Like the black wheels on the coupe a lot. It’s not beautiful but at least it’s not ridiculous looking either. I test drove one of these 2020 and it’s super fun and a real deal.
I bought a 2017 Si sedan when they first came out. It is a decent performer and gets exceptional gas mileage -- typically get 45mpg on trips. The Si replaced a 2005 S2000 and I consider it a reasonable compromise that is more pleasant to drive on trips and fits my TREK bicycle in the back with the front wheel off. I regret that they changed the final drive because the current ratio puts the car at 3000 rpm at 80 and the mileage is a bonus as opposed to a marginal performance increase which I don't need. I was disappointed by the local Honda dealer's service at 30K miles. They tried to sell me a service which included BG additives that pushed the basic Honda required cost of $550.00 to over $800.00. I the think the basic Honda service is way overpriced at $550.00. I have not experienced the oil dilution problem, but live in a hot climate which may make the difference. Honda sent me a letter which extended the warrant of affect engine items to 6 years with unlimited mileage. Thd SI is a performance bargain in my opinion.
My 20 is 3000 rpm at 75mph, a little difference, I went out of a sequoia so the fuel is fine at about 39 on long trips, cold climate and short trips affect dilution so if that's not the case we should be fine, I'm in Florida, cold temps not a concern
I’ll take usable low end torque with the turbo that runs to 6800 rather than an engine where you never feel as hard a pull with lower torque that comes at higher rpm’s.
4:05 no, so glad they did not paint the regular size calipers red. The point of painted calipers is to show off big Brembos or the like. Average sized calipers painted a bright color is super cheesy.
Not having leather is a bonus. Leather being used today is super cheap and does not wear well. Cloth seats will actually wear and age better compared to leather seats with the same mileage/age.
Turbocharge 1.5 I4 with direct injection no thank you. Ill take the 2.4 I4 with port injection anyday dont trust these motors from any manufacture even Honda.
@@zoezzzarko1117 Referencing mileage in terms of direct injection engines was misinformed on my part, it's more so the type of mileage that'll ruin these engines. Short trips and lots of traffic/ stop and go driving are horrible for these types of engines.
The turbo is cool tbh. VTEC is special for sure along with the high revving engine. Not having to rev your engine out to the top to make power is also nice. I would say test drive an Si and you might actually be surprised.
Honda confirmed this will be the final year for the manual transmission for all Honda civics (except type r). It is being replaced in the Si with a DCT from the ILX.
However, functionally speaking, the hp difference (174 vs 180) between the base turbo and sport hatchback turbo doesn't feel significant in the slightest, notably, the official torque figures between the cvt turbos are exactly the same at 162 lb-ft. Particularly in comparison to the the turbo sedans (excepting the sport touring) due to their overall lower weight. The difference between the other hatchbacks are a bit more pronounced but 0-60 times are pretty comparable between pretty much all of the 1.5L turbo civics (minus the higher-trim versions and the SI of course) .
Has anyone tried swapping the base Accord engine into this? Because the base Accord engine is similar to the SI engine except for twi difference: the base Accord does in fact have VTEC, and the Accord can take regular fuel
Where the hell did you get 20psi from? These make 14 from the factory on a good day. Tuning it will get you 20psi. Or a CAI with an Intercooler will grant you 18psi untuned. If this had 20psi it would be running like 250+ tq and around 220whp.
I’m surprised Honda made the final drive gear lowered or taller per day. Cause my 18 si you have to short shift it or it will rev out like crazy. Wish they delete the rev hang from factory and made a little bit smaller gear for 1st.
Can you actually get to 60 without a gear change at 59. I cant believe they had it geared that way. It totally screwed up the 0-60 times and made them seem slow.
True but honda didnt intend to make this car to be drag racing. They made it for back roads with curves and track use. Thats why it better then the all pervious si on the track. For 25k what car gives you adaptive dampers, stiff steering sport mode, and an lsd. Every other car that does that is an upgrade option only. Its also meant to be fun, affordable, reliable for which it really is.
I have a 2018 Honda Civic Si coupe. I added the auto-dimming rearview mirror when I originally financed it. I'm noticing on Honda's website that it's not an option you can select any longer on the 2020 models. I know they have Honda Sensing, but do they come with the auto-dimming rearview mirror as standard or is it no longer supported? If so, WTF!
The SI gets my attention, but the fact that you can get a Type R for not a lot more (provided they still aren't getting massively marked up) makes this car a moot point. A crappy infotainment system also hurts. As compared to the GTI or GLI, those are better deals if you can accept the lower reliability of any German car. Plus the passenger visor isn't capable of moving and VW also decided that the power button icon moves with the knob.
Does the change in the final drive ratio help the car get to 60mph before you have to shift to 3rd gear? That was the issue in the MY2016-2019, the non-SI could hit 60mph b4 3rd whereas the SI would need 2-shifts to hi 60 around the same time.
my problem is the 1.5L is already compatible w their 10 speed automatic bc u can get it on the accord but they wont put an automatic on it and i can understand putting manual only on the type r bc its just a goofily fast civic that looks absurd and is supposed to be fun to drive but i have a bad leg so i cant drive a manual and theyre limiting the daily usability of what would be a fun, practical, sporty, affordable car and theyve lost my sale because of it.

I just bought mine 2018 Civic hatchback EX-T. I also tried Mazda 3 Hatch back, after testing both cars, I went for the Civic. Civic hatchback has Good resale value... I still like Mazda 3 Hatch back over many other cars...
I forgot about the car once Clint showed up 🥳🙈
I've had mine for 10 thousand miles already it's a great family car ,mines a sedan, if I didn't need the back seat as much the coupe looks great and it's the last year for it ,rims exhaust and a small sub and it's the envy of coworkers with brand new trucks costing twice as much
I have an 8th gen si, and I love it. Revving it to hell and back still makes me giddy. But for this model's base price I'd definitely check out a WRX. For the same amount of money, you get a more powerful and spacious car.
I wish they would make a fit type r. Like what the straightpipes showed in their fit sport video
You could just buy a sport, and tune it.
They actually are making a fit type r BUT only for Japan. Who knows if it'll release outside of Japan let alone the USA.
@@3FreddyKrueger Another JDM we have to wait for 25 years
@@3FreddyKrueger doubt it'll come here since the base fit isn't even coming to the US :/
@@jordanrosenberg9816 I blame the people that want a Honda Odyssey type r instead of something light and nimble
The best thing about the Elantra Sport is that Kia offers a better looking alternative on the same platform, the Forte GT. Hyundai ruined the Elantra Sport in 2019. Not sure what they were thinking.
I'm guessing they wanted people to move up to the Sonata. Its polarizing too but at least it doesn't scream "I'M AN ECONOMY CAR!" like the new Elantra.
@@user-gm4kv2my4u
The new 2020 Sonata looks really amazing. You could be right.
The exhaust looks like a phone charging port.
xlasvegan7x those Android ones 😂😂😂😂
lol
more like HDMI port
Civic Sport Hatch 6mt life! haha. Love the Si though, I just need that hatch space.
Old civic si had this raw growl through the rev band. Now it sounds like my ninja blender. I dont know honda should stick to their roots. Let VW and other companies do the turbos.
MrNick98 for real,they went from a 2.4 k24 to a freaking 1.5🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️, basically a Honda Fit with a small turbo lol
I have a 2014 black si. The refreshed 9th gen w the 2.4l. I really really like this new refreshed 2020 especially in this red (probably white too, black would look too blacked out), however I don't think I could trade it in for this due to the fact that the k24 is such a fun and naturally amazing sounding engine. It revs higher and has a more fun powerband too. But damn, this car looks nice...
Emissions emissions emissions
@@jamesreilly3058 the k24 was an exceptionally efficient engine
Brett Griffith I’m referring to emissions not efficiency.
Why no hatchback version of the Si?
They wanted to differentiate from the R
The UK gets parking sensors and all kinds of little things we didn't get. Electric folding mirrors, rear fog lights, 1.0 turbo, 1.5 turbo, and a 1.8 diesel, plus the 2.0 NA. Lots of tiny little options we didn't get.
We always get screwed in the states. I spent 2 years searching out a low miles black '20 sedan cause the 11thgen was missing so many options the Canadian one has
Like the black wheels on the coupe a lot. It’s not beautiful but at least it’s not ridiculous looking either. I test drove one of these 2020 and it’s super fun and a real deal.
Only $25,000, the price is perfect! Type R $36K, out of reach most of people
I bought a 2017 Si sedan when they first came out.
Great review sofyan
Been waiting for this review
Keep fighting the good fight to save the manual transmission!
I’ll take usable low end torque with the turbo that runs to 6800 rather than an engine where you never feel as hard a pull
with lower torque that comes at higher rpm’s.
I have a 19 si sedan,. I have a lot of complaints, but none of them are about the driving dynamics. Cars a blast and outhandles $40k cars.
I have a 2020 SI and I have wireless charging, built in Navigation, and heated back seats
i would love this interior with the typer r engine/drivetrain. simple and clean without the over the top red bits
4:47 that bulbous area sticking out just looks heavy and old. Rears should always look flat. Mazdas have the same styling in the rear too.
4:05 no, so glad they did not paint the regular size calipers red. The point of painted calipers is to show off big Brembos or the like. Average sized calipers painted a bright color is super cheesy.
Not having leather is a bonus. Leather being used today is super cheap and does not wear well. Cloth seats will actually wear and age better compared to leather seats with the same mileage/age.
i would love a 250hp Si, would keep it at least competitive in todays market.
Ive owned a few si’s and never noticed power increase with vtec. So glad they went with turbo
The Honda Civic Si is really sweet. It is interesting how fun it is 👍
Car, yes. That wing, no. Go with the 9th gen Si rear wing.
Just bought a 2020 love it.
I must not have that rev beep turned on I never hear that, not that I want to though either lol
Turbocharge 1.5 I4 with direct injection no thank you. Ill take the 2.4 I4 with port injection anyday dont trust these motors from any manufacture even Honda.
You're right to feel that way. You should see what the intake valves look like at higher mileage on these GDI engines 😱
@@jayprimo What do you consider to be "high mileage" ?
@@zoezzzarko1117 Referencing mileage in terms of direct injection engines was misinformed on my part, it's more so the type of mileage that'll ruin these engines.
Short trips and lots of traffic/ stop and go driving are horrible for these types of engines.
@@jayprimo Great to know. Thanks so much !!! My mazda 2.3L stick shift loved long drives too. She was happiest on the open road for sure
I’ll be glad when the black alloy wheel trend ends.
What u want chrome 22inch spinners to come back?
The exhaust on this sounds way better than the one on the Type R lol
I'm trying to like the new civics but that lack of VTEC transition @ high revs just feels incomplete.
The turbo is cool tbh. VTEC is special for sure along with the high revving engine. Not having to rev your engine out to the top to make power is also nice. I would say test drive an Si and you might actually be surprised.
I miss the sound of my old neon SRT4 😩🥰, even in stock form it sounded like a beast.
As long as it is a manual transmission then we’re good.
Honda confirmed this will be the final year for the manual transmission for all Honda civics (except type r). It is being replaced in the Si with a DCT from the ILX.
Dolphins101 I hope you’re are joking 🙃
@@almightyretrosoul I'm not. CTR will get a DCT next year with a refresh so manuals will no longer be sold in any Honda as of 2021 model year
Dolphins101 I guess I am doomed to deal with unreliable cars with semi decent transmissions😪 I guess I shall buy cars new because used DCTs are shit.
@@ormand3000 Do you have a source? Honda's manual take rates have been increasing on the Civic.
So in order of power it goes like this? Regular Honda Civic
not quite, its NA civics (including the sport sedan and coupe which are NA)
However, functionally speaking, the hp difference (174 vs 180) between the base turbo and sport hatchback turbo doesn't feel significant in the slightest, notably, the official torque figures between the cvt turbos are exactly the same at 162 lb-ft. Particularly in comparison to the the turbo sedans (excepting the sport touring) due to their overall lower weight. The difference between the other hatchbacks are a bit more pronounced but 0-60 times are pretty comparable between pretty much all of the 1.5L turbo civics (minus the higher-trim versions and the SI of course) .
@@videosurfer268 thanks for the info.
@@aseeds7785 Np! Hope it helped! :)
Previous gen si was 2015. No si for 2016.
Glad I am not the only one who caught that.
Has anyone tried swapping the base Accord engine into this? Because the base Accord engine is similar to the SI engine except for twi difference: the base Accord does in fact have VTEC, and the Accord can take regular fuel
I like all the features on this Si, nice blacks wheels ect.
Haters gonna hate. But I like the new Si.
Where the hell did you get 20psi from? These make 14 from the factory on a good day. Tuning it will get you 20psi. Or a CAI with an Intercooler will grant you 18psi untuned. If this had 20psi it would be running like 250+ tq and around 220whp.
Joe Osborne, Honda claims 20psi but yeah it never reaches that, not even close.
Great review and dialog. Almost bought your ILX...
Honestly.... I kinda want one as my long term daily. I'm fed up with how expensive cars are these days.
Refer to Car and Driver article called Weeder Car for results on acceleration times due to the 2020 final drive change. Not what one would expect.
@@Stormtrooper-oc4vn I get it. Im not putting Honda down. I love the si. I own a 2015 and the new ones are sweet.
@@ericdolby1622 ahhh makes sense i personally want an ep3 but its illegal in the states :(
I have a 2018 Honda Civic Si coupe. I added the auto-dimming rearview mirror when I originally financed it. I'm noticing on Honda's website that it's not an option you can select any longer on the 2020 models. I know they have Honda Sensing, but do they come with the auto-dimming rearview mirror as standard or is it no longer supported? If so, WTF!
These cars with a tune are really a lot more fun to drive.
An SI hatchback sporting the dual round exhaust tips would be the cats meow....
Clint is bae
Stoked about my SI, there is an android auto upgrade and wireless charger available now.
Like the rims. I have a WRX but do miss the shifter from the SI
Honda has the best manuals in the business, hands down.
How can a spoiler *not* be functional (@4:30)? Isn't the purpose of a spoiler to Improve down force? Just being there makes it 'functional', doesn't it? 🤯
TypeRs should make more down force but that's the only function it has.
I wish Honda made a type R with out the over the top body kit, and not a red interior,
Or a Si + with a non VTEC type r engine, with like 250hp
Jose Salazar the type r has 306hp the model I’m thinking of would be above the si but below the type R so 250hp

Stop comparing this to the Type R! Very different car...
And btw there was no 2016 si. Do your homework son.
