Why don't more people just openly admit/feel allowed to admit that they're just not good at freestyling? It's really impressive when people can do it, but being able to do it shouldn't automatically be a measure of someone's talent at rapping. I don't know if this is specific to hip hop/rap as a genre? Because, like, nobody generally expects guitarists to just compose a great acoustic or rock song/solo off the dome. Music can take time and thought, and that's normal.
Or maybe I'm just a salty former-autistic-theater-kid who was really bad at improv and preferred to work with a script, and now I'm really sympathetic to other people who also can't improvise their shit. Idk.

most freestyles are already written/belong to songs not released yet from that artist. it's pretty easy to tell which one is which. a lot of the bad freestyles are because they are actually freestyling and rapping about things in the room/things going on in the current moment or alot of incoherent thoughts because it's coming straight off the top.

In hip hop when you can freestyle off the dome and it sounds good and etc... It is impressive and kind of does elevate you from the rest , just a bit because it is a talent jumbling words to match , using metaphors, rhyming etc so I dunno
It is ode to the culture...Rap came from a bunch kids in NY freestylin on the beat. The whole essence of the MC is to keep the crowd hype on a beat. So these freestlyes is a way for us to give ode, reverence to the past OGs in the game. And keep the history of rap alive...Its beyond talent, it is tradition, history and culture

Coi Leray makes me so sad because she wasn't always like this. Up until a couple of months ago she used a much deeper voice for rapping and had this really cool tomboy type of vibe. She wasn't great but I always respected her for not relying on her sexuality when performing (theres nothing wrong with that but its nice to have some variation). Like her song Huddy was lowkey a bop and the music video is like the complete opposite vibe of her performances now. The more interviews of her I see the more I realize that shes just kind of a cocky asshole but it does make me sad to see a more tomboyish female artist seemingly be pressured by her label to switch over to a baby voice and start sexualizing herself like this.

The way the dude came for him so hard in the first bar, shooting for the lowest shot he could ever take. Eli just stands there like "aight". Doesn't give a shit.
When his verse comes, his first bar is already better than dudes, then he fucks up, accidentally creates one of the most viral clips of all time, gets BACK ON TRACK like nothing happened and still murders the dude like it aint nothing.

I really don't mess w/ Coi Lerays music like that but like to learn about Artist. 5:50 I know Nick mentioned that the lyrics about her struggling and broke were probably fabricated because her dad is a music producer. However, Benzino wasn't really in her life growing up after like 8 or 9 (grew up with mom & brothers in lower income areas of New Jersey) and never really supported her. She also said he was lowkey broke but flaunted cars and chains in public which aligns w/ his bankruptcy and financial issues around 2005 and beyond

Yeah I didn't like that part. My dad had a half mil house but also avoided tax like a champ so never had to pay child support to my mother. It sucked growing up on government benefits and not having what I needed. Whether that was proper nutrition or school supplies.

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t write out any of his lyrics physically (or at least he used to not do that) but I’m pretty sure most of the time he still works them out in his head beforehand which is still a little better put together than complete improv…but that makes the freestyle in this video even harder to watch because you know he has a bunch of bars memorized but he didn’t or couldn’t recall them in the moment

Nobody understands what freestyle is. Freestyle just means it doesn't follow traditional schemes. Different rhyming schemes depend on the way the rhymes are chronologically. It doesn't mean that you just make something up on the spot. Lol

im not great at off the top freestyling so I just simply dont do it in public settings
most of the time if you just go 'hey is it cool if i just write one real quick' people are cool with that and at least in my experience tend to be just as impressed with being able to write a verse on the fly
i mean theres times when being off the top is a requirement but most of the time its more casual than that
and most freestyles you hear on albums or the radio were written at least partially
