Fix More Waste Less
United States
Приєднався 28 бер 2023
I’m trying to fix broken electronics and keep them out of the landfill but I'm new to the world of electronic repair. Follow along as I learn and in turn I hope I can help you learn something useful too.
An issue facing all electronics is that of scarcity. Companies can only build so many products over their lifecycle and once that production stops, the numbers become limited. The more we can keep from being discarded and thrown away, the more we'll have in the future. The more working consoles that exist, the cheaper they'll be for all.
And that's the real kicker, keeping things cheaper for all. Repairing is usually cheeper than buying new and in the case of retro consoles, repairing is the only option.
So please subscribe and maybe together we can learn what it takes to fix more and waste less.

Atten 862D vs. YiHUA 959D Round 2
Переглядів 277День тому
I've already done a comparison video of the expensive Atten station vs the cheap YiHUA station, but I received a lot of comments about how I was using the YiHUA...less than optimally. So I decided to give it another go and see if the YiHUA could do what I seemed to imply it couldn't do in the last video. Let's just say, my discounting of the YiHUA may have been...premature. Nice
This video was very helpful. I did mess up and pulled the ribbon from the board. Luckily I was able reuse it. I used super glue to stick the little backing ribbon then used some tweezers to push it back in.
test all the fuses, on google there is a map of all the fuses of all the ps2 boards, and finally it could be the dvd drive controller chip.
I got electrocuted with ps2 slim whem touching the power supply when its off what it meamt
Great Video Again
Thanks I really appreciate that!
I find in the beginning of you use a fresh bead of solder or liquid flux with solder, it comes off rather quick. There is also low temp solder for just this very purpose. I've needed these techniques with better stations than both of these repairing military equipment.
I haven't touched my PS 2 in 20 or so years and I think this might be the problem with it.
Yes, the YiHUA can do the job. But, in taking over three times as long to do it, it is subjecting the board and surrounding components to high heat stress for a long time, which could lead to further failures. Most components have specifications for soldering temperature and time at that temperature, and the times are in tens of seconds, not minutes!
Hi here would I order that part from
You can get the ribbon cable from Amazon(affiliate link): amzn.to/492UYe2
I would buy it
Thanks for the tips on using the cheap hot air station! I have that piece O crap and mainly enjoy it for heat shrink.
Thanks a lot man. This was very helpful
One of the major issues with the Yihua 959D is the the intake for the blower fan in the handle is extremely restrictive. On my wand i just cut it all out so there's a huge rectangular hole. Doing that and also calibrating the station really ups the performance of the station.
Those are great tips. Yeah I found the fan on mine to be pretty weak. Even on max air speed it just didn’t feel like it was pushing out a lot of air.
@@FixMoreWasteLess Take a look at the intake, you'll see that a lot of the holes are blocked. I just use a box cutter and a flush cutter to cut them all out and calibrate the station. Once you do that, it will start to remove those mosfets just as quick as the other station.
Wishlist that Atten. It's nice. I have a Yihua but I'm ready to upgrade
I know it's been a while since I posted a video, but I'm ready to get back into it. That being said, if you have anything you'd like me to 'attempt' to fix for nothing more than the cost of shipping (and necessary major parts) please reach out to fixmorewasteless@gmail.com. Let me know what the issue is and I'll let you know if I can help!
If you have issues with this review, or think I've done some things wrong, then you might want to check out a new video I did comparing these two stations and taking into account some of the comments here: ua-cam.com/video/YkuDIfV1hrE/v-deo.html You might be right...in some cases.
That yollange staining looks like classic nicotine tar stains.
Hi, i did follow your steps and yes the PS1 fuse was damaged but when i replaced it it blow up again ! Any idea or solution ?! Thanks in advance
Maybe something in that circuit’s shorted to ground and that’s why it keeps blowing. Multimeter probe would let you know there’s a short on the rail but it’ll be hard to find the culprit without a way of injecting voltage.
Yea if you had the air all the way up than yea its not gonna get as hot as it should.. use smaller tip and low air, high temp..
Thanks for this review!
Thank you for warning us how delicate the ribbon cable is, without any clear directions on how you just popped it out easily. Great guide!
I do not feel comfortable taking mine apart unfortunately.
You're not using at least one Rosmann of flux.
I hope,I can. Thanks again.
I have the Yihua station, and it does do the temperature they say it does. It just needs a bit of modding and calibration. I have one, and after calibrating it to hit the set temperature at about 20-30mm away from what i'm reworking. Also, i had mod the handle, the intake vent for the blower fan more than half of it is blocked because of the crappy molding procedure so i just removed it all together so that the blower has no restrictions. Now i don't even have to turn up the air past 6 and i can remove mosfets off of motherboards with relative ease, I can't even turn up temperature to make because it's just way too hot.
And please, don't let my UA-cam name turn you away, it was to keep people from bothering me on my channel. Please help me. Thank you.
Yo, hi, I saw yr channel, you look like a nice guy, and y are right abt ppl here on YT they are awful.
How do I get in touch with you to fix a PS2 slim for me? I need honest help please.
Hi. Sorry but I just saw this, you can email me at fixmorewasteless@gmail.com and I’ll try and help you out.
Ps2 with black display no thing no sound or pic?????
Thanks for an honest review.
Salut mon PS2 slim lire pas les jeux avec port USB.data+, DATA- marche pas.alimentation 5v marche bien.
Mine had the same problem, shame I was ~13 at the time, I tried repairing it, broke the whole button after 10 mins 😂
Roach rust
My ps2 got drowned in a flood would it still work
Thanks man!
My fat console had a broken piece inside the tray. Once removed it worked, stuck no more!
Use vinegar for remove the corrosion
Hi my ps2 does have sound but no display i tried the down up down3x then x still nothing happened tried also another tv but nothing happened
What kind of replacement screen is it? TN or IPS? I'm curious about upgrading my 3ds to replace the bottom screen with an IPS display.
I bought a Yaxun YX-891, before I had a Quick 2008, this yaxun is much better than Quick.
can hardly hear what you are saying - fix your volume, preview it before you post.
For me, the gears that lift up the laser is lifting it too soon and colliding with the tray
I found this video because im looking for good recommendations for a hot air. I have Yihua 2 in 1 soldering station with fan hot air just like your yihua hot air station. It uses the same exact hot air. I didn't had any problems with it even on thicker boards like laptop and consoles like PS4. It takes like 3-4 minutes to remove the HDMI port with 400 celcius and 80% fan speed. It also takes like more than a minute to take off a mosfet from a graphics card. I wanna upgrade to make my job faster and more pleasant (also I dont like using high temp like 400-410 for electronics it's not good for the component nor the hot air heating element) besides compressor hot airs can blow much more air compared to fan ones and also they are quiter. The problem I've noticed is that you are not using any flux. When desoldering or soldering a component ALWAYS USE flux. It makes the solder melt so much easier and it increases surface tention meaning the solder will flow by itself into the pad without it trying to stick to the soldering iron and creating this ugly spike. This is why you had the problem to begin with. You don't need max temp and max air you need to add flux. Also while choosing flux choose one that doesn't smell. I have this one chineese flux that irritated my lungs and throat and my chest hurt and i've also had runny nose with blood for a week. So get quality flux and smoke extractor to pull the smoke so you don't inhale it. Also I bet that your Atten ST-862D with flux could desolder that mosfet in 20 seconds. Take care improve and learn I believe in you!!
I had a ps2 5 years ago stop putting out video. I just pulled it out the closet a week ago and it works again. LONG but easy fix, lol
Thanks for trying man. I got one with clean inside but wont turn on. I see white residue on the back of the board could be liquid. But dont have knowledge to find out what is going on. Power supply is working. When plugged in Fan should move a tiny bit which is not hapenning.
for anyone who is still struggling after doing the stuff in this video, I was able to get my shoulder button working by taking it apart and dipping the whole button in isopropyl alcohol for ten minutes. afterwards, I blew on it while mashing the button repeatedly. I did it twice for good measure, and it worked! Did a celebratory race in Mario kart and we are big chilling
