Hi Mr. Ramsey. I feel like I am in the worst situation. I don't have this any debt, but I am 45 Years old, with 29k in savings, making 56k a year, but living in NYC where I can't find an apartment to live by myself, and I desperately want to. Right now, I live with my mother, who is a horrible hoarder, and overall a terrible person. I am dying emotionally, mentally, and spiritually living with her.
D Cabral if you are single you can’t try share accomodation for a while?
Stopped watching dave, 15 second commercials I can live without
The homeless guy on their corner is $1 Million Dollars richer than they are.
Debt has nothing to do with net worth... a lot of people who work in real estate have a lot of debt but they pay each month and make cash flow on that debt. It’s called leveraging. People make debt seem bad but it’s not as long as you reach the monthly minimum and if you’re paying your mortgages.
@@ItzCharlemagne did you even watch the video? 800k in non-mortgage debt. insane.
nextari Ik but I was making a point about leveraging debt I’m not disagreeing with you.

Yuan Gan, I don't really know what "most" people do, but it's not exactly a random sampling of people who call into a financial advice talk show for advice. "Hey Dave, I have no debt and $2 mil and I'm trying to decide whether I can buy a sandwich."

Wow. This call is the example of "buy whatever I want with credit and debt and worry about it later". 1 million by 30ish? Crazy.
I did that with $10k in my early 20's and thought the world was ending. Starting at $1mil in high interest debt at 30 is pathetic though; hard to feel any sympathy at all.

Just $1m?
You can't retire on $1M
The idea of investing a significant sum of money may be both thrilling and intimidating. There is potential for considerable wealth increase with the correct strategy. How can one take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings to about $1M over time?
Most Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.

No debt, word up! Having a job is not anyone's life's goal, its your government's. Our role is to invent, to innovate new technologies so we all don't have to work so much. However, we find ourselves today ignoring invented technologies over ridiculous ancient rituals.
Living below your means is all that matters. A home is great for building equity but along with it comes maintenance and property taxes. You factor those in, especially if you're a younger person, owning a home makes 0 sense until you can afford it outright. Keep doing you dude, I'm in the same boat only 30k in student loans left, if I play my cards right and make $600 towards it each month, I'll be clean by the time I'm 30. Thinking about moving into a cheaper apartment next so I can allocate more money towards getting out of student loan debt. No credit card, bank is a block away. Life is good.
Only debt I have is my work truck. That gets paid by my business. I live very simple. This is my best year financially. I stopped spending money on unnecessary things.

That's why people should learn everything about a service they need themselves as much as possible. In every profession you have people setting you up for failure. I would even go as far to when you need to go to the doctor make sure you know how the body works we are told that doctors know everything. My passion is health and optimization so I didn't mind learning but there have been a few times where I had to tell the doctor that so and so was wrong and or I needed a different test. If I didn't knew better I probably would've gone back and forth between different doctors to try and find an issue wich means perhaps hundreds of dollars thrown away.

I was thinking the same, but if you think that it's their income on 5 years, it doesn't seem that much anymore, but they do have to cut any expenses they can and off course, change they lifestyle on the long run.
I dated a girl like this. She went into debt to attend law school at Georgetown University. And she had an expectation that she would eventually get a high-paying job as a lawyer. She assumed that her future high-paying job would be able to erase all of her student loans and her mounting credit card debt. She took the California bar exam 2-3 times and could never pass. So she never became a lawyer. She worked as a low-paying temp and secretary. And her credit card debt grew. She just compartmentalized it. She didn't think about it, because to confront reality would be too stressful. It's like obesity. When you're obese, you never want to climb onto the scale to see how much you really weigh. And when you're deep in debt, you never want to look at a bank or credit card statement. She never acknowledged how bad her situation was and that she would probably never get the high-paying career she wanted. Over the years she built up an identity as a high-powered, successful career woman. But her financial picture didn't match her identity. Cognitive dissonance.
Big Ding depressing story

@@jgyrwa I don't like that I like this comment, but it speaks to me, because I've been living through this exact nightmare. LPT: Don't let your spouse or significant other torpedo your credit score. Sometimes, seemingly normal people never learned financial responsibility and feel a weird compulsion to buy way more things than they can afford. Fine when it's just you ruining your own finances, but add a SO, and a kid or two, and it becomes a real disaster, and even worse divorce. IDK why people have to just buy shit they can't afford on purpose. Insane.
I agree with your comment in regards to how the plan Mr. Ramsey laid out in this video will most likely not be followed by this woman and her husband. But as far as I know, unless it's been changed recently, you cannot default on government-funded student loans. So their largest obstacle, the $335,000, which is an insane number for a couple who ended up with government jobs, is unable to be defaulted on.
The student loans are one thing, but in my opinion, what really proves your comment right is the six-figure credit card debt because that shows a total lack of self-control. What could they have been spending that money on?

These are very valuable info for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $109k now to put in the market.
Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
true, A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for license advisors and came across someone of due diligence, helped a lot to grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from 275k to approx. 850k so far.
Mind if I ask you to recommend how to reach this particular coach you using their service? Seems you've figured it all out unlike the rest of us.
Cant reveal much info, KATHRYN ALETHE HALL is the shrewd advisor responsible for my portfolio success, it's only right you look her up and confirm yourself.
I just checked her out and I have sent her an email. I hope she gets back to me soon.
$136,000 just on credit cards? Oh.....My......God.
A 25% effective tax rate on annual gross income is effectively equivalent to paying a 33% interest rate (APR) on annual net income. I have credit cards that charge significantly less interest than that, in fact I have never seen a credit card with a higher APR than 30%, not to mention I get better perks with them than I do from the government. I can also pay the minimum monthly payment each month and still keep my credit utilization low all while keeping my scores high. I can live better off credit cards and pay less in interest and fees to the banks than if I were working for earned income and paying taxes to the government.
To all you savers out there: If you're effectively taxed at 25%, you're paying 33% in interest for every dollar you save throughout a given tax year, plus the annual compounded rate of inflation of 2% to 3%. In other words, you're paying 35% to 36% a year in interest for every dollar you try to save, and that's underestimating it for a lot of people. I'd rather take out a loan or live off my credit cards and credit lines, because it's a lot smarter and I'll pay less interest, fees, to the banks and get better perks for it versus working hard and paying taxes to the government.
And for those of you saving into a 401k to offset paying taxes now on it, all you've done is defer the taxation into the future and if you withdraw early you get penalized with it by a tax, which is effectively the state charging you interest to withdraw savings. This just further proves the desperation and hopelessness involved with being an employee.
They are nuts. Just dumb as a box of rocks. I never ever charge more than I can afford to pay for cash. I use my credit card for the perks, pay it off in full every month.
Rich Gold They should sell the house then file chapter 7 bankruptcy the pay of their student loans
Yeah, I don't know how that happens just on cards.
Yea sounds crazy
And these are the type of people who will decide how to spend public money.
My thought exactly
Yup
That is why they are working for the government. The government does not know how to save and cut spending.
Yeah I studied economics and government vs private spending are two different things one cares about the return x investment the other doesn't care at all. Usually when the government spends more money in projects it ups the Gdp and it makes the government look good.

I mean, she's making 100k a year. That degree is paying for itself but they didn't plan on paying their debt first before living a life of luxury. You could live on 60k comfortably and use the other 40k to put towards student loans for five or six years. Then increase your yearly allowance to 80k a year and continue with paying other debts with 20k and whatever you've earned on top with raises throughout.

@@joshualawson7604 Yes, and it is also denial. Sigmund Freud wrote about "ego defences"; these are the lies we tell ourselves to avoid having to face uncomfortable truths. Ostrich syndrome - bury your head in the sand and carry on!
College doesn't educate you. It only teaches you obedience and how to credential your way into a job or career. It's all just a way that business owners use to make mental short cuts when hiring someone and assuming those who went to college know something more then those that didn't.
We have been following his plan for over 15 years. Never looked back. Thanks Dave.
I used to work a job where most people there were making in the 40-100k range. About half of them were financial disasters and the other half seemed to have no significant debts outside of their mortgage and were saving something for retirement. I've since moved on to a company where people I work with are making in the 150-250k range. About half of them are financial disasters and the other half seem to have no significant debts outside of a mortgage, are saving for retirement, and doing well financially.
You can make 60k a year and be comfortable financially. You can make 220k a year and be a broke idiot.
🎯
I noticed that too …high earners especially educated ones usually have big egos and, they see themselves a upper class & they avoid average suburbs(they go out and buy big houses), they hangout expensive areas(expensive restaurants and other places) , they drive big expensive cars , they send their d u m b kids to expensive schools ….I can go on and on ….@ the end of day, they put themselves in a situation where things become unreliable and unsustainable ….
It's about how much you spend, not how much you make
PREACH!!!!!
The thing is people can make more money, but often times their spending habits don't change. At one time they make $40k/yr and have $50k in car loans. Later on they make $100k and have $100k in car loans. haha. I've known of so many people that make very good money and are one small issue away from cracking.
This is the reality of many Americans. They overspend, live outside their means.
The homeless down the street is richer than them lol.
I have 900$ in richer than them
Ha ha
Fact is they have this massive debt at what could or should be the best and most carefree time in their married lives.
Young, no children or pets (none were mentioned at least), no serious responsibilities outside of work... and absolutely NO money to enjoy life with. They have more debt than your average person will earn in a working lifetime. They basically have to become millionaires to just break even and not be broke.
That is truly tragic. They should be enjoying life with travel and freedom etc., then perhaps having children a bit later on. I don't think any of that will ever happen and it's just an empty bleak existence - this isn't "living".
Sad, but true......

Agreed, though I guess it depends on what kind of debt. If it's all CC debt, that means they have no self control and/or self management capabilities. Deal breaker.
If they're in debt because they chased the American dream and opened a small business and it failed, that's still admirable. Not necessarily a deal breaker.
If it's all student debt, then it depends on the amount and if they got a good paying career out of it.
you'll find out after :D

@Elijah McDaniel exactly...ppl talking trash in these comments but as long as they maintain their employment if they get serious they're just fine
Their annual income is almost a quarter of a million dollars. I wouldn’t say taking out those loans was smart, but they have the means to pay it back thanks to their educations.
They have $230k in household income. That’s about 5X’s the average American household income. Even if it took them 15 years to pay the debt, they still have ~20 years of work before retirement making HUGE money
Kyle Pierce
People are talking trash because evidently they don’t have the common sense to manage their finances wisely that’s why they’re in this kind of predicament so for you to say that they’re going to be fine as long as they maintain their job is kind of stupid. See, they have been making money and I mean good money even before they got married but nonetheless very bad about spending and making life decisions. In other words, they still live beyond their means despite the fact that both incomes could already provide them a very good life without owing credit card debts and or personal loans. It was bad enough that they were both aware of each other’s debts and still not made a battle plan on how they can knock down the numbers faster but instead obviously chose to dug more deeper together. I’m honestly at a loss about the fact that these are degreed people with mba and yet not know an iota of knowledge of general functions of growing their money and protecting their investments.
