  • On August 16-17, 1993, NASCAR tested at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in anticipation of the first Brickyard 400 a year later. A combined crowd of over 100,000 fans attended the two-day test. ESPN had coverage in the form of a half-hour highlight show. Includes a hard crash for Kenny Wallace and a four-car crash involving John Andretti, Mark Martin, PJ Jones, and Jimmy Spencer. Also included is a feature on PJ Jones and an interview with Richard Petty and David Pearson.
For video from the first test in June 1992, watch this:

It’s because bill jr was in charge and Brian France was sent out to the west coast to stay out of the way and out of sight and out of mind.

I remember my dad and I went to the second test day when King Richard took his laps. I remember my parents put in a ticket order but they allocated by lottery for the first year and we didn’t win. I was so disappointed. My dad and I ended up getting tickets for the 95 Brickyard and that was very memorable because it rained all day. We waited at the shuttle area near the Hoosier Dome for a few hours before we decided to head home. We were on 65 in downtown Indy listening to the race show on the radio when Mike Helton made the announcement to start engines. We turned around on N Emerson and got to our seats by lap 25.

everytime i watch the old races or a documentary on the nascar of epoch i have the balls, I miss that time when the cars were oldsmobil cutlass, lumina, monte carlo, buick thunderbirds (even if buick stopped in 93) and above all the paints were real paint schemes, beautifully painted and recognizable, not schemes that changed every 4 mornings.
I have was always loved the circuit of Brickyeards , it's a beautiful monument with his historical story

    • 1st Saturday of May - IRP (Saturday, 6:30 pm ET) (350 Laps)
    • Mother's Day Saturday - Brickyard 300 (Saturday, 12nn ET)
    - Yeah The Indy Oval is now 300 miles long not 400
    • A Week Later - Indy Road Course (72 Laps) (Saturday, 11:30 am ET)
    - Use the F1 Layout
    - Ran Backwards
    - Instead of using the Flat Out Turn 5 and 6 used by IndyCar, use the Carousel Corner
