    Love your videos! I have inherited my dad's '49 MGTC that hasn't run in 20 years and I will likely be going through similar challenges when I have the time (hopefully not too long from now)... These videos are so great and will provide much help when that time comes. Thanks.

    When you were talking about how you didn't get the flywheel machined even though you had highlighter the instruction, it made me think of a gaff I had several years ago. I have seen you working late at night and when it has been roasting hot. I goofed when I was replacing the exhaust/intake manifold gasket. I have a brake booster on my 1977 MGB and when I added the HS-4 carbs I had to purchase K&N filters that were conical in shape. My mistake was placing the mounting disc on the rear carb and I couldn't get the filter to fit. I just stood there glaring at it wondering why it fit before but not now.I had put the disc on upside down. It was 90 plus degrees outside and over a hundred in the garage. Brain fog had struck. Unfortunately your problem turned out to be far more involved than mine.

    I had an Austin America(😂😂 i know) but the same thing sort of happened to me! I hit the flywheel side of the motor on a rock which broke a motor mount but unknown to me it slightly bent the flywheel and that wore away the main seal until it leaked so bad ( a quart a day) and went through 3 starters 😢

    Has the ship sailed on reverting back to the original scroll 'seal' ? Its not ideal but original.

    • @limit55
      @limit55  12 днів тому

      @@markm781 the thing is the grooves in my crank are worn. I’m debating about doing this however. It is an option. Just feel I’ve gone through so much to make this work, may as well try with the correct seal.

    • @markm781
      @markm781 9 днів тому

      I see. I hope it gets sorted, it seems the upgraded seal either works ok or they really leak, and such a pain to re-address. Hang in there!

      @@limit55 May be time to grit teeth and, if the crank is in otherwise good shape, get it flame welded and re machined.

The school of hard knocks is rarely cheap. Hang in there. Fatigue is a compounding factor most don't take into account. Almost inevitable when working, having a house own you, valuable relationships to maintain, yada, yada. Sometimes just need to say, as the Jewish sage put it, "Sufficient unto the day is the evil there of." and just go to bed. I love watching you work on this. One of my favorite young adult books was "The Red Car" still on the shelf. But at 67 decided it's time to let some dreams go. Also, if you do have to repeat the head gasket fix, consider using Loctite 545 Pneumatic/Hydraulic Pipe Thread Sealant. Technically for fine threads, it may still work better than the silicone. Best of luck.

    I noticed that the head gasket went over the back water jacket instead of around it. Could that be the cause of your leak?
    Maybe a little trimming of the head gasket there?
