@@JocelynnSpencer That is right. But knowing if the dog alerted or not, would lead the cops to take a closer look at him, if need be? If the dogs don’t alert, then there’s no harm, no foul! The police will probably never be informed. I think there has to be video to show the dog alerting though. That way the police could see the dog while in progress of the search. If the searcher submitted the video anonymously to the police, & they are not Law Enforcement, then they could obtain a search warrant. The repeated search results would be more thorough, including the house, & then would be admissible, I believe?

I’ve been following this case from the beginning. It cannot be proven that he left the school with Terri because other people said they saw just Terri and her daughter leaving. Who do you believe? Which narrative do you want to go with? Desiree is a grieving, vindictive mother who dislikes Terri no matter what. I think the proof needs to be there first before accusing Terri. How many people who claim to have seen Terri leave with both children signed affidavits to that affect? How many people who claim to have seen Terri leave with only her daughter signed affidavits to that affect? What’s the status on that? Which group of individuals are to be believed?

That's just devastating. It's the first time I'm hearing about his case. I live in Austria not far from where Natasche Kampusch was abducted and I remember her being missing for 8 years while I was growing up. Every now and then there would be a new lead and I specifically recall divers searching a nearby pond. By then everyone assumed she had been murdered when all of a sudden she reemerged as a young woman who had escaped her capturor. I'm raising two children myself and I try to still let them have their freedom and roam around outside but it's hard not to worry sometimes.

I'm so glad that you are finally covering this case. I lived 5 miles as the crow flies over the river from this school at this time, and I can tell you that the impact on parents of elementary school children in the area was palpable. We all came together, discussed any updates daily, and watched our children like a hawk every minute. We were all terrified that someone was entering schools abducting children. I remember we would get the absence robo calls in the evening before this, and they started coming by like 9:00 am after that. There were so many more suspicious actions by Terri that would come up on the local news nightly, and that Desiree put in her book. I have always felt so strongly for Desiree, and have followed her fight to find Kyron. She keeps this case alive, and pops up with a plea for information yearly on the local news. Everything that Terry did on the day of sounds like establishing an alibi. Making sure that she had receipts and going to the gym and specifically talking to people she knows sounds so much like she needed people to know where she is. Even taking the picture seems normal aside from that the child disappeared on that day

This is one thing that makes me think it may have been her. I still think it’s possible however that Terry sucked as a person AND it was a sketchy random guy that snatched him up given that the school let their guard down with the science fair taking place. That would have been the perfect opportunity for a predator to take advantage of.
I know I’m in the minority here but I feel like an arrest would have been made by now if it was the stepmom given the amount of attention and resources that have been spent on her for a decade-plus now. Could she really have executed the perfect crime that quickly? Or has there been no arrest all this time bc they’ve been looking in the wrong direction? It’s also important to remember the narrative regarding this case has largely been authored by the mom who isn’t exactly unbiased

I can imagine Kyron being shy and a 'wanderer' would make him an easier target. It's concerning that 4 men on the registry still are not accounted for during the important time period. That school and individuals involved should be held responsible for their negligence at the very least, Come on, you have one job above all else: keep them safe.
The only thing that gives me pause in terms of his father/stepmother is not letting the dog search their property, that does sound off to me, but maybe there's a reason? I don't quite get not wanting every resource available to find your little boy.

This is what I’m leaning towards. When something this horrible happens the family wants/needs somebody to blame- it’s human nature. I can understand Desiree quickly concluding it was Terry, as she already held so much resentment towards her & with the conflicting stories it gets confusing.
I have to assume they investigated her car, the house, and any other place that may have shown evidence of a crime Terry committed. Yet no where does it say that they found blood or anything. This is a really sad case with a lot of confusing contradictions in stories (especially among those at the school).
I am also hesitant to trust that the police showed (only) Desiree these emails that Terry sent saying she hated Kyron. And that alone gives me pause… why would she fabricate that?

Popular belief is that Terry did something, but where could she have hidden him that searchers wouldn't have discovered him? I think Deseri's hatred of Terri is the driving force for the accusations. I'm sure she was jealous of Kyron's close relationship with Terri. I don't know what happened to him, but the man asking for a student to help him unload his truck is a little bit odd. The fact that the teacher told him it was okay is just scary. The school really failed in keeping the children safe that day. I think it's extremely plausible that someone abducted him. Since the police found nothing concrete when investigating Terri, it seems that Kyron's mother's hatred of Terri is the main reason she keeps saying that Terri is responsible.

I always thought Terry was guilty as hell, but looking at the facts now, my main thought is, the school was open to anyone who wanted to come in. It sounds crazy. When my kids were going through the school system, you had to show your ID and sign in at the front desk to enter the school. Someone could have easily lured Kyron out. This is one that still haunts me.

I feel like all the focus on the stepmother ruined their investigation. Kyron’s mother was out for blood and I feel like the cops were swayed by her conviction. It sounds like, though, Kyron’s real mother was Terri. The detail about the glasses resonated with me. All the evidence points to her loving him and caring for him. The birth mother, with her mysterious illnesses and running off to Canada and then all her deranged interviews, I don’t see a grieving mother, I see an slighted woman out for vengeance.

I lived in the Portland area when Kyron went missing. I remember there was a lot of suspicion around the stepmother Terry. Thank you for telling the back story of everyone. I learned new facts in this case.

I live in WA about an hour from Portland and I remember when Kyron first went missing. Thank you for bring this case back to the forefront Annie! With all the port cities we have around this area abductions have become a real concern!
