This is actually great news for anyone looking for a used low mileage version with all all of these recalls addressed. Basically ~20k discount for an amazing car
I've had an Emira for 8 months. I've had a the safety recall on the a-pillar trim and a software update and no faults. I think this video is pretty unfair. Lotus, a relatively low-volume sports car manufacturer, have built a brand new production line FROM SCRATCH (I've been and seen it) on which to build a brand new, extremely desirable sports car. It's an amazing feat and of course there were bound to be some teething troubles. Demand for the car has been greater than Lotus could have imagined and I had to wait 21 months for mine. Some owners have had issues and those that have are mainly niggles (a lot I heard was down to the early days when BCA were doing the pre-delivery inspections for those cars that were delivered direct to customers). Owners were desperate to get their hands on their cars and maybe some corners were cut with regards to software etc but I find the general tone of this video absolutely ridiculous. The language used and the points raised are completely sensationalist and would have you believe that every car and every owner has had unbelievable number of problems. Rich just comes across as a bitter non-owner who either couldn't wait or had his finance plans messed up (he's even done a video telling you how the values are going to drop through the floor so he has previous form for his negativity). He even admits he's only going by what he's read on line, and as we know, most things posted on forums are due to a minority of people highlighting or trying to resolve issues, whereas the majority of owners won't have had any so won't even be on the forums. The way he goes on you'd think no other manufacturers have any problems, especially with new cars - I've had recalls and issues with cars from major manufacturers that I'd say were more unacceptable due to the number of vehicles they produce. The guy just wants 'clicks' for his channel. I could look into issues with loads of cars and make videos about them that would sound just as bad. Like I said, he must be really bitter because why would he waste of his time to be posting videos about a car he doesn't own and has no experience of? And I'm annoyed that I wasted my time watching and responding to it but thought it needed a response from someone that knows the car. I absolutley love mine and it gets so much positive feedback from everyone that sees it. Enjoy whatever you end up with Rich and heaven forbid if you have any kind of problem with it!
Where have I ever said I don’t like the Emira? Maybe you need to actually watch and listen to the video properly? I’m detailing Only Facts and have always said I really like the car…the issues are in relation to how it has been delivered to the market. However with 74 Emira’s currently being marketed on AT alone with many low mileage under 70k now…why would you possibly spend 85k+ on a new one?!!
@@RichReviews_ where did I say you said you didn't like the Emira? I don't need to watch your video but I did watch it. If you actually spoke to some owners you may find that their experience has been completely different to what you make out that everyone is going through. Also, I don't actually care how many are on AT and if you can pick one up for £65k why don't you do it? I haven't lost a penny on mine. I guess I am an idiot for actually listening to your opinion
Yes. This guy is complaining about roughness on the gear nob. Serious? What a winger. I've had mine for several months now, and zero problems. I know loads of others with them< and no problems. Real problems are the ones where something stops or breaks. Not something that suggests you have dermatitis on the palm of your hand.
It seems you are a little bit angry because you were not able to purchase one, could this be the reason you try so hard to make the car/brand look bad?
To be honest this appears like a very sensationalist review, and the CAPS on "SAFETY" and "COMPLAINTS" make it more apparent. A some points: 1. This is a niche car on relative small production numbers. 2. A smaller brand is building it, which is not Toyota or Honda, or Porsche. 3. Any new car will have some glitches, even from major brands. In fact I have a first year model Lexus and I am dealing with several issues. Perhaps Lotus will have more issues on their first model cars given it's a smaller brand with less resources; this is unfortunately expected, it's realistic, otherwise you are kidding yourself. Lotus probably tried their best, but their best is not good enough compared to the major mass market brands. I actually applaud them for still buying manual cars. 4. A lot of the things you mentioned are software issues, who cares so long the car does not go on limp mode, they will improve them with time with ECU flashes. 5. A lot the hardware issues you mentioned are easy fixes. You forgot to mention that many, if not most of the car parts are not made my Lotus, they are made by third party suppliers like most automakers. Remember the cars will be under warranty. Yes it will be annoying to get it back to the dealer but you will not have pay for the actual parts. 6. Not everyone (or highly unlikely) will suffer from all issues you mentioned, and by now many are already likely fixed (you even mentioned it). 7. When you talk bad about something, you should also mention the positives to give an overall picture to your listeners, otherwise you are doing them a disfavor and bias them. Overall, the reviews of the car have been very positive. 7. You forgot to mention that the most (or one of the most) important parts of the car, the DRIVETRAIN, is from Toyota. Therefore it will likely be super reliable. 8. Once the initial issues are fixed, this car will be one of the best sports cars in the market, given the looks, the relative lightness, the reliable drivetrain and driving dynamics that Lotus is known for (that you also forgot to mention). I'm all for free speech. It ss ok to criticize a company, but to be honest your review appears very biased. The CAPS give the impression that it is just one more tactic to get clicks. For everyone, if you want super reliable or more generic looking car, of live to far away from a dealer, buy a Toyota or a Porsche (I also have a 911 and the alternator (not made by Porsche) just failed FYI).
@@RichReviews_ Flawed logic again. You buy a new car because the 15-20K does not bother you based on your wealth or singular economic state. For you, that may a large amount of money or irracional, but for many people is not, and that's ok: we in the west by the most part live in a free societies and people should be able do with the money with they want. You buy a new car because you can spec the car exactly the way you wanted, or otherwise have to settle with something different (color, seats, transmission, interior trim and like 15 other things). You buy a new car because you don't want one may have had a harsh life, with unknowns despite accident and other registries. You buy a new car perhaps because advantageous tax purposes legally in your jurisdiction. You buy a new car because you want to have the new dream toy and not wait. You buy a new car because you simply can afford it. All of those and more are are valid reasons. I actually usually don't buy new cars but I don't criticize people that do it in general, or openly imply that I am smarter than them. Moreover, you now come and say "they are falling through the floor", when pretty much cars depreciate except ultra limited / numbered special editions in certain brands. Oh man, are you really a car guy???? I can't believe you actually make car content material
The other way you could look at this is that you have a Ferrari 458 sat in your garage. A lot of us who have bought Emiras would probably love a 458 but it's out of reach so we've kind of bought our dream car in the form of the Lotus - and most of us love it. So to have someone in your position waging war on the car (and company) that a lot of us real owners loves makes you come across as a bit of a ****. Why aren't you out enjoying your 458 which has also probably taken a bit of a hit on depreciation? That defies logic@@RichReviews_
2 bugs and 3 safety seem relatively good to me. My Tesla Model S and Porsches had many such issues and recalls but they were fixed -"Plagued" seems a little dramatic. The issue is the speed and quality of repair which affect the availability of the car. The best car regarding quality I have owned is a Lexus but a Lexus is not a Lotus.
Rich needs to dry his eyes and move on , sad old man . Hes a well known long term moaner, rough gear lever haha My Emira is fault free and the best car I've ever owned !
Great, pleased your car is without fault…however many are not and all the customer issues were documented by Emira Customers so you’re dissing your fellow Emira owners! 😝
It’s a gorgeous looking car with incredible performance verse cost equation so somewhat disappointing these niggles undermining user enjoyment… but most are small issues..
Your personal problems with Lotus seem to have resulted in a set of rather overblown videos - given the place they were in before launching the Emira (and a few global events), nothing you're describing should be too much of a surprise. Whilst Lotus are transforming themselves, they aren't about to turn into Porsche overnight (thankfully!), so owners of a brand new model should go in with their eyes open. That said, the car is a stunner, and a joy to drive - and a unique presence on the road. Go in with the expectations of buying something exotic (which inevitably needs a little more attention than just driving it off the forecourt and expecting never to visit the dealer again), and you'll have a great experience.
I have only pooled together facts from the public domain. I have had very positive feedback from people with and without cars stating they found the information insightful towards their goals.
I love Lotus. When I was looking to get a classic I was advised LOTUS stands for Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious. I sense the real message here is better robust, product QA would have highlighted and resolved the stated issues. Overall informative. Thankyou
Not at all…watch the video again in context…all I’m doing is pulling together information already in the public domain voiced by existing Emira owners and Lotus.
It's a brand new car with updated chaises and engine it's to be expected there will be some problems with first production cars until they get the production process processes air tight
Great video. Ignore the haters .. any new models going to have problems obviously… But a few people will make a quick video that goes through a list of all those issues for us to consider so I applaud you on this video and your obvious efforts and gathering and presenting the information… Relation dealerships, we all expect issues with new models and smaller companies… But we don’t always get itemized, listed information in a concise manner for independent observers !! Excellent review
Wow. If this is the list, I feel even more confident in my purchase decision. Thanks for the relief! British engineering has not always had a great history.
Hello! Can you please make a list that can be downloaded or viewed online? Not all people speak perfect English and so you could download the list and translate it using a translator. Thank you...
This video was very good. I saw the price of the emira and saw the price of an M4 and was shocked. The emira msrp is more than double that of a bmw m4 (Aus) and is half as good performance, reliability and practicality as the m4. Makes perfect sense why this car is depreciated.
Rough gear change knob get a manual job and harden your hands up or buy some driving gloves and can't believe you need software to hold the car on a slight incline
I probably bought the one you cancelled. Thank you! It's been a wonderful trouble free experience for me. I hope the Porsche does the same for you. :). You need to filter who you listen to. (( percent of the real reviewers never mention any problems whatsoever with the Emira. This guys never owned one. Not a particularly balance review. I'm sure if you have 2000 tee shirts, you would find fault in 2 percent of them. Mostly unnoticeable.
I would recommend you read my replies to the other comments…as I said to them, the information is in the public domain therefore if you did not know it then you have been at best remiss in your research having bought the car!
Thanks Rich, that is a very helpful video. Mine has a habit of refusing to start and requesting that I have the handbrake serviced. If I leave it twenty minutes, there is a strange whirring noise, then a relay clicks and I can start it again! Other than that considerable irritation it has been no problem…………..so far. However I must confess to finding the gear knob a bit rough - perhaps I need to wear gloves?
Well, be honest with yourself, you are far away from Harry’s, for ex. And your followers are not growing. Great idea by Lotus to let you give up without send your car in time, well, Lotus did it for me, perfectly ok time ^^
They seem minor. Porsche didn't tell anyone about IMS bearing failures, bore score, oil pump failures in the 991 that seize the engine. Merc AMG don't tell you about the $150k repair bill when a small part in the engine fails. Double vanos failures in BMW to start with so many monumental engine failures. These issues are trivial in front of its german rivals.
IMS bearing survivor here. 997.1 base model. No sunroof. Lightest & stiffest 997. $37K problem. Almost what I paid for it in 2017. Have an email from Houston Porsche West offering condolences LOL... bought an Evora. My god it's such a better sports car than any 911 will be...🍻🏎
@@RichReviews_ From Australia, they not long issued 4 safety recalls, one being side curtin airbags, one for seatbelt locking mechanism and a couple of others. just to much on top of all the others. I have lost confidence in the build quality
I'd recommend wait for all the recalls to be resolved. New car models especially from small volume manufacturers often have teething issues like this. It all depends on how Lotus deals with them.
A nice, straight forward and informative Video Rich. We should thank our lucky stars we still have a few small passionate manufacturers like Lotus coming up with these creations. Agreed these are mostly minor annoying issues and its a pity they have made it to early production Cars. But hey ho I guess the tight budget doesn't help and Covid threw an almighty spanner in the works.
If you're hands are getting hurt by a smooth metal gear knob you need to toughen up, it's not the car's problem. This sounds like you need to rub some dirt on your hands and toughen up.
All manufacturers suffer with teething problems at first Lotus is no different . I have to say the problems seem fairly minor and not of the magnitude of Toyota Mercedes and BMW . Give Lotus a chance if they dont fix the the problems and ignore complaints that would be different matter entirely but there is no evidence of that occuring .
I have only pooled together facts from the public domain. I have had very positive feedback from people with and without cars stating they found the information insightful towards their goals.
Most of the problems are software related and do not detract from the merits of this exceptional car. As a tech I know all manufacturers except most Japanese models have this problem especially with new models and Lotus is no exception. The Toyota mechanicals are far superior to most other manufacturers offerings and Volvo electrics high quality too. People are so quick to criticise largely through ignorance.
I smell a whiff of bitterness... Mine is on the way - I've been an avid follower of the forum and there's not that much moaning tbh - and a good friend already has one - without issue. I'm expecting the odd problem - because I'm as fussy as f... - but they'll be minor niggles. I can live with that - look at the bloody thing... 😍
@@RichReviews_ The comments here seem to dispute your facts. As I said - there are a handful of issues - most minor - it certainly isn't 'plagued'. The forum would be in meltdown - and it isn't.
The facts are facts, freely available in the public domain. The comments don’t dispute the facts, they dispute the concern and are mostly from owners who aren’t happy their cars have suddenly dropped 20k.
All cars in that price bracket have dropped by a similar amount. Nothing to do with Emira issues. Industry drop in the last 3 months of 2023 was 17.8% There's no reason why the Emira would be immune to that - even Porsche have suffered the same problem and they are notoriously robust. I quote: [Derren Martin, head of valuations at Cap HPI, said: “It is not uncommon for values to drop in November, with movements of 3.1% in 2014, 2.6% in 2015 and 3.0% in 2020, although there have also been some stronger years when volumes were lower, particularly over the last two years. “This year is, however, the largest drop going into December that we have on record. There is no escaping that a realignment, not a crash, is ongoing.” ]
I agree...again, I am just stating the facts. It is not normal for cars to be an appreciating asset; however for the good or bad of it, many bought the Emira in the hope to make money based on a buoyant market which has since declined.
The gear knob is ... cold:) I would add: the windscreen is too big, so it can be hot during summer. Doors are big too, so you can hit a wall when leaving the vehicle (and the car is too low; why didn't they do this similar height to the average SUVs). Software issues almost cannot be avoided nowadays; otherwise, you wouldn't have a bloody patches from Microsoft, Apple, etc., and they are software companies, so you expect no issues from the car manufacturer. Get a life man ...
Did you attain an education...seems you struggle to put a grammatically correct sentence together. I am just reporting the issues already documented BY EMIRA OWNERS and by Lotus....What is your problem?
I’m not surprised if you want customer satisfaction and service. Lotus is not a byword for that. Much better off with a new V8 Naturally aspirated 5.0 Lexus LC500. Or a Nissan GT-R T-Spec and absolutely gorgeous rare car that have the highest amounts of quality, reliability and sound spectacular! You never see them around either very unique cars.
Totally, totally different cars. The Lexus is a GT not a sports car and has a different purpose. Similar with the GTR that despite it's a sports car is less analog, and much heavier with an automatic gearbox. The Emira is manual, light sports car. Very few people will cross shop it with the cars you mentioned.
Not an intelligent assessment... You can have opinions, but once they are conflated with racial/cultural/ethnic prejudice without any valid premise, any credibility in your approach is gone. We have to think more critically than that. Lotus has been known to have certain issues in the past - even before being bought by Chinese investors....
Nothing new to hear here, all pretty much often talked about on the forums but I suppose it gets views, to be honest I dont see the point of this video, owners are aware so why bother to make this video, maybe he hasnt got anything else to do.

The car industry was one area in which the British were never able to excel. There was never a British brand that could be considered 'reliable'.
Hi, thank you for engaging.
Maybe read my replies to the other similar comments because I would just provide a similar reply for you.
Fully agree...maybe rich needs a violin and a box of tissues for his next video. Lol
I'd understand if he'd had all the problems he goes on about but he doesn't even own one. It's laughable #attentionseeker
Why would I buy one now when they are falling through the floor? Why pay 15-20k more for a car just to buy it new? Defies logic, but then so do you!
The customer issues I mentioned were just a small subset of all those documented!
Kind of agree. Thanks for the comparison. Frankly, the gear knob issue is a showstopper :)
😛 you’re welcome.
Just release it when it’s ready. Is it that difficult
Rich needs to dry his eyes and move on , sad old man . Hes a well known long term moaner, rough gear lever haha
My Emira is fault free and the best car I've ever owned !
Great, pleased your car is without fault…however many are not and all the customer issues were documented by Emira Customers so you’re dissing your fellow Emira owners! 😝
Well said perhaps he should read bad news on CNN
@@RichReviews_ Your agenda is plain and obvious.
It’s a gorgeous looking car with incredible performance verse cost equation so somewhat disappointing these niggles undermining user enjoyment… but most are small issues..
Fully agree. The car had great potential, the delivery was badly executed.
Safety belt doesn't release on decline? - Got an E-Class that does that. I just sit back. What's the issue?
If on a fair incline and trying to pull to of a junction it;s not so easy and should not be required to be able to exist a junction safely.
Is still want it 😬😬 but waiting another year or two. hopefully they fixed this.
Yeah same. I'm waiting 2 years when I get a promotion.
Hopefully, the next batch of new Emira's rolling out will have these issues resolved. Great looking car and obviously fun to drive.
Agreed...As of now, Lotus UK is now providing a 0% finance deal if you pay 50% upfront with 50% paid later.
I love Lotus. When I was looking to get a classic I was advised LOTUS stands for Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious.
I sense the real message here is better robust, product QA would have highlighted and resolved the stated issues. Overall informative. Thankyou
Thanks for sharing!
Do you have an agenda against Lotus? I really appreciate your videos, but I could almost think they pissed in your coffee.
Not at all…watch the video again in context…all I’m doing is pulling together information already in the public domain voiced by existing Emira owners and Lotus.
@@RichReviews_ Hmmm I can smell something unpleasant!
It's a brand new car with updated chaises and engine it's to be expected there will be some problems with first production cars until they get the production process processes air tight
Interesting perception.
To some extent I’d agree but many should be picked up with quality control.
Any news on the 2024 emira have these issues been fixed
I will probably provide a follow up video if enough are interested.
nothing big, soft ware glithces. You make it sound so bad with bold heading. SUCH NONSENSE. ITS A GREAT CAR
I just reported what is in the public domain voiced by existing Emira owners and Lotus...Rather more than just 'Software Glitches' though!
Great video. Ignore the haters .. any new models going to have problems obviously… But a few people will make a quick video that goes through a list of all those issues for us to consider so I applaud you on this video and your obvious efforts and gathering and presenting the information…
Relation dealerships, we all expect issues with new models and smaller companies… But we don’t always get itemized, listed information in a concise manner for independent observers !! Excellent review
Thank you.
Meh, the F56 MINI had far more issues/recalls, for a low production car from a small manufacturer that lot seems pretty impressive
Wow. If this is the list, I feel even more confident in my purchase decision. Thanks for the relief! British engineering has not always had a great history.
Glad it was helpful!
Helpful pre purchase video, thank you
Glad it was helpful for you.
Who cares , I get mine in 6 months , as long as it starts and rips corners fast , don’t care if nothing else works.🎉😂
Hope all goes well.
Thank you.
is this geezah just trying to get views and subscribers?
Errrr....it's UA-cam!
Rough gear change knob get a manual job and harden your hands up or buy some driving gloves and can't believe you need software to hold the car on a slight incline
Maybe you need to read a book or two and educate yourself to enable understanding the context of a video.
Or let it warm up...
I only could find 2 safety recalls on the UK government site
Look on the official Lotus Recall Site
Very good video.... I am so happy that I cancelled my Emira and went to Porsche
Thank you.
Thanks Steve, I love the look and drive of the Emira it’s the dealer side that’s the problem.
Regret buying an emira
My steering wheel jammed when driving... Super safety issue... Should have bought a cayman gts rather
Wow what happened, have not heard of that issue before.
No way. McPherson struts all around is cheap nonsense and so is the insanely tall gearing.
My view? You are angry against Lotus cause they have ignored your order like a secondary customer… and they were right, I m o of course
Sorry…what?
Well, be honest with yourself, you are far away from Harry’s, for ex.
And your followers are not growing.
Great idea by Lotus to let you give up without send your car in time, well, Lotus did it for me, perfectly ok time ^^
@Marco-kd5df you sound very bitter

@@Marco-kd5dfwhy would I be when I can pick up near delivery mileage Emira for at least 20k cheaper than you paid?
My issue is the 0-60 time claim is false, even worse for automatic... huge lag. Also the soft limiter 😅
The soft limiter is a PITA i agree
We are rebuilding the car
Please explain.
To some extent I agree...though remember I was just reporting what was/is in the public domain regarding known safety issues.

Which recall caused you to cancel?

Did you actually watch the video?
Porsche it is then 👍🏽
Deal with a $35K short block from Porsche and these are minor complaints...
Warranty repair or did you have to fund yourself?
@@RichReviews_ every IMS bearing failure was out of pocket. Porsche pretends like it's not real. Caveat emptor
Surely if in warranty Porsche have to accept responsibility being a well known point of failure?
@RichReviews_ they never did and never will. I've owned a 993, 996, 987 and 997. That was my last Porsche. There was a class action lawsuit.
Wow...did you win the case? I assume not?
If you're hands are getting hurt by a smooth metal gear knob you need to toughen up, it's not the car's problem.
This sounds like you need to rub some dirt on your hands and toughen up.
Recommend you watch the video again. Not my hands, Issue is a recorded known concern.
I thought about buying one about 6 months ago but there were no Lotus dealers near me in the UK (North South divide). Glad I didn't now.
Buy second hand, all similar specs for the First Edition and around 77 to chose from!
Whatever. I am getting one
All the best with your ownership👍
Most of the problems are software related and do not detract from the merits of this exceptional car. As a tech I know all manufacturers except most Japanese models have this problem especially with new models and Lotus is no exception. The Toyota mechanicals are far superior to most other manufacturers offerings and Volvo electrics high quality too. People are so quick to criticise largely through ignorance.
I’m just reporting what is being officially reported by Emira owners and Lotus.
Buy a new model and you become a guinea pig for the manufacturer
Or get a great deal second hand!
I don’t buy a car to work on it
All cars need work at some time or another.

Newly designed cars are almost always beset with teething problems. The issue here is how the manufacturer resolve issues.

Never perceived these as Moans by the owners but rather statements of issues.
For my part, I am purely stating facts.
Industry drop in the last 3 months of 2023 was 17.8%
There's no reason why the Emira would be immune to that - even Porsche have suffered the same problem and they are notoriously robust.
I quote:
[Derren Martin, head of valuations at Cap HPI, said: “It is not uncommon for values to drop in November, with movements of 3.1% in 2014, 2.6% in 2015 and 3.0% in 2020, although there have also been some stronger years when volumes were lower, particularly over the last two years.
Typical British electronics
Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious. You'd think this was the first car lotus built. How could they release a car with so many serious defects...
Shhhhhh….You can’t say these kind of truths out loud. You might upset someone. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Do you own Emira?
As expected
The gear knob is ... cold:) I would add: the windscreen is too big, so it can be hot during summer. Doors are big too, so you can hit a wall when leaving the vehicle (and the car is too low; why didn't they do this similar height to the average SUVs). Software issues almost cannot be avoided nowadays; otherwise, you wouldn't have a bloody patches from Microsoft, Apple, etc., and they are software companies, so you expect no issues from the car manufacturer. Get a life man ...
You speak in rhymes!
Are they troubles? Ridiculous!
Lexus? Jap`s car? Are you a nut?
Dump it
Lotus stand's for lots of trouble usually serious
Honda, Porsche: We build ugly reliable cars. Lotus, Ferrari: We build beautiful unreliable cars.
To say Porsche makes ugly cars - and to place that brand in the same category as Honda, is slightly extreme.
A British made car, oh the shock 😂😂😂

Not an intelligent assessment...
You can have opinions, but once they are conflated with racial/cultural/ethnic prejudice without any valid premise, any credibility in your approach is gone.
We have to think more critically than that.
Lotus has been known to have certain issues in the past - even before being bought by Chinese investors....
Nothing new to hear here, all pretty much often talked about on the forums but I suppose it gets views, to be honest I dont see the point of this video, owners are aware so why bother to make this video, maybe he hasnt got anything else to do.
