      I can't even fit my 6'5 ass and my 2 shepards on my boat without capsizing in even pretty mellow water. BIG guys got hosed in the boat game. Yeah. Technically I'm in the weight limits of the boats even being lean as hell but it's always at the very top end of the weight limits. Unstable boats always unless I spend WAAAY more than I can afford🤣 can't beleive he literally stacked em up on there

    Nice halibut , your excited laughter is what's it all about. Halibut is my favorite fish to catch , and top 5 to eat. I live in So Cal as well, and do a lot of spearfishing off shore for big spotfin coaker and corbina. If i'm lucky i'll bag a halibut once in awhile using my Hawaiian sling. The visibility where i fish at is usally poor, and challenging, so you always have to be ready when the school swim through those clear pockets. Great video, i like how organized you are when fishing, you make it look easier than it is.

    Being on the East coast it's mind boggling how big these fish are from just a Kayak near the beach. We have Summer Flounder(Fluke) which look exactly the same but the eye placement is opposite side. You could spend your entire life and might catch 1 30" fish. 38" would be a world record territory. People in NJ will literally drive hours north to Cape Cod then take a boats out 40 miles to Nantucket Shoals in order to have a shot at a 30" fish. Another interesting thing I noticed is that the amount of people recreational saltwater fishing seems really tiny on the West coast and I looked it up and the numbers are pretty staggering how different it is between the coasts. For 2018 67% of recreation boat trips are from the East coast, 29% are from the Gulf coast and 3% West coast(Alaska not included in that).

    • @stevenseguro

    • @83442handle
      @83442handle 2 роки тому +3

      @@stevenseguro The only thing I can think of is that there is a lower population overall all with a lot less harbors and it never got as popular with locals. The entire east coast and gulf is basically barrier islands and harbors whereas in the west there is a lot of the land mountain range going straight into the ocean for a good portion of the coast.

    • @stevenseguro
      @stevenseguro 2 роки тому +1

      @@83442handle Actually, Its an economic thing...Access is a really big deal.. Fishing on the west coast in subliminally discouraged.
      All these beaches cost $20 for parking, The tickets ar $175 and up. Those cottages in the background are traded for 4 million dollars plus.
      The working rich constantly experience a general unease. They can't fish.
      Twenty year ago it was a little different.
      Fishing is a lower middle class activity at its core.
      West coast fisherman are generally extreme standouts

      The tube is a 2 foot section of ABS pipe that I just drilled all of the holes in for water to flow through and the ends are simple drain caps. You can get all of it at home depot or any place like that for less then $20. I’ve used it for like 6 years now too. But make sure you use ABS and not PVC for the pipe. The ABS sits horizontally in the water which keeps the baits alive. PVC will sit vertically in the water and the baits will die quickly.

      You can fish multiple rods for halibut in most all of California. It’s just San Francisco Bay and I think a couple other bays around there that you can only use one rod.

      The Pacific Ocean. If you’re hoping I tell you exactly where I’m at, you’re asking the wrong guy. There’s plenty of places that hold these fish. You don’t need to fish next to me to find them.

    I heard smelt was "halibut candy" but you are the first I've heard to seem to not want smelt when targeting halibut, was I duped? 😅 Just like when another fisherman told wrote to go 2-3 days after stocking day because the fish take awhile to adjust to the water 😂

    • @Mr.Markus.
      @Mr.Markus.  2 роки тому +1

      Different fish in different areas have different preferences. I'm sure there's probably places where jack smelt is the best bait. Where I fish I prefer mackerel or sardines especially. They are much livelier baits which I think attracts the fish in and they also live longer once I've hooked them and put them down as bait. So that's why I like them more. And I too have heard that one about waiting for the stocked fish to adjust to the water. And then I've heard stories about guys who absolutely slayed them the same day they were stocked. Its fishing. Everyone is right and wrong all at the same time. Hahaha.
