Magic mask is definitely a favorite. As far as "studio-not studio" is concerned, I used to pay $100 aud a year for about 10 years upgrading Videostudio Pro. Resolve Studio is a one off payment for life. "No brainer" for me. 🙂
Thanks so much for this. I have watched this a couple of times now, so am going to give it a go. I am no serious amateur, but did a wedding video for my niece. I forgot to record some kids on the day making chapter dividers ; for example, some of them saying Lets get Married, lets eat. the first dance etc. So I had the idea of using magic mask to put them back in the wedding even though the videos of them were recorded back at home........(thought you might appreciate a genuine use case and gratitude in making this video)
That's a great use case for it! And yes, I DO love hearing feedback like this! So many videos seem geared towards one specific use case, but I tried to make it as general as possible while showing my own results. Good luck with it, let me know how it turns out!
I bought the Studio version in 2021. I started video editing with Filmora and we had a fight about an upgrade and they reimbursed me the whole year. Daniel Batal advised me to switch to DaVinci Resolve and I felt it is another level. I don't remember why I decided to buy the studio version, but I had good reasons, I would say. I never regreted it.
10-bit 422 video is 'Studio Only' and that's what the cameras I handle spits out. I got the SpeedEditor at the same time but I'm not loving it that much. ShuttlePRO v2 is a better fit for me. Plus it also works in a ton of other programs.
Oh, thanks for the reminder! I forgot that some of the codecs aren't available in the free version. The Shuttle Pro is NICE, BTW! Thanks for watching & commenting!
My favourite feature, or at least the feature that convinced me to purchase studio, is that I can use my 4090 during rendering. Takes a 1 hour render to 10 mins.
I bought studio just for magic mask. Trying to figure out how to use it to insert myself into movie clips. Having a hard time fixing a track when it gets way off and I start losing most of the picture. I'm sure I'm not using the tracking mechanisms right
Yeah, it sounds like you're moving your masked-self around, which can wreak havoc on the Magic Mask... you may want to render out yourself with transparency and then drop that on top of the movie clip. Scroll down in my catalog, there's a video showing how to do transparency - hope that helps!
@CreatorReality1 I think I'm trying to track too many times and too many different places also. It'll do good to a point and then when I see it not doing good I stopped it put red lines on what's starting to appear and then continue tracking by the time I finish and look at my lines my track lines are moving all over the place, it's crazy
The studio version is bundle with any Black Magic design hardware, in my case i have it with my BMPCC 4K for descrambled the BRAW file and edit the shoot that my camera delivered , but the cheapest way to get, it's with the Black Magic speed edit keyboard.
Makes me feel better seeing multiple stokes - sometimes I feel like I’m using it wrong bc half the video is added strokes and no one else touch on that
If you did greenscreen, would it be better than using the normal keying nodes, as you have to make sure that the greenscreen has to be evenly lit, no wrinkles and have the subject far enough away to get no green light spill.
I use the normal keyer nodes when I use a green screen... but Resolve has enough matte control to work around wrinkles and uneven lighting. I should do a green screen tutorial. The green spill is a pain sometimes, especially where I film [not enough room for proper separation].
Awesome! Matte settings are in the "Matte" portion, in the Inspector for Magic Mask in Fusion. You can adjust the edges there. While I didn't dive into Matte settings in the video, at about the 7:50 mark, you can see it - it's the middle tab. Good luck, hope that helps!
Nice video, but i'm having trouble masking (moving) objects infront of the subject and reflecting in a window. Still not sure how to handle it the best and easiest way LOL.
I'm not sure how you'd handle reflections... I'm not quite at that level, but for moving objects in front of the subject - I'd use a separate Magic Mask for that, and layer it on top of your subject's magic mask.
@@rayvelt Awesome - let me know if you get it to work :D I know in the past, I've done 3 or 4 layers of Magic Mask and tracking to comp a shot, and it works out pretty well.
Magic mask is definitely what lead me to buy the studio version… so backstory I’m a dance videography and on a specific project after I sent the final edit the client was like “can u blur out the background? 🤦🏾♂️” …the only problem with that was that the dance video was 20 mins long with dozens of dancers moving in and out of frame and to sit and keyframe all the movements was not it so got out my credit card and the rest was history

Great point! Those higher resolutions aren't available for free. The H.265 you talk about... IIRC, it can be rendered by an Nvidia graphics card if you have Studio - definitely a boon for rendering!
Great content! I do have a question. Say I want to mask something out. An example would be like you did to yourself when you added yourself to the beach. How can you save that clip of yourself and use it in later projects, where you can also change your shape, size, and position? If you understand what I mean and you explain how to do it please explain like you're talking to a child.
Ahh, good question! You'd have to either render the clip out using the Deliver page, and make you set "Export Alpha" - like how I did in the Transparency video, or you could use a Saver node in Fusion to do the same thing, and a Loader in the other projects.
