I decided on the Standard Edition because I have the msfs20 premium deluxe edition and the airports that are included in the 20th version are transferred to the 24th version for free. Apart from that, it was announced that you can buy standard aircraft from other editions individually and that an upgrade between editions does not cost any more. I will look after the release to see if an upgrade is cheaper or if I buy the aircraft I want individually. Apart from that, my interest in msfs is STOL capable military transport aircraft that are designed for unprepared runways. For example, there are only ~ 2 aircraft that I am interested in from the Premium Edition and 3 Premium deluxe that I am mainly interested in or that I already own through the msfs20 Premium deluxe.

    I go by the following:
    1. Never preorder anything but you do you.
    2. It's on Gamepass day 1 - this is a no brainer because we all know it will be suboptimal at launch and doing this gives me time to get familiar with Sim and decide what I want before buying outright.
    3. The additional aircraft and scenery are not locked to the editions as they were previously so you now get to choose your own upgrade path.
    4. Don't regret.

I've asked myself a few questions. Do I fly a lot of default aircrafts? ..No Do I fly to a lot of default airports? ..No Is it likely for me to fly over 70 aircraft? ..No Do I buy/use a lot of 3rd party airports? ..Yes Do I buy/use a lot of 3rd party aircraft? ..Yes(almost exclusively) ... Do I need to buy anything more than the Standard edition. ..NO

Good approach. For me, the premium paid for itself in that the default bespoke airports saved me from buying a few of them instead, plus there are default aircraft in that package I do indeed fly.

I am planning to go with the Aviator. My first flights were in the Piper J3, I was four. I started in the PA 18 for my pilot's license then a J3. My father was in the Army Air Corp, so I lean toward the historic aircraft, I have not had a flight sim since FSX and was very excited to see FS 2024 and was in a rush to get it, but my nephew and I have to build a PC for it. He helped me build the PC I had the FSX on. I am not in such a rush nowd and am thinking about waiting a bit to see how all you guys like it.

As a business strategist, Microsoft has deployed a tried and tested psychological pricing model. That is to give consumers a set range of pricing options, each with a set of seemingly unique pros and cons. However, Microsoft's entire business plan will be underpinned by a weighting to who buys what. The largest weight will be on the Premium Delux option. It's positioned to be 'perceived' to be the best value for money, both in options and in its packaging and design. I would put large amounts of money on it that when the Q1 sales results are revealed, the units sold splits between the packages is going to be the following (5% margin of error). Standard 10%, Deluxe 25%, Premium, 55%, Aviator, 10%. Cant wait to see the results :)

    • @horrido666
      @horrido666 Місяць тому +1

Sorry, but not 'tried and true'. Last time MS tried to teach consumers a lesson. At released they made a commitment that waiting to buy would not reduce the cost of the upgrade path. They were true to their word. Even now years after release, the only way to upgrade my basic account is to spend significantly more than if I were to have purchased it outright. This is NOT what consumers have been accustomed to with software. This is their 'new' idea, an anti consumer idea btw. I am a long time flight sim enthusiasts, not a casual gamer, my friend. Its just not worth is to spend $70+ on that one aircraft I want. Hell it was even $120 at one point - the upgrade! End result is I never had that 172 with steam gauges. My loss. MS gets no money either. Its money left on the table. MS has the most incompetent out of touch marketing team I have ever run across. If you do not understand 'money left of the table, then you are in the wrong business.

    • @haltux
      @haltux 26 днів тому +6

It will be at least 90% Standard and they know it. The overwhelming majority of the people won't understand why you would pay twice more to have the same game with the same sceneries and a couple of additional planes when 70 planes is way more than most people need anyway.
It's almost funny how enthousiasts are disconnected from the reality of most players. MSFS is not a niche game. It solds millions of copy, most of them to casual simmers.

For me personally, after a bit of thinking, I've chosen the Standard version. The reason being, is that I tend to fly a lot of addons. So I'll get the addon airfields that I can transfer over from MFS2020, along with all the current addon aircraft. As new airfields and aircraft come to MSFS2024, I can choose what I like to put into the sim.

this is great and all BUT what I would recommend is buying the STANDARD EDITION then go to the msfs store and HANDPICK what you like and buy. This is what i did with msfs 2020 and it has always worked for me as i can customize what i want installed on the sim without the other unnecessary baggage that will clutter your SSD!!! Which in turn can addect performance. I keep my msfs lite and people always wonder why i get such great performance (60+FPS with 0 stutters) on my LAPTOP!!

I agree--most of the MS-developed payware a/c are ones I'd rarely fly, and the ones I'd fly regularly, I already own. So for me, even though US$2/type is cheap, it makes no sense to pay for stuff you won't use. It's like buying in bulk--not a good deal if you you end up wasting most of what you purchased. It's too bad that MS doesn't offer a discount based on Marketplace purchases for 2020, as that would cover the Aviator upgrade over PD in my case! I did buy one vintage type, the Beech 18, and although it's an interesting experience, I rarely fly it, so it's unlikely I'd make good use of the Aviator Ed. My favorite add-on is the FSW C414 anyway, so I could get by with Standard, but for the other upgrades.

I personally went with Standard, b/c all the commercial aircraft and airports I use are included. There's enough in the Standard to keep me happy for at least a year, and by that time Microsoft will be having a sale if I want to upgrade. I've never been one of those people that has to buy the latest, greatest thing on release day, because more often than not, those that do end up with at least 2nd degree burns.

As I will only fly payware A/C and maybe one or two Asobo A/C it will be the standard version for me. If I want a better airport I will make my own as I have a lot of experience with that. My advice would be to get the standard version with the option to upgrade later. My bet would be you will never upgrade what with the gazillions of freeware airports that will be available and the bulk of the Asobo A/C that you will never fly or only fly once.

One thing I have wondered is if there is any benefit to buying the premium deluxe right way, compared to going for standard first and then upgrading? I think I heard in some video that the price for standard + upgrade to premium deluxe would be exactly the same as buying the premium deluxe right away. Is this true? (not taking into account some temporary discounts that might pop up later). I have also understood that the only benefit from pre-order is that you get access to one plane in your current MSFS2020 while you wait for the 2024 to be released?
I think I will wait a couple of months to not get a buggy first release and the frustration of having it crash all the time until the first few patches...

I was on board with getting standard because I never flew default aircraft from the 2020 Premium Deluxe edition.
2024 will have career mode that uses the default planes, and I've really enjoyed bush trips lately that use them as well.
I think I'll go Premium Deluxe again.
I honestly think it is worth the extra $50 over not having the ability to at least try new things.
But, it's also about what you can afford of course.

I basically olmost only 'fly' the ATR 42/72 and a few payed add-ons which I bought later on the Marketplace, so I guess my choice will remain on the Aviator Edition. With MSFS 2020 I bought the DeLuxe Edition and bought the ATRs package after, but now, I guess the discount on one side would be the same amount of money spent in the ATR package itsself, so... unless I am completyely mistaken, I bet I'll actually buy the Aviator Edition after all. Also imagine how much simpler things would have been if:
    1) You buy version X. But version Premium X is $30 more expensive. You don't want it now, but you MAY want it in the future, e.g. because career mode makes better use of it.
    2) MSAsobo allow you to simply pay those extra $30 and upgrade whenever you want to.
    3) 3 months later you may further upgrade to Premium Ultra Deluxe X by paying $30 more.
    4) You reap all benefits at your own pace and wallet and will. You are not committed to version X until you grow old, nor do you have to pay double the price to upgrade to Premium X (as it happens now).
    5) But no, MSAsobo have to be greedy.

In any case buying premium deluxe of cd key sites is still a bargain at 90 eur/usd, so I'm probably sticking to that (even if I buy Standard at 55 eur/usd from said sites), I'd still need at least 50 more to get premium deluxe down the road if I ever decided to upgrade (probably more) so it's more expensive than getting PD outright. I just wish Asobo would sell a basic MSFS version at 30 eur/usd or whatever, with zero aircraft in it so I'm only flying 3rd party study level anyway, I stay away from default INOP krap and inibuilds minimum functionality aircraft.

Appreciate the advice - nice compact presentation. Price? Whatever. I based my recent computer rebuild on MSFS 2020, which will be fairly solid except for multithreading. Going up from the present. essentially brand new Intel i5 to a reasonable mid-range i7 will be $400 - $500 or so; This puts the price difference of the various editions into perspective. That said:
I have been stumbling along in X-Plane 12 to pass the time. I picked up an HU-16 Albatross only to find it was for X-Plane 10 or 11. Very disappointed - one of my Coast Guard memories is seeing the last HU-16 in commission trundling across the highway from the San Diego Air Station to the commercial airport to take off. (No longer water certified at that point.)
So the Deluxe Edition gets me that plus the Dornier amphibian, so I'm in at that level.

For anybody who has spent so much $$$ in the marketplace already, I do not see anything substantially interesting that the other versions would add. I am a real world pilot btw. and the default Asobo stuff does not really cut it for me to be honest - also most of their airports have been deleted and replaced by better payware alternatives in my library.

It always surprises me, a bit, that developers limit the collectors editions so much. Most of us won't have the opportunity to buy it even if we could afford it due to those sellers that have ways of buying before anyone else. I realize they want it to be rare but it shouldnt' be impossibly rare. And the collectors on this is sold out as far as I know.

Plus any individual purchases, so things like the ATRs which are listed as only in the Aviator edition should still be unlocked since I bought them in 2020. As I understand it. On top of that I get the standard included in Gamepass so honestly I'm not sure I need to buy anything.

Premium Deluxe for me because I already have all of the aircraft in the aviator edition I want. I’m assuming those planes will automatically updated since I’ve purchased them. The Airbus H225 looks exciting.

@@jameneto my understanding is that they will be available. The only reason to get the aviator edition is if you’ve never purchased any of those planes. Now you can get them for about 2.30$ each which is pretty good. In my case I already got the ones I liked.

MS is hoping you re-pay for planes you frequently fly in 2020. $ca-ching$
However, Jorg said your current planes from 2020 will be included in your upgrade to 2024. Only pay for the new planes you want. You will have the option to purchase individual planes in 2024. Do the math to see which is cheaper. $200 for all planes instead or just a few planes. Eventually, they will be on sale for us budget minded addicts.

Premium Deluxe stands out. Not because of the extra airports, as you can get these off non-legit sites anyway. Not because of the extra aircraft as these will be the usual INOP stuff with minimum fidelity. Not because it's a whooping $140. But because gray cd key sites sell Premium Deluxe at around $90 which is a bargain. I'm definitively getting PD.

Premium edition stands out because they deliberately made it look good so customers would willingly shell out the cash to get it. You suppress features on the cheap versions and then make sure people are aware of how much more you get with the Premium, It's really simple.

I fly local airfields and only one paid aircraft that I used to fly before I gave up. So anything above standard is a waste. Seems like marketing madness. I mean an extra 5 international airports is not inticing when you don't fly there. I wish they called them package numbers. Not exactly deluxe or premium really, just more content if you really are going to use the extra content.

From my experience with 2020 Deluxe Premium, the upgraded airports still sucked. So I bought 3rd-party airports, which blew away MS's "upgraded airports."

I agree that the Premium Deluxe is the way to go and I was going to go with the Premium Deluxe like I did with MSFS20 but, when my mom asked me if I could wait until Christmas to get it, then she'd get me the Limited Collectors Edition as my "big gift", I was like, "Uh, yeah!" So, that is the one I'll be getting which I am pretty stoked about to be honest. It'll be cool to have the An-225 model and the flight bag, and all the other stuff. I'll do an unboxing video when I finally get it in December.

Are you out of your mind? You said that each edition offers various 'features'. No! Just more aircraft and airports! With the sheer size of the world, do an extra few good airports mean anything? No! Personally, I think the Standard Edition should only come with a third of the aircraft and airports... and costing less. That would be perfect for so many flight simmers. But, MS wants our money, so make the basic edition $70! Everyone: Buy the Standard Edition and add your CHOICE of aircraft and airports in time as made by third-party creators... unless, of course, you just love to waste money. 🙄
