When you first started the episode talking about shipping containers and would it work, I had to laugh. Here we are in 2024, and the Tiny Home movement and living off grid has been using shipping containers for the last few years for homes. Looks like Patrick was a pioneer. Beautifully done, Patrick. You have a beautiful home, and a lovely family. Wishing you a wonderful future in your home. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤
I've watched this episode of few times. And yet I'm always apprehensive in the first half, I hold my breath when the containers are being lifted into place, and I find my cheeks hurting at the end, only to realize I've been smiling the whole time at the finished home. I recall Kevin being asked once what his favorite house is of all the houses he's covered, and this was the one he chose. That really says something when you consider how very many homes he's visited.
I remember watching this back in 2014, after my accounting class and I knew it was the start of greater things to come. I’m looking at how containers are used in 2024. I know that container dwellings have been there for sometime, but none (that I had seen) were executed this well. I still draw inspiration from this episode each and every time, crazy to think it’s been 10 years now.
It’s amazing that Patrick has all this imagination and forward thinking when you compare him to his mum. I bet the rest of the family was 110% believing in him!
This is absolutely stunning, one of the top three architectural design episodes I have ever set my eyes on. I am also a designer of graphics and fashion. This should teach viewers that when you leave things and trust your designer with their vision, granted they are talented like Patrick, there is no end to what they can do.
The guy is a genius and he did an amazing job, the location was a perfect , and if he decides he wants a family he could add 1 or 2 more shipping containers...
I thought the little bit of cheeky sendoff at the end with the tub was the perfect ending. Wonderfully done, and well executed. The company I used to work for in the mid to late 90's had been using roughed out shipping containers at tunneling sites in Morocco since the early 80's for both the Machine mechanics and rotating workers. Not a new idea, but one that has caught on, and I'm so glad it has. Too bad the prices have shot up so much since then on used shipping containers. 4000 for a 40', not including delivery. The last batch I bought was 12-20' containers for a raise drill, and pipe. Paid 500 ea delivered to our shop. They were a yr old, and that was in 97.
Wow, obviously this project was already a success before it started, beamwork played a very important role especially structural weight bearing calculations
Shipping containers for a house . It is a grand ideal . How ever what you do with them . Must be a WOW of a design , . Both inside and out !" Patrick with his ideals came throw with flying colors . And a wonderful way of building in own home . " Great Job !!" :
When I first saw this episode I loved the idea of using shipping containers. Seeing it again, I haven't changed my mind in the slightest. Still not keen on the bath though :)
They are being done by many in USA . Homes,Shop stores, all owned by personal owner also. Many have done beautiful jobs with them. Instalaltion is important to. 👉Your ground may need to be built up higher ,looks a kinda damp around and marcie. 😊 Many in America have done this, some in Wilmington,N.C.,,maybe able to get great tips. They have done great jobs with there's
Cool, a lot of containers are used to transport toxic chemicals and plus you only save 20% if you build a house with them, it costs more money to strengthen and insulate the structure than using normal materials to build a normal house.
An architectural masterpiece. My favorite episode of the series!
This has to be one of my favorite Grand Designs of all time. Thanks for posting so I can enjoy it again.
Hard agree
@@ElonPete Did you catch Kevin's revisit? Gratifying. Patrick and a new lady are thriving in that clever home.
@@barbarashapiro7499 do you have any more info on the revisit? I can't find anything about it online

I can’t remember seeing a more beautiful container home. Exceptional design. The hammock tub is great.
This is a fave! So stylish! Paddy made a beautiful home.

Incredible! Fairy land landscapes, tread lightly upon it, be still and listen; magic happens here. 🤫
Fabulous. A piece of sculpture. And Patrick is so cute, too!!!
Can I just say how well Patrick dresses? Very refined and rustic. Had no doubt about the design of his dwelling.

Absolutely amazing. I would truly enjoy working with/for such an architect.
Well done Paddy, absolutely stunning & ingenious
Absolutely brilliant!!!! He can design a home for me any day… once I hit the lottery to pay for it! ❤
Absolutely spectacular... I love it!
Great achievement in your prime time Patrick
What a beautiful place 👌🏿👏🏿
Remarkably beautiful work of art! ❤ Why does Kevin McCloud condescend so?

VERY Impressive Indeed !!!
I'm in Awe ❤
Beautiful!
Genius!
HE HAS AN EYE for a sexy design just love it so modern concept!
More charming than most of the stick framers dotting the landscape
Loved it!
I would love to see an update of this show.
If this is the same cost as social housing then why don't we have better social housing?
Beautiful
AWESOME 🎉
Damn, this is gorgeous, and how in TH did he do it on that budget??
possibly as good as architecture gets

That is Beautiful 😍❣️☺️❤️
How much negativity did this guy face to before his house got done? If I had a shot for every negative comment I’d be in the hospital.
The structure is outstanding,,but the rust exterior? Crap! Get some brick & stone,,put some ole on to the new!
The rule of thumb, which you know of course, is that most construction projects end up costing 20% more than planned..
He’s a bit precious!. . .
Patrick is an absolute sweetheart...but this home doesn't fit into this environment

The shipping container. Another American invention
Marry me.
the host is such a pessimist lol
If this place was in any way supposed to be inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece "Fallingwater," it failed. Clunky and graceless.
100k pounds? Right double or triple that is more like it
Please dont talk so much.🎯
I hate it when the people use the Lord's name in vain on TV, it should be banned 😡 I switch it off when I hear that 😡
"What did it cost?"
"A lot of restless nights!"
Proper.
