Been using 30-06 for years, just as my dad and granddad before me, and this year not only did I get a nice muley with it, but my fiancé got her first ever deer with it as well.
50 years ago I started hunting and shunned the 30-06 as it was so common. 5 years ago after 45 years of experimenting with everything else I bought a 30-06. Now I own 3 and am getting rid of a lot of my other rifles. Loaded to modern pressures it's an amazing round. Versatile and super well balanced! Sheep to Moose to Big Bear and Bison as well.
North61- Good to see you posting here I have enjoyed watched lots of your videos!. I did the same thing starting about 15 years ago. After using everthing from 22'-250 to 45-70s on game, I realized I had NEVER owned a 30-06! By then I had 35 years experience as a handloader and had no problem getting great accuracy and performance out of the grand old War horse.
My dad back in the day. "Said You bought this..im like what DID i just buy. "Weathby Vanguard 25-06 with a really nice scope" 400$ oh...cool. Pawn shop sale. Okay dad here's the cash(dont tell mom)
The 30-06 is a true do it all cartridge. And it's available in any corner of this planet. I'm a fan of the .270, a child of the 06, but I would never talk anyone out of choosing an 06.
I'm really not sure what's not to love about the 30-06. It literally does almost everything and not just ok but does it well! 110gr - 250gr. It'll do it all really well! With modern rifles, modern powders and modern bullets. It directly competes with all the new great cartridges.
Love love love this caliber. My dad bought my first rifle chambered in 30-06 and now that I’m into reloading…the sky is the limit for this round. Great video!
To me, at 63, it is weird that the 30-06 is being talked about as if it is a Model T. Seriously, the 30-06 is a viable contemporary round that is effective for a wide variety of shooters needs.
The bullet weight range is impressive. Obviously the case design was ahead of its time since it is the basis for so many other cartridges. I really like .270 Winchester but recently bought a rifle in .30-06 just because. I’m glad that 4895 is a “go to” powder since I have a little bit somewhere …
Shot my first coyote with the ole Remington 760 GameMaster pump. Still running Hornady ammo today. Great cartridge for the Oregon Coast Jungle terrain. Thanks again for yet another awesome and educational podcast
I really appreciate this podcast as well as many others. You guys do a great job relaying the information to the community. If we can strive to use the word “harvest” as opposed to other words used, it will educate others to use less offensive language that reflects poorly upon our community. Thank you for all you contribute!!
If I ever looked for factory loads for a hunt in Alaska for Alaska's big three, I would want 220 grain round nose softs. Forget the trajectory table for 500 yards. Moose, buffalo, and Kodiak bear, this is the kind of game you want to stalk to within 50 yards.
I've been using Barnes bullets for decades now, and that's exactly what I'd be using. In all the years I've used em I have recovered exactly 1 bullet, from a Spike Bull I busted at 500yds in his bed, found the BEAUTIFUL bullet in his hide on the opposite side after busting both shoulders, had I not hit shoulder it woulda punched right through no doubt. Had over 90% weight retention and did it's job perfectly. Been extremely happy with Barnes Loads, the TTSX and LRX mostly.
Carlos Hathcock used the 180-grain Camp Perry match load during his second tour, and possibly, his first as well. Unless I'm mistaken, the ammo was manufactured by Winchester-Western. Most of the .308 stuff was made at the Lake City plant, and this is what John Roland Burke and later on, Ron McAbee would have fired from their M14s (M118 Ball, 173-grain). Brotherly love from British Columbia!😎🍻
30-06 is the gold standard! New to the cartridge, but recently took a 310 lb black bear in Maine. 165 gn Nosler Partition, 1 shot! Largest get in a camp of 28 hunters. This 'meat in the pot' will always handle what's in front of it!
I still use a sporterized P17 modified by Remington called the 30S. 1.5 MOA with my reloads. I own other rifles, but I still love my 30s, which I got as a boy 47 years ago. Solid copper bullets are a game changer.
My blaser r8 30-06 will shoot under half inch at 200m with the 178gr eldx i am shooting in a underground range so no wind fantastic bullets I would try a different powder mate before trying a different bullet I'm using vit N160 getting 2830fps
A friend’s son was so proud of his 1903 Springfield from CMP that he had sporterized and re-barreled for .308 Winchester. It looked pretty and I didn’t want to be rude and ask “What were you thinking?”
Ouch hopefully it wasn't a hit rifle with the SRS or Archival research group. Seen a M1903 that had been drilled and tapped with a bipod attached as well and the rifle was a hit to a M1903 that was recovered off of the USS California after it had been sunk at Pearl Harbor.
@@chipsterb4946 Yeah most examples still in original condition where it wasn't rebuilt afterward start at 5 digits. One i'd seen on a auction page went for 25K.
If you hand load it's NOT even a sweet spot..... It's the place holder for either lol. Can load it DOWN to the (bitch-ass) 308, (or 30HATE as I call it 😂) Or load it UP to a 300 Win Mag. Single most versatile do-it-all cartridge for North American big game. Bar none
The guys mentioned that the M1 Garand was designed to use a 7mm cartridge (276 Pederson) but General MacArthur changed it to 30-06 because there was WWI ammo left over. Ironically, at least according to Hatcher's Notebook (page 25), all of the WWI stocks were used up by 1936, before the M1 Garand even entered service. It has been argued that having a battle rifle using the same cartridge as the machineguns helped with logistics, but others argue that the material savings from the smaller 276 Pederson, lighter weapon, and reduced ammo weight would have more than compensated for that.
The 30-06 is a grand old round that’s survived for over a century and never needed any company or talking head to root for it because it’s simply that good! When the current collection of the newest, greatest, can’t-live-without-it rounds are forgotten and obsolete, the 30-06 will still be used and celebrated! My prediction is that Hornady, and the rest of the ammo companies, will be turning out the 30-06. If someone asked me what rifle caliber to own, I’d say 30-06 and never look back!
I thought the 3006 was too common, I was running a sporty model 1935. 7x57 is 3006 daddy. From there to 300 win mag. When i got a 3006, I must admit, I am impressed. After harvesting moose and elk for 2 decades, I am a devoted fan.
My LUCKY rifle is a late 1990's Ruger M77 30-06, who ever carries that rifle gets a deer. Beautiful walnut stock, high quality shinny blue, with a Leupold 3x9, very simple accurate enough, light weight rifle. I've carried it for miles and miles of spot and track hunting.
Haha I have an old M77 too. With a Leupold 3x9 And I LOVE that it holds 5+1 rather than the 4+1 basically every current production 30-06 rifle holds nowadays Been using that old M77 for over 20 years, and my dad used it for a decade before he passed it to me. Taken dozens of various big game animals shooting good old Remington Core-Lokts and Barnes TTSX loads, and dozens of coyotes using Mil Surplus FMJ loads over the years, and it's just as accurate as the day it was made. Cover 3 rounds with a nickel at 100yds year after year Named it "Sandman" after I tipped my first buck, bull, and bear over with it when i was 12 years old, a "grand slam year" as we call it. 😂 Dumped an elk at 550 yds with that rifle, and it holds a special place in my heart.
This was one of my favorite episodes of the podcast. Never knew anything about the 276 Pederson cartridge and I certainly didn’t know the M1 Garrand was originally designed for a 7mm cartridge.
When I went to buy My 1st new rifle upon reaching 18yrs old, I wanted a .30-06 as I had a M1903 with dies. The store didn't has one. So I settled for a .270Win. Little did I know I would not get that scoped .30-06 sporter for almost 50yrs. Still have more -06's then .270Win 's.
I've had a 1970s Remington 700 in this caliber as well as the Browning FLD and Browning Composite Hunter. It's very versatile with bullet weights from 125 to 220 gr. When I worked at my LGS I sold more .30-06 than 6.5 or 6.8 or anything else. That caliber can be found anywhere.
been using the 06 for 50 yrs because it works . I am not into all of these new calibers today because as I said the 06 works . I can find the ammo everywhere even in gas stations in my part of the Country and i know the drop of my bullet out to 500 yds .I almost gave it up a few years ago getting old and the recoil started bothering me but a friend of mine talked me into a muzzle break , today me and my 06 are back in the woods again . I shoot 180 grn and get the recoil of a 308
It's hard to scratch the surface on this cartridge in only 48 minutes. I agree completely with the viability of the aught-six in today's world. My PRS rifle is chambered in 30-06. If the fast new PRC cartridges are cross-fitters, the 30 GVT 06 is strongman. Strength never goes out of style.
I have an old Model 721 in 06. The gun still runs but the safety is a little sketchy now. When I buy a new rifle in the next year it will be in 30-06, even with all these new age calibers.
What's the most common loading now for 30-06 in these times?? I collected some brass and was thinking to tinker with Hdy 150 gn SP on a Remington BDL pushed to 3100 fps?? Could the SP handle that?? Twist rate is probably 1:10 on Rem BDL...I don't remember...
The Mauser action of the 1903 Springfield allow the higher pressures for the first time in the US. Before that smokeless was introduced with the .30-30 but in a weaker action (lever) and the .30-40 Karg used only one bolt lug. We actually paid Mauser patent royalties during WWI for the 1903 use of his design. We went to a 150 gr spitzer bullet because the German 8x57 had just switched a lighter spitzer. I think the earlier use of very heavy bullets was from the black powder days. You couldn’t increase velocity so you add mass to extend ranges.
Been saying it for decades. The 30-06 is the best and single most versatile do-it-all cartridge for North American big game, hands down. When you're not sure what to grab, just grab an "Aught 6" and one of the gajillion different factory loads to suit your need. OR load it down to a 308, or UP to a 300 Win Mag. You can go into any small desolate town Mom and Pop store, trading Post, outdoors store, or Mercantile and you're gonna find 30-06 ammo. It is the king of hunting Versatility.
Shot a many of WT with the 30-06, one of my top 3 all time favs. Perfect for our SE TX woods, use my beloved 7 Mag for the pipeline hunts. 06 is still my go to though. 👍🏻👍🏻
I might mention that my .30-06 I built from an '03A3 Springfield barrelled action loves MILSURP M2AP cartridges. It acts like match grade ammo. The berm behind the targets was a hill a quarter mile thick, so excessive penetration was not an issue. Tolerances were held tighter due to the nature of the manufacturing process. In People's Republic of California, Commissar Newsom and Comrade Bonta don't like it. For match or target ammo, environmentalists love it because it is lead free.
A couple missed opportunities to mention: - BAR was introduced in the last month or so of WWI. Iconic weapon. - Garand originally designed the M1 for .276 cartridge. But the Army insisted on .30-06 as we had so much in inventory. Interesting that the Army has come back to this caliber recently for the 6.8 SPC and 6.8x51.
At 26:45 you couldn't think of any stories about Teddy Roosevelt and the 30-06. He was given a 30-06 and he loved it so much he sent it back to the factory several times to restore it good as new because he took it everywhere and shot the piss out of it.
Was playing with the Hornady ballistics calculator one night a year ago and modern high bc 30 cal bullets. Came to the conclusion I would love to get a faster twist barrel and start loading nothing but 208 gr all coppers (cant remember if the cx or the barnes was a higher bc). But wow! The LR numbers had me scratching my head how effective you could go with a heavy for caliber light material copper to give the bc a push into the 😮 range.
The SAAMI chamber for the 30-06 has a simple taper into the rifling without a section of snug freebore to assure that the bullet is aligned with the bore. Is there a significant improvement in average accuracy with a more modern "match-style" chamber that has a section of freebore? If getting a new barrel, is it worth it to specify a match chamber?
Honestly dude, unless you're doing extreme long-range it's not even worth it. Been using the same old Ruger M77 for over 30 years, still just as accurate as the day my dad gave it to me. And. Covers 3 shots with a nickel at 100yds all day... With FACTORY loads. It's an MOA/Sub MOA capable gun all day long ESPECIALLY with handloads.... and it's decades old. No sense in dickin around and spending a ton of cash unless you're trying to shoot 1000-1500yds far as I'm concerned
@@mrdark9916 I've known people with 30-06's that were not accurate with most factory loads and it cost quite a lot in ammo or load development to find something it liked. I don't know if that is relatively uncommon, though. That's why I asked folks at Hornady, since they have a lot of in-house experience and have handled a lot of calls from customers. If you have watched a lot of Dave Emery videos, he once mentioned "finding the formula" of at least .100" of tight freebore (roughly 5 thousanths of an inch clearance) to get consistent accuracy. That makes me wonder how much difference it makes, on average, versus old-style chambers without freebore. Not long ago the fellow on the Backfire channel was talking about how much he had spent on ammo trying to get his new 300 Win Mag to shoot well. It was in the hundreds of dollars. I wonder how common that is?
Seth and compadres. Love your shows. keep up the great work. Would it be possible to do a video or podcast about the high shoulder shot that devastates the brachial plexus and puts an animal down immediately. a lot of people I tell about this look at me like I have three heads. there's plenty of info about this on the internet but I think people just discount the whole idea. Some info from you folks might lend some credence to the whole subject. Thanks
I kinda sorta take umbrage in your comment that thaw 20-06 was the first cartridge with the standard rim diameter that occupied this space and the rest of the shooting world was playing catch-up (paraphrasing). The 6.5x55 & 7x57 were introduced in the early 1890’s and have rim diameters of 0.480 & 0.470 inches respectively. Whilst the 8x57 was introduced in 1903 also utilizing the standard boltface. If anything the 39-06 (as much as I love it 🥰) was last to the party. Have a Merry Christmas!!
what a coincidence! Had my grandad's sears roebuck and co. J.C. Higgins model 50 30-06 rebarreled. Grandpap's had ordered new in 1950. I rebarreled in 30-06 and just got back yesterday.
🤠 Yep, Give Me the 270 Winchester Over the 30-06 Springfield For My Hunting Needs! 🤗 That Being Said, The 280 AI, 35 Whelen, 338-06, 6.5-06, 25-06, etc...are All Great Cartridges! 👨⚖ Since I Like the "Extra Round" in the Magazine (Over These Short/Fat Cases) - If I Had to Pick Another Besides the 270 Winchester (As I Own a 30-06 Too) - Then It Would Be the 280 AI! 😎
@ronlowney4700 35 whelen is a cartridge like the 358 winchester. Never enough love. Within 300 yards probably the best choice on bear, elk, moose, large deer. Or as a 1 gun option for Canadian hunters.
You can "upgrade" it yourself by handloading lol Can load it DOWN to the (bitch-ass) 308 (or as I call it 30HATE lol 😂) Or load it UP to a 300 Win Mag. Single most versatile do-it-all cartridge for North American big game. Bar none.
270 is a great cartridge, but frankly it's not NEARLY as versatile as the 30-06, it's just not 30-06 is the single most versatile do-it-all cartridge for North American big game, hands down 270 is a great flat shooting round, great for deer and real big game like Elk/Bear ECT out to 3 mabey 400yds but i really prefer a bigger heavier 30cal bullet for those longer pokes on those bigger animals, 180gr ect. It's just really needed if your takin longer pokes. 270 can make the hits but it just lacks that brass, mass and ass of the bigger 30cal heavier bullets. At least In my opinion. YMMV
🕵️♂️ Did You Know that the 270 Winchester can shoot Bullets from 80 grains to 180 grains with a 1 in 10 twist? And, if you use the 165 grain Nosler ABLR Bullet, like I do, that 270 Winchester Has Alot More Range Than 300 to 400 yards! IN FACT, At the Elevations Where I Hunt Elk (9,000 to 12,000 feet, with a Muzzle Velocity of just 2,800 ft/s), it will maintain an Energy Level of over 1,500 ft lbs (the minimal amount of energy most people accept as What is needed for elk) and a Bullet Velocity of over 2,000 ft/s out to over 800 yards (1/2 mile)! While I am not shooting that far at Any Game Animals, the 270 Winchester has the Ability to Do More Than What is Necessary! 🤑
I appreciate the history of the 06 but in modern rifles and modern propellants and with bullets like the 165 cx I’ve seen load data that puts that bullet at 3000 FPS .. the 06 is as relevant today as it has ever been
I'm surprised that nothing was mentioned about Hornady's Light Magnum loading in 30-06 with 180 gr Interlock bullet. If I remember correctly it boosted the velocity by 200 fps and came close to 7mm mag. performance. I found it to be an excellent elk load.
I killed my first elk with a 30/06. Great round! I have a Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster that I have played around with. I loaded 180 grain Nosler Partitions with H4831SC. After listening to the podcast, is there a better powder to try?
@@ronlowney4700 I just need to find a good load that isn't too hot or punishing for this particular rifle. I don't expect it to shoot bug holes but I want to have confidence in the accuracy.
I run those m1 Garrand 168s in my old Remington 742. It runs way better n smoother with those. Alot of the new hotter ammo makes it jam really bad. Those m1 specialized loads run like a shaved cat.
Carlos Hathcock set the Wimbledon 1,000 yard record with a Springfield 1903 in 30-06. I am not him, but the ‘06 has given me 0.47 MOA at 100 to 500 yards with hand loads. And I cannot stabilize a 110 grain bullet in my barrel, but the 165gr to 220gr works stellar. MAC SOG forever.
🕵️♂️ It Makes Me Wonder Why Horneday Never Designed a Cartridge Similar to the 7×64 Brenneke (or 7x62), but Operating at 65,000 psi? What That Would Allow - Over These "Short/Fat" Cases - is an EXTRA Round in the Magazine! It Is One Major Thing That I Don't Like About the 7mm prc! 🤷♂️
I have more rifles in 30-06 than any other rifle I been collecting older rifles like pre 64 model 70 and a 721 Remington and I have took more elk and mule deer with it than any other caliber I have ever shot
I load the lapua 200 megas, soft point at 2615, barnes ttsx 180 at 2850 fps, barnes 168 ttsx at 3000 fps, hornady 220 round nose at 2450 fps, 22 in barrel, browning abolt from 1993, great factory rifle, shooting half in round about
Yeah spire point cup and core probably not the way to go some will break up pretty bad a close range copper, a frames, and boned bullet are the trident and true
What is punch? The answer that stops Charging Lions Tigers and Bears in there tracks The answer that makes the 06 fly farther without dropping Is the Angle on nose of the Bullet acts as wedge and opens a 8 inch hole if you watch in slow motion. it also hydroplanes on lower denser air to not drop like math maticians say. Like air plane wing. To shoot 1000 yards 7 mm mag vs 06 7 mm mag is dialing up 14 feet to go from 300 yards to 1000 so if we are dialed at 200 yards shooting 2 foot plates every 100 yards the 06 does not have to dial up . not even with old M1 Garand Then theres the 308 doing same speed as 06 2700fps but if you put your chrongraph at 300 yards the 06 is doing 300 feet per second Higher. This was proven in the 60s Thats why it out ranges the 300 mags . if you look at reloaders today with a custom Rifle and Muzzle brake theres a us sniper Shooting R22 and 190 and 210 Berger Bullet at 2900 with 0 signs of over pressure Same 2 guys are saying you cant over pressure a 06 shell not even topping off shells and compacting powder with slug . I would never do that just because the kick but mostly factory ammo 06 tops at 57 grains most load the IMR powder to 60 Grains and its comfortable shooting 180 at 2800-2900 feet per second. Thats my Grizzley load . and killed 2 Big Grizzleys and huge Kodiak Charging and 1 shot each stopped them in there tracks All you have to do to see what I see is not shim the scope on 7mm mag youl be looking at target being daylighted at bottom of front of scope and hitting where as the 06 top of target is still touching cross hair and still hitting Flater is never Better thats why the 50 cal was designed 3 times bigger to same 2700 feet per second with little case size changes to function in Machine Gun
Only problem with 30_06 is you don't really need another gun. 🤘🍁🇨🇦🍁🤘
Awesome great point
Not for hunting. But 06 ar-10s are hard to find and sketchy outside of custom builds.
@propertypreparedness6846 ah yeah good point.
Yeah you do. You need a 300 win and a 300 roy.
Are you allowed to have more than one gun in Canada?

It’s just such a good cartridge, especially for hand loaders. It’s the sweet spot between .308 & .300Win Mag. 👍🏻🇺🇸
If you hand load it's NOT even a sweet spot..... It's the place holder for either lol.
Can load it DOWN to the (bitch-ass) 308, (or 30HATE as I call it 😂)
Or load it UP to a 300 Win Mag.
After harvesting moose and elk for 2 decades, I am a devoted fan.
i still have and use a 03 springfield that my dad gave me and i still use it for hunting. oldie but goodie
Still one of the best all around hunting rounds 👍
THE best Do-it-all cartridge for North American big game. Hands down.
With a Leupold 3x9 And I LOVE that it holds 5+1 rather than the 4+1 basically every current production 30-06 rifle holds nowadays
Been using that old M77 for over 20 years, and my dad used it for a decade before he passed it to me.
Taken dozens of various big game animals shooting good old Remington Core-Lokts and Barnes TTSX loads, and dozens of coyotes using Mil Surplus FMJ loads over the years, and it's just as accurate as the day it was made. Cover 3 rounds with a nickel at 100yds year after year
Named it "Sandman" after I tipped my first buck, bull, and bear over with it when i was 12 years old, a "grand slam year" as we call it. 😂
Dumped an elk at 550 yds with that rifle, and it holds a special place in my heart.
Bring Matt back more... the historian's perspective is super interesting... could apply to all podcasts.
We will!
Jack of all trades, King of all.

Excellent presentation! Well done!
Thank you kindly!
First deer with the M1 Garand is pretty sick. Actually got mine with a Spanish 98 mauser in 7x57.
I have an old Model 721 in 06. The gun still runs but the safety is a little sketchy now. When I buy a new rifle in the next year it will be in 30-06, even with all these new age calibers.
Great Podcast 💯 Thanks guys 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Glad you enjoyed it
Gave the video a thumbs up before Mr. Hornady finished talking. Love the 30-06💥💥💥
Thanks 👍
What's the most common loading now for 30-06 in these times?? I collected some brass and was thinking to tinker with Hdy 150 gn SP on a Remington BDL pushed to 3100 fps?? Could the SP handle that?? Twist rate is probably 1:10 on Rem BDL...I don't remember...
Would handle it just fine :)
160 range is probably the best middle ground. My father has always shot 168gn
My first shot with a 30-06 is my dads Remington 760 pump action
The 30/06 loaded correctly is not a bad pick anywhere in the world. Use a 1 in 9 twist barrel and a 24 inch barrel and go forth supremely prepared.
Thank you for This podcast Guys!

A couple missed opportunities to mention:
- BAR was introduced in the last month or so of WWI.
I love my 30-06 and my rifle loves 180 grain and it is a great 1000 yard rifle for how long it been on the market
You forgot to mention something major!!!!! Barrel life!!!!! 30/06, what 5,000 rounds...Prc's and creedmoors....what??? 1500 rounds!!
Love these talks
Still use the 30-06 today!
Not gonna lie ... these fookers know their shit. Hats off.
I'd love to see you do an episode on the 7x57. Perhaps y'all could get SAAMI to approve a +P loaded to about 65k psi?
If it was good enough for Teddy Roosevelt it’s good enough for me! Even Jack O’Conner admitted it was a much more versatile cartridge!
And even O'Conner said he'd rather have a 30-06 over the 270 for most of his hunts
Ordered a M1 Garand from the CMP so I am researching 30-06. I’ll be using Hornady 150gr bullets.

@ronlowney4700 35 whelen is a cartridge like the 358 winchester. Never enough love. Within 300 yards probably the best choice on bear, elk, moose, large deer. Or as a 1 gun option for Canadian hunters.
😃 I Couldn't Agree More! Except, I Would Say to 400 yards! 🎯

270 is a great cartridge, but frankly it's not NEARLY as versatile as the 30-06, it's just not
30-06 is the single most versatile do-it-all cartridge for North American big game, hands down
270 is a great flat shooting round, great for deer and real big game like Elk/Bear ECT out to 3 mabey 400yds but i really prefer a bigger heavier 30cal bullet for those longer pokes on those bigger animals, 180gr ect.
Next you need to talk about the '06 family.
Those are coming!
🤗 Glad to Here It! 🥳
🇺🇸Winchester Model 70 (Pre-64’s) in 30-06 Springfield are absolute treasures…just saying.🇺🇸
I appreciate the history of the 06 but in modern rifles and modern propellants and with bullets like the 165 cx I’ve seen load data that puts that bullet at 3000 FPS .. the 06 is as relevant today as it has ever been
It's awesome, hot load, safe tho, no pressure signs
I'm surprised that nothing was mentioned about Hornady's Light Magnum loading in 30-06 with 180 gr Interlock bullet. If I remember correctly it boosted the velocity by 200 fps and came close to 7mm mag. performance. I found it to be an excellent elk load.
I think it has been replaced by the Superformance line of ammo...
Good cartridge, I’ve never found a need or want to own one though.
I killed my first elk with a 30/06. Great round! I have a Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster that I have played around with. I loaded 180 grain Nosler Partitions with H4831SC. After listening to the podcast, is there a better powder to try?

Still looking for the 260 podcast.
Why cant Hornady make a economical 30-06 ball round for the Garand? We have to go to corrosive or PPU.
CMP recommends not to exceed 50,000 psi chamber pressure for the Garand and 03.
Hornady has a section on Garand ammo. Important to recognize and stick with that.

i have 308 & 300wm, i need something in the middle an it is 3006.
'06 is not the middle,it covers both very well, check out a reloading manual.
I have 10 books for reloading.
3006 cant cover 300wm, but i think 3006 covers all my hunting scenarios. i shoot with 300 wm 212eldx at 2880 fps.
What is punch?
The answer that stops Charging Lions Tigers and Bears in there tracks
The answer that makes the 06 fly farther without dropping
Is the Angle on nose of the Bullet acts as wedge and opens a 8 inch hole if you watch
in slow motion.
it also hydroplanes on lower denser air to not drop like math maticians say.
Like air plane wing.
To shoot 1000 yards 7 mm mag vs 06
7 mm mag is dialing up 14 feet to go from 300 yards to 1000
so if we are dialed at 200 yards shooting 2 foot plates every 100 yards
the 06 does not have to dial up .
not even with old M1 Garand
Then theres the 308 doing same speed as 06 2700fps
but if you put your chrongraph at 300 yards the 06 is doing 300 feet per second Higher.
This was proven in the 60s Thats why it out ranges the 300 mags .
if you look at reloaders today with a custom Rifle and Muzzle brake theres a us sniper Shooting R22 and 190 and 210 Berger Bullet at 2900 with 0 signs of over pressure
Same 2 guys are saying you cant over pressure a 06 shell not even topping off shells and compacting powder with slug .
I would never do that just because the kick
but mostly factory ammo 06 tops at 57 grains
most load the IMR powder to 60 Grains and its comfortable shooting 180 at
2800-2900 feet per second.
Thats my Grizzley load .
and killed 2 Big Grizzleys and huge Kodiak Charging and 1 shot each stopped them in there tracks
All you have to do to see what I see is not shim the scope on 7mm mag
youl be looking at target being daylighted at bottom of front of scope and hitting
where as the 06 top of target is still touching cross hair and still hitting Flater is never Better
thats why the 50 cal was designed 3 times bigger to same 2700 feet per second
with little case size changes to function in Machine Gun
