One thing you should try: If you make chloroplast strips, say 2-3 inches wide; you can then slide wire(about the same size as coat hanger) down into one or more of the square openings. If you slightly make sinusoidal bends in the wire, it holds in place by friction. The wire stiffens the strips a lot!!! I made up a tailbox using these strips in an open basket weave. Where the two strips crossed, I used a pencil soldering iron melting holes through each strip. I then used a zip tie holding both strips together. When my basket shape was done, I covered the outside with heat shrinkable plastic. Using a heat gun, I shrunk the plastic down onto the basket. The structure sounded like a drum!!! To hold the heat shrink plastic, top and bottom, I wrapped it around a 1 inch strip of chloroplast and zip tied the strip down, and then applied the heat. You can also make structural shapes( like "Ls" and "Ts" and "Is") using chloroplast strips in right angle directions coupled with wire reinforcing. Food for thought... - Bob
I finished my first cargo bike build last week. I love it!!! It came out wonderful. Creators like you and others were my inspiration, I am forever grateful sir. Thank you as always for sharing this and all your content
One hundred and five gears !!!!!!!!! What a choice. I thought 37 was decadent. Your travel setup is amazing. Incredible what a bit of ingenuity can make use of.
I'll remember the 'Heet' cooker. It's very light, and easy to make.I've been thinking about the camper for a couple years now,and plan on building one similar. Thanks again for the ideas and designs.Happy Trails.
You never fail to keep me inspired to follow my crazy dream projects. Currently working on a camper to pull behind my 170cc scooter. Also working on a bayou backwater camper boat. Just looking to travel light and cheap. Don’t want $5/gallon gas to hold me back.
It’s seen as expensive compared to years in the past. I can recall gas being a bit more than thirty cents a gallon, when I was in junior high. (1972-3) It *IS* cheap compared to many places in Europe, however.
I agree that gas in the US is cheap. When you compare gas prices to gold prices the petroleum industry has absolutely worked miracles in their development. Oil and natural gas is by far the cheapest energy on the planet. Solar and wind have their place and so does nuclear. Each should be developed to its highest potential free from controlling politics. The free market will regulate each of these industries without the need for political interference.
A few years ago you inspired me to build a small teardrop camper I could pull behind my bicycle or motorcycle. Ended up selling it. Had fun with it though. I love your videos and original ideas.
I really like the bike and camper ste up Paul it proves one thing never grow up never act your age and always have fun doing what you love lol. Have a great day Choppersrule1
Hello, well, some interesting rigs you've built. In 2019, I converted my Sun Sport 2 wheeled recumbent into an Ebike. Using a hub motor in the front wheel. It sure has changed my life. Since August 2019, I've put a bit over 12,000 miles on the rig. And even though I do not have a camper trailer, yet. I do often pull a trailer. You've given me some idea's, on a camper I can pull behind my bike. Now I just need money to build it. Take care and stay safe.
Pretty cool! Gives me some ideas for the ebike I am building. Only problem with ebikes is the battery cost. In Canada it is going to cost about 500 bucks for a decent one. Have tried ordering ones through EBay and Alliexpress and sellers have tried to rip me off 3 times . I gave up on those scam platforms or whatever you want to call them. I guess I will need to order from a Canadian company but is going to cost me dearly. I like the idea of a seat with a backrest, Is great! My back has had it without going into detail about. So have my knees. I want to get back into biking but my body has seen better days. My bike is almost built. I have the hub motor ,controller, throttle etc. But just need a high capacity 52 volt battery that can do 1000 watts. Thanks for sharing and giving me some ideas for my project.
Try cotton balls... Not even a whole one... Spread out and any cooking oil for fuel.... The tea candle bases are perfect size but eventually burn... Soda can bottoms work better... Glass dab containers are best .. don't let the oil burn or get moisture in it... As you cook and lift to regulate temperature it's easy to use ab eyedropper bottle to keep it going... For heating for hours a diaphram made of a stretched plastic pen tube and or vice grips and a mini bottle can keep you warm for hours at a stretch... Just use a feed ramp of aluminum can to keep your res. Out of direct flame and heat ...temps reach 700+degrees .. be wary of excess oil dripping and containment devices being hot enough to smoke and ignite....
My current protype consists of a tin coffee can... Fitted with 3 smashed to fit soup cans .. filled with red bull can sized can bases for "burners" ... This could make a contained unit for a potstand/ skillet but I've yet to add holes around the rim for air.... This setup keeps any missed drops and boil_over in a cooler region of the device... The very bottom barely ever gets too hot to hold..or over 150° and cools within seconds as the rest of the device functions nary like an aluminum electronics heat sink...
I really like the Trangia alcohol burner. That "yellow bottle HEET" is methanol, so try not to touch it with your skin. Otherwise, yellow heet works great.
If you go downhill starting out, then you can go without starting the engine and use gravity to go like you did in the beginning of the video, but then just before you see that you are near the bottom of the hill turn the ignition on and just engage the belt to the motor, and it should start. No need to stop and pull start it in that case. I love your inventions, thank you.
I'm a fan of the Swedish Trangia spirit burners myself. I run mine off of the same Heet fuel and get no soot whatsoever. They're very affordable, around 20-25 bucks or so. Modern ones will come with a "simmer ring", basically a special cap with a hinged plate on it, that allows you to dial down the heat if necessary. It's also got a screwcap with a thick rubber o-ring on the inside that allows you to store unused fuel inside the burner.
This is something I wanted to seee on UA-cam for long time but Peter Pan kept saying it didn't exist. Peter Pan can go take a backwards jog in the park blindfolded, cause Paul Elkins made it exist! BOOM this is a sick build - too dope, man. I like this
The "stand" for your tekoba stove is ingenious with the 4 screws and 2x4. I've worked on ALL sorts of small stands out of lightweight gear for the nicer ones I've built and always overcomplicate. ha!
I'm working on a camper. Wind tore it up during construction so I shelved it for over a year now but I'll repair the tear with zip ties and duct tape soon and get back to it since I was lucky enough to find a Thule stroller curbside for free to build my chassis with. I've been playing around with alcohol stoves too. Avoid the red HEET, people, it burns sooty. Yellow HEET burns clean.
He's a smart guy who just taught millions of impressionable minds to burn isopropal alcahol in an enclosed space which is absolutely deadly. If you go to sleep, which it makes you do, you better have led a good life. The video appears excellent, but at least one life will be lost. Pull the video. Don Blank3nship, aeronatical engineer.
Me too, but I wanted a pedal assisted bike. All the guts were there, and riding the old rig around was pretty illegal. Not sure if I'll do a trip with this. I'm playing with another camper idea.
Looking to build a bike camper. I love your vids! Could you do a short vid maybe on safety concerns. Like what you think about width and length pros and cons. My concern being a big guy, I would need a 30" bed. Also any road traveling experiences on public roads, wrecks, close calls exedra and wind turbulence from trucks and so forth. Thanks
love this so much. My idea is a bicycle RV camper with a truck bed. It would utilize a regular trike 26 inch wheel bicycle, zip tie enclosed with PVC pipe for skeleton and mattress sheet of plastic as skin. I also imagine the sheet of mattress plastic would act like an inner and an outer skin to then add spray foam for insulation.
This is crazy ever since I saw your first bicycle camper video years ago I’ve been wanting to put an engine on a bike with it I was Thinking a full-size tricycle with a harbor freight 212 engine but as you stated with the laws it seems I need something smaller
I really love this concept and I love this video again I think it's amazing all the things you make out of coroplast. I need to see how to get some free coroplast in my area from my local government through our city officials and see if I can get creative
If you tweak the soda can stove, you can easily get that boiling time down to around 4:30. Your stove is taller than necessary, which is convenient for cooking 30+ minutes but not necessary for quicker things like spaghetti.
With all our high tech now a days, a 49cc ultra efficient motor powering an electric 21 speed bicycle would be ideal... You can pedal it, or drive it on the electric power, plug into any outlet for recharge, or start up the mini gas engine to recharge and drive it at the same time. Sell those ready built, and also sell the camper prebuilt, and you can get more people into biking and bike - camping too... The camper needs a lock on the inside and outside too, and be a nice hard shell plastic form with it's own solar panel and USB 3.0 power supply and battery, to use lights, radios, laptops, phones, and internet devices.
I've often thought about taking one of my 2 stroke motorized bicycles on a road trip and one of those campers would be kinda fun to tow. My engine's aren't stock so I think it would pull one easily
I can see adding a electric front hub for better hill climbing and quiet town cruising. Not to dyi and would cost twice as much as the project is. Hoverboard motor and controller?
Another excellent build, Paul. How well do you find paint sticks to the coroplast? Any problem with rub-off? And, have you ever found a good adhesive for coroplast?
You can scuff it with 600 grit equivalent 'scotch-brite' pads first, and clean it with glass cleaner.(really)Then I use 2x 'Rustoleum Primer and Paint'.If you test an area and that hasn't held, Rustoleum Adhesion Promoter is even recommended for car plastics.I haven't had to use it yet.
I can easily believe that Briggs 2 hp is still running , i have a few that are even older , they just keep going , such a shame Briggs and Stratton went out of business .
Not sure what you mean, but have tried friction drive. They don't work well in the rain. Like your old VW bug. Sold my 62 a while back . I miss that clunker.
A nice idea I have is Amazon has a portable battery station with built in outlets and the power station comes with solar panels that you could attach on top
Love your builds! Question: Do you think it would it be beneficial at all to put silicone in the open holes at the end of coroplast for insulation, so air cannot get in?
have you tried a little Rocket Stove? I've even seen some collapsible ones and wood is a free resource. Also, what about putting your stove on a swivel/hinge to allow outdoor cooking on dry days? Negates excess heat and fumes on hot days
I was thinking about putting a motor on the trailer, to help it go down the road, basically the trailer has the power to carry it's self, then a small engine on the bike , my scooter is 81cc makes about 5hp, but that Briggs probably makes more TQ than my scooter, and constantly running at 8500-9500 rpm, my scooter isn't going to last as long! Plus you can work on the Briggs and easily get around 5 HP from it, 4-5hp anyway, nice!!
Why would you want to haul that much weight? My bicycle tent trailer weighs about 30 or 40 pounds. If it is windy I can fold the tent down flat to reduce wind drag. With an ebike I get over 80 Km, probably closer to 100Km without trailer. With trailer I expect about 80Km per charge. Being much lighter it is not that bad to just pedal up hills. For steep hills pedal assist gets me over them quite easily.
In Ohio 49cc means you need lights, plates and insurance according to the corporate law. It would need to be inspected by the BMV or it would be impounded. Out in the countryside you can get a little further, but in northeast Ohio you'd lose this toy. Been there done that.
Thanks for that. I'm aware of the headlight/brake light necessity but failed in mentioning that in this video. Every state has their own interpretation of these unconventional in the middle vehicles; are they a motorized bike or a true moped? I realize pedaling gets you away from all this, but for someone like me who has bad knees, well, we're at the mercy of the officer who pulls you over. There are the officers who look at the 'intent' of the law and those who go by the 'letter' of the law. Much easier to do the latter, but lazy and unfair.
@@paulwelkinsdiy I know it sounds funny, but I wanted to drop cc to go with a model engine. Some model engines like a four stroke four cylinder has ample power, looks fancy and is below the cc limit. I was considering a small block Chevy model engine, low enough in cc to not register, but with different accessories they can be quite powerful. Odd resolution to the cc issue, but potentially a winner. Imagine an officer trying to get you in trouble over a supercharged smallblock Chev like 16cc.somengas powered model cars can achieve speeds over a hundred miles an hour, certainly faster then a bicycle cruiser needs to go, so there's enough power there..

I think I going to build one for my little 4 cylinder car just in case
Agreed.
Noo they should be watching my channel 😂
Been watching your channel for years now. Ever since the canoe build . I lost my best friend too. Strange how this popped up. Love your work man
Paul,I just love your channel! Blessings 🙏
You are Kool. Wish I had time to tinker around with those kinds of projects. Keep doing what's you're doing. I'm inspired.
I like your use of lightweight materials. Excellent job all around.
Looks great. I am working on building an electric velomobile and doing a redo of my camper this summer. Hope to see more bike camper in the future!
Paul, this version of the camper is great, man! Greetings from Argentina, a big hug, many successes!
A few years ago you inspired me to build a small teardrop camper I could pull behind my bicycle or motorcycle. Ended up selling it. Had fun with it though. I love your videos and original ideas.
I checked out your channel Gabe. Love the RC cockpit with working controls. VERY clever! You should get more hits.
Thanks for checking it out Paul!
Ty for these video when you leave us you will have left us these videos that will teach people for years to come
Ingenious! Thanks for the video Paul!
I bet your wife sometimes thinks she's got a grown kid that just had to much fun. 😂
Always see the world through the eyes of a child, seeing opportunities instead of problems, be at awe at everything the day gives you
Glad to see another cool project from you!

Good video bro nice build keep up the good work
Love it elkins
