***** I didn't say he did; I said there were people who might say that. There are some who think that Doug owes his entire career to James Rolfe. I don't agree with that, I was just making a joke.
Doug is a great interviewer. Asks the question, listen to the one being interviewed, dosen't intrrupt in the middle of sentece, only leaves a comment at the end if necessary
Sorry, no, one - only one of them started a trend that is now a major money maker for many other personalities (ignoring this apparently adpocalypse) on UA-cam and elsewhere online. Mr Plinkett/RLM and AVGN paved the way for many others that came afterwards.
I've met James in person and he really is super nice and laid back. I could tell that he was tired and just wanted to go back to his hotel room but he stayed and took a picture with me with the utmost kindness. James also looks like a total dad now, you can tell he's a family man. That's so sweet.
His daughter is going to reach her preteen years, realize that her dad is the AVGN, and then be like, "Everything makes sense now. Daddy was always so nice to me but when he went in the room alone he said a lot of bad words."
James is an incredible inspiration. If you haven’t, watch his movie “Cinemassacre 200”. It is a wonderful story of James’s adventures in filmmaking since his early childhood and it is absolutely mind blowing to witness all the effort he put in creating films and discovering how people did things like that. The movie is one of my personal favorites. Also, my love of retro gaming was sparked by the Nerd. I had a lot of fun playing old Nintendo games with my brother and girlfriend. I even discovered my favorite game of all time, Super Metroid! I was a bit late to the party, but I still got to enjoy the wonders of playing Castlevania under a cover in candlelight. Thanks to James
The next AVGN movie should be called 12 angry critics. The whole thing would take place in one room, and it would be about 12 of the most famous internet critics discussing if how bad a video game is.
More like the forgotten ancestors... Ask people who these two are, and nobody has a clue. And then, crap like Pewdiepie and Auronplay are super-popular, despite their vastly inferior talent. Humanity overall has such bad taste...
+excaliber2010 +barangurius well like any great classic movies, those kids will soon realize that they exist, watch it and acknowledge their awesomeness. Let's hope fucking so
I’m glad there both are friends in real life, I met James Rolfe back in May of 2018 he’s a very nice guy in person, I would like to meet Doug Walker someday
+jamesnintendonerd What about a different AVGN movie that is a parody of The Shining? It's about the Nerd's descent into madness over having to play shitty games. Call it The Shitting.
+OnekiKai Yeah that could work if it was just like an episode-sized thing about that. But really he's doing that with Board James. He kinda messed up the twist ending in that, though... It was really sudden and jarring. Still, take a look if you haven't seen it you might think different.
I love the rivalry between these characters. I love it how critic always yells "NERD!!" in comtempt. There shoudle be a scene where Critic yells "NERD!!" and throws the Nerd a lightsaber to take out a enemy..... - I love how the characters kinda hate each other but are tue friends.
Deez guys... Lemme tell ya somethin bout deez guys... they're great. But seriously though, these guys among the top dogs on the internet in terms of creativity and quality of content. It is so damn cool to see James on this show, and I like how they changed it up for a minute when Doug was talking to James about movie ideas as if the interview had been breifly switched around. Just awesome.
"I don't think imagination should be limited by a dollar symbol. I think even if you have ten bucks, go out and make a movie, do whatever it is. It might just have to be a flip book at that point or whatever, animate it with stick figures-but whatever you have available at your resources, you should be able to just use it and use it creatively, max out what you can do with that and not limit your imagination." -James Rolfe
I like both about equally. I'm kind of partial to AVGN because I like his spazouts and jackass humor, but with Doug Walker his wit really gets me. He reminds me a lot of my cousin I grew up with in a lot of ways. Plus he has some moments where I would literally be laughing about the segment hours after I've seen it just by thinking about it. Gets kind of awkward at work when I'm thinking of a NC moment and I chuckle uncontrollably.
It is funny to see that James always kinda keeps that crooked smile and squints his eyes a lot whenever he speaks, but when he is the AVGN, his face has countless expressions and he moves every single face muscle LOL
James seems like such a cool down to earth guy. He's so talented. I'd love to just hang out with him and have a Rolling Rock and play some old school games. That would be amazing.
Kung Fury was kinda disappointing to me, it's kinda just a mashup of bad jokes and references. I see why some people like it, but I was hoping for something that took itself a LITTLE more seriously (I know it's a comedic parody, but I was hoping it wouldn't be so retarded I guess lol). Turbo Kid was a lot more enjoyable to me, because it's not just a parody of 80's movies, it also has a good story.
+Where Puppers Go to Die Yes, finally someone says the truth. I hated kung fury honestly, for every single one of those reasons, and i hear nothing but praise towards it
Practical effects will always be more convincing and satisfying to watch than CGI. For instance, movies like The Thing and Bladerunner and Mad Max Fury Road have practical effects and they look amazing. CGI is fine if it's used sparingly but too much of it makes a movie look like a video game cutscene like in the Star Wars prequels and more recent movies like Jupiter Ascending,
+Serpico's Beard I can understand using CGI for certain things where practical effects can't be used, but when it's just tossed around like cheap hookers, (i.e. almost any Michael Bay movie) it's just unpleasant to look at.
There are terrible CGI effects just as there are terrible practical effects too. Likewise, there are great CGI effects just as there are great practical effects. It has nothing to do with the medium being used, it is the artist that is using them and the money being spent.
Man, this really puts a better perspective (or shines a better light) on why there's been such a lack of AVGN videos. Don't get me wrong, I was following the online updates and understanding he became a father and had been dealing with real life and stuff. But I guess I just didn't imagine how much of a toll it took on him to do the movie, and now it's just winding down while enjoying the most precious moments of a child's life. But yeah, I didn't realize his thoughts on future AVGN videos as it was, but I now understand a lot better. I guess I've just been getting extremely tired of the "James & Mike Monday" videos, and all the other in between videos that feature other people, like the 3-player Contra videos that Doug, James and Mike did, the racing NES video games videos James, Mike and Pat Contri (The NES Punk) did, etc... I REALLY enjoy seeing guests in their video gaming videos, that way it's not JUST the same boring shit with two guys co-opping a video game they either remember from their youth, or get a lot of requests about or what ever. But I think I'm just getting burned out on seeing Mike and even the other guy, Ryan all the time, more often than I even see James in videos anymore. They're cool guys, but yeah.
+BigHead2615 What I don't get though is that he says he doesn't have time to make AVGN videos and stuff but he has time to make 31 videos every October for Monster Madness which is something most of his fans don't really care about. He should have kept making videos so he was still making good money and could save her up money. Jame's channel is burning out, it isn't anywhere near as popular as it used to be. It eventually will dry up all together and the money will stop coming in. I imagine when that happens he will start uploading tons of videos to try and make money but by that point it will be too late. The few remaining fans will end up leaving. He does not release enough new content. If it wasn't for Mike Matei the channel would already be dead. James and Mike Mondays is ok, but it is really lame when they take a 20 minute video and split it into two parts so it takes two weeks to see the whole video. That is so lazy.
+Classic80sStuff That's because he doesn't have as many ideas for the AVGN as for Monster Madness. Also, he has to consider his Cinemassacre fanbase more than his UA-cam fanbase as Let's plays and Livestreams come more into popularity.
Guys, Cinnemassacre is still getting 100,000-300,000 views per video (and they put out a few vids every week)...this channel isn't 'dying down' at all. And TBH, i actually prefer James/Mike Mondays and all the movie reviews (including Monster Madness) and Board James over the AVGN episodes.
This video was the moment where I used to think James Rolfe and Angry Video Game Nerd are 2 different person. But that was 5 years ago when I was 11 now I am 16. Now I am more aware and know that he is acting. But I really have to say that he is an amazing actor. Better than a big Hollywood star.
James Rolfe... Respect! My father worked in the Norwegian opera. According to him, "special effects" really made an impression on the audience. I can't compare beyond that (he worked there in the 70's). However, the AVGN movie was awesome!
This video needs to be seen more, especially by (indie)film makers and everyone who want to get into film making! These are great insights of how that world works especially if you have a lot of creative ideas! Great interview overall! I love the part where James turned it around a little so we got to know a little bit more about Doug behind the Nostaliga Critic aswel :D
It's interesting really. My first introduction to AVGN was just by pure interest. I watched alot of his monster madness and discussions about other movies, and I kept seeing "AVGN" video thumbnails, and I thought; "Ah what the heck, I'll give this a try". Best decision I made.
Same, I've made independent films and he's the reason why I keep going. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Rolfe and talking to him for a long while, such an amazing memory to keep. :)
I actually want James to at least review a foreign horror film for Monster Madness... specifically Asian horror films like Shutter, Ringu, Ju-On, Apartment 1303, The Eye, The original One Missed Call, etc. However, maybe have the Nostalgia Critic review those insane/crazy Japanese films like Suicide Club, The Machine Girl, Robogeshia, Tokyo Gore Police, etc.
A great interview - James, as usual, delivers MUCH of inspiration and so does Doug. As for the first movie being a cinematic bucket list - it is really true, I'm filming my first feature film since 2011 and now, as I have a lot more of ideas I see the screenplay and just wonder why I made it so freaking complicated. But on the other hand - it should be done that way - next projects will probably seem much simpler to do...
I wish the AVGN movie had been closer to Clerks than a cheap B movie. It would be interesting to see him write a dialogue-heavy piece. He's a smart man. And he and Mike are really funny together. My ideal AVGN movie would've been more hate-speech on video games, perhaps with some philosophical speak on the idea of bad games that resolves in the end with crazy visual effects heavy gags. Like a good AVGN episode!
My home city of Sunderland is a large metropolitan area, the suburb areas are compromised of old villages and newer housing estates. One of the old villages is now a shopping hub with several stores and banks. One store sells video games. I went inside to see what was inside. It was like Jame Rolfe's version of heaven. I saw an 2600 and several games for sale, NES, Xbox original, Megadrive (Genesis), Master System. I think James would like that store.
Been a fan for years, simply because a lot of people are afraid to take chances like that. You pulled it off James and I can at least tell you you've inspired at least a few people. You as well Doug.
"Oh my God, I created a human being... and now it talks to me!"
-James Rolfe, 2015.
+KrossoverGod This looks like someone from Tumblr would post.
+KrossoverGod There are some who would argue that that was also his reaction to being interviewed by the Nostalgia Critic.

That's almost exactly what Joe Rogan says about having kids.
+The 5th Jim Jenkins created "Doug", not James. :P
James Rolfe and Doug Walker don't hate each other, Nostalgia Critic and AVGN hate each other.

James talking about his daughter is so adorable. Really warms your heart.
James looks tired. Rest, man, rest. You deserve it. You are an awesome human being, as Doug as well.
You guys keep strong!

I was hoping he'd drop a hint at this year's theme.
Yeah, me too.

+Huy Bii Sounds like Board James is the Prequel to AVGN! O.o

Doug is very sophisticated in the way he explains himself, very calm.

The next AVGN Movie should be Sword Quest
KobiCool I think the next one should have Doug as an actual character with dialogue and NOT a 3 second cameo
it may have been only 3 seconds... but he changed cinema with it

However, maybe have the Nostalgia Critic review those insane/crazy Japanese films like Suicide Club, The Machine Girl, Robogeshia, Tokyo Gore Police, etc.
+Loud Jestr He has reviewed a few, I remember Coffin Joe and some Korean monster movies.
I could listen to these 2 talk for hours
Do you and James actually hate each other?
They dont
Jesus wafflem you missed the entire fucking point entirely... YOU MISSED THE POINT OF A TWO YEAR OLD JOKE!!!!
Jontron no wonder you missed 8 months
silly joke, so weak
It's Adam Eget level
Wow...Great interview man. Doug and James meet face-to-face. lol
Legend
They dont hate each other, its their alter ego that hates each other
My home city of Sunderland is a large metropolitan area, the suburb areas are compromised of old villages and newer housing estates.
Nice to see that Dougs fans don't treat James like crap.
5:55. Again, there was internet. You just weren't in on the loop.
The next Shut up and talk should be Jon Jafari or Joe Vargas
Been a fan for years, simply because a lot of people are afraid to take chances like that. You pulled it off James and I can at least tell you you've inspired at least a few people. You as well Doug.
Oh hey, this took shorter to release than the Dante Basco episode! Congrats!
He wanted to jump through a window but didn't do it in the movie. But he did in the mega man episode
