The World's Shortest Airbus A380 Route Is Changing Again...

In mid-March, it was reported that Emirates would return the Airbus A380 to its Dubai-Riyadh route on April 1st, which it did. It became the world's shortest scheduled passenger service for the Airbus A380. However, having this title was short-lived. As a reminder of how quickly things can and do change, there have been more developments since then, with an even shorter service coming, albeit with extremely few flights.

My shortest flight on the A380 Was from IAH - DXB With emirates. I was a transit passenger at DXB as i needed to go to DEL. Emirates is popular to connect DEL - IAH Via DXB.

Asiana is desperate for money and Seoul-Osaka is a very high demand Route
If Haneda Airport could accomodate the A380 they would have used the A380 in the high demand GMP-HND route as well

DXB-JED undoubtedly is carrying a high fraction of pilgrims throughout the year on their way to Makkah and Medina. Unsurprising that they need 3 flights per day.
Interestingly, DXB-RUH is most likely THE most densely packed route in the world for management consultants. There isn't any other city pair in the world where so many consultants live in one city and serve clients in the other city. The sheer number of blue suits, laptops and Tumi/Rimowa luggage seen on a Sunday/Monday outbound and Thursday return is a sight to behold.

Great insight. Surprised at the management consultants, how does that work? Would’ve thought the Saudis would’ve encouraged them to live local & boost the economy not commute from UAE? Are they mainly western expats not happy with standard of living in Saudi? Surprised they travel in a world where everything is remote. Only ever seen it myself in China/Vietnam full of American suits in airports on weekly trips.

@@d.b.cooper1 with Saudization quotas it's impossible to move staff to Riyadh until you've employed a huge bunch of locals. So it's easier to keep staff in Dubai and fly in. The different labor policies do not always support the best outcome for KSA so things will need to be refined.

@@zunaidparker Ah, fascinating stuff. I guess it makes sense from a Saudi perspective cause unlike the other gulf nations they have a huge young population that's still moving into the tertiary sector. Huge trade off with easy fast growth I guess, but arguably the right move for the long run if they want to train & grow their own workforce. Personally always wanted to drive Riyadh-UAE across the empty quarter, looks great fun. Alas I'm a lesuire traveller not business haha.

There's an A380 parked at Prestwick International Airport (PIK) at the moment. It's owned by Global Airlines but it's still got the China Southern Livery on it.
