bad. The biggest sin, the one NASCAR continues to commit is turning their backs on their southern hard-core fanbase to chase yankee and casual dollars. Am I against expansion? No, but Rockingham, North Wilksboro, those old perfectly good tracks that people loved were all sacrificed on the altar of greed.
@@kevinramsey417 The yellow line rule didn't improve safety. Changing how yellow flags worked didn't improve safety. They did give NASCAR even more ways to manipulate races though.

When I was a little kid, my dad was always home on Sundays and I remember watching nascar and falling asleep on the couch to the sound of engines when I was about 5. This gives me such nostalgia since I'm 22 now.

Dale Earnhardt was my hero. I was 11 in 2001 when Harvick won that race and as a 32 year old grown ass man I still cant watch the clip without tearing up. And it's the exact same with the 2001 Pepsi 400.
2006 was such a great year for me. I got my license, I was a junior in high school, and as a Harvick fan it was so exciting! I haven’t watched a race since 2011. The last one I went to was Talladega when Carl flipped into the fence.
I miss 2000s NASCAR. Born in 2001, I grew up with it. A local NAPA near me still sells early 2000s NASCAR memorabilia. It also happens to be the only NAPA around here that still lets their employees smoke. Love going in there. Takes me back to being a kid every time.
When I watch this all I can hear is Wheezers - Memories. I have a tear of happiness remembering all the great times Ive had and will continue to have with my family watching this amazing sport.

Same here, for me no other season after lived up to the excitement of 2005, those spine-tingling finishes that year got me so excited as a kid, and 2008 it just seemed like they were spread out and Jimmie Johnson wouldn't stop winning championships and anyone who even gave him a good challenge choked it away.

Nascar "Was" great... In the 2000s you had drivers that mostly all worked their way up to get to where they were, all had some talent, the racing was exciting and now it's you tube stars, how much money your daddy has, Iracing nascar wannabes, and no talent drivers getting top rides...

I used to stay almost every weekend at my grandparents. My aunt was living there as well at the time. We would always have the race on.
