  • In this video I revisit the Xbox one that has no power. In trying to diagnose the issue, I attempt to remove a MOSFET and struuuuugglle with it. Is it the station? Is it me? A bit of both?

Tools Used in this video (affiliate links):
Soldering Station (it's cheap but I've had no issues) - amzn.to/3OGfglf
    iFixit Driver Kit - amzn.to/43NSDzZ
    Tweezers - amzn.to/3qAN4qn
    Solder Wick Braid - amzn.to/43Oyn0V
    Isopropyl alcohol - amzn.to/3NiWcbV
Hot Air Station (I don't recommend for thick boards and big chips. It seems to perform okay with smaller chips, capacitors that are on thinner boards. Overall it's cheap so don't expect much.) - amzn.to/47Sq3QN

My huge problem with hot air stations is my lack of patience actually XD Be sure not to rush it so no traces get ripped!

My fear is burning the board or another component by keeping the hot air on too long. It’s a fine line right?

@@FixMoreWasteLess I sadly don’t know what’s the limit but I guess it’s pretty high… also if you heat it too much the pad snaps from the board :( (that happened to me with solder iron more than air though) so better practice with some broken boards first! I think my hot air station was around 400ºC and mid air force to avoid near components from flying away xD
Also kapton tape to protect surrounding areas is always nice!

Amazing how it dissipates the heat. If you have any low melting point solder, that might help though.

The board really does suck it away. I thought about using something like leaded or low melt to help but I feel like it shouldn’t need it for a piece this size. I’m itching to try a more powerful station and see how that does.

I've removed them with a £20 hot air gun. The trick I use is to get the area warm with a heat gun then come in with the hot air gun.

Nice! I think I might be too impatient for that. Still wonder if the cheap hot air gun I had was just a dud. It just never would get hot enough.

Sadly no. I ended up using the board as practice and as a donor.

Have you tried preheating the board?

I ended up buying a better hot air station that could take off bigger chips with big ground planes. Good advice though. Might be helpful for those struggling like I was in this video.

Atten ST-862D. I did a short review of it if you want to check it out. I like it a lot so far. It is more expensive though.
