KitchenAid Dishwasher doesn’t wash

- My KitchenAid dishwasher (KDFE104DSS2) starting having issues washing dishes. The buttons would respond as usual and it would fill, but would never start the wash. It would eventually drop the detergent pod into the basin, and continue to fill and drain, but rarely would the washing start (the spray arms). I found that opening and closing it would sometimes get the washing to start, but it was getting worse and worse. In the end, I would run it only when hanging around the kitchen for a few hours to keep opening and closing it whenever it would fail to start running.
The telltale sign was it not making any noise after the water filled, and only relay clicking sounds. This was the pump motor for the sprayers not responding to the signal from the control panel. The issue is related to the graphite bearings, which wear out, preventing the motor from spinning correctly, resulting in it seizing up.
I found a replacement “Whirlpool WPW10605057 Dishwasher Pump and Motor Assembly” on Amazon (through a 3rd Party seller), which was the correct part for my KitchenAid washer. It took me about 2 hours to replace, going slowly and stopping to record these clips. The only tools I used were: standard screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, and some angled adjusted pliers (to adjust the feet and to loosen the spring clamps on the drain hoses).
Video was well done. This video helped me diagnose the same problem I had. I would hear the clicks too. I will get a replacement part and have my dishwasher running soon .Cheers
Glad it helped other people out. Seems like a common failure part.
Thanks for the excellent video! Just curious, how old was your dw when it failed?
Mine was 6 years old based odd the manufacturing date on bottom of unit.
Gabe. Thank you very much for the tutorial on this. I have the same exact one. Been in and out these past few months and it just went kaput tonight. Already ordered the part! Will follow up when I get the part!!
Glad I could help. The repair is straight forward and much cheaper than buying a new dishwasher. It’s just a shame these aren’t built to last anymore.
Got the part. Everything went as planned!!!!!! The toughest part was getting the assembly gasket seated. I got it lined up while it was on its side and tipped it upright. Then I gently pushed it down from inside and locked the tabs. Doing a wash now and so far so good. Thank you for the video and the part ect!!! It’s very simple task. Got part from Amazon and it was 165. Cheaper than a service call!!! Thanks again!!!!
@@mustangcircut awesome! Congrats on having a working dishwasher again. It feels great.
Did you happen to pull an error code?
I tried to reenact the testing procedure and I had no luck. Mine was doing the exact same thing so that pretty much solved the problem.
Thanks for the video, I seem to be having the same issue. My model number is KDTE104DSS0 the inside looks likes yours. The outside a bit diff. Should be the same part I would think.
This link claims the same part number I ordered works on your dishwasher:
www.partselect.com/PS11756692-Whirlpool-WPW10605057-Dishwasher-Pump-and-Motor-Assembly.htm
But this price seems too high. Shop around. Here is the one I bought on Amazon:

Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Curious, did you run the KitchenAid diagnostic mode? I have symptoms similar to what you describe here, but the diagnostic mode isn't throwing back any error codes. It seems if the wash motor (sump pump) isn't working, it should give a 4-3 code for the wash motor not running(?).
I have had the same issues. I replaced the motor assembly as you did. Still the same problem. It fill and drains water normally but it does not circulate. Any idea?
It fixed my issue. Did you reconnect the wire harness to your new motor assembly?
@@gabecanova yes I did. I also connected my old pump directly to 120v and it worked just fine. Somehow it seems the control board does not send power to the pump. I had tried a new control board before, it was working intermittently and randomly.
I hear clicks during the was cycle but circulation pump does not turn on
@@alexmarvin52i feel like me and you are gaving the same issue
Did you ever have a whining noise at all?
I did not.
