I believe that the lyrics are introspective, like a conversation with oneself. I could be wrong about that, but it is the way I understand it. For that reason it is profound enough to give me chills. Not to mention the melodies and synth, along with Vessel's voice, are beautiful.
If you think of this song as a man talking to himself in the mirror it starts to click as someone who has always struggled with self love this song hits me hard every time
I'm recently listening this song again. At the beginning, it was a total "no" for me, same with euclid. As a spanish speaker, I was just listening the melody at first, but after reading the lyrics, this one is the only one that makes me cry. I feel everything about this song and even now, after years, my depression continues, and I don't feel like it has a cure and I feel like I've lost a lot of time already. Definitely a grower like other comments says. Hope to see more products of Vessel's brilliant mind.
As an electronic pop artist discovering Sleep Token and listening to the full album this song actually warmed my heart the most. I love all of the songs in their own unique way but this one felt special because of the direction that I came to Sleep Token. I’d never really been a metal fan but could appreciate the musicality and art. Sleep Token unlocked something, opened a door and blew my mind because they were all I ever wanted in a metal sound I just didn’t know it. They had more singing, melody, pop and even Jazz in their sound and I finally felt a deeper connection to metal that I’d always wished I could have but it hadn’t really clicked for me the way it had for my metal loving friends growing up. To then hear them make something like this was so satisfying because it feels like they also understand the world of music that I came from and I can really admire the skill it takes to touch on such different genres so well, and also the authenticity and courage it takes to make something that is out of the box and not what the core audience would expect. What they make really is art. The story in this song, the meaning behind it, and the emotion in Vessels voice is what makes it impactful, just because they can go hella heavy doesn’t mean they have to. Long comment but I wanted to write it even to better understand my own thoughts. Thanks for your reaction Taylor and thanks to ST🖤🎶⚡️Worship 🙏🏽
If you're thinking about that Imogen Heap song, I have a Sleep Token song for you: Fall For Me It's a great song and it provides a musical touchstone and history for this song. I dig the channel. Keep doin' what you're doin'!
This is more than i was expecting. Wow i love this music. Fav new band right now. Thanks for showing us i want to hear more of sleep token. The songs i have heard are so unique and refreshing.
This song becomes good when you realize That the song is about the guy talking to himself. Like imagine this person singing this song into the mirror looking at himself or herself. Sleep tokens lyrics are so incredibly deep that's even songs like these are just diamonds.
After a few listens this song really turns into something else. The more you get a chance to listen to the entire album from start to end the more you appreciate where and why each song is the way it is.
It looks like a heart with many thorns or many imperfections (but can be protection from being hurt) and a mask that everybody else sees but at heart he rejects himself believing face value covers his humanity and is a person hard on himself
I think this song is kinda tame musically because it has some of the deeper lyrics on the album. I almost see it as a pumped up kicks vibe where it sounds just routine poppy but the substance in it has a really important message about imposter syndrome and depression but it doesn't necessarily sound like it
I'm late to this party, and still kinda new to Sleep Token, and while I REALLY like what I've heard so far, this one didn't hit with me like everything else has to this point, but maybe it will grow on me. Meanwhile, "The Summoning" has got its hooks in me. Definitely looking forward to the new album. Loved "This Place Will Become Your Tomb" and can't wait for the new material.
For me and probably I’m in the minority, but I loved the song the first time I’ve heard it. Btw the animal bones as actually metal as hell, I love it 😂
I think he truly doesn't love himself this song is a song about himself trying too understand love how it works how it feels why it's the way it is so painful too love yourself and can't even live anyone
How about updated reactions? I'd like to see reactions after people listen to new songs more. Like Aqua Regia grew on everyone and some say it ended up being their favorite.
They can't all be Zingers. It's different but also formulaic. It might grow on me but i kinda doubt it. Album songs are like this though not hits, not filler but just there on the album and so be it. 🙂
@Taylor's Odyssey (Taylor Marie) There aren't many people in this world that are my kind of weird, so wanted to suggest it to you. There is this band from Milan, Italy called Destrage, who's song "Italian Boi" has a video done in AI. I thought you might really like it. Let me know if you do. 😁
This entire song reminds of the end of The summonning: I just can't stand the "dryness" of the mix. This makes the song feel bland and empty when it's not, and prevent it from having bigger dynamics which would correct the monotonous vibe. Such a missed opportunity 🥲
I think in context of this being Vessel talking to himself the monotonous nature really fits the theme. It kind of underlines the lack of emotion. On higher level he knows he needs to love himself to really love someone else, but he's been trying it so long there's no emotion or surprises left anymore. It's monotonous repeat of the intent without much real progress.
Well, I have to say I didn't like this song at all... Sounds to me like a cheap mtv song, but that must be because I'm an old bast*rd... I would love to see that sculpture when it'll be done (sadly, I'm not on insta 😢)
i mean this song has a bigger meaning other, i dont think they cared about the song more about the message, they had this type of songs on other types of albums
@@zephyr8465 I understand, the lyrics are cool, but I can't listen to music if the music doesn't get to me, I like Sleep Token in general, just this song, it was so flat to me...

Nice to see you on Sleep Token again 🖤 I'm so excited for the album, probably the most excited I've been for an album in years!

I felt the same way at first…. Then I looked at the lyrics, this song is peak
agree favorite chill sleep token song. sad as hell to me. still love it
I picture him standing in front of a mirror singing to his reflection because I do the same
Awesome your reacting to sleep token💯🤘
Another band you should check out is Future Palace, they just released a new single named Malphas and it slaps! You'll definitely like it :D

He wants to love himself but sees every imperfection and failure with relationships in himself and internal though that directs self indignation.
I think the monster is a heart, maybe Im wrong but not one of their songs are bad imo, I couldnt bring myself to hate a song from them if you paid me.
animal bones are aesthetically very Sleep Token
Looks like some eldritch heart monster with some holes in it with the way light passes through.
For me and probably I’m in the minority, but I loved the song the first time I’ve heard it. Btw the animal bones as actually metal as hell, I love it 😂
catchy beat .. .from swing era to metal .. that's Sleep Token
We need the rest of the record to understand this song
This totally could have been a song on the Changes album by Justin Beiber.
I think it’s best to listen to sleep token with as few expectations as possible 😂
Haha felt exacly the same listening to it first time
I think he truly doesn't love himself this song is a song about himself trying too understand love how it works how it feels why it's the way it is so painful too love yourself and can't even live anyone
Not sure but we do know we mutually love Substructure- Tristis
Very low key, especially after ‘Vore’ & ‘The Summoning’. I’m wondering if there’s context with this song in relation to the other songs on the album…
(Like maybe the song is kinda ‘meh’ on its own, but when listened to as part of the whole album, you’re like “Ah. Now it makes sense.”)
After multiple listens, I love this song! It's going to be a great break in the album, IMO.

Did You Waste The Yummy Lemon Meringue???
😂 I would never

As Sleep Token does, their point is to relay emotions, not make songs be catchy just for being catchy.
