      -Add Hue/Saturation and bring saturation to 0%
      -Add Curves and bring both the left and the right slider to the exact middle. You will now have an image that's fully 50% gray.

    Lol thanks to Andrew Kramer and VideoCopilot we no longer need to struggle and waste time in a 3d package trying to create a realistic looking planets especially the render step which is just ridiculous if you have animations !

    • @BlauwFilms
      @BlauwFilms  4 роки тому +1

      Very true, in most situations if you need a quick realistic planet VC Orb does the trick. But at the end of the day it doesn't beat the control you have over your planet in a 3d suite. I like to just include the render-farm budget to the production budget of whatever I'm working on.

    How long is the rendertime with corona renderer? Planning on doing a 1-2 min space shortfilm but don't wanna wait hours and hours for every tiny shot. (I'm having a gtx 1070 and I7-8700k for reference)

    • @BlauwFilms
      @BlauwFilms  3 роки тому

      Thanks Jannis! The render times for a 4K shot are about 2 hours a frame so that's why I opted for using a long lens and just rendering a still. This also has to do with the size of the textures I'm using. Texture size is the first thing to take the render times through the roof. In this example the textures are 20K. If you use 4K textures and render at 1920x1080 you should be fine to render an animation. Here's a video on our Instagram in which I used the 4K textures: instagram.com/p/B-UcX9tpiOl/ The result works pretty much the same as long as your shot is a bit further away. Cheers! Leo

      Hello, absolutely. That sounds great! I will give this a deeper dive (maybe even a Mars specific tutorial). But for now the tips I can give you are:
      -The atmosphere should be a thinner layer. -The Refraction index of Carbon Monoxide is about 1.0 -You could use some XPresso tags to let the refraction react to a different light source with a different color. Have a look at my Saturn tutorial for that :) cheers

    Hey, thank you for an awesome tutorial. I have a minor problem, light seems to shine trough water from inside the earth and then glows in dark parts. Is there a way to fix that

    • @BlauwFilms
      @BlauwFilms  3 роки тому

      Hey Joris! Thanks for the comment! It’s due to the Volumetric effect. Since I’ve made this tutorial I’ve been playing around with simply using a highly reflective water material without volumetric scattering. Also using a SSS effect instead can give you good results.
      With the volumetric scattering effect you get pretty cool results when it’s lit from the front but you do end up with see through.
      What you could try as well is adding a black disc object inside, scaled up to fit the inside cross-section of the planet. It could then be used as a block for volume. By using a target tag on the disc you could have it face the camera I believe :)
      Hope this helps! Leo

    I work in corona render in c4d too, but I have a problem in figuring out how to add city lights to my planet. Any suggestions how this can be done?

    • @BlauwFilms
      @BlauwFilms  4 роки тому +1

      I'd make a new texture with the city lights map and apply that to a new layer in the Layered material. Then you'd have to mask it out to appear only on the shadow area. You could achieve that manually by using a gradient ramp as a mask and controlling the sliders until the look is correct! :)

    • @dimagorbenko8253
      @dimagorbenko8253 4 роки тому +1

      wow, looks like it worked, thanks! I’ve been doing a colonized Pluto render and felt like the lights were missing, but the result is just mind-blowing! Though it doesn’t adapt to whether the sun is shining at it or if it’s in the planet’s shadow like it does in VC Orb but I never liked it because rendering a planet using textures with a very large definition in VC Orb is a real pain in the ass 😂😂😂 So I guess toggling the gradient depending on its rotation will do the job. What I got is just perfect for a scene anyway! Thank you once more!

    • @BlauwFilms
      @BlauwFilms  4 роки тому +1

      @@dimagorbenko8253 That's great to hear! Maybe you could use some Xpresso controls to connect a 3D-linear gradient to the rotation of your light source. I haven't tried this out myself yet but it could potentially work haha! I'll give it a try sometime soon.
      Yes I agree... VC Orb is great for far distant planets in my opinion. Cheers!

      @@JakeMMC Thanks a lot! Yeah absolutely, I'll try to incorporate as much as I can into the video. I'm slowly shifting the Blauw Films content to be less of a straight forward "button-clicking" tutorial and more of a workflow guide that includes all the important steps. That way there is far less compositing involved and you get a much nicer result straight from the render.
