2 years ago we bought this 76 GMC K15 4x4 pickup truck and after getting it running again after beeing parked for 40 years we quickly realized that the four wheel drive didn't work, the transmission was burnt up, and it had no brakes! So in this video we are going to start the restoration process by replacing everything in the brake system, putting it on 35's on 15x10's, and pulling the turbo 350 and NP203 transfer case so that we can rebuild it. Much more to come on this truck so stay tuned.

Lift that thing marge needs a lifted truck
Polebarngarage has a resto on a rusted square body. Maybe give her a watch for some inspiration
Why not take your time and rebuild the truck completely from top to bottom because Wawa has a car Raffie has two Vehicles so why not rebuild the Chevrolet for Sqeezy ?

Squeezie deserves all the encouragement she can get. Her artwork is getting more awesome by the day.
She will be custom painting the cars in no time.
She is developing her own style.
I would love to see squeeze paint on some of the projects! I love that Wawa is getting in and getting her hands dirty! I loved making those kind of memories with my dad! Ralphie is so smart and has a great mentor! Marge you and Josh are doing amazing things for your family! Enjoy watching this channel so much! Keep up the good work!
Out of all the guys on UA-cam you might be the one i’m most jealous of. I have 3 kids but not one that ever wanted to work on cars with me. My kids don’t care about cars as long as they start and drive. They are all grown and gone from home now. Enjoy them while they think your still cool cause they sure do grow up FAST
I know, at 11 my little girl was all about helping Dad build her a jeep. A few years later and make-up is all the rage and jeep discussions turn into which color shades of pink to paint it.
Those kids seem to enjoy themselves in the garage doing a variety of things. Its the togetherness through it all that is inspirational to me.
Your truck has a np203 transfer case it's a all-wheel drive truck with the ability to lock the front and rear outputs together making it a true 4 x 4 transfer case. When the transfer case is in high or low range it will turn both front and rear outputs, but due to an internal differential inside the transfer case it will allow the power to go to the axle that spins. When put in high or low Lock the differential is bypassed and the transfercase is like a regular transfercase driving both outputs equally. You can buy a kit rather cheap that will convert it two a part-time transfercase. This makes it very unique as you will have two-wheel drive high and low range and then four-wheel drive high and low range. Definitely go ahead and fix that ol GMC up 👍
was gonna comment the same thing
We're alot of them GMCs 400 509 casting sbc?? Chevyfan82 you seem pretty knowledgeable
Me too
me too except we call that bit a centre diff here
@@GaryCrawford-v9s 509 blocks are more common in earlier to mid-70s along with the 511 blocks in the later 70s they got the 817 400 blocks. One thing about the 400 is you were going to run into more differences than a normal small block Chevy especially on the earlier 509 and 511 blocks. Some have three freeze plugs per side some have two per side some are four bolt main caps some are two Bolt main caps, and then the decks can have a wide variety in cooling passages. In almost all of them you really don't know what you have until you pull it apart. If you were looking to build one the one you want is a 509 block with two bolt main. The problem with most of the 4 bolt mains is they tend to crack around the main caps do to the larger bore cutting into the meat arount the bolt caps. if you push much over 450hp but some have lived well over 500 hp. With a 2 bolt cap block you can get splayed caps which will eliminate the cracking issue.
I just love the positivity, the calm can do attitude, patience, and little tidbits of mechanical knowledge stored away for use later on. Also really admire the wonderful parenting, your kids will have happy lives full of self confidence and love, y’all are doing such a great job with them. Towing a bunch of kids around on an old truck hood in the snow, that story will be told in your family for generations!
WOW! Never thought that old truck could look so good! You are always so much fun to watch. Wholesome entertainment. God Bless you all.
Appreciate the support!
Most moms " slow down now" Marge "Gas it" Love this family 😅😅
Most moms now-a-day would not even let the kids get onto the hood in the first place, but not Marge. She knows that a little well supervised "danger" is good for her kids....gives them fortitude and back bones.
My dad told me,
Days go by slow
But,
Years go by fast.

Absolute truth Dwaine. The older you get the quicker the years go.
Never a truer statement

GOAT!! Squeeze's paintings are getting better and better... She's going to be famous for her talent.
I have to tell you that out of all the revival teams on UA-cam I absolutely enjoy your's that you involve the whole family and they enjoy it even better!!
Keep it up!!!
Thanks so much, we're having a blast!
I really hope Wawa keeps working on cars, I used to when I was younger loved it and now I don’t anymore because I work all the time, it’s very satisfying to work and fix your own stuff
Maybe she will
I dont mind if she stops mostly. She's multi talented. Suppose she becomes a concert pianist? She'll want to protect her hands.
But I doubt she'll ever forget how to do some basics, or need help if she gets a flat.
"GOAT" After watching the snow sledding portion of video I now understand how WAWA must have gotten her nickname. Not one second went by that I din't hear "Waaaa Waaaa"! Great stuff
I love how much Squeeze lights up after she got the compliments about the paintings! 🤭
She really enjoys it
She fully deserves those compliments. Her artwork has greatly improved and it shows in each new painting. Keep encouraging her to follow her dreams and passions. Will she ever develop a love for cars and mechanics? There is no way to know at this time.....but please keep encouraging to follow her own drum beat and never let her become another generic TikTok clone.
Wawa and Ralphie are going to be the best mechanics! Squeezie will be in an Art Institute museum! I really love Murphy! Such a sweet looking dog! For the truck, would a utility bed be too dorky? Use as a support vehicle for when you tow a car to events? Put tools, parts etc in it???? Love the channel you guys! And a shout out to Tosh/Marge for her camera work!
I had that same truck. It's an all-time ALL WHEEL DRIVE and it kicks out of All wheel drive when you exceed 45 miles per hour it goes into 2wd. The high lock and low lock puts it in actual 4x4. A lot of people took the Locking hubs out so it was just all-time two-wheel drive because they are gas Hogs and all-wheel drive
That was a Very good Family Movie. Thank all of you. God Bless.
Lookin Sharp, will be great to see her New sheetmetals. The Snow ❄❄ Laughter brought back memories of when my Lil Tribe was in their teens in 1997 we lost our 15 year old Son , and this last tuesday we lost our 41 year old Son. 😥😥I dont even ask why Lord anymore. I put my Trust in him, but the pain is the worst thing in life. I smiled watching this episode with tears in my eyes. I love you all, i send my Prayers continually. Savor those moments Tash & Josh. Lifes too short, Father take us home. 🙏🙏
i gotta say josh and tash your family is awesome! watching you guys work together brings a sime to my face! I love seeing kids happy and woring on cars with their parents!
For my little friend Sqeezy, "GOAT" !!! From an old Dad in Canada. Thanks for all the fun and the vehicle education too. My wife and daughter and Dad and quite a few aunts and uncles are all oil painting artists. Keep up the great work with your painting, Squeezy !!! The rest of you are all great too !!!
I'm glad to see you all do something with that poor old

love your channel guys, highlight of the week, please don´t flat bed that sweet GMC truck, love that you are willing to replace the body panels, it is going to look awesome, go the extra mile on this one, tear up the old envelope and stick new panels and floor on the bed aswell, these trucks are getting rare enough and carry the value to be worth it... i´m sure it will look great no matter what you decide to do thou. keep up the good work.... your number 1 fan from Denmark.
GOAT: northwest guy here, you guys have more snow than we’ve had all season.
Great having the Forester make a Camio pulling the kids, I’m a Subaru fan and have one the same year.
Squeeze will become the custom painter for all the vehicles and imagine that creative edge either selling or displaying a Sleeperdude vehicle at a show or race. She may not wantt to rebuild them, but I bet she could reimagine them customized outer skin and maybe innerds too. She has that creative talent for sure! Ralphie and Wawa open Dad's bodyshop and repair, Squeeze runs the paint dept. I like this idea.
First and foremost I just have to let you know that I’m so glad to see your family thrive.
I have a tip for you when reassembling drum brakes. If you’re having trouble getting the nail and retaining spring together to hold the shoe…just use a c-clamp to hold the shoe in place and this will make it much easier. I do this when I do drum brakes and it makes life easier. Keep safe and God bless.
Thanks ya'll...enjoyed it....good amount of work done in this one...pulling the kiddos aruund in Ralphie's truck...glad you got to enjoy the snow...none this year in East Texas...nice to restore that old truck...cannot believe Josh is out walking in snow in his flip flops...:( God bless and stay warm.
We had a 3/4 ton 1979 GMC Suburban (yes, they used to call both Chevy and GMC Suburban back then, not Yukon). It had the full time 4 wheel drive. Basically, since it had 4 wheel drive all the time, if you were in "Hi" position, the transfer case would act as the spider gears in a differential, transferring power between front and rear so as not to wear out your tires or cause strain on things going around corners like when you would do 4 wheel drive on dry pavement if you had locking hubs. When you shift into "Hi-Loc", it takes that spider gear differential effect out of the transfer case and locks into regular 4 wheel drive like when you have locking hubs. We had our '79 Suburban converted to locking hubs from full time 4 wheel drive. I think you may have to change something in the transfer case to remove that spider gear differential effect or you may not be able to move with transfer case in "Hi" and hubs not locked. You might look into that but that's what I recall it being explained to me as a young teen in the late 1980's.
Ok. Edited comment after watching the last of the video. I say don't shorten the wheelbase. Word on the street years ago was shorter wheelbase on this era truck makes them more squirrely on slick areas a like mud or ice. Second reason is, EVERYONE is shortening half ton trucks! One of these days, the shortbed fad will fade and then everyone's gonna want a long bed and they'll all be gone! After the fad wears off, your longbed will be worth a million bucks.
Long bed trucks are what's up. How are you supposed to haul a sheet of plywood with a short bed??
@bren42069 right. And considering the size of those rear brakes and 6 lug wheels, we're probably looking at a heavy half ton. He could haul some decent loads if he wanted.
Good one Wawa. Not many people know to use their knees instead of their backs when lifting heavy objects up (when you lifted that last wheel onto the other old wheels).
Goat!!! I, of course, love all of your videos. I love the fact that all of your children are learning the skills that they are and they always seem to do it in a spirit of loving it and that they love each other. Marge and Josh, you have to be extremely proud of your children and the accomplishments they make at church, at school and at home! Thanks for taking the time and money to make these videos for us. Great videos and I enjoy watching you and the entire family. Keep those videos coming. The correct way to pack a wheel bearing is all about making sure the grease gets where it’s needed most. It’s not just about rubbing grease on the outside of the rollers but ensuring it passes through the inside of the bearing and fills the cage completely. Using the palm of your hand is the best method-scoop some grease into your palm and press the edge of the bearing into it repeatedly until you see the grease squeezing through to the other side. This ensures every roller is thoroughly coated, which is crucial for proper lubrication, preventing wear, and ensuring long-lasting performance.
I agree ...also it's not good to use petroleum distillates,it leaves deposits, it's better to push the old grease through and displace the old grease with new grease. Geezers know these things👍
OMG a hood sled. Growing up we would do that all the time. Dad had an old 79 high boy and a spare hood. Go across the street and dad would 4 wheel as us 3 kids would hang on for dear life. Best time ever.
The front diff hub lock removal was something people did a lot back in they day if the couldn't afford the conversion kit to covert from all time 4wd to 2wd part time 4wd setup. Just a way to save gas till you need it in the field and theyd put the front diff hub lock back in. If i were you id make that thang into a Fall Guy truck like the one in the show from the 80s. Wheels are already very similar. Leave the long bed i think thats just sweet like the truck in the show. Sweet rig and a fun show if you want some good classic television. Another tip if you dont want to cut stuff next time 32 or 32.5 is the tire size to go with. Biggest size without the trouble and my favorite size for a muscle truck or an off road rig. Also Goat! 🤘
Goat! Yet another enjoyable Saturday night, thanks to Sleeperdude and his amazing family thank you everyone!
WOW WOW WOW this got to be your best video ever I love watching the hold family working tighter and having fun I think Squeezy liked this one maybe she will be working on one soon LOL Squeezy is looking so grown up
It's so awesome that y'all do this together as a family.
No short bedding! Long beds rule. Get a replacement long box. Replace the sheet metal. Cool truck. Fix up interior. She a ripper!
I agree long bed is more functional.
Short bed is the only way to go. Short beds are hot rods, long beds are Pop-Paw trucks.
I'm. 63 . And I was taught by my dad. How to do drum brakes. I still have his brake tool just like the one you use. And once again it's so cool that your children are learning from you.
4” all spring lift, cowl hood vgg hood savers, tru-trac lockers, keep the color combo, and nice dual exhaust and drive it like Marge. Goat 🐐

I love a good 4x4, and to get one that can be repaired completely is a blessing! I'm really looking forward to this one being renewed, hope it's done soon 😊
Same here over the years I've had several square body 4x4.👍
GOAT! Where is Scooter? I haven't seen him for quite a while now. I sure hope he's still running around looking as cute as can be, as usual!!! 💙❤💙
Yeah, been wondering about Scooter!
I would of thought we would of had an answer by now, very concerned here. 😢@@Goomba956
I would love to see a full resto painted the same two tone colors
Awesome thanks
Goat!!!!
When you put the transfer case in the lock position, the transfer case is locked in low range or high range.
When in the non lock position, you are still in 4 wheel drive. But when you let up on gas, the transfer case free wheels.
Mile Marker used to sell a gear kit that goes in the transfer case,#501. They still do!
If you have the bolt together gear case, you will need to grind the inside so it will bolt together.
That is the new process 203 transfer case you folks are working on. 10/40 motor oil is the lube that it uses. Because of the drive chain in the 203.
A 4 inch lift kit maybe needed for the proper clearance of the 35's.
Enjoy the videos alot! Especially having the kids involved. Wonderful memories being made for you all!
Im glad your gonna restore that truck, it deserves it after the hard life its had. you might wanna brace the frame by where the steering box is, they're known for cracking there. They also make a brace kit for under the hood where they like to bend
The ole double wrench trick gets em every time. Classic. I have a 15 year old as well!! Good job Wa!
On a tangent, it's good to see the Subie being put to use! I recently bought my first Subaru and am currently getting to know it.
CHEERS!
Yes thank you
Love the family content!! Wish my family was like that
It's Amazing the prices that are being demanded for Square body Chevy's at this time. I am a Long Bed fan. Always have been. My trucks were always for working & the extra room, especially if having to haul plywood or sheetrock. It all fits Perfect inside a long bed. That truck is also a Perfect candidate to teach & show off your body skills Done proper & not the Pole Barn way. Not that nothing is wrong with that, yet, you know what i mean. They make patch panels for them. Not sure if i've seen you do actual rust repair with the kids. Anyway, i enjoyed this vid & hope you bring it back to Glory. Ty for taking us along
Goat! Please keep it a long bed. Full resto with the 2 tone? Heck yeah. Great job guys! A thumbs up from anyone who’s gone down a sliding hill on an old car hood. I know I have 😅
GOAT! Long beds rule. Make a long flatbed that you can actually use to haul scrap.
Thanks yes we might do that
I've always liked the long beds, but I used a truck like a truck, so more space is always welcome.
Everyone needs a good 4X4 to off-road in at some point in their lives. You're really lucky to have kids to enjoy it with, not only to go 4 wheeling but to help fix it up. The guys better know their stuff when Wawa starts dating because if their vehicle breaks down they would have to have her fix it! Now that would be a video I would watch. 😂
Sadly I was diagnosed with cancer when our son was 18 months old. I was given a 20% chance of surviving but I beat the odds and our son will be 19 in May. Unfortunately the cancer treatment left me severely disabled so I didn't get to teach him how to work on vehicles. Luckily he has taken an interest in learning and is starting next month in a technical school taking auto mechanics.
Thanks again for all the great videos!
I am definitely blessed
@Sleeperdude yessir you really are but the really good thing is you know it and appreciate it. ❤️
Ralphie's lathe could turn those drums very quickly. Those machines were intended for general automotive work like cutting drums and dish and polishing flywheels. You could use an axle stub to locate the drum in a three jaw chuck. You may want to buy the flaring tool other YT guys rave about; it takes all the risk out of getting a great double flare although you can still forget to put the nut over the tube and have to do it again.
The Chevy square body has always been my favorite truck . I can see your family really having fun in this one . Get a good bed and hood and fix it up nice. It’s definitely worth it. Wa worked extra hard on this one and you can tell she’s ready to have fun in this truck. My wife and I have 3 daughters and none of them are car or truck lovers so I’m really happy that you have one that is. God Bless you all.
Sleeperdude is the UA-cam GOAT! this is motivating me to get my ol’ longbed squarebody running. Looking forward to the transmission rebuild. Also, nice Bob Uecker tribute!
nothing like the kids getting hands on experience mud, dirt, grease, and rust fixing stuff my favorite element to be in they are do lucky to have a dad teaching them the ropes working as a team it dont get any better than that !!! 😊 👍👍
Josh since your profession was paint and body repair it would be a treat for your viewers to see a full restoration on this truck. Breakout the LMC catalog for this truck
I always find it odd that the focus is always on the mechanical work, and the body and paint is usually left mostly as is apart from fixing major rust areas.. I guess that's too much like going back to his old job.
No way if hes going to go boddie guy do somthing worth money
Dont need paint or a boddy to make runs😅@@gotham61
Agree I would to see you weld patch panel replacement and at least rhino line or gravel guard the GMC Love the Grande. Fix it, No flat bed long wheel base will out pull a short bed in a mud hole.True Story
You'll love that style torque converter bolt when you go to reassemble. You don't have to deal with lining up studs. ( Like old Ford's) And you don't have to worry about getting three bolts in and the last one not lining up. ( Like old Mopars).
Awesome thanks
The flat bead idea is a good one . Also Maybe an inch longer leaf shackle and I don't think you'll have to cut those sweet fenders. Love the videos. Its good to see kids actually work hard.
GOAT. I'de like to see the existing bed remain as is, add a roll bar, and a bench seat in the back, facing forward, with seat belts so all can ride in the truck together.
I love to see these old trucks revived
I would need a step ladder to get in that beast now. And your kids had a blast again. It's cold almost everywhere this winter.
Pretty much 🤣yes it’s been crazy weather
Everyone deserves a snow day! G.O.A.T!🐐
Watching Wawa and Ralphie work on those casings made me so proud for Josh and Tosh 👍
Such a hard working beautiful family ❣️
Thank you for the great content
GOAT! LOL Keep it a long bed! New body panels, and maybe do a small 2in lift. Super easy to do and will help get a little more clearance for those casings!
👍
I'm certain you've learned by now, but I'll help the algorithm. The "4 lock" was used on the "shift on the fly 4x4" option. You could partially engage the hubs on the fly, but they needed to be fully locked to use the 4x for any amount of time or major use.
Run that turd, I had one too, as it is rust and all.
I loved watching the kids on the hood!
We used aa VW hood (don't worry Wawa, the car had the hood replaced, we got the old one) It was awesome because of the shape!
Love the casings!
Tires
@@gerry-p9x Don't swear. On this channel it's called casings. Nothing else..
Should be an Np203 has a diff in it, lok locks it up. Should of had directions on the sun visor. The diff let's the front and rear rotate at different speeds to prevent binding during hard turns on high traction surfaces. The original front hubs were locked with a one piece collar and covered with the smooth cap like you had on one side. With the locking hubs unlocked you will have to run the transfer case in lock or it will only spin the front output. And with the transfer case in lok and the hubs unlocked you are still spinning everything up front it's just not connected at the hubs. Chain driven unlike the 205 part time gear driven unit. Hope this helps!
203 is definetly a chain drive case..
So i see David Frieburger has a fellow flip flop mechanic 😂. And in the snow to boot. You all are great. Love seeing a family getting things done together.
That truck was full time four wheel drive, owner removed the assembly to save on gas, or stop the front end turning wobble, thats why it has snap on covers instead of the locking hubs

A fun fact regarding mastering the art of drum brakes: They're back! The various newer Volkswagen ID series electric cars, including my ID.7, have rear drum brakes. Less drag over time, less rust/corrosion when rarely used because of motor regeneration braking, less maintenance etc.

Hi guys, for difficult bolts especially shallow headed ones I grind the face of the socket or spanner until you get rid of the bit without grip. Then you get full engagement on the bolt head, if they want to round off you are better off to use 6 point sockets or spanners with the ends ground flat. Keep up the good work, Cheers.

Don't meet to many other people named David bergstrom.
NP203 full time transfer case, you will want the 2WD conversion kit, the case has a differential between the front and rear driveshaft outputs that is open and 4loc locks the diff.

Kudos to your patience with drum brakes! I used to tinker with those demon contraptions until my 95 Blazer. I could not for the life of me get the springs to stretch far enough and then stay on to get my rear brakes back together. It was that day I swore off drum brakes either forever, or until I at least had the installation tools. So far I've been lucky enough to no longer have a car with drum brakes, and I've got a job where I can comfortably afford going to a professional and letting them deal with it. The headache and amount of swear words used just ain't worth it!
I totally forgot yall even had this thing. It looks super cool with the big mud tires! I love the look of Alcoa’s and mudders! If it wasn’t so rusty it’d look like 90% of the trucks in the parking lot when I was in high school!
Very cool thanks
