    In this video, we take a look at what I consider to be the "Top 10" best payware aircraft available (on the PC) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS).
    I have attempted to be objective when compiling this list and tried find a balance between quality, cost, variety and fun-factor. Let me know which addons you feel should have been included / excluded from the list etc?

    Thanks for featuring our Wilga on the list! It's an honor! Seeing the amazingly positive feedback from the community really made all those sleepless nights worth it. I know for a fact every member of our team will have a huge smile when they see this one. Esp GotGravel as he worked on both the Wilga and Spitfire respectively, as a Dev for both our team and FlyingIron Simulations.
    Best wishes for an amazing year ahead of flight sim content ITBS!

      My absolute pleasure Skoots (and the team)! The Wilga is an exceptional piece of work (as is the Spitfire) and the aircraft was thoroughly deserving of being on the list (whittling things down to just a handful of addons, was no easy task!).

      100% haha; the first year it was a pretty easy task to choose a top 10, last year was very tricky and this year it was virtually impossible (without leaving out some very worthy / excellent addons). The 2nd half of the year was a little more quiet in terms of product releases, but no doubt we’ll see some great addons in 2023!

    Being a real life GA pilot, I am not spending a lot of time flying commercial jets (I find them too technical and don't have the required skills)but I do agree with your list, which I can see has been very carefully picked. I haven't yet made the jump to purchase the King Air steam gauges "upgrade" but it will definitely be next on my list. My two favourites GA planes right now are indeed the 414 and the 310. I find personally find the 414 flight model more realistic but it may be due to the lack of experience I have with both these planes IRL. The 310 has a tendency to fall like a brick when you get closer to stall speed, which made me do a few hard landings. Don't know if this is true to life but made the experience for me a bit less less enjoyable. A very good list, thanks for the time spend on this and the hard work, this is really appreciated

      We all have different tastes of course and it’s great that most preferences are now catered for in the sim. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the King Air if you’re into your GA flying. I’ve no real-world experience with the 310 either, but I gather the low speed behaviour that you speak of, is in fact true to life (it nearly caught me out during my review of the aircraft haha).

      I'm sure you're already aware but speaking of good things for MSFS, someone pointed me in the direction of FSLTL the other day. Totally free and can be used to either inject traffic based on FR24 or you can use it for very simple but yet great model matching on Vatsim.

I also bought Flying Iron's Hellcat, but just can't warm to it as yet. The DC-6 remains gorgeous, even if you just sit in it on the ground, gazing round the cockpit. I'm waiting for the SWS De Havilland Dash 7, but since they handed it over to PILOTS, it seems to have gone dark. Not optimistic about that one any more. No matter, keep up the good work in 2023.

    Thank you for all your wonderful videos in the past year, and looking forward to your new videos in 2023! I recently listed all my payware planes in MSFS (currently 42) and gave them ratings from 1 to 5 stars. An impressive 14 planes received 5 stars. Too bad I don't have time to fly them all ... But after a slow start, MSFS now has an impressive array of excellent 3rd party planes, ranging from small, simple ones like the Sting S4 or Tiger Moth to the super realistic Fenix A320 and PMDG 737. Because I don't have that much time for simming, I prefer simple GA planes and short flights. But one day I would love to fly the DC-6, 737 and A320 ...

    Very fair assessment of the Fenix A320. The developers have always been very transparent with their progress/issues. I think for Fenix's ongoing success that they will need to offer some variants at some stage this year, plus perhaps start to look at the widebody market (hint A330) which is sorely lacking a study level aircraft.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому

      Cheers CV! I certainly feel that Fenix really just went above and beyond with their A320. I don’t know when the IAE / sharklet variants are due, but they are certainly on the way (and once again my hat goes off to Fenix for making those free!). I would love to see an A330, though I had heard some rumours that a 737CL might be next on their radar (I guess if they stick with their ProSim philosophy, that could make sense) - I’d love to see that also. Whatever Fenix come up with next, I’m fairly confident it’ll be great.

    Very good choice on the Corsair at #9, just wish she would get some love as a few things are broken due to sim updates. She shows the real potential of a proper warbird in the sim and I wish other devs would add such extensive features especially the working chart board.

      Yes, the Corsair is one of my personal favourites also and is (I would argue) the most complete warbird in the sim. The FG-1D could indeed use an update though; the flight model is rather “quirky” these days during the takeoff and the landing, presumably as a result of the more recent sim updates (as you say). I do hope MILVIZ will update the addon, though sadly nothing seems to be very forthcoming at the moment.

      Haha, fortunately / unfortunately you’re 100% correct - there are far too many enjoyable addons in MSFS, to know what to do with these days. The Carenado C337 is another one that I enjoy also, but haven’t had the opportunity to fly in ages; the Twin Otter is great fun as well (and the new soundset was a welcome update).

    MSFS2020 aircraft addons are becoming better and better and I also have 1/2 the aircraft in this video, in the Kodic and PMG737, but not all the other commercial jets found in this video. However i love the JF P28R Arrow and after purchasing it 2 yrs ago. It's still one of the best in the sim, with a great flight model, with its simplicity of handling, Amazing graphics, inside the cockpit makes it a joy to spend time in and t's still my go-to aircraft, 2yrs later.
    And I'm surprised it's not in the top 5.

      Hi Ian,
      The Arrow is indeed a cracking aircraft but as you say, MSFS addons have been going from strength to strength and personally (it is only my opinion of course) I feel that a number of addons have surpassed the Arrow at this point. I still very much enjoy the product myself (this list was not my own personal top 10, rather what I consider to be the most accomplished addons) and I still think featuring on the list is a pretty decent achievement, given the number of addons now available for the sim.
      Again though, it’s only my two pennies worth - food for thought and nothing more ; )

    I was willing to spring the extra few dollars for the Maddog because I really like the aircraft, and even though I agree the default textures (at least in the cockpit) leave a lot to be desired for an MSFS product, the recent updates to it with their new external client to work around some MSFS limitations with the ACARS and CPDLC (if you're into that) warrant the extra few dollars IMHO. Excited to see where they go with it.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +1

      Likewise Joe; if this list was my own personal Top 10 (ie the addons I enjoy the most myself), the Maddog would definitely have made the cut. I find it one of the most enjoyable jets to operate, the texturing doesn’t bother me all that much and the FTSim soundpack takes care of the MD-80’s other shortfall. There’s no doubting the Maddog is a great offering, it’s just hard to recommend (in terms of pure quality vs price) as compared with the competition.

      - Pre-Cache = Ultra
      - Terrain and Object visibility sliders set at 125% (sorry, I forget the actual names of them)
      - Motion Blur = Off
      - Glass Cockpit Refresh = Medium
      - AI Traffic = Off
      - VSync = On / 60fps
      That gives a nice balance between graphics and performance. I only run at 1080p. The things I’ve turned off / down are known to be famerate hogs.

      Hi Rabbitow,
      If you’re looking to do the trip in a jet, I think I would have to suggest either the Fenix A320, or the PMDG 737. There are other nice options out there, but those are the only 2 jets with the option for random failures and a persistent state (if memory serves me correctly) and that sort of thing really enhances the whole round-the-world “experience” (I made the same undertaking myself a few years ago and having to think about failures etc, really added another level of depth onto the whole trip).

    As always thanks for the list, as I'm not following all addons so closely. And as always I have few remarks :-D
    First spot was certain, but I have to say due to bad performance thanks to 3rd party phoenix app (30% cpu utilization on 3700X is really big hit in CPU heavy MSFS) I'm flying other tubeliners for some time. It might good to mention that for your first place, as it seems it's flawless product to users who are out of the loop to avoid disappointment if they have worse than state of the art pc.
    Also personally I would put any FlyingIron product, especially Hellcat above Corsair. While I loved it after release, after Hellcat was released, I haven't touched it anymore and probably never will, as it's practically dead product, while FI products still receiving quite big updates from time to time. What also bothered me since beginning on Corsair is it has no suspension, I can't believe thats true to real thing. Hellcat feels much more natural on takeoff and landing with it's custom ground handling (of course I have 0 experience with RL warbirds as 99.99% of userbase) and much more enjoyable to flight. Spitfire will receive same custom ground handling in next update. FI products are also more practical with it's optional avionics, but I guess that's not for everyone. Perhaps you could said more details, where FI products are "lacking fidelity". I personally could not care less if any MSFS aircraft has working machine guns or something like that. But that's just my opinion. I'm maybe slightly biased as Hellcat is my most used aircraft with it's utility for world vfr sightseeing :-D
    Thumbs up for still including jewels like hawk, 146 and DC-6, I'm still flying them often even they are not much popular as before.
    Sorry for lengthly comment :-) Cheers

      Hi Tomas,
      Cheers for your comments ; )
      I probably should have made mention of the Fenix’s FPS hit yes, but I always forget about that aspect of the product, as that’s not really an issue I’ve ever seen with the Fenix A320 personally (it has always run ok on my system, for whatever reason). I don’t tend to like making comments based on other users experiences, otherwise things can end up all over the shop, but I certainly take your point.
      I pretty much agree with you regarding the Corsair, but once again this list was not based on my own personal Top 10 addons (rather the addons I consider to be the most accomplished). The Corsair is starting to show its age at this point and could use some fixes in fairness, but it does have a number of features that the FlyingIron warbirds are lacking - hence why I chose to keep the addon in the #9 spot. If MILVIZ don’t offer up any fixes before the next list though, I could see the aircraft sliding out of contention. The Spit is still my personal favourite warbird in the sim, with the Hellcat coming a close second.
      Thanks as always for your thoughts! Much appreciated : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations

      Hello again Igor,
      I’m afraid I can’t really comment too much on the subject. I haven’t had the chance to fly either aircraft in quite some time and actually haven’t flown the Porter since it was released (the aircraft has subsequently been updated significantly). Feature-wise, the two aircraft are broadly comparable. In terms of the flight model, the Porter used to suffer from the typical MSFS taildragger issues during the takeoff (though that may have been corrected since) and the Kodiak’s flight model felt more natural overall. In terms of “fun factor”, the PC6 takes the crown and since V2 was released, you do generally get more bang for your buck overall (as you mention). Again, it would be difficult for me to offer up an opinion, not having experience with either addon in its current state. If you want a practical, useable STOL aircraft, I’d go with the Kodiak. If you want to go bashing around the bush and having some fun, I’d go with the Porter.
      I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

      Hey Pixels,
      Haha, thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
      The Islander isn’t bad; nothing special and rather dated in the visuals department, but certainly not bad. Everyone speaks pretty highly of the Trislander (it has more fidelity than its 2-engined counterpart) but, I just can’t get past the looks of that thing haha. I did review the Islander, so that video might be of some help: ua-cam.com/video/sGqJgLmrCbI/v-deo.htmlsi=a9miseN0LHj6X193

      Hi TFFY,
      It’s not something I’m all that clued up on to be honest, but I think it’s fair to say that typically, most of the more complex addons do not support flight planning via the World Map. Certainly, for a couple of the addons featured here, you’d be required to input data into the FMC manually. Many addons do support importing a flightplan from Simbrief (which will do a lot of the work for you), but Simbrief itself requires a little bit of learning etc.
      I hope that clarifies things a little? All the best : )

  • @Karibanu
    @Karibanu Рік тому +3

    For me there are extra factors beyond the product itself:
    * PMDG & Milviz get dowrnrated by me for lack of timely bug fixing / updates. The DC-6 has had longstanding issues with performance that PMDG just washed their hands of & eventually it seems foriced Asobo put their experimental menu in & then forced us to use an experimental feature to somewhat solve - and now there's a problem with the autopilot & I don't expect a fix anytime soon, going on how long doing anything has taken in the past. Their lack of responsibility has put a stop on me buying any other PMDG product - I don't care about their past reputation. Milviz have just known about issues in the 310 & the Corsair ( although as I don't have the Corsair I'm not really au fait about it ) and promised updates, and taken forever to deliver partial fixes. I have more faith they'll get round to fixing everything than I do of PMDG, but I'm rather more wary of them as a developer than I'd expected to be a year ago. The 310 dev did catch covid, but their promises continued rather than saying "there will be a hold in development". I can put up with the latter, which leads to...
    * Justflight were in a somewhat similar situation to Milviz regarding updating products to match sim updates, but first of all came out and said they weren't going to update until the sim settled down a bit, and secondly *are* actually now updating old products and have a public test programme going on right now. Anyone who wants the Pipers or the Hawk should be aware of that. I've worked with JF in the past, I still regard them as a dependable & friendly operation, if not the most nimble.
    * Meanwhile FlySimWare seems to put a new update for the 414 out every week! I'm not expecting that to last as they add more products unless the 414 developer(s) stick only to the 414, but the development rate on that aircraft is a bit nuts & sets a high bar for everyone else.
    The Wilga is the best single engine GA aircraft available right now, I think ( if you discount WW2 fighters ). I'm not sure what extra functionality you really needed! at this point I also rate the 414 way higher than the 310 - all the Milviz aircraft wins on is engine sounds & dirt buildup ( and the fact it's a lighter aircraft ), the handling is rather wierd at the moment.
    Think you can do a quick roundup of utilities? I don't know what state GSX is in, for instance.

      PMDG said they have a big update for the DC6 coming "soon". I agree with your point of view anyway, as soon as they have a new plane, here the 737, they put aside the previous drastically!

      I agree, I think that the dc 6 is getting pretty dated at this point to my knowledge. I also think that the Wilga is underrated is my opinion. Iv had the most fun in that aircraft than any other addon. what else would someone want from an aircraft? It has plenty of features and Easter eggs. I personally think that it is a very realistic addon not that I know very much about the Wilga, but
      after seeing many reviews, it does seem that it is a realistic representation.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому +1

      Hi RD,
      All very valid points for sure. PMDG could certainly stand to be more timely with their updates, but I can only really go off my own experiences; the DC6 autopilot is wonky for me at the moment, but that’s really the only major issue I’ve had with any of the PMDG products I’ve flown so far (perhaps I’ve just been “lucky” and always ended up flying them in between bugs).
      MILVIZ do tend to have the same problem, but I gather (at least for some of their projects) a number of their workforce were / are Ukrainian-based so. . .
      Just Flight are still right up there for me, although I perhaps do have some bias (not that I would let it sway my overall conclusions), given that they’ve been very “supportive” of the channel and I’ve also been a loyal customer of theirs for 15+ years at this point!
      The Flysimware 414 is an excellent addon and one certainly can’t fault them for their timely updates (they are almost so regular, as to be annoying haha), but it isn’t perhaps a fair comparison, since they only had the one project to focus on (and any Wigeon purchasers might hold a different opinion haha).
      In short, there are certainly more factors that could be taken into account as you say, but I tried to keep things somewhat simple and just focus on the addon itself (since none of the devs have done anything that I consider to be egregious).
      As far as utilities go, I haven’t really tried enough of them to offer up an opinion I’m afraid. I did finally get around to buying GSX; gave it one go, saw 3 cargo loaders drive up to the front *pax* door, had passengers coming out the roof of the aircraft and cargo loaders somewhat stack up on top of each other. It may well be that I need to set up / configure the app further, but that was enough for me, to take a little sabbatical from the addon haha XD
      Cheers for your thoughts! All the best : )

      Hi Ergenekon,
      Thanks very much, I’m glad you found the video useful!
      I do indeed use the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, for all of the addons that I fly. Detent positions can be a little tricky: I tend to eyeball the CLB / FLEX / TOGA detents. For reserve thrust, I have that bound to a button instead and use the “decrease throttle setting” bind (or something to that effect). Basically, I bring the throttles back to idle and then hit that button to activate reverse thrust - it seems to work pretty well.
      I hope that helps! All the best : )

      In terms of performance / FPS you mean IB? This is true; I’ve never had any major issues myself (probably because I’m running the sim at 1080p) but many have commented on the Fenix A320’s FPS impact. Fenix does give the user a couple of options to try and mitigate the issue (namely the ability to change the render settings of the displays), but the addon hits the FPS fairly hard either way.

      Hi OTI,
      There’s a few things I’ve noticed myself and a few things that I haven’t tested, but that others have mentioned. A couple of examples would include:
      - Inaccurate engine simulation (although I suppose one could file that under flight model)
      - Cockpit vintage not matching up with aircraft capabilities (eg whilst I haven’t flown an Airbus with the older ADIRS configuration myself, I gather those airframes are not capable of RF legs, whereas the Fenix Airbus is).
      - With blocked pitot tubes, the aircraft responds to the sim speed, as opposed to the speed the aircraft is registering.
      That’s just a few of the examples I’ve come across. I know Fenix is working on some of the issues and either way, I still think it’s an incredible piece of software for the price!

      Has the CJ Sim team even been near a Typhoon? I'm dubious of the forthcoming DCS version and that's led by an ex-pilot; full capabilites of any current serving combat aircraft are classified ( mostly ) which is why pilots familiar with types generally reckon DCS aircraft underperform - but DCS products are worked on for years before release, and then worked on for more years afterwards to try and get them closer. I'd consider it likely that MSFS devs can get trainers fairly close ( hence being ok with the Hawk ) but these combat jets taking a few weeks to develop? • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Рік тому

      Hi James,
      Well obviously there are no hard and fast rules for gauging such things, but I basically consider there to be a few broad categories, in terms of what I look for:
      1) Basic modelling of essential systems - many controls not operable etc.
      2) Most / all controls are operable, though many may be “just for show”, with no associated systems effects etc.
      3) All controls are operable and have associated systems effects, even is the system is just visibly modelled (rather than any complex modelling going on behind the scenes). Eg operating the pressurisation system will show the correct values, even if the system itself isn’t really being modelled.
      4) All controls operable and with associated systems modelling behind them.
      5) The same as #4, but with complex modelling of the systems. Systems will show nuance and differing values based on current conditions etc (as per A2A aircraft).
      6) The same as #5, but with wear and tear, failure modelling / programming etc.
      I generally judge the aircraft’s systems, based on which category it falls into. Anywhere between 2-3 is good enough for me and anywhere between 3-4 I would consider study level, though I know many others would disagree on that one haha.
      I hope that clarifies things a little? All the best : )

      Hi Paul,
      Well, to my mind at least; the “price”, is what is being charged for the addon. The “price point”, is the cost vs what *could* be charged / what the competition are charging. Eg, one could pay $35 for both the Bredok3D 737 / PMDG 737-600; both addons are sold at the same price, but the Bredok3D 737 sells at a high price point for its overall level of quality, for the 737-600, I consider the opposite to be true.

      Haha, that’s a good question Exile. Although as Richard alludes to, the default Longitude looks like it’s going to be pretty great with the next avionics update (never actually flown it, so not sure what the flight model is like etc)! We’ll see : )

    The Milviz 310 is actually the worst GA twin for MSFS. The single engine handling is terrible, the systems are poorly modelled, and the flight model is terrible.

  • @myZisfantastic
    @myZisfantastic Рік тому +4

    Hum the Milviz in 3rd and the 414 in 6th? Milviz capitalizes on there 310 since fsx on the opposite Flysimware created a "new" airplane for MSFS! Yes the 310 is great but for me the 414 is greater! Of course all this is relative 😁

    • @dazmat
      @dazmat Рік тому

      I have both however despite the 'from the ground' development of the 414 and the sheer detail with the interior and the exterior features (working dip sticks, tray tables, engine inspection points, etc). I support the ranking by ITB with the 310 being higher. The circuit breakers work, there is failure modelling, and there is such flexibility in how you choose your 'ownership' of the aircraft (rent, own, etc). But in terms of its flying behaviour, I do feel the 414 has a slight edge. My opinion however but both are great (virtual) fun! 😁 To ITB, thanks again for another wonderful and informative review!

    The Fenix is great but slightly over-rated. I can't even use the Gravity Gear Extension, which x-plane has had for years and MSFS has with the free FBW (which also has a functional printer which I love.) Definitely prefer the PMDG 737's over the Fenix (but again it's still a wonderful plane, but just overrated...)

      Hi Shawn,
      That’s fair enough, we all have our own preferences of course. For what it’s worth though, the gravity gear extension definitely works on the Fenix A320; it just so happens I made a video covering its use haha (I run though that around the 39:40 mark): ua-cam.com/video/yvOr2cS6Knk/v-deo.html

Wishing people a happy new year seems harmless enough and the rest of that 2:30, mostly pertains to what we’ll be covering in the video / how I constructed the list itself. Hi Stomper,
      Have you managed to get your issue resolved yet? I often used to have similar problems with updates and for me it came down to a sub-par WiFi connection (the connection was fine for everything else, but not up to MSFS’ standards apparently haha). I found that if I used an Ethernet connection, that prevented these download loops from occurring. Worth investigating that perhaps.
      I hope that helps a little. All the best!
