Agreed! PSA: Battlecruiser is CB. Just like Aircraft Carrier is CV, the designation for battlecruisers is just weird.

Yeah it has fuel smoke, it has SAP secondaries but I feel like a pommern would be the better purchase if you want a secondary BB at T9 or just grind out the new German BB line for free
I got the pommern from a crate and can confirm, especially in a division brawling with that ship is a blast. It helps a lot to have escorts/help, but regardless the 380mm guns aren't as bad as youd expect
@@oddieboi The only thing i hate about the pommern is the hugeass reload time on your main guns, which arent even that accurate. but you get 12 of them so sometimes a cit pops up
A secondary bb sure but Italian AP is strong especially on a 27 sec reload. I did 23k to a Pommern broadside. His secondaries had a hard time doing damage because of Verdi's deck armor. Then 381mm can not open me angled. All he has on me is torps but I just smoke to get him to launch so I can dodge.
i wish WG would allow players to demount upgrades for free for the first 20-50 games on each ship, so you can play around and see what works best on ship X for your play style. the same with Cmdr. skills too. every ship has it's pro's and con's and every player has their own style. most players can't afford to waste gold to demount upgrades and go back and forth trying different combos, nor the CXP/FXP to redo Cmdr skills with the changes to the upgrades. they go hand in hand.

If this thing had improved secondary characteristics, I'd say it was at least fun, and not bad. If it had better secondary characteristics AND better accuracy on the main guns, I'd say it was an amazing ship. But right now it's really "meh." WG has released worse ships, but it isn't good enough to warrant blowing $80 on. Just grind the new German BC line if you want fun secondaries. Italy gets jibbed on another premium yet again. Emilio is really the only good one, and maybe Napoli as well, but even my beer can Roma isn't good, as much as I love playing it anyways. I'm sure you can have fun playing this ship, but you can probably have more fun playing better ships.
This ship is only good to watch other people play it.

I took aiming systems mod 1 for mine, I really wanted to maximize the secondaries but after my first trial the main guns dispersion was so atrocious I needed to improve it a little. Aiming systems mod 1 also helps the secondaries so I felt it was the best of both worlds, I'm happy with how it performs. My secondaries with the signal go out to 9.2km, still respectable I feel.

I’ve seen way too many shells take elevator rides to think this ship is good. Plus while the secondaries look fun and I love secondary builds, Verdi just doesn’t have any improved secondary characteristics to make it worth building into them. It’s not better than we think, it’s just a bad ship that’s very situationally good.
I tried the full secondaries but then put aiming systems into third slot after woeful dispersion at ranges you should be hitting. Lot better accuracy and results focussing on main guns first and secondaries if somebody gets too close.
Great review that does an excellent job of highlighting the characteristics of this ship. If you get the hang of leveraging your smoke and lean into your secondaries, you can get some great results out of this ship. If you play it like a traditional BB and try to use your main guns to carry the day, you’re going to have a miserable time. I enjoy playing her, but I don’t know that I could sincerely call her a good ship.
The secondaries are very strong under the rigth circumstances, but the range is really short, you need a long figth to get some accuracy, and if the enemy angle, or just have strong armour, you will not do very well. Seems like a very situational ship at best!😬
I find that most ships are "situational". This is a good ship, it would be a great ship at tier VIII which is where I would have wanted it but it holds its own in tier IX.

Wondering if it’s worth the money and also if Napoli is worth the coal. Or just buy the verdi and spend the coal on a captain. Any thoughts on the captains / commanders for coal?
Depends on how much you like the faction. Kuznetsov is the best one imo.
They are worth if you play the faction a lot (especially if you have premiums/special ships to swap them around on).
Napoli is a very good cruiser and it has great sap secondaries
I really agree with Trenlass that its poor vertical dispersion is a major pain. To be an excellent ship despite this it would have to be significantly OP in other ways. There is no other factor that will cost you more pens assuming you have big enough guns. It's like a pro sprinter running with a toe fracture; they'll never do quite as well and it will be painful.
Most of the reviewers have not had kind words for this ship. However I agree with your review as I have found the ship quite effective and more importantly, a lot of fun to play. I have spent money on worse things . . .

3:40 - this highlights how bad the ships secondaries are… you did roughly 4000 secondary damage to that Bismarck during that whole section. Meanwhile, he set three fires and did more damage with his tier 8 ship. Imagine if you had the same setup with regular secondaries? It just seems like the sap isn’t good enough to be justified.

I love smoke fuel on italian bb as it gives me a small break when I push and allow me to last a little longer usually, it allows me to send one or 2 volley more before I die. (Wish I had this in bed, but that is another story! ;) ...) When brawling against other secondary ships it give me a small break from their secondary too, while mines are doing their job. However on battleships, it never really saved my ass I feel, I am usually already too commited to be able to break from the fight. I could be playing this ship wrong tho.
I’ve had a blast playing with friends against ai in those scenarios. Play with a shloefen and a crawling smoke dd and alternate smoke. I know it’s ai but I’ve done 850k before lol. Lots of fun. And with the Dd you can just chill at 4-7 km use Dd to spot for the big boys and just farm down everything. Then turn away with smoke and use the big guns.
I'm sorry for the Joseph Green, but after the german BCs with both good primary and secondaries i don't think to spend money on a pure secondary one.

If those secondaries are anything like Napoli then this ship is absolute beast. Napoli secondaries regardless what haters say - WORK and work insanely well even without skills for it in cruiser captains. Heck work better than frigging Pommern secondaries - I melted DDs literally not even chosing them as my secondary targets while I was shooting other way around.And by melted I mean in 10-15 seconds lol. Thats how sick damage is.
Theres a difference,Napoli secondaries are alot more accurate and even then,almost nobody goes full secondary napoli .
a very oblique ship, sometimes there are fights when it hits, but mostly all shots into the sky
I actually love this ship and the Marco polo. I use Verdi for this ranked season. I guess I just really like the Italian bb line so I know how to use it. For your average player who has not grinded through and mastered the Italian bb line I would not recommend either ship. Verdi's secondaries are the bess Italian bb secondaries but nothing close to German and American ones. They are very useful on cruisers and dds but only good against BBs at range. The dispersion on the main guns is bad if you never touched an Italian ship and good if you have. I'd say the Verdi has the same despersion as an American dreadnought. While the Marco polo has the North Carolina's dispersion. Which can be frustrating if you don't know how to play the ship. But having a DD on your butt ready to suicide torp you so you smoke up while your secondaries hammer him is a great feeling. Italian AP tho on all ships is like an American AP shell with extra gunpowder. The pens you can get are insane. Only drawback is if you see a cruiser you have to use HE (Verdi) or SAP (Marco polo) because Italian AP overpens them. Even on some heavy cruisers, minus Alaska, Puerto Rico, Stalingrad, and sigfried.they also have great armor including deck armor making it difficult to HE spam. That with the manuverability of the French bb line makes it really fun to play. I would recommend if you do get this ship to have a 14 point captain. To get concealment and secondary targeting.
I really feel like it needs better secondary accuracy and range, it just seems so lack luster. Maybe im being too harsh after playing a ton of the german BC’s, but it just seems like a worse marco polo, and marco polo is already eh

No doubt WG planed this all along, introduce main line , then after saturation introduce premiums w SAP secondaries ie: GV and Napoli= Sell like hotcakes, then mostly regret purchase as it's soooo very overpriced well I haven't seen many GV but tis young
well napoli is for coal too at least. just got napoli with a coupon for coal and I'm having a blast in it. I'd never spend money on it though. for coal it's a lot of fun but I can't see it being worth doubloons. Even less this ship, though I'm kinda happy you can't waste coal on it.

@@chriscannon4262 yeah but I think most people get it for coal. at least if they listen to what other people say. a fantastic coal ship but not worth spending doubloons on. Still probably my favorite cruiser right now.
Got 2 games with her so far, in a full secondaries build, and I prefer her over Pommern for Brawling, even with the lack of torpedoes.
Dont be afraid of your builds, as long as they work. Well, that's my standard secondary build. Why? Coz a Well timed heal and dmg con help me more then -10% fire Chance and one less fire stop thats not going to be lit when I'm Charging at someon only presenting 2 spots. Why? I'm not sitting bow in and start tanking, I am actively dodging and useing islands as cover.
Bout to buy this ship. It looks fun but gets a bad wrap because it's not the new brainless meta snoozfest. Thanks for the video.

I'm running a hybrid build, the secondaries are good but the main battery is a total shotgun so I took aiming systems mod 1 to help the dispersion a little, and I focused my commander skills on the secondaries. I've been happy so far with it.

prob is you can't upgrade the SAP secondaries to pen 32mm like you could with HE secondaries... lets not kid ourselves these secondaries are not for use v bb... possibly at range HE might be a better option for the main guns as they are apparently good at destroying modules.
It has only 70k health with mediocre armor. It has over 14km concealment when built for concealment, but only 10km secondary range when built for secondaries, so you have to take some punishment before you can get to use them. And for those saying that it has a smoke consumable, the smoke consumable has a 3 minute reload. That's 9 minutes of time spent waiting for your smokes to reload if you wanna use them all, assuming you'd be spamming them which in most cases you won't be. So you'd probably spend 3/4 of the game just waiting for them to reload. The smoke is not reliable and I'd just go for Pommern for the better armor and longer secondary range.

"...Fuel smoke allows me to go dark..." literally for like a second, before it expended and the bismark was in spotting distance the whole time.
The rest of the time is spent early on crushing the weakest flank without anyone focusing the ship. The final half of damage was from the yolo rush at the bulk of the remaining enemy team.
It feels like any other BB could've done just as well in this position. The fuel smoke in my view was even a detriment, since the enemy focused down other teammates in the times Verde was dark. Once the Bismark went down, he was shooting at range for a while, the enemy team basically ignored him with how little effect the guns had. The only time the secondaries did 'good' work was on that shimakaze, but he'd completely whiffed all 3 torp launches, so dubious even then. If he'd chosen to bow in charge to close range, the normal accuracy on them probably would've let him dev strike you
i still think all IT BB's need more offense against DD.s , they can then keep this ship at 10% because of SAP Secondaries and Buff all other IT bb's Sap to 20% on DD.
Best would of been sap secondaries for all BB's ofc , but now this ship seems better than marco in most ways , and HE is better imho as SAP is useless vs DD's
No, just no. We already have thunderer and conqueror with 30% on 8k shells. 20% on a 13k shell is hell when you have 16 guns

Oh god, I was the Mass B in this. I mispositioned so badly that I ended up getting double cit by Musashi to ~1k hp, and then just rage quit after that because I realized who I was playing with.

Maybe a Unicorn player can make something out of this pile of trash. Problem is: no normal player can. If you get matched up with that garbage ship in your team, you're good for a heavy carry, if there is a second bad player in the team it's an almost guaranteed defeat

Then went back into randoms and worked a schlieffen with my Napoli one vs one on desert map. This thing is a trap and port queen, lol. Don't be too upset you got suckered to buy one when they just upped the sigma on that other pos Marco stinko last week from old 1.7 to 1.9 lol. Roma, Lepanto and CC are way better ships, I have all of them. From panzer, trenlass, flamu, flmabass everyone who has any skill knows that this ship is a trap for whale who have no skill, maybe its YOU who can't play. You're right. Secondary accuracy is all that matters, which is why I love my secondary pensacola. That thing absolutely shreds.
For coal I would buy this ship. For anything requiring real money definitely no. Weegee doesn't care about balance making the game go down hill in fun. Between cv rework, economic rework, and now subs that are never seen. If there is no counter play to an enemy it is not fun.
When more and more people (not the super unicums right now) buy this ship it will fall very shortly into the utter miserable section in Wows-numbers. If you really want an Italian BB get the Marco Polo instead of this turd, or better skip both and play actually useful ships.
Starting to have a feeling that with the huge amount of premiums already in the game WG has no idea what gimmick should they use anymore or how to make proper ships.
Why would you want the Marco Polo instead of this ship? The only thing the Marco has that this ship doesn't is SAP shells for the main battery (which aren't that impressive) at a cost of 5 seconds more on the main battery reload time. Is this the best ship? No, but it is a good ship and is far from a "turd".
