I followed your video and replaced the water fill valve on our KitchenAid dishwasher and now it works again!! Thank you, Scott! You saved me hundreds of $$$ on hiring a repairman!
Technician quoted $300 to fix the dishwasher. Literally watched just this video and fixed it myself. Followed step by step and now I have a working dishwasher again. Thank you so much for posting this!
Oh, man, my Kitchenaid dishwasher has been acting up for a day or two. The unit was not filling with water. In this video, the second thing you checked was the float under the utensil rack. When I checked mine, I found a large hard plastic straw holding the float open. I removed it, reset the unit and chose the run cycle and voila! It filled with water and works! You just saved me $1000! God bless you!
I had just changed the solenoid and still didn't get water. Thanks for pointing out the float valve. Had a spoon under it. Now I have a spare valve. Thank you, again.
Thanks for the easy video! I’m thrilled to not have to change this part YET! It was my float that was propped up by a broken wheel from the bottom drawer!
Great tutorial! Thought I was going to have to get a repair done or a new dishwasher as we weren't getting any water. After reading some of the comments on this, I discovered I had a knife under the float valve & once removed, all worked back as normal again!
I found a broken off bottom rack wheel under my float, that should definitely be the first thing to check! So easy! Ordered new wheel and my 20 year old dishwasher is better than a new one!
Great video! I was able to troubleshoot and replace the water fill valve on our KitchenAid dishwasher which resolved our issue (soap not dissolving, not totally filling with water). Thank you so much for posting this content!!!
great tutorial! I cleaned the mesh in on the fill valve (before buying a new one) where the water line comes in and everything worked! No need to buy a new part!
Thank you! Had already checked the supply valve, but a minute into the video you checked the float - hey, so THAT is what that is. Checked it, there was a fork under it holding it up. Gah! So fixed, fast and cheap. 14 year old KichenAid too.,
Thank you ronboe! I had been looking at dishwashers online when my husband told me to search on the problem and I found Scott, he is great by the way, so easy to see what he is doing, but your comment is what made me go look at the float and mine had a spoon under it! It works now! Sigh, I am so glad I get to keep my Kitchenaide, I wasn't going to pay a thousand dollars for another one. Thank you @@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel !
With mine, After talking to my youngest ( the Geek guy) I listened and thought I heard the click on valve, so I assumed it was trying.. As a "try", I shut water off and undid the water inlet feed then I used the bristle end of a battery terminal cleaner- gently scrubbing inside the valve. Son said Newer dishwashers have a check valve in the drain valve that sends a signal allowing the fill valve to engage. Mine does not have that feature but He did have me run 3 coffee jugs of vvery hot water and forcing the drain cycle each time. This he said would clean out any grease ect that could be impeding operation. Put it back together and Mine ran like new and had much better sound during drain cycle. I cleaned the screen filter while I had it off checking for debris in pump sump area also.. I have run 4 cycles.:)))
Fantastic, replaced the inlet valve in less than an hour thanks to this video! Any suggestions on how to repair a rusting end on the upper basket? Thank you 😁
Perfect video! Your step-by-step instructions were on point. I watched it through, then watched it and wrote down the steps, then referred to it several times during the replacement. I'm running the dishwasher now and I actually hear water!!! And no leaks!
I had the same problem where the dishwasher was not filling up with water. I had added the water like you told me to and the cup was filled up. Before I started taking apart the dishwasher I unplugged it and plugged it back in just to see what happens. I guess that’s all my dishwasher needed was a reset because it started to work again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Apparently, my dishwasher needed a restart too! Had I not read this comment I would have ordered and installed a new circulation pump!! Gold star for you! ⭐️
*** I changed the water inlet valve and still no water. Turns out my feed line was clogged with debris right before the water inlet valve. No idea how that debris got in there.
Scott, first off thank you! Great and helpful video. I do have a question. I can hear and feel the fill valve working but at a point a minute or so in it just stops. Like there is a blockage. In doing the water test of filling the cup no water appeared. What would be the next order of operations? Clean the fill valve? Is there a line that runs from it that could have a block somewhere? If so, how to fix that one? Thanks again in advance for your help!
Great video! Quick question: if I feel water on both the stainless steel hose and the black hose connected to each side of the inlet valve, is it still possible that the valve is the issue as to why I barely see any water in the dishwasher after testing with a rinse cycle?
It can mean either that the fill valve is no longer letting in enough water to wash the dishes or it could mean that the circulation pump is either partially clogged with debris or is worn out and doesn’t push the water hard enough through the spray arms to fill up the glass during the test. The most common problem I’ve seen is that the fill valve is worn out and no longer let in enough water during the fill cycle.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Thanks for the reply. I have just replaced the water valve. Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the issue. Let me look into the circulation pump.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannelwhere would the circulation pump be? I just ordered my fill valve to try the order of operations first. I am having the no water comming out issues
I took apart the water fill valve and cleaned it -- I tested it a few times with my finger - seemed aok. There were no obstructions -- no silverware etc. Put it back together -- put dishwasher on rinse cycle - heard the sound of water spraying for about 10 seconds or so -- then nothing. No more water. What is my next step?
I changed my inlet valve and it still isn't filling up with water. The float is moving freely, I can hear the click so i think the float switch is fine. Any thoughts why it still wouldn't be working? My sink has water just fine.
Some fill tubes have an anti flood feature that shuts off the water. I would disconnect the fill tube from the fill valve and put it in a bucket to confirm you have water flow👍
I did the water test and that works, float is fine, the water is on, I replaced the fill valve, and STILL no water goes to my dishwasher. What do I check now??
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel If it fills to the heating element, what's the likely culprit? The unit is draining the water I poured in, so I'm guessing the problem is either the circulating pump or float switch. I appreciate your help!
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel I ordered the pump and switch from Amazon last week and replaced both. The switch was inexpensive enough that it was worth a "while you're in there" replacement. Problem solved. Probably the pump, but now it has a new pump and switch. Thanks for your help!
hi, I have similar issues with my kitchenaid KDTM354ESS: the machine always drain the water I poured in so nothing ends up in the cup; I checked the float switch and it seems to be working fine. So this may be the issue of the circulating pump? Thanks!

Great video! Quick question: if I feel water on both the stainless steel hose and the black hose connected to each side of the inlet valve, is it still possible that the valve is the issue as to why I barely see any water in the dishwasher after testing with a rinse cycle?
It probably is not letting in enough water👍
So it probably is the inlet valve, even though I feel water on both ends?
Hello. I'm having the no water issue. May I know what does it mean if there's no there is no water in the cup for that "cup test"?

What if there is no signal going to the inlet valve
Do you think there might be water stuck in the bottom of the dishwasher drip plate?
Brand new motor pump inlet valve, float and float switch, so it was bone dry when I tried to start it
If I manually add 2 gallons of water it works, I just don't want to keep having to do it that way, lol

My dishwasher washes and fills but at the end of the cycle does not drain at all….any ideas as to what part maybe needed to be replaced

If the cup doesn't fill with water, what's the next diagnostic step?
You can check to make sure it fills as high as the heating element in 5 minutes.
