    So who gets the money??? Not the customers.

      It's a fine, not a lawsuit, so it will go straight to the Government.
      It's one of those things where, on paper, it makes sense, as then our government would use the fine money to implement policy and procedure, and audits to ensure this doesn't happen again, you know, protect their citizens, but we all know that's not what will happen.

    The only reason why they shut down those data-sharing programs is because they got caught.

    You get those ads that are so specific and you know your phone has told companies where you just were. Phone companies for years have been saying that your phone doesn't listen to you talk... it's only a matter of time before we find out they were listening in on us without permission. The lack of privacy is one thing but what I really hate is the gaslighting these companies do. We know our data is being sold and we are blatantly lied to.

      You mean like UA-cam? Put your phone next to a Mexican radio station overnight and bet money you get multiple ads in Spanish within days...

      You know those insurance companies want to purchase your location habits. Drive late at night? Premium increase. Go skiing a lot? Premium increase.

    $200 million is peanuts. Should be fined billions, then they will get the message.

    It’s one of those times where you realize: government of the people by the people for the people is the only defense against big corporations and their “us vs them” mentality.

    So they'll appeal the fines claiming what? That they didn't know? That they weren't selling our location for money? - What's the point of fining them if you aren't going to uphold the judgement and make them pay?

    Turn off the location sharing in your menu, check it often, and remember to do it after every update. Those sneaky updates like to turn it back on sometimes.

    They should have had better contracts in place. Every other company including the government shares your information.

    Wow a slap on the wrist as always, when will we learn that as long as these baby fines continue we will be screwed and screwed again by big corporations. Stuff like this should be charged as a percentage of their yearly revenue for ex T-Mobile earned $14.3B in 2023 fine them 10% ($1.4B) instead of $200m and id bet they'd think twice about their business practices.

  • @valentinrafael9201
    @valentinrafael9201 11 днів тому

    The fines are *totalling* $200M so it's not $200M for each company. AT&T gets fined $57M and their revenue is $122.4B. That fine is ~0.0004% of their 2023 revenue. It's a joke. They can keep on doing it.

    FIguring out you were being a criminal by selling something that was against the law, then, doesn't excuse your mitigation of those criminal acts now, add two more zeros on the fine amount, that's when the share holders will take notice

    Its amazing how a sheriff was involved in obtaining this information from a prison service company. Why would someone who could obtain a legal way to track suspicious people be involved in this??? Real time location has nothing to do with sending ads. The cellphone already pics up on your location to send ads...you have a right to turn this function on and off for yourself. This report is attempting to hide what's really going on in my eyes...

    $200 million is nothing to a company that size. They need to be fined 10 trillion each.
