Lost my dad in 2010. He was a mechanic, nothing he couldn't fix. I bought my first sled off him (el Tigre 5000, 79). We had a couple Prowlers in the early 90s, then a ZR 580. This channel has helped me remember some good times I had with that man. Thanks for the retrieval of memories man. Buy more sleds!
Absolute score man! Make sure those kuni's are tuned and synced. Run her hard and hot for only short periods. keep it cool as you can. The PRS and F chassis's are my fav Bomby's. The Bomby twins run the best "right to the bar" for short periods. The triples are more heat sensitive, but that sound is awsome! Clean her up and be proud of yur new sled. Thanks for sharing.
sweeet deal. im loving the triple triple content, brand doesnt matter. They just dont make them like this anymore and the have such a strong powerband and great sound out of factory triple pipes. Next up you gotta find a SRX 700!
Cool vid my good sir, the 90s triples were a magical time in snomobile history . They are still affordable and great cheap fun! I've been a polaris guy since the 80s and have owned many, before that our family owned many 70s cats and still have a really clean 78 panther like yours in the vid! I would like to Still find a clean 96 ZRT triple cat. Thanks for keeping the 90s triple craze alive! Verry informative and your light added humor add to the commentary perfectly. You have a great collection of the golden years of sleds! Like my dad used to say ! Put down the bottle and get on the throttle. and let's get our knees in breeze! Lol. Miss him alot. Thanks my friend
Amazing! When you got the XLT, I thought "wouldn't it be neat if...." and now here it is. Love these old 90s sleds, and what you're doing with the channel. Keep up the great work!
Rave valves were around by the first Mach 1 I believe. They are easy. Just flip the wire retainer up and pull them out carefully. There’s a spring and a bellows inside. Make sure the bellows isn’t ripped and clean the valve like you would with any other sled
I'm really enjoying your videos. The three cylinder snowmobiles of this era are awesome. I'm a Polaris fan myself and own many triples, but all manufacturers had amazing triples. Thanks for putting this content out there and keep up the good work. 👍
Turn the idle down until it idles around 16-1700rpm. If the idle doesn't change play with the air screws. RAVE valves are super easy. Rotate the wire retainer off, there is a spring inside the plastic cup that will go flying if you don't remove it slowly. 2 Allen heads and the whole assembly comes out. Clean the carbon off, put a new gasket on it and throw it back together. If you hold the plastic on the bellow(it is hex) and unscrew the guillotine to remove it from the housing/bellow.
Heck yeah Rocky love this reminds me of my early motorcycle riding days picking up what ever cheap bike i could find most of em 80s and 90s and 99% of the time the carbs just need a good going over to get em to run
Beautiful...congratulations amazing how you're getting these beauties for $200...love all those triples from all brands...yes great content do more vids so happy to see these triple muscle sleds being saved they are so unique and IMO the best looking and sounding sleds ever.
Thats one cool Formula 3 long track is rare here in upstate NY. Ski doo had power valves on the 583 89 mach 1. Then the mach Z then carried over to all there triples and big twins. Love ur content idea of reliving the 90’s great idea. It would be fun to see todays sleds race these old triples also. big twins against each other and against the triples. If u could find a 95 670 mach 1 with twin piped long track be cool or MXZ 670ho. 700 twin piped wild cat in the ZR chassis or the ZR 700 with single. Both the ZR 700 and doo 670 were iconic kinda ahead of there time. Always thought they were kinda over shadowed by the triples until people caught on the big twin advantage. Ur doing great one of my favorite snowmobile content to watch now very entertaining. Thanks for the awesome content.
I owned a Formula III 600 in 2011. Stupid fast sled but the suspension left a lot to be desired. I drove 6 hours to pick up a Triton enclosed trailer that I got a deal on and the sled came free with the trailer. Went through the carbs and rode it for the 2011/2012 season then sold it for what I paid for the trailer at the beginning of the next season.
I was a mechanic at the skidoo dealership in yukon when these came out , awesome sled , my buddy modified his for the alcan 200 race , 135 mph on radar .
Pop the covers off the RAVE valves & make sure the are not stuck, you should be able to move them in & out a little easily. If not you will need to pull them out & clean them, they work similar to arctic cats APV valves. Put the covers back on & adjust the red centers with a flat head screw driver so they are flush with the black part of the covers. That sets the tension on the valves. That's kind of a happy medium, if you want a little more low end grunt turn the red centers in. Make sure all three are set the same. Great score Rocky.
Keep bringing back the glory days man. Personally, I've seen that 79 Panther in a couple vids and I'd like to hear that old 500 Kawasaki engine running. Bring me back to my youth (first sled I rode). It looks mint! I've always loved Cats, currently riding a 06 Crossfire 700 twin. Nothing sounds like a Cat!
The 1995.5 model was limited production, it had a sand cast motor that made more power due to the rough casting. If you ever come across one, buy it, they had ported cylinders from the factory. My buddy had one and it was a screamer, the 1996 model was quite a bit slower but still fast. Those engines have long legs on a lake.
Heck ya love this kind of video. Im my neck of the woods people would be trying to get $1000 dollars for that sled, even non running. Even with pretty much no snow this winter ppl want gold for sleds in mn
If I'm not mistaken ski doo were the first to use the power valves on snowmobiles, I have a 1992 MX 470 with the 583 formula plus engine on it , if I'm not mistaken they started using them in the late 80s
I had the pleasure to ride the 95 very limited build that a buddy of mine was able to buy new. I was a die hard cat guy I had the 93 700 Wildcat and they were pretty much dead even !
Cool sled great find, my uncle had one of those new when I was a kid, it was a screamer on a trail(although is was definitely not a mountain sled lol) I really want to find one someday
Take those raves out, and at least clean them up, the red dial in the middle, turn them in tight, I've ran those both ways, it will be happier with the airbox, engines last longer too. That was a steal for 200 bucks!
Those are RAVE valves. They change the position and shape of the exhaust ports to make more power. It’s also got reed valves which you can change the timing on and make more power, but that 600 triple will absolutely rip.. tge RAVE valves are why 2 stroke rotax motors make so much power
Sucking alot of air , part of your high idle . Get carbs cleaned better and adj. Good old sled , my buddy has one , he loves it . Fast for the year . 👍
Now you HAVE to weigh that thing!!! I had a 99 zrt 600, clutched, piped, paddle track. That thing would stare at the sky as long as you could hang on to keep it pinned!! My father had a formula 3 600 and it felt like a TANK compared to my zrt..... genuinely curious as to what the difference is??
Northern crankshaft in thief river falls mn have a case for a zrt triple 2-stroke motor at 1,750cc not joking. If you can dream it they can build it. They can build a custom crankshaft to put two motors together. Imagine the potential
only bad thing about those engines are they were known for crankshaft bearings. and pto bearing lube issues. you can drill the cases to address the issue.
love all the triples but those 600 rotax triples blew up alot i think there was an issue with oil not getting to some of the crank bearings good luck though
my buddy had a f3 it blew up first u.p. michigan trip lol and loaner did the samr thing another f3 lol bad luck. i had same sled but 580 fz never let me down. great trail sleds
Good guy, don't care Polaris, Arctic Cat or a Ski-Doo. It appear your a Cat guy. But who doesn't love a good ole Triple Triple. Especially for only $200. and some starter fluid.
To check if it's running on all three cylinders, lick your finger and touch all three pipes if you aren't sure. My neighbor has a 98 mach 1 700 triple and put a steel crank in it 18 years ago, BRP said you can't do that and it still runs lmao. Better then the junk plastic crank they put in it 😅
Grab every triple you can I enjoy these videos very very much them formula 3 set uped right just fly you need to look for some formula plus and mach 1 and if you ever see a plus x mach I x grab it there about full out race machines another is the 96 mxzx 440 very very fast for a 440 then there the blizzards
I bought a yamaha 600 triple one month ago and found out the next day that the chain case has a hole in it, one bolt had broken from the drive shaft and eaten it way out the chain case. Luckily I found a spare part and got it to work perfectly now. Just tells you about yamaha quality when the chain has been spinning there without oil for who knows how long time

Sounds like your dad was a great guy, glad you still have a passion for the sport. Thanks for watching!
200 dollars for it an your worried about compression dude was even annoyed lol

I appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching!
Triples were amazing. You can’t get that feeling from anything today.
I grew up on a triple...and my ole man had one. I have a 1200 ski doo and it pulls every bit of the old triples. Maybe more.
Amazing! When you got the XLT, I thought "wouldn't it be neat if...." and now here it is. Love these old 90s sleds, and what you're doing with the channel. Keep up the great work!
Love this guy keep em coming boss!!😊
Rave valves were around by the first Mach 1 I believe. They are easy. Just flip the wire retainer up and pull them out carefully. There’s a spring and a bellows inside. Make sure the bellows isn’t ripped and clean the valve like you would with any other sled
Got appreciate anybody that loves old snowmobile’s as much as I do I love those 90s and those triples😊

Great find. Love those old triples. Really miss my old Thundercat now.
Wasn't much smoke .
Make sure oil injection is working
Beautiful...congratulations amazing how you're getting these beauties for $200...love all those triples from all brands...yes great content do more vids so happy to see these triple muscle sleds being saved they are so unique and IMO the best looking and sounding sleds ever.
Love the content, I think you have the fever for all old sleds. The rave valves are easy to clean, replace the O rings and gaskets.
Thats one cool Formula 3 long track is rare here in upstate NY.

There's like 6 in my area for sell from 700 to 1500
Really enjoying your channel. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching!!
Dude you stole that sled for $200 , I live in Pennsylvania and that sled would have sold for $1800 the way it was
In Minnesota those go for anything from 800 to 2000. I've had 4 of them myself. Fun sleds
Canada here that sled is worth like 500- 1200 all done up there is so much of them around here
I owned a Formula III 600 in 2011. Stupid fast sled but the suspension left a lot to be desired. I drove 6 hours to pick up a Triton enclosed trailer that I got a deal on and the sled came free with the trailer. 90s sleds are my favorite. It was a fantastic time to be a rider. I'm forever grateful I was able to experience that time in my prime.
Couldn't agree more!
For $200 Why even ask any questions just load it up as long as there's no hole in the case and it turns over freely.
I was a mechanic at the skidoo dealership in yukon when these came out , awesome sled , my buddy modified his for the alcan 200 race , 135 mph on radar .

I love that 79 panther! Thanks for watching!
i have owned 3 triple through out the years !! I Love the sound of the triples man! You scored hard dude HARD
Great content, actually rebuilding that very sled in my shop. Triple are cool, love the 440s race sled.
The 1995.5 model was limited production, it had a sand cast motor that made more power due to the rough casting. If you ever come across one, buy it, they had ported cylinders from the factory. My buddy had one and it was a screamer, the 1996 model was quite a bit slower but still fast. Those engines have long legs on a lake.
awesome love these videos, don't find any deals like that where I live
Thanks for watching!
Heck ya love this kind of video. Im my neck of the woods people would be trying to get $1000 dollars for that sled, even non running. Even with pretty much no snow this winter ppl want gold for sleds in mn
Running high like that sounds like air is getting in. Definitely check the head gasket. I learned the hard way.
If I'm not mistaken ski doo were the first to use the power valves on snowmobiles, I have a 1992 MX 470 with the 583 formula plus engine on it , if I'm not mistaken they started using them in the late 80s
200$ for this …. My good lord…. You just became my Hero! It’s worth 3000$ in Quebec
I had the pleasure to ride the 95 very limited build that a buddy of mine was able to buy new. I was a die hard cat guy I had the 93 700 Wildcat and they were pretty much dead even !
Any idea why it’s revs to 4 grand with choke? Mine does the same thing except mines a 97 Mach 1 700cc
The carburetor intake boots were cracked and sucking in air. I replaced them at it fixed it👍
@@OldSchoolArcticCats that’s what I thought too but my carb boots aren’t cracked
Awesome content! Now you just need to pick up a redhead or bluehead Yamaha triple, SRX 600 maybe?
so awosome man love the show keep em commin
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
$200! What a steal.
I bought the same thing for 399
Clutch engagement is 4500-5000 rpm and 1800-2000 idle rpm
Cool sled great find, my uncle had one of those new when I was a kid, it was a screamer on a trail(although is was definitely not a mountain sled lol)
I really want to find one someday
Keep finding those triples!!
The power valves started in 1989. Maybe before that. Ski Doo was the first.
And yes keep on picking up old sleds and keep making great videos
Thanks for watching!
Atta boy Rocky!! Love the vids man
Take those raves out, and at least clean them up, the red dial in the middle, turn them in tight, I've ran those both ways, it will be happier with the airbox, engines last longer too. That was a steal for 200 bucks!
Saw an Alloute Super Brute 340 today - rather nice shape
Just picked up a skidoo mach 1 that has a 600 triple runs with registration paid $700 for it from a buddy of mine
Those are RAVE valves. They change the position and shape of the exhaust ports to make more power. It’s also got reed valves which you can change the timing on and make more power, but that 600 triple will absolutely rip.. tge RAVE valves are why 2 stroke rotax motors make so much power
I should say Rotary valve not Reed valves
Never ever use starting fluid in a two cycle.
Hope you gave that guy at least a $100 tip.
Keep an oil can with 2 stroke mix for first starts or hard to start anyth
Skidoo had power valves in the late 80’s.
89 Mach 1 583 was the first
Sucking alot of air , part of your high idle .
Get carbs cleaned better and adj.
Good old sled , my buddy has one , he loves it . Fast for the year . 👍
Heating the body to get the pullout is an old school trick. Works well
I had a 1997 Mach Z 800 Triple LT Long Track and that was the best sled and Crazy fast !
I love the old iron sleds I grew up riding those old dinosaurs
What was that white stuff in the background at the beginning of the video?
Now you HAVE to weigh that thing!!! I had a 99 zrt 600, clutched, piped, paddle track. That thing would stare at the sky as long as you could hang on to keep it pinned!! My father had a formula 3 600 and it felt like a TANK compared to my zrt..... genuinely curious as to what the difference is??
good god, I wish I could find a deal like that on an old school sled....enjoy
Power valves ski doos advantage.keep em clean brother.
Love the channel. I have a few triples myself. Two 95 storms, two 96 ultras, a turbo XLT and a 94 RXL.
Those Polaris triples are awesome. Thanks for watching!
Now you need a 90s yammy triple….and srx would be sweet
I love those old SRXs and the 1997 Vmax SX 700 with the Ohlins shocks.
Northern crankshaft in thief river falls mn have a case for a zrt triple 2-stroke motor at 1,750cc not joking. If you can dream it they can build it. They can build a custom crankshaft to put two motors together. Imagine the potential
Wow dude great deal wax her up make here shine.👍
Too many questions. Pay the man $200 and leave, its a $200 sled.
He was a nice guy for holding it for you most people would of sold it to the highest bidder I know it's happened to me.
Truly one of my dream sleds
Oh man old buddy had one. He just needed the matching purple leather suit.
Just can't be scared of working them, good deal.
I would love to find a sled like that
only bad thing about those engines are they were known for crankshaft bearings. and pto bearing lube issues. you can drill the cases to address the issue.
good score the track alone is worth more than 200 bucks
power values in 97 as well 115 out of the box
I own a 95 xcr 600, 98 800 storm 98 srx 700 ans 02 1000 thundercat.
Triples for life!
love all the triples but those 600 rotax triples blew up alot i think there was an issue with oil not getting to some of the crank bearings good luck though
Crazy thats a 2000 here in nova scotia
Man you guys get good deals in the states
I used to have a 98 formula III 700 triple looked almost identical to that one.
my buddy had a f3 it blew up first u.p. michigan trip lol and loaner did the samr thing another f3 lol bad luck. i had same sled but 580 fz never let me down. great trail sleds
Good guy, don't care Polaris, Arctic Cat or a Ski-Doo. It appear your a Cat guy. But who doesn't love a good ole Triple Triple. Especially for only $200. and some starter fluid.
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Great channel
3 dudes loading that anchor. I used to do it solo..just realizing what kinda beast i was. 😂😂😂
Now you just need to score a Yamaha SRX 600 or 700 to finish off your 90's triple collection. That would be impressive!
We have our eyes out for a nice Yamaha worthy of the challenge. Thanks for watching!
Need a Yamaha triple now
I think ther the first with powervalves like 93 maybe 92 ther just like polaris liberty motors.
Ultra sonic cleaner works great for that instead of over heating the carb body
They had power valves in 1989
i think you got yourself a killer deal there mister.
WD-40 works as starting fluid and it lubricates.
Get with the 90's. I never left. (Life or snowmobile lol)
Rave velve has diagram and spring make sure it's not stuck
To check if it's running on all three cylinders, lick your finger and touch all three pipes if you aren't sure. My neighbor has a 98 mach 1 700 triple and put a steel crank in it 18 years ago, BRP said you can't do that and it still runs lmao. Better then the junk plastic crank they put in it 😅
I had two of those a 600 identical to this one and a 700 and I'll tell you first hand flat out ran my my triple thunder cats
In canada that's a 2500 dollar sled all day
You should never use starting fluid in a snowmobile motor
Jesus just pay the man .
I have a 1994 arctic cat zrt 440 not running I have to put gas down the silder
Grab every triple you can I enjoy these videos very very much them formula 3 set uped right just fly you need to look for some formula plus and mach 1 and if you ever see a plus x mach I x grab it there about full out race machines another is the 96 mxzx 440 very very fast for a 440 then there the blizzards
I will keep an eye out. Thanks for watching!
I had a 98 Formula 700 tripple. Thing was nasty.
Next is a Yamaha 600 triple and you’ll be able to compare the big four!
