  • How should we really eat? How frequently should we eat and in what quantity? This is honestly a topic that I am no expert with and so I decided to invite back a past guest who is the real expert in Ayurveda, Nidhi Pandya.
Join us as we explore the role of food in our lives, the various effects different foods bring to us, and some practical tips for modern-day yoga practitioners who want to live a more holistic lifestyle.

Brilliant ep. I've sometimes found Ayurveda tricky to get my head around but Nidhi made it very simple and easy to understand. Thanks and keep up the great work :)

Jai Om Vishnupad! Please accept my respectful obeisances. I've been practicing yoga for a great number of years now. Studied Ayurveda since the mid nineties. Mataji Nidhi is so on to it. However, I thought certain aspects pertaining to meat eating were overlooked. From a karmic perspective nesting is both detrimental to obviously the animal and eater. Actually from the Vedic scriptural point of view 5 people are responsible for the unnecessary violence committed towards the animal. The one who orders it, the murderer, the seller, the buyer and finally the eater. Ayurveda was initially propounded by great Avatar Dhanvatari many many thousands of years ago. Traditionally the teachings of the Vedic texts were past down through aura reception because humans were way more advanced in the days of yore with a greater capacity to remember information. Not anymore. Hence one of the reasons the Vedic literatures were originally written down by the great safe Sri Vyasadeva, roughly 5000 yrs ago. So Sri Dhanvatari and Sri Vyasadeva both explain the detrimental effect not only to the body and psyche(which Mother Nidhi pointed out i.e the poor animals state of consciousness) but also karmic implications of becoming an animal to be slaughtered in the next life. Yes reincarnation. So much information is available to support it now that Im not going to go into the details of here. So as mentioned above those 5 co-offenders are liable to be punished by the laws of nature for that violent act. Just like in the laws of one's own country some other people may be prosecuted for one persons actual crime of murder. From the Vedic point of view every living being, human, animal, aquatics, birds, insects , trees and even plants etc are all lawful citizens of the state, country and world etc. Physiologically we humans are herbivores by nature. And the laws of nature dictates that one living entity is food for another. So even though we're meant to eat fruits, vegetables, grains and milk products like cheese, butter, ghee etc the Vedas prescribe it in conjunction with yajna or sacrifice-meaning proper preparation and prayers of purification. This ultimately benefits the both parties by elevating the consciousness of all involved not degrade them. So Vedas are so cool and all inclusive that if one is persistent in eating meat that a yajna is prescribed before the goddess Kali where a goat is offered on the dark moon Phase of the month. So only once in a month. No other animal just the goat. In essence the prayers offered are telling the goat before Mother Kali that " Just as I am taking you're flesh for sustinance , so shall you take my flesh as a goat in my future life. Mamsa mimamsa -my life in the next" So any intelligent man after saying these prayers a few time should come to the conclusion" Why should I take birth as a goat in my next life? What a miserable existence!" This is intelligence. Also the goat is elevated to a human form in its next life. Which would normally take thousands of births. This is actually real evolution. Not false monkey evolution by Darwin's theory. But spiritual evolution of the soul transmigrating from one species of life to another until the human platform is reach and we gain the intelligence needed to understand the Vedas, prakrti-the material energy, Kala-the time factor, jiva-the soul, parabrahman-the supreme soul, karma etc. Thankyou for your time.
