Such a shame we didn't see the actual cam-belt and water-pump change Neil. I often wonder why you even bother with gloves? They always tear within a few minutes of the video. Great video thanks.
one of the the first things I did to save my back axle was to remove it before it got beyond restoring as its a 595( 2013) and I took the axle out to sand blast it and get it powder coated and oiled where any rust catching corners are and greased....Also blast oil into chassis front ....At jacking points into inner side sills where i drilled holes and injected more oil spray and removed grommets everywhere I could find them . Important good thing to do is to remove caked mud from inner strut area as there is a silly trench that traps dirt and water which required machine wire buffing painting and new sealer to completely fill both dirt collecting trenches up at both front struts on inner guard pannels so that water or dirt will never collect there again and hench no rust problems will ever occur there again or in the future ....When the rain and muck hit that area the muck and rain won't gather as there is no collection long troff as it has a 45 degree run off after the modification . Worth doing to save headaches in future. Renew rear axle bushing mounts and tank straps as they rot...springs and shockers . The front struts and springs ...calipers front and rear ...rear shocks and brake pipes as you are on a roll.....get the German Superchips install and giggle your way to 146 +mph and a bit more....but pack spare underwear ! Fun wee scarey gasoline rocket ship! Parts for them are pricey I found but THE FUN!..... OH AND CHEEKY NICE NOTE ....
Only the Italians could make an oil can that is as pretty as the car. If I ever win the lottery I want one of those in my man cave. Car, and...oil can. 😂
I've owned one for 12 years - its had its faults (broken pedal, brake master cylinder, three sets of top mounts, two sets of dampers, three inner cv joints, auto-disconnecting abs sensors and a noisy radiator fan. Still more reliable than my sons Audi A4 and still chucking out about 15% more power than listed (unmapped, unmodified). Once you work out how to jack them up without destroying the skirts the rest is actually pretty easy
Had a wee bit of fun against a biposto with my fiat 20vt plus and was quite impressed with it....impressed but eventually left it behind, but it looked like real fun...looked good too I thought. 👍✌️😁
Surprising how much corrosion is already under the car. Looks a real pain to work on ( in the driveway) but as it's so new they will obviously be serviced in garages. I usually swap those clips for jubilee clips but I suppose you have lot's of them and the tool for clamping them up.
Don't know whether you have came across this but my fuel line was touching the underside of the air filter housing...almost cut through😯. Also some of the brake servo pipes were touching giving a horrible vibration through the clutch pedal🙄. Anyhows I zip tied them in a safer way and feels much better 😉👍
jesus, my 6 years old competizione looks a little tiny less rusty on the undercarriage than this abarth, I'm so happy, i was thinking it was really bad.
Fair play to you Neil. Having one of these cars I have tried 2 different main dealer franchises. I can say 100% they do not change the oil filter in these cars. They simply drain the oil then refill it. They also put any oil they use at the dealer not the recommended 10-50 oil. I would say that if you want to know it’s been done right, either do it yourself or visit Neil 👍 I would also think twice about buying one with “full dealer history” 🤷🏻♂️
Have you ever had to work on 166 because I just bought one and it has a lot of problems I need help with it and I couldn’t find anything 166 on you account
Does the oil cooler drain thru too. I dont trust mine so disconnect it. I also add a bit of new cheaper oil to the engine to push out as mush of the old stuff especially at the drain hole.
I used to own a Fiat Strada Abarth back in the day. I absolutely loved it and it certainly left me with a soft spot for Abarth. I’d really like a 500 Abarth but too many children at present - maybe when I’m an ‘empty nester’, ha! The access to the oil filter is dire, would there be any easier way through the headlight aperture?
you will need the 27 mil socket but if you attack a quater drive extention and a reducer to take a quter drive you can get the the long quater drive long extention through a hole in the top pannel and put the big socket with a "universal drive or wobbly bit"onto the big socket and slide the narrow 1/4 drive through the small hole in the landing pannel to connect to the large socket where filter is located. I suck out the dirty oil in filter casing with a small vacuum hose and leave it totally clean...add some oil to filter to prime it...does no harm..good practice...good luck.
Given the cambelt/waterpump stage is supposed to be front-off, why do all the messing around at the start? If this is how garages are doing the servicing it is no wonder the pipes get broken so often... Somehow managed to avoid any on mine over 12 years of servicing but see so many people complaining on forums
And I thought the Fiat 500 twinair engine bay was cramped. This goes to another level!
Such a shame we didn't see the actual cam-belt and water-pump change Neil. I often wonder why you even bother with gloves? They always tear within a few minutes of the video. Great video thanks.
Another informative, no nonsence video. Many thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge.
Thanks for watching

Nice, what a daft place to put an oil filter! ;-)

Hi Neil,Loving the Abarth stuff, did you film the cam belt change?
Would be well handy, any good tips for getting the engine mounts out? Cheerrs
No didn't film it. 1mounts are easy just use a jack and a piece of wood to lift engine up or down.
For all their faults, I simply love the little Abarths. Would you consider them reliable and easy to own?
I've owned one for 12 years - its had its faults (broken pedal, brake master cylinder, three sets of top mounts, two sets of dampers, three inner cv joints, auto-disconnecting abs sensors and a noisy radiator fan. Yeah I love them. When it comes to big jobs like a clutch it's a pain but mostly it's understanding how they come apart
You even use the proper engine oil! Great again Neil!
Had a wee bit of fun against a biposto with my fiat 20vt plus and was quite impressed with it....impressed but eventually left it behind, but it looked like real fun...looked good too I thought. 👍✌️😁
Nice 👍
Really cool video. I do the oil services on mine myself too. Please make a video of the cambelt change.
one day i might.
When servicing my cars, including the Abarth, I make sure to use Millers, which is expensive, but you know you're using some quality stuff!
Nice to see another awesome Italian car being looked after..good job😉
Thanks! 👍
Liked to have seen the cambelt done too !

Rear subframes are there only weak point rust wise and it's easy to fix.

Nice video, not a lot of info on Abarths so thank you for sharing. Where could I find the toque specs for the nuts and bolts?
Will you please do a video how to replace alfa romeo gt black vents between front lights? Mine are becoming white for some reason

Yeah it's very easy to be tempted for garages cut corners on these.
On to the driver's rear....
Right.
Great video as usual, thanks.
Cheers
Enjoyed this one Neil, bit different. Would take one of these over a Mini Cooper S or Up GTI anyday. Wasn’t expecting that bit of Spongebob!
thanks for watching. adding a little bit of humor to my vids where possible.
Man I waited for a test drive...🤗 these abarths go crazy
They are extremely fun to drive.
All that to change an oil filter. Ouch!
Have you ever had to work on 166 because I just bought one and it has a lot of problems I need help with it and I couldn’t find anything 166 on you account
Not done any videos of a 166.
Now riddle me this: It's BEAUTIFUL, BLUE in the BACKGROUND.
Whole series on thst car.
@@ItaliaAutos I know. I just couldn't help myself. :-)
I notice you use selenia oil, is that what's recommended for these Neil?
its what i like to use
Neil, love your work, wish you were here in Brisbane Oz, my fleet of Alfa’s and Fiat’s would be yours…🤟
Just i thought, if you would like more u tube viewings, try some videos on normal, Puntos, Pandas and 500s.
Enjoyed that Nelly, nice one.
Glad you enjoyed it
I think the next rental for Arm Drop would be fun in that Fiat. May be just a tad faster than the Firebird ..Ha Ha
I have a 2009 500 Abarth what kind of cost do you charge to do timing belt, tensioner and water pump thanks
Lee cars done 62000
send me an email to italiaautoparts@sky.com thanks
How many miles had the XSR done to need a cam belt?
Does the oil cooler drain thru too. I dont trust mine so disconnect it. I also add a bit of new cheaper oil to the engine to push out as mush of the old stuff especially at the drain hole.
Yeah oil will stay in the oil cooler.
would love an abarth 500..interesting video on the service.the 500's are a very popular car.nice to know there gremlins!.
thanks for watching.
Excellent video and well presented
Thanks for watching.
Did you say this car was two years old? That subframe rusting is really poor design.
Prob getting on for 4 years old

Oil filter access is actually not bad at all, it looks worse in this video than it really is.
you will need the 27 mil socket but if you attack a quater drive extention and a reducer to take a quter drive you can get the the long quater drive long extention through a hole in the top pannel and put the big socket with a "universal drive or wobbly bit"onto the big socket and slide the narrow 1/4 drive through the small hole in the landing pannel to connect to the large socket where filter is located. Still running winter tyres....

Its not a front end off job to do the cambelt when you know how.
Please do one on the cambelt change. thanks
Stupid place to put a oil filter, apart that a really interesting video Neil.
It's just lack of room. Id rather it be there than the back of the engine.
Nice bit of work this
What is that what you use to measure the water in the brake fluid reservoir Neil? Nice vid again thank you!
Brake fluid tester lol.
@@ItaliaAutosyour right Neil, Amazon sell's them for £3.99.....I'll get one than.......thanks anyway :-)
The car is a couple of years old and the sub frame is rusting? wow
yep terrible. cheap chineseium
Modern paints are garbage, recent newish Alfa videos have shown plenty of surface rust starting.
nice vid neil
Thanks
Snow tyres, right?
Winter tyres, about to be swapped for summer
does the mito have the same engine? not much room in that engine bay
Similar engine yes.
I've been told to stay away from the 500 platform Auto due being 'problematic'. Is this true or just an Au thing?
No problem at all.
