I already liked Malzeno a lot, but Primordial totally blew me away. Such a fast paced but fair fight. It really feels like the perfect fight against our hunters enhanced moveset. Such a great end to such a great game.
I don't know what I was expecting from Primordial, especially since the website said he didn't have the Qurio. But giving him all these unique attacks made him so much better. Overall I think Sunbreak did a really good job with variants in general, like with Scorned Magna or the Risen Dragons.
You then realize, the Malzeno we've been fighting all this time was an afflicted, yet nerfed, version that pailed in comparison to what it once was. And not only did it have an afflicted form, it also tapped into its Risen form, and we a glimpse of hiw one was able to fight Gaismagorm to a stand still.
I think you are kinda downplaying base malzeno's fight here tbh. The stab: The stab sure may not seem like a big or cool move but it is a very straightforward nice easy to dodge move with a good telegraph and a nice window for attack. The tail attacks: Are very interesting and even more so than velkhana, the way he front flip to tail stab or back tail poke, the tail side flip he does, the claw wipe to tail spin were all more insteresting than [velkhana's tail poke, velkhana tail air poke, velkhana tail scratch]. Tbh most of velkhana cool moves came from her ice breath as her tail attacks compared to malz not really that great she was just the firt elder to use tail pokes that's about it. The qurio attacks: He gives the qurio a ball of dragon to carry to the hunter, while I agree he could do more with them the two we got were quite cool. the homing ones and the three split ones. The combos, malzeno fight is kinda like how old world rajang was he does something you do something back he does another thing you do another thing back like this dance between two people, if you dont see it in that way I can understand why you wont enjoy the battle. And a lot of times in iceborne some monsters never really had downtime with only like 3 openings to attacks whereas malzeno has a lot of downtime with his attacks and combos which is similar to old world combat. The bloodening turns everything up to eleven, he get faster he doubles up he combos from bite to teleports to other attacks the teleport is too cool to ignore, and tbf the supermove was a different take from the oversaturated ultimate the every monster in rise and world loved to do that was nukes I dunno how to make you feel it but he just feels good to fight especially when reminiscing 4u and gu fights
It's still insane how the devs actually designed Malzeno to move faster than the human eye can register. Not just a simple teleport, but LITERALLY moving faster than our eye can see
I know that leaks are not usually talked about, but when the data mining of this Malzeno came out, I was impressed. The only thing we could see was that it had 55 new attacks and we were all wondering how the hell a variant was going to have so many changes. In the end the result was really fantastic, with the Hazzard version having the longest combo of all MH being 18 hits in a row.
I saw some of the datamines too. A lot of it did end up being accurate since he does have a unique walking animation (when near death), 4 phases, unique death animation (when repelled) etc
I like how the stronger Qurio attacks are basically Primordial trying to get rid of as many Qurio as possible he's basically trying to cull their numbers by overusing them
Another thing to note is that Primordial Malzeno becomes full-on immune to ALL endemic life in his final phase. Marionettes, Ironsilk, Flash Bombs, Toads, everything the hunters have becomes so used to using becomes useless against Primordial's last stand. Along with looking genuinely demonic, he hits EVEN HARDER, every attack in his last phase is a near one-shot, where his tail-swipe attack is a full-on one-shot.
Great video but in my opinion malzeno being kinda mid was actually perfect bc it showed how much weaker and lazier it was to primordial. Cuz if you think abt it, Malzeno is a lazy vampire dragon that uses parasites to hunt for it, so it probably has forgotten how to fight properly. Meanwhile, Primordial is already pretty strong but during the fight, it is being attacked by the qurio and the hunter so it has a sense of desperation cuz it’s trying to survive
I did find regular Malzeno's fight to be fun, but that just means Primordial's is even better. -Primordial is definitely more of a Lance than an SnS user, considering he lifts the Shield Charge and Insta-Block counter straight out of the moveset. But he also has the double wing slash, which resembles an old dash attack the Dual Blades used to have. -You neglected to mention, but depicted in the video that Primordial actually teleports toward whoever he's targeted when using the big final explosion of his super nuke attack. Most nuke attacks just has the monster staying right where they are when they perform the final blast - even Risen Shagaru. This catches a lot of people off guard. -Overall, regular Malzeno is one that the Qurio have been draining for a long time, and one that has become addicted on them, if you will. He even looks a bit like a long-time drug addict - he's emaciated and pale, almost skeletal in places. Primordial's Qurio-empowered state, on the other hand, is so crazy because he still has all of his old strength. It even shows in their death animations - the Qurio fly away from regular Malzeno, as if they're done with him, but the ones attached to Primordial actually die along with him - they REALLY wanted to have him as a host.
Another thing that's great about P.Malzeno is the amazing character development ( I heard these a lot, but I maybe wrong ) The Malzeno we fought in base Sunbreak is once a P.Malzeno, that defended the Citadel region against Gaismagrom, and eventually defeated it But in a twist of fate, the Quiros corrupted him, resulting it becoming the one we know of Base Malzeno is the destroyer of the kingdom, while P.Malzeno is the protector of the kingdom. Both polarizing characters can be the same monster
I think that some people don't understand what primordial malzeno story qwest actually implys malzeno never maked the choice to form a symbolic relationship with the qurios it was forced on him also I don't think malzeno leads the qurios the qurios lead him around they decide where to go and what to do as a example after the lunagaron qwest I though malzeno wanted lunagaron body for a meal and sended the qurios do it for him but now I think malzeno was just there to protect the qurios while they where eating/drinking so malzeno is actually a very tragic monster
@@HeavyWings Haven't really thought about it, don't think there's one I dislike (though you said least favorite), but if I had to pick it'd probably be Velk. I'd say Magna had the least "presence" but I enjoyed his fight enough (with Bow anyway) and Scorned REALLY help as well but with Velk I didn't enjoy the fight as much personally (though I still liked it). It probably would have benefited a lot from a Variant or something.
I feel like the Devs were originally going to make Primordial a MR 200 fight but swapped it to 10 for either 1. They knew people werent a fan of content past MR100 and decided to make it MR 10 so everyone could enjoy the fight at once 2. They made it MR 10 to trick people into thinking he would be wasy and not deal alot of damage (this is what happened to me, so glad he 2-3 shots in maxed out augmented armor)
He was already in my favorites of the 5th gen flagships but Primordial really shot him to number 1. Velkhana funnily enough though was always my least favorite, so Primordial dunking on her in their turf war was hilarious.
Prims Wings aren't really bigger then that of his Vampire Cousin. The biggest Difference is simply the Fact that the Vampire Boy can't use the full range of the WIngs and only uses the Thumbclaw of it.
I only watched about half the video and there’s a bit of stuff he didn’t go over which likely he went over with the primordial part but the reasoning that the normal Malzeno we first fight is so slow could be excused as the Malzeno not actually being in control. It is said the swarm makes a ‘symbiosis’ with the monsters but in reality, what the swarm does ISNT a symbiosis. They’re full on parasites that are seeking a host to use as a defense mechanism for them all. When the primordial previously faced Gaismagorm he was actually able to repel it however Gaismagorm used the swarm to take that Malzeno under their control. It’s purely a forced take over that Gaismagorm used to keep the primordial away and in turn caused him to have a small evolution to remove the ‘armor’ and be more slim. Which adds onto why the normal Malzeno (or in this case Corrupted Malzeno’s) attacks feel not as heavy, it’s also meant to replicate a vampire or Dracula sense they weren’t all that bulky. Malzeno is rather frail and is forced to rely on the swarm itself to survive now due to the years of exposure to boot. (The original primordial vs Gaismagorm fight happen back during the first rampage about 50 years ago in game.) But to the point, the normal Malzenos whole thing seemed planned to begin with, having the vampiric one be frail but also have it be like a chaotic situation once you realize how fucked up it is while the primordial one is the real hero but in return you’re fucking up in fighting it but also it’s a good thing sense you fighting it restricted the swarm from the take over due to when primordial enters his big Qurio mode (it’s actual name being the blood lust mode) it’s him letting the qurios in seemingly on accident and he was forced into the qurios hands but as we fight we knock him out of it and he goes back to how he was before. If we weren’t there, primordial would of suffered heavily like the original one
I was already a fan of Malzeno when it was introduced. I loved the concept, his design and its theme is my favorite in Sunbreak. Primordial blows regular Malzeno out the water and is better in every way, in opinion. Easily one of my favorite elder dragons alongside Valtrax and Crimson Glow.
See, most of what you find wrong with Malzeno is what I find wrong with Velkhana. Attacks that don't feel dangerous, derivative abilities, though for me I also find the visual design and monster's theme to be uninteresting as well. Ice monsters before and after it have all been far more creative with how they use Ice than just "It's basic ice armor and ice beams again and the lamest and most flimsy-teeling weapon for a body part of any monster". Great Izuchi animates as though it puts more effort into its tail attacks than Velkhana, as does Malzeno whose tail feels much more weighty imo. Malzeno I find the best of 5th gen's flagships. A unique and creative design that doesn't feel downplayed like Nergigante, uninspired like Velkhana or overdone like Magnamalo, a fast-paced fight with interesting and powerful-feeling attacks that also become much faster as the fight progresses, and an excellent theme. Magnamalo had been better than the first two this gen for me; but the visual design of the monster has always been a little overdone. Malzeno finally hit the sweetspot again. Primordial is absolutely still an improvement. Easy to make a monster far better by giving it attacks that are reminiscent of Glavenus, the one true god, on top of, well, everything everything else.
I think what makes Malzeno better is knowing the whole deal with the devil vampire background behind it and how faithful he is to that. I never had any strong opinions on base mal because he’s not exactly the best but he isn’t bad at all. Primordial is easily the best monster this franchise has ever produced and honestly? Y’all can fight me if you disagree. Name ONE monster that feels as difficult as primal while feeling fair as hell.
Ok not to be rude or judge mental but gaismagorm yes having the same body structure of gore, it doesn’t even have wings…that’s what it makes it different it isn’t a elder dragon with 4 legs and 2 wings the fact that it has arms instead of wings sets it apart from the rest of the elders, and it even emphasizes that more with vestigial hind legs which serves a point more that it’s different Malzeno’s wings are very imposing as not a lot of monsters in general even use their wings for combat, and gore and shagaru’s wings are very much more arm like being practically arms and less of wings and valstrax are literally jet engines which clearly can be used for combat So Malzeno is rather different compared to other elders but not too extremely different enough so it fits in decently
I don't really see much to dislike about base Malzeno, its a very pretty Elder Dragon and I love its vampire theme. I guess maybe its gameplay isnt too threatening compared to Nergigante in Base World after a certain point, like we can consider it a common Elder level but not the most threatening, pretty much Velkhana but less annoying with its poking and freezing tactics. And Primordial is just a supreme redesign showing its state before it evolved with Qurio, very ruthless fight though in my experience it was just as much a nightmare as Ruiner Nergigante though maybe moreso cause relying on a Fulur Anjanath hammer was able to turn the tide, meanwhile at Prime Mal i feel like there was an immense amount of luck and chance especially needing mutiplayer
While hard, i loved the fight. The Quiro suddenly appearing midfight, trying to control Malzeno, and somewhat succeeding in that, to Malzeno trying to fight them back, giving us a small window to attack. Lore wise and gameplay wise i absolutely loved that fight.

Honestly you could've just cut to a commentary-less clip of him doing a full final phase combo and it would've more than spoke for itself. Love that you pointed out the design elements behind the render, I didn't notice it before watching. I also never made the connection between his shield-wing -> tail stab combo and the lance shield hop -> stab combo, very cool!
Palzeno is my favorite fight in MH. Not just mechanically, which he succeeds in, but narratively, as you're saving him and his hunt is a minute of a character arc for Fiorayne. It's the perfect end to Sunbreak. I never hated Rise like most players do, but when Sunbreak came to answer their pleas I knew it'd be amazing, and Palzeno is it.
Malzeno was my favorite monster before I knew Primordial would exist. There was competition from Magnamalo at first, but Primordial solidified Malzeno as my favorite, since I just consider all versions of a monster as one unit. The music, fight, and story really came together for me, and PriMal took all of that and upped it into orbit aside from sadly not getting its own music.
When Primordial did this 15:13, I screamed because I already love SnS and just about all things knight aesthetic. I thought the attack was over after the wing/shield dash but nope. Such a great story telling hunt and one of my all time faves
Primordial has been the only monster to triple cart me more than once. It’s responsible for 4 of my 6 triple carts in the game. Beat it twice but man it’s a tough, fair, and fun fight
we know that at least 1 fought and repelled gaismagorm, presumably weakened enough during the fight that it couldn't resist the qurio and so they formed their relationship with it, cutting off gaismagorm from them as they had a new favored host so it's recovery was slowed, as it's body weakened being able to use the qurio to make up for that makes sense, spending little energy when they can do it for him. i guess like the symbiotes in marvel feeding on the host but then giving them benefits if the host can keep them fed. like as malzeno is technically the variant and primordial is the base species i wonder just how many qurio infected malzeno there are meant to be, like sure the original was infected after facing gaismagorm, but i wonder if it then went on to infect it's own kind when the quiro drove it mad and it went into that bloodlust state, infecting multiple and making them qurio vampires like itself, spreading from there. all those malzeno being host to a bunch of qurio keeping gaismagorm starved.
The shield and stab combo is a cool design but combat-wise it may be the most annoying attack to deal with and has improving space. The ideal way to dodge this attack should be roll backward followed by moving into the opposite side against the tail stabbing so you can attack it in a safe postion. The problem is that the size of the monster greatly affect the hitbox of the first shield rushing attack. For a large size P.Malzeno there is no way for you to dodge the attack by rolling backward unless you use GP/counter or have the evade window/extender skill. I think a good attack design should grant player a chance to avoid it by positioning themselves in a right place without using any armor skills (that most of the attack from P.Malzeno is able to achieve this point) but I find this is the only attack that is quite frustrating to deal with.
I feel like the best version of it is his second (and third) fase from primordial, it combines both the sick movements from primordial and the elegancy of regular with the qurio cravat and abilities. Also, regular malzenos reminds me of Grimm from hollow knight
19:26 There's a nice detail on this ground attack. Just like you said, it's wings changed a lot and the edges resemble claws which Malzeno can use to throw rocks. As always, good analysis. Your work never disappoints me.
Man you have pretty much nailed my thoughts on Malzeno (besides the design, I was hoping it could be like Magnamalo where it was an enjoyable fight despite my hatred of the design but that didn't happen). Malzeno has always been the least interesting 5th flagship to fight (at least in their debut game, rip Sunbreak Velkhana), and Primordial took literally everything I disliked about Malzeno and took a complete 180 with it. Even made me appreciate the design of the base monster slightly more with the comparison of how lithe it is now compared to he more robust Primordial.
It’s funny I was only able to fight primordial recently since I play on console but overall I find this monster incredibly satisfying, the design changes were great (even if I think base malzenos had a lot more character) and the fight was incredibly fun yet challenging, but honestly I think it’s tied with the base form as my second favorite monster and favorite 5th gen flagship
So the only complaints is -an original theme (even though there hasn’t been a new theme for a variant) -more shield bash combos (which fair enough) - And the MR cap (which is a knit pick) Edit; BLOOD BATH IS NOT THE BEST FLAG SHIP HELL HE ISNT EVEN TOP 5
Chaotic Gore, Allmother and White Fatalis have unique themes, so Primordial getting one wouldn't have been unprecedented. I don't mind too much though because base Malzeno's theme was so good.
You suggested that accepting the Qurio may have been a bad move because it made Malzeno weaker. But maybe non-primordial Melzenos just aren't strong enough to begin with, and thus couldn't resist the Qurio. IT not being a decision to accept them, but there not being an alternative.
I like base malzeno fine but primordial is, both cannonically and in my mind, true malzeno. While I wouldn't be upset to see base malzeno again I dont think I'd much care of he was left out of future monster hunter games, but it would be a crying shame if we never saw primordial again. He has in my opinion, the single most fun fight in the whole series.

Edit: a thing that I also would have liked regarding this is having a new theme while it was in the regular form, but then shifting to the classic Malzeno theme when Primordial Malzeno gets infected by the Qurio.
I hadn't heard it previously but it's pretty good! I dunno if it would fit as a battle theme, it doesn't mesh well with the rest of Sunbreak's ost. But still good!
I really like Malzeno and I like primordial too I just wish they gave him a unique theme. Something that popped to my head is how I wish the elder trio would be mixed up a bit since usually there aren't many elder dragons in a game besides them. can you imagine if for example Velkhana replaced Kushala in a future game or something?
I think bringing in one of Frontier's elders into the Trio would be nice, or maybe you fight a Frontier Elder Dragon as an Urgent before or after the normal Elder trio like Rukodiora or Harudomerugu (maybe the former before the trio and the latter after them)
On that note, maybe starts bringing back another monsters (or frontier ones) instead of using overstayed monsters (or flagships) like narga, zinogre, tigrex, kushala, teo, heck even rajang
@@alderwield9636 I don't mind them being here but I don't want to wait 4-5 years to see elders like nergigante, malzeno, namielle etc... come back. if MH6 wants to be really big I feel like they should be in to give the elder saga more weight since currently it's just the normal trio in every game.

Honestly i feel like the criticism about the difficulty is a bit too subjective. While it's true that Risen Shaggy is one of the toughtest monsters of the game, i have NEVER triple carted to him, meanwhile both Risen Valstrax and Primalzeno have done that to me multiple times. I feel like these three are made to be relative to each other, so at the end of the day it really only comes down to your own personal experience and playstyle
If I were to teleport like that it would be cool but I will need to wear a flame resistant suit because if you were to be able to run at sonic speed eventually you will start to burn to the amount of friction is running through your body the more friction means more shit more heat more flames but It would be cool I could just easily carry a physical attack and then just place it back or actually retaliate so in someway I’d be using an Uno reverse card lol
While I understand the criticism that primordial malz should've been MR200, at the same time I'm glad they placed him at MR10. I've really only just now gotten into monster hunter with rise basically being my first game, and I played for around 30 hours upon pc launch but then put the game down until about a month ago. Since then I've clocked in around 210 hours total, but despite that I'm not even MR100 yet (i'm currently sitting on like MR85 or so). In all honesty, if prim malz was at MR200, there's a very good chance I would've put down the game before I have an opportunity to actually fight him, which would've been a shame because I'm confident in saying that prim malz is my favorite fight in the game, at least so far from what I've personally experienced.
Malzeno was a very difficult elder dragon when got to him but I killed him first try it took a while to kill because of my bad weapon and I killed hazard primordial malzeno first try
@@woah571 Gore Magala also returned in both GU and Sunbreak with the Frenzy Virus, but the Frenzied Monsters didn't return in neither. They don't have to make Afflicted Monsters return in Wilds, but they still can still bring back the Qurios and Bloodblight for Malzenos fight.

You have a problem with you're Main line Monsters tier list. Gore Magala Inst in S Tier and neither is seregios. Therefore this list is WRONG!!! also... Really you have tigrex and Brachadios in B tier? and Nergigante in A tier? and GLAVENUS!?. ohh nah..... something is wrong here.
Wait... is Primordial Malzeno a Malzeno BEFORE Qurio, or is it a Malzeno that fought off Qurio? I'm confused because I thought the game description said it was Malzeno before corruption.
Final Phase PriMal is almost too much as a fight, similar to Risen Shagaru. However, unlike Risen Shagaru where you have to deal with his insane AOE and speed for more than half of his HP in the hint (approx 65-70%), PriMal you only have to deal with his final ohase in the last 20-25% of his HP in the hunt, so it has the same intensity as Risen Shagaru, without draining your will to live like Shagaru lol Also does this Video imply there will be a "How Sunbreak improved Magnamalo" in the near future? Probably be a short video cuz it will mostly focus on Magnamalo's lack of armblade usage and how Scorned corrected that lol
I like bother versions of Malzeno to me nergigante was the most disappointing elder dragon and his regeneration was whatever could've been better on another monster plus it felt like tou nitpicking at his wingslam and tail attacks plus his pin attacks are whatever cause no pins in rise do damage and you can wirefall freely anyways.
Malzeno was instantly in my top 5 monsters when it was revealed. After awhile, it slowly crept up to top 3. I felt that the fight was disappointing as well (especially compared to the demo), but it's design was so good it carried. As for primordial, I hated its design at first. Changing the vampire asthetic for a knight was such a drastic downgrade. After fighting it, I thought the fight was amazing, but I still didn't like the design. I didn't until midway through the fight, where it got the vampire look, and later an upgraded berserk vampire state. This made the primordial malzeno even better than the regular, at least the 2nd half of it
To be honest, I don't like that Primordial Malzeno gets corrupted by the Qurio during the fight. It was implied that the standard Malzeno was actually a downgraded version of its Primordial state and that Primordial Malzeno was stronger than Gaismagorm and its Qurio. After defeating Gaismagorm, I assumed that Primordial Malzeno willingly chose to be in symbiosis with the Qurio to become more powerful (rather than being unwillingly infected by them and doing the symbiosis after) but the result in the long run ironically ended up being a corrupted state actually weaker, just like a Jedi might be tempted to give in to the Dark Side as an easy shortcut for power. Also, when Primordial Malzeno gets infected, it is technically no longer "Primordial". A full fight without any Qurio (still with phases and powerups, just not Qurio related) would have been better.
The qurio had a different goal with Primordial Malzeno compared to the one we fight in the urgent quest before the Shagaru urgent. The goal of the qurio before Gaismagorm's death was to gather Bioenergy for Gaismagorm to feed on, weakening and draining all who they came across, while their goal after Gaismagorm died was to find a new prime host. If you look closely at Primordial Malzeno's dead body, you'd notice purple scars all over it's body similar to those on risen elder dragons; scars it does not possess prior to engagement.
@@RustyhairedAlp9575 Thanks for the info. Still, I wish Primordial Malzeno was unaffected by the Qurio during the whole fight. Him being overtaken by the Qurio means that, in the end, he is as much of a prey to the Qurio as the other Qurio infected monsters, instead of a legitimate threat to the Qurio, with the regular Malzeno being an individual who chose to make a deal with the Qurio.
@@johan9428 he is a threat for the Qurio indeed. The whole mith is about it bringing judgement, and it turns out it meant the Qurio. Very likely the qurio manage to affect him so notably because he is distracted by us
Primordial Malzeno seems neat, but since regular Malzeno is probably my least favorite flagship across the series, and thinking sunbreak was overall a bad expansion in most ways, I don't think I'll ever fight it unless it gets brought to a future game
This makes me think you didn't play Sunbreak much (maybe not even at all). That you are judging things with some bias going on way before also trying everything to actually make actual criticism. Otherwise you would have already fought Primordial Malzeno by now. It doesn't even require MR200
@@eren7kruger129 i played sunbreak for about 80 hours after already having played Rise for 350. Almost the entirety of my enjoyment of sunbreak came from doing stuff that was already in the base game. I didn't make any judgements about primordial because I haven't fought it, and I even think it looks to be good from what I've seen. I just find sunbreak so genuinely unenjoyable that I have no desire to even launch the game when I could play so many other games, including other monster hunter games

I already liked Malzeno a lot, but Primordial totally blew me away. Such a fast paced but fair fight. It really feels like the perfect fight against our hunters enhanced moveset. Such a great end to such a great game.
I don't know what I was expecting from Primordial, especially since the website said he didn't have the Qurio. But giving him all these unique attacks made him so much better.
Overall I think Sunbreak did a really good job with variants in general, like with Scorned Magna or the Risen Dragons.

Malzeno by itself was a top tier flagship, then came Primordial Malzeno and made the family one of the best overall
hope they come back in the next game, but without qurios, because I love the concept of lance wings.
You then realize, the Malzeno we've been fighting all this time was an afflicted, yet nerfed, version that pailed in comparison to what it once was. And not only did it have an afflicted form, it also tapped into its Risen form, and we a glimpse of hiw one was able to fight Gaismagorm to a stand still.
I think you are kinda downplaying base malzeno's fight here tbh.
The stab: The stab sure may not seem like a big or cool move but it is a very straightforward nice easy to dodge move with a good telegraph and a nice window for attack.
The tail attacks: Are very interesting and even more so than velkhana, the way he front flip to tail stab or back tail poke, the tail side flip he does, the claw wipe to tail spin were all more insteresting than [velkhana's tail poke, velkhana tail air poke, velkhana tail scratch]. Tbh most of velkhana cool moves came from her ice breath as her tail attacks compared to malz not really that great she was just the firt elder to use tail pokes that's about it.
The qurio attacks: He gives the qurio a ball of dragon to carry to the hunter, while I agree he could do more with them the two we got were quite cool. the homing ones and the three split ones.
The combos, malzeno fight is kinda like how old world rajang was he does something you do something back he does another thing you do another thing back like this dance between two people, if you dont see it in that way I can understand why you wont enjoy the battle. And a lot of times in iceborne some monsters never really had downtime with only like 3 openings to attacks whereas malzeno has a lot of downtime with his attacks and combos which is similar to old world combat.
The bloodening turns everything up to eleven, he get faster he doubles up he combos from bite to teleports to other attacks
the teleport is too cool to ignore, and tbf the supermove was a different take from the oversaturated ultimate the every monster in rise and world loved to do that was nukes

the only gripe with his fight is his wing (Lance) sweep attack, hitbox is so broken.
It's still insane how the devs actually designed Malzeno to move faster than the human eye can register. Not just a simple teleport, but LITERALLY moving faster than our eye can see
That's the way to do it tbh, Actual teleporting would be a little too crazy, but temporary super speed works better.

I know that leaks are not usually talked about, but when the data mining of this Malzeno came out, I was impressed.
The only thing we could see was that it had 55 new attacks and we were all wondering how the hell a variant was going to have so many changes.
In the end the result was really fantastic, with the Hazzard version having the longest combo of all MH being 18 hits in a row.
I saw some of the datamines too. A lot of it did end up being accurate since he does have a unique walking animation (when near death), 4 phases, unique death animation (when repelled) etc
I like how the stronger Qurio attacks are basically Primordial trying to get rid of as many Qurio as possible
he's basically trying to cull their numbers by overusing them
Another thing to note is that Primordial Malzeno becomes full-on immune to ALL endemic life in his final phase. Marionettes, Ironsilk, Flash Bombs, Toads, everything the hunters have becomes so used to using becomes useless against Primordial's last stand. Along with looking genuinely demonic, he hits EVEN HARDER, every attack in his last phase is a near one-shot, where his tail-swipe attack is a full-on one-shot.
Love how on regular Malzeno the horns are designed to look like bat ears from the front.
Great video but in my opinion malzeno being kinda mid was actually perfect bc it showed how much weaker and lazier it was to primordial. Cuz if you think abt it, Malzeno is a lazy vampire dragon that uses parasites to hunt for it, so it probably has forgotten how to fight properly. Meanwhile, Primordial is already pretty strong but during the fight, it is being attacked by the qurio and the hunter so it has a sense of desperation cuz it’s trying to survive
Malzeno works better with Primordial, I agree. But if this update didn't exist then I don't really think so.
I did find regular Malzeno's fight to be fun, but that just means Primordial's is even better.
-Primordial is definitely more of a Lance than an SnS user, considering he lifts the Shield Charge and Insta-Block counter straight out of the moveset. But he also has the double wing slash, which resembles an old dash attack the Dual Blades used to have.
-You neglected to mention, but depicted in the video that Primordial actually teleports toward whoever he's targeted when using the big final explosion of his super nuke attack. Most nuke attacks just has the monster staying right where they are when they perform the final blast - even Risen Shagaru. This catches a lot of people off guard.
-Overall, regular Malzeno is one that the Qurio have been draining for a long time, and one that has become addicted on them, if you will. He even looks a bit like a long-time drug addict - he's emaciated and pale, almost skeletal in places. Primordial's Qurio-empowered state, on the other hand, is so crazy because he still has all of his old strength. It even shows in their death animations - the Qurio fly away from regular Malzeno, as if they're done with him, but the ones attached to Primordial actually die along with him - they REALLY wanted to have him as a host.
Another thing that's great about P.Malzeno is the amazing character development

The Malzeno we fought in base Sunbreak is once a P.Malzeno, that defended the Citadel region against Gaismagrom, and eventually defeated it
But in a twist of fate, the Quiros corrupted him, resulting it becoming the one we know of
Base Malzeno is the destroyer of the kingdom, while P.Malzeno is the protector of the kingdom. Both polarizing characters can be the same monster
I think that some people don't understand what primordial malzeno story qwest actually implys malzeno never maked the choice to form a symbolic relationship with the qurios it was forced on him also I don't think malzeno leads the qurios the qurios lead him around they decide where to go and what to do as a example after the lunagaron qwest I though malzeno wanted lunagaron body for a meal and sended the qurios do it for him but now I think malzeno was just there to protect the qurios while they where eating/drinking so malzeno is actually a very tragic monster
Really cause Mal is by far my favorite 5th Gen Flagship (with Magna being a close second), and Primordial just makes it better.

I'd say Magna had the least "presence" but I enjoyed his fight enough (with Bow anyway) and Scorned REALLY help as well but with Velk I didn't enjoy the fight as much personally (though I still liked it).
It probably would have benefited a lot from a Variant or something.
I feel like the Devs were originally going to make Primordial a MR 200 fight but swapped it to 10 for either
1. They knew people werent a fan of content past MR100 and decided to make it MR 10 so everyone could enjoy the fight at once
2. They made it MR 10 to trick people into thinking he would be wasy and not deal alot of damage (this is what happened to me, so glad he 2-3 shots in maxed out augmented armor)
He skyrocketed to one of my favorite looking monsters AND fights as soons as he transforms. What a way to end
He was already in my favorites of the 5th gen flagships but Primordial really shot him to number 1. Velkhana funnily enough though was always my least favorite, so Primordial dunking on her in their turf war was hilarious.
Primordial vs Velkhana imo is proof that he's the smartest elder dragon.
Prims Wings aren't really bigger then that of his Vampire Cousin. The biggest Difference is simply the Fact that the Vampire Boy can't use the full range of the WIngs and only uses the Thumbclaw of it.
I wish u showed the primordial vs velkhana turf war cuz that turf war shows so much of how different In nature primordial is to regular malzeno
I only watched about half the video and there’s a bit of stuff he didn’t go over which likely he went over with the primordial part but the reasoning that the normal Malzeno we first fight is so slow could be excused as the Malzeno not actually being in control. It is said the swarm makes a ‘symbiosis’ with the monsters but in reality, what the swarm does ISNT a symbiosis. They’re full on parasites that are seeking a host to use as a defense mechanism for them all. When the primordial previously faced Gaismagorm he was actually able to repel it however Gaismagorm used the swarm to take that Malzeno under their control. It’s purely a forced take over that Gaismagorm used to keep the primordial away and in turn caused him to have a small evolution to remove the ‘armor’ and be more slim. Which adds onto why the normal Malzeno (or in this case Corrupted Malzeno’s) attacks feel not as heavy, it’s also meant to replicate a vampire or Dracula sense they weren’t all that bulky. Malzeno is rather frail and is forced to rely on the swarm itself to survive now due to the years of exposure to boot. (The original primordial vs Gaismagorm fight happen back during the first rampage about 50 years ago in game.) But to the point, the normal Malzenos whole thing seemed planned to begin with, having the vampiric one be frail but also have it be like a chaotic situation once you realize how fucked up it is while the primordial one is the real hero but in return you’re fucking up in fighting it but also it’s a good thing sense you fighting it restricted the swarm from the take over due to when primordial enters his big Qurio mode (it’s actual name being the blood lust mode) it’s him letting the qurios in seemingly on accident and he was forced into the qurios hands but as we fight we knock him out of it and he goes back to how he was before. If we weren’t there, primordial would of suffered heavily like the original one

I was already a fan of Malzeno when it was introduced. I loved the concept, his design and its theme is my favorite in Sunbreak. Primordial blows regular Malzeno out the water and is better in every way, in opinion. Easily one of my favorite elder dragons alongside Valtrax and Crimson Glow.
See, most of what you find wrong with Malzeno is what I find wrong with Velkhana. Attacks that don't feel dangerous, derivative abilities, though for me I also find the visual design and monster's theme to be uninteresting as well. Ice monsters before and after it have all been far more creative with how they use Ice than just "It's basic ice armor and ice beams again and the lamest and most flimsy-teeling weapon for a body part of any monster". Great Izuchi animates as though it puts more effort into its tail attacks than Velkhana, as does Malzeno whose tail feels much more weighty imo.
Malzeno I find the best of 5th gen's flagships. A unique and creative design that doesn't feel downplayed like Nergigante, uninspired like Velkhana or overdone like Magnamalo, a fast-paced fight with interesting and powerful-feeling attacks that also become much faster as the fight progresses, and an excellent theme. Magnamalo had been better than the first two this gen for me; but the visual design of the monster has always been a little overdone. Malzeno finally hit the sweetspot again.
Primordial is absolutely still an improvement. Easy to make a monster far better by giving it attacks that are reminiscent of Glavenus, the one true god, on top of, well, everything everything else.
Velkhana is all about precision, and she does have a lot more such as the dropping ice prisms, walls of ice, slowing frost etc.
While I alive Velkhana a lot, and she was my favourite flagship, Malzeno is just HIM. Heavy Wings majorly downplayed it, and I don’t know why.

I think what makes Malzeno better is knowing the whole deal with the devil vampire background behind it and how faithful he is to that.
I never had any strong opinions on base mal because he’s not exactly the best but he isn’t bad at all.
Primordial is easily the best monster this franchise has ever produced and honestly? Y’all can fight me if you disagree. Name ONE monster that feels as difficult as primal while feeling fair as hell.
Ok not to be rude or judge mental but gaismagorm yes having the same body structure of gore, it doesn’t even have wings…that’s what it makes it different it isn’t a elder dragon with 4 legs and 2 wings the fact that it has arms instead of wings sets it apart from the rest of the elders, and it even emphasizes that more with vestigial hind legs which serves a point more that it’s different
Malzeno’s wings are very imposing as not a lot of monsters in general even use their wings for combat, and gore and shagaru’s wings are very much more arm like being practically arms and less of wings and valstrax are literally jet engines which clearly can be used for combat
So Malzeno is rather different compared to other elders but not too extremely different enough so it fits in decently
I don't really see much to dislike about base Malzeno, its a very pretty Elder Dragon and I love its vampire theme. I guess maybe its gameplay isnt too threatening compared to Nergigante in Base World after a certain point, like we can consider it a common Elder level but not the most threatening, pretty much Velkhana but less annoying with its poking and freezing tactics.
And Primordial is just a supreme redesign showing its state before it evolved with Qurio, very ruthless fight though in my experience it was just as much a nightmare as Ruiner Nergigante though maybe moreso cause relying on a Fulur Anjanath hammer was able to turn the tide, meanwhile at Prime Mal i feel like there was an immense amount of luck and chance especially needing mutiplayer
While hard, i loved the fight.
The Quiro suddenly appearing midfight, trying to control Malzeno, and somewhat succeeding in that, to Malzeno trying to fight them back, giving us a small window to attack.
Lore wise and gameplay wise i absolutely loved that fight.
Calling malzeno "so impressively lazy" for not eating his food on his own is comedy gold lmao.
"...Let's observe what [Primordial Malzeno] actually does in combat."
Honestly you could've just cut to a commentary-less clip of him doing a full final phase combo and it would've more than spoke for itself.
Love that you pointed out the design elements behind the render, I didn't notice it before watching. I also never made the connection between his shield-wing -> tail stab combo and the lance shield hop -> stab combo, very cool!
I'm fine with the theme, but it would have been fun if it gradually turned into the other Malzeno theme the more vampire he gets
Palzeno is my favorite fight in MH. Not just mechanically, which he succeeds in, but narratively, as you're saving him and his hunt is a minute of a character arc for Fiorayne. It's the perfect end to Sunbreak. I never hated Rise like most players do, but when Sunbreak came to answer their pleas I knew it'd be amazing, and Palzeno is it.
Malzeno was my favorite monster before I knew Primordial would exist. There was competition from Magnamalo at first, but Primordial solidified Malzeno as my favorite, since I just consider all versions of a monster as one unit. The music, fight, and story really came together for me, and PriMal took all of that and upped it into orbit aside from sadly not getting its own music.
When Primordial did this 15:13, I screamed because I already love SnS and just about all things knight aesthetic. I thought the attack was over after the wing/shield dash but nope. Such a great story telling hunt and one of my all time faves
Primordial has been the only monster to triple cart me more than once. It’s responsible for 4 of my 6 triple carts in the game. Beat it twice but man it’s a tough, fair, and fun fight
I’m sad how I can’t redo the same quest again as that sky was beautiful
we know that at least 1 fought and repelled gaismagorm, presumably weakened enough during the fight that it couldn't resist the qurio and so they formed their relationship with it, cutting off gaismagorm from them as they had a new favored host so it's recovery was slowed, as it's body weakened being able to use the qurio to make up for that makes sense, spending little energy when they can do it for him.
i guess like the symbiotes in marvel feeding on the host but then giving them benefits if the host can keep them fed.
like as malzeno is technically the variant and primordial is the base species i wonder just how many qurio infected malzeno there are meant to be,
like sure the original was infected after facing gaismagorm, but i wonder if it then went on to infect it's own kind when the quiro drove it mad and it went into that bloodlust state, infecting multiple and making them qurio vampires like itself, spreading from there.
all those malzeno being host to a bunch of qurio keeping gaismagorm starved.
The shield and stab combo is a cool design but combat-wise it may be the most annoying attack to deal with and has improving space. The ideal way to dodge this attack should be roll backward followed by moving into the opposite side against the tail stabbing so you can attack it in a safe postion. The problem is that the size of the monster greatly affect the hitbox of the first shield rushing attack. For a large size P.Malzeno there is no way for you to dodge the attack by rolling backward unless you use GP/counter or have the evade window/extender skill. I think a good attack design should grant player a chance to avoid it by positioning themselves in a right place without using any armor skills (that most of the attack from P.Malzeno is able to achieve this point) but I find this is the only attack that is quite frustrating to deal with.
Dodging to the side works well in my experience.

I feel like the best version of it is his second (and third) fase from primordial, it combines both the sick movements from primordial and the elegancy of regular with the qurio cravat and abilities. Also, regular malzenos reminds me of Grimm from hollow knight
19:26 There's a nice detail on this ground attack. Just like you said, it's wings changed a lot and the edges resemble claws which Malzeno can use to throw rocks.

Man you have pretty much nailed my thoughts on Malzeno (besides the design, I was hoping it could be like Magnamalo where it was an enjoyable fight despite my hatred of the design but that didn't happen). Malzeno has always been the least interesting 5th flagship to fight (at least in their debut game, rip Sunbreak Velkhana), and Primordial took literally everything I disliked about Malzeno and took a complete 180 with it. Even made me appreciate the design of the base monster slightly more with the comparison of how lithe it is now compared to he more robust Primordial.
It’s funny I was only able to fight primordial recently since I play on console but overall I find this monster incredibly satisfying, the design changes were great (even if I think base malzenos had a lot more character) and the fight was incredibly fun yet challenging, but honestly I think it’s tied with the base form as my second favorite monster and favorite 5th gen flagship
So the only complaints is
-an original theme (even though there hasn’t been a new theme for a variant)
-more shield bash combos (which fair enough)
- And the MR cap (which is a knit pick)

Chaotic Gore, Allmother and White Fatalis have unique themes, so Primordial getting one wouldn't have been unprecedented. I don't mind too much though because base Malzeno's theme was so good.

I fell in love with the story telling of PMalz, just seeing it play out when you first fight it was actually pretty cool to me.
You suggested that accepting the Qurio may have been a bad move because it made Malzeno weaker. But maybe non-primordial Melzenos just aren't strong enough to begin with, and thus couldn't resist the Qurio. IT not being a decision to accept them, but there not being an alternative.

I like base malzeno fine but primordial is, both cannonically and in my mind, true malzeno. While I wouldn't be upset to see base malzeno again I dont think I'd much care of he was left out of future monster hunter games, but it would be a crying shame if we never saw primordial again. He has in my opinion, the single most fun fight in the whole series.

I feel like it was more than different enough to be used for Primordial Malzeno (plus it being more orchestral fits) to the points it sounds weird to me that it didn't turn out to be a thing at all.
Edit: a thing that I also would have liked regarding this is having a new theme while it was in the regular form, but then shifting to the classic Malzeno theme when Primordial Malzeno gets infected by the Qurio.

I think bringing in one of Frontier's elders into the Trio would be nice, or maybe you fight a Frontier Elder Dragon as an Urgent before or after the normal Elder trio

On that note, maybe starts bringing back another monsters (or frontier ones) instead of using overstayed monsters (or flagships) like narga, zinogre, tigrex, kushala, teo, heck even rajang

Honestly i feel like the criticism about the difficulty is a bit too subjective. While it's true that Risen Shaggy is one of the toughtest monsters of the game, i have NEVER triple carted to him, meanwhile both Risen Valstrax and Primalzeno have done that to me multiple times. I feel like these three are made to be relative to each other, so at the end of the day it really only comes down to your own personal experience and playstyle

If I were to teleport like that it would be cool but I will need to wear a flame resistant suit because if you were to be able to run at sonic speed eventually you will start to burn to the amount of friction is running through your body the more friction means more shit more heat more flames but It would be cool I could just easily carry a physical attack and then just place it back or actually retaliate so in someway I’d be using an Uno reverse card lol

While I understand the criticism that primordial malz should've been MR200, at the same time I'm glad they placed him at MR10. I've really only just now gotten into monster hunter with rise basically being my first game, and I played for around 30 hours upon pc launch but then put the game down until about a month ago. Since then I've clocked in around 210 hours total, but despite that I'm not even MR100 yet (i'm currently sitting on like MR85 or so). In all honesty, if prim malz was at MR200, there's a very good chance I would've put down the game before I have an opportunity to actually fight him, which would've been a shame because I'm confident in saying that prim malz is my favorite fight in the game, at least so far from what I've personally experienced.
Malzeno was a very difficult elder dragon when got to him but I killed him first try it took a while to kill because of my bad weapon and I killed hazard primordial malzeno first try

@@woah571 Gore Magala also returned in both GU and Sunbreak with the Frenzy Virus, but the Frenzied Monsters didn't return in neither.
They don't have to make Afflicted Monsters return in Wilds, but they still can still bring back the Qurios and Bloodblight for Malzenos fight.

You have a problem with you're Main line Monsters tier list. Gore Magala Inst in S Tier and neither is seregios. Therefore this list is WRONG!!!

I think it’s the latter, since we see it killed a Qurio in the cutscene. I assume “fighting off” means attacking the Qurio.

Final Phase PriMal is almost too much as a fight, similar to Risen Shagaru.
However, unlike Risen Shagaru where you have to deal with his insane AOE and speed for more than half of his HP in the hint (approx 65-70%), PriMal you only have to deal with his final ohase in the last 20-25% of his HP in the hunt, so it has the same intensity as Risen Shagaru, without draining your will to live like Shagaru lol
Also does this Video imply there will be a "How Sunbreak improved Magnamalo" in the near future? Probably be a short video cuz it will mostly focus on Magnamalo's lack of armblade usage and how Scorned corrected that lol

I like bother versions of Malzeno to me nergigante was the most disappointing elder dragon and his regeneration was whatever could've been better on another monster plus it felt like tou nitpicking at his wingslam and tail attacks plus his pin attacks are whatever cause no pins in rise do damage and you can wirefall freely anyways.

Malzeno was instantly in my top 5 monsters when it was revealed. After awhile, it slowly crept up to top 3. I felt that the fight was disappointing as well (especially compared to the demo), but it's design was so good it carried.
As for primordial, I hated its design at first. Changing the vampire asthetic for a knight was such a drastic downgrade. After fighting it, I thought the fight was amazing, but I still didn't like the design. I didn't until midway through the fight, where it got the vampire look, and later an upgraded berserk vampire state. This made the primordial malzeno even better than the regular, at least the 2nd half of it
To be honest, I don't like that Primordial Malzeno gets corrupted by the Qurio during the fight. It was implied that the standard Malzeno was actually a downgraded version of its Primordial state and that Primordial Malzeno was stronger than Gaismagorm and its Qurio. After defeating Gaismagorm, I assumed that Primordial Malzeno willingly chose to be in symbiosis with the Qurio to become more powerful (rather than being unwillingly infected by them and doing the symbiosis after) but the result in the long run ironically ended up being a corrupted state actually weaker, just like a Jedi might be tempted to give in to the Dark Side as an easy shortcut for power. Also, when Primordial Malzeno gets infected, it is technically no longer "Primordial". A full fight without any Qurio (still with phases and powerups, just not Qurio related) would have been better.
Primordial Malzeno is still a legit variant.
They are just old and experienced Malzenos, untouched by the Qurio.
The qurio had a different goal with Primordial Malzeno compared to the one we fight in the urgent quest before the Shagaru urgent. The goal of the qurio before Gaismagorm's death was to gather Bioenergy for Gaismagorm to feed on, weakening and draining all who they came across, while their goal after Gaismagorm died was to find a new prime host. If you look closely at Primordial Malzeno's dead body, you'd notice purple scars all over it's body similar to those on risen elder dragons; scars it does not possess prior to engagement.
@@RustyhairedAlp9575 Thanks for the info. Still, I wish Primordial Malzeno was unaffected by the Qurio during the whole fight. Him being overtaken by the Qurio means that, in the end, he is as much of a prey to the Qurio as the other Qurio infected monsters, instead of a legitimate threat to the Qurio, with the regular Malzeno being an individual who chose to make a deal with the Qurio.
@@johan9428 he is a threat for the Qurio indeed. The whole mith is about it bringing judgement, and it turns out it meant the Qurio. Very likely the qurio manage to affect him so notably because he is distracted by us
@johan9428 my thoughts on it are that while you're fighting him he gets weaker from the damage allowing the qurio to corrupt him.

Primordial Malzeno seems neat, but since regular Malzeno is probably my least favorite flagship across the series, and thinking sunbreak was overall a bad expansion in most ways, I don't think I'll ever fight it unless it gets brought to a future game

This makes me think you didn't play Sunbreak much (maybe not even at all). That you are judging things with some bias going on way before also trying everything to actually make actual criticism. Otherwise you would have already fought Primordial Malzeno by now. It doesn't even require MR200
@@eren7kruger129 i played sunbreak for about 80 hours after already having played Rise for 350. Almost the entirety of my enjoyment of sunbreak came from doing stuff that was already in the base game.
I didn't make any judgements about primordial because I haven't fought it, and I even think it looks to be good from what I've seen. I just find sunbreak so genuinely unenjoyable that I have no desire to even launch the game when I could play so many other games, including other monster hunter games

Hey , i have an idéa about a new monster, a elder dragon level monster snake with wings based on a genie, he's moveset , everything, he can use fire, ice, poison, dragon wind, thunder, qurio,frenzy in hus first face and second phase he use soundwaves or sandy parasites than make you enable to fight , but you can run and use an antidote. Does it sounds nice ?
