The simple idea of putting likes with likes is so life changing... when I get into a project I am soooo overwhelmed... doing this easily broke up my work.. thanks for the reminder 😷😁

A thought I had while watching this for during covid19 - since we can’t really have a friend come help us, what if we did a video call with a friend who was organizing a space in their house, while we are organizing a space in our house. DB messenger video calls would be perfect.
The biggest benefit of doing it with someone rather than alone, for me, is the social aspect of doing it together- whether my husband and I are working on a project together, or a friend (or my kids when they we’re home. I’m a recent empty nester) a video call while we are both engaged in a similar project would give that socialization, and we (you) could bounce thoughts off each other as if you were together in the same room - and you can take your breaks “together”. Physically distancing, socially connecting

Any time I try to estimate the time frame for a project, I underestimate it by a mile! I finally learned to guesstimate, then add more time on top of that. The main reasons I need extra time is because of my indecision, perfectionism and tendency to get easily sidetracked LOL. Thanks for your helpful tips!

    • @kathleenstetler609

I agree. Although I sometimes have found this effort to backfire. There have been many projects I won't even entertain as possible because I estimate them to require SO much time.
Perhaps our helpful advisor here could create a post to address?

I've been binge-watching your videos tonight. This is the one that hit it for me. Make the boxes, for donate, trash, keep, but like things w/ like things. OMG, this light bulb went off for me and I got it. I've just recently moved my craft room from one room to 2 rooms. My husband "surprised" me when I went running an errand, got home and he had it all moved...things were just jumbled together, no clue where items are. I've after about 2 months got one room done. The other room it makes it look like the closet that if you open the door on a closet it is all going to come falling out at you. I've even brought some of it into this room and gone through it. Purged, but still not making a dent. Your tip in this video has given me the tip I needed to get the other room done. Thank you so much for this!! I know it will not take me as long to get it organized, but more importantly, the "fear" of where to start is gone. Start at the door and put it in the bin it belongs in and move on to the next part of the room. One step at a time and I'm excited. I am going to leave you with a HUGE THANK YOU, and get my bins labeled tonight and tomorrow, the timer will be set for 1 hour and pictures of the disaster will start, and then get going w/ first thing I come to. If I can keep going I will, I am overwhelmed every time I open the door, no more, a perfect plan. Good night and THANK YOU!!

Putting like things together is my most favorite thing to do! It helps so much to give you a clearer picture of what you have and easier to find when you need it. When I helped my Mother clean out her house the one thing that frustrated me most was her spending so much time trying to get things to people cause she thought they would want it. I think it much be an older person thing. The family joke for years has been that my Mother will give me things rather that throw them out but I do and she knows it.

Another wonderful, spot-on video Norrine! Though all awesome, the three things I find the most important for myself is the timer tough for a different reason. To put like things together, and be willing to change when you find things are no longer working well for you and/or your family.
I have absolutely no concept of time, so without a timer, and the fact that I love to organize, I'd lose track of time and forget to eat and sleep.
I always start by grouping like things together. You've seen my sewing/craft room. I used the white bins for that.
I know from a lifetime of experience that nothing, no matter how well thought out, works forever.

VERY GOOD words of wisdom...NEVER DREAMED it would take me 2 weeks to really purge, clean and organize my garage...but, due to how we also use this area for several different reasons...it has taken MUCH WORK to get it where I feel the task is accomplished....that being said...I did take time to make several reference notebooks in my crafting area....and, I'm glad I did...these notebooks have already proved useful🙂.
The funny thing is: I had already organized this area of our home at least twice...carrying out at least 10 bags of items to a donation center that I found open(6 of the 10...4 were done earlier).
I am glad for your most recent video...getting ready to tackle...THE ATTIC🤪...this area is also organized...but maybe, it could use some tweaking...DEFINITELY some decluttering.😀

Norrine these are very helpful hints. I'm busy packing up my mother-in-law's mobile winter home which is being sold. We're packing up our own stuff so we can move up to NY to help her. When I went earlier today I did remember my water which helped me a lot and my honey reminded me we can only work fir so long then we have to stop. We're both older with health issues, so we can't do what we did in our 30's. When I came home I was exhausted, later when I watch this I realized you both have been right. Thanks again 😊👍

Most of us don't have extra desks handy... so I suggest setting up a box where the repeatedly needed items are handy and can be carried to a table, desk, counter - outuside!!! Use toilet paper rolls upright in a shoe box to create spaces for pencils, crayons, safety scissors.... and the rest of the space can be for their papers or other small supplies. Let the kids get involved by decorating it, so they have ownership of this tool and they'll be more excited to use it. I'll see if I can come up with any other ideas.

I just had an idea that might, maybe go along with organizing/decorating. Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but: If I want to create a specific style, say per room (victorian, French country, Art Nuevo, etc.), where would be the best place to start?

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 роки тому +1

PINTEREST! Then you can match the aesthetic to the purpose of the room... based on what you already have! If you find you already have Victorian items in your bedroom.... then you can collect any other pieces from the rest of the house and focus them into one room. Does that help??

Can you do a video on what to do with
all those wires and cables that have amassed over the years. I have boxes of them! I'm not even sure what they belong to. Old video games? Electronics? I could fill a shoe box with remotes! My kids were into video games and all this stuff is left behind.
