i like how orla looked like a puppet at first, hiding the other person behind her, they looked robotic, and at the end they were linking arms and you could see them both and they were smiling. from a metaphorical standpoint it looked a lot less toxic at the end which is cool.
that was the idea! by the end of the sequence I know longer see the other person as a threat - and suddenly, we're in sync

i can see from your perspective, now that you shared it;
but i confess it never felt 'toxic' to me.
instead i thought it began as impersonal, as strangers meeting
and then through interaction it became more personal(ized)
more fluid and comfortable.
Beginning as strangers, they find common ground
and move forward together, mutually supporting each other

I love the moment after they first dance together with Orla behind, and then you see her expression embodying all the self-doubt in the world.
I interpret this as people telling you what to be and toxic positivity. Art is meant to be interpreted and this is a masterpiece. "A stranger on the Internet who knows nothing about me or what I'm going through told me how to behave, and I see you as a guiding light that I should be more like." Alongside feelings of jealousy being confused with love and vice versa. But also that you never know a person, seeing them as perfect and how you'll never be them without seeing how they grew.The feelings of self hatred being expressed inward and that it's a battle meamt to be fought alone as it can't be fixed with another person, yet being unable to forget that same person. It's so relatable.

I know you'll probably never see this, but I wanna thank you. I have an ED that comes in phases since about a year and I was in a rather bad phase again, when I listened to this song a few days ago. I've already listened to it many times, but that time it somehow felt differently. To me personally it conveys that sad, obsessive longing to be better that is part of my ED perfectly. But there's also the wish to be free. And than there's the reminder, that I'll have to look back on a life with regret in it. When listening to this I could finally take the advice by the woman on the internet to not produce more regret. I don't want to look back on another spring of making myself suffer from not eating the things I love. I started to actively fight against my ED and this song became the soundtrack to it. So far recovery is going well and I'll keep your song in my heart for the coming ups and downs. Thank you

Orla, it's INSANE how well your music videos compliment your music (and vice versa!). A lot of artists nail the music and just throw together a video, or at least it feels that way to me, but you extend the meaning/love/effort that goes into the song into the video. It's like a feedback loop of talent. ❤️
