The Ender 3 and its clones have reached economies of scale. The design is refined to the point almost every problem has a solution.

The key to "solution" for a beginner is being able to find the solution and soeaking as a beginner no printer is beginner friendly. At least the Ender 3 s1 pro is far from beginner friendly.

@@dovan4092 prusa, qidi, ultimaker, and Bambu printers are all much easier to use for beginners than cheaper printer companies such as creality, sovol, and elegoo make cheap printers with large build volume but they have bad quality control, reliability, user friendliness, support, and quality.
I wouldn't buy ultimaker printers though based on the $3000 price for the cheapest printer and they're only 2.85mm filament size and they don't have a community.

@Do van It depends how mechanically and technologically savvy you are. I got my first printer only a few months ago, and thanks to my natural abilities and the wealth of info online I had almost instant success and grew from there. But I was acutely aware when setting my Ender up that this would be a nightmare for someone who is less technical. I see a lot of people online giving up on their Enders because they have never been able to get them to work properly, and even very capable people struggling because they throw everything at it rather than being methodical about trouble shooting.
The hobby could be made more user friendly with these next generation printers like the Bambus, but it's never going to be beginner friendly. There's just too many variables. Look at the number of settings in Cura and tell me you're average person is going to handle that without a difficult learning curve.

    • @Patrick-857
      @Patrick-857 Рік тому +3

@@dovan4092 I think Enders are great if you are determined. You will learn everything you need to know on one, because you have to learn. These machines won't hold your hand, but ghey are as simple as they can possibly be.

The Ender 3 has been a great learning platform, I learned to trouble shoot problems, printed out upgrades, added features. Its provided a great tinkering experience. Yes I could have bought a printer with the upgrades incorporated, but what I wanted was the experience of doing it myself. This is basically the entry level erector set (old reference) of 3D printing.

THe great thing about the Ender 3's popularity, is its popularity. Tons of info out there on profiles, repairs, mods, etc. Compare it to a good basic car like a Ford Explorer, tons made and sold. Lots of info and parts are abundant. Compared to having a higher end Jaguar or or similar that is going to cost more to fix if you can even find a mechanic. It might be the better vehicle for some but not for the masses.

    • @five-toedslothbear4051
      @five-toedslothbear4051 Рік тому

I would compare it to a Ford Model T, which was a very simple, easy to maintain car. It did its job, moving people around, but back in the day, people would mod and upgrade their Model T with things like electric lighting, electric start, etc. Yes, it was an early car, but it was a very popular early car that spawned a generation of shadetree mechanics.

I've bought, used, and sold Ender 3 pros. They are simple, a workhorse, and require minimal maintenance. I bought and had three of them running 24-7 to build face shield headbands during the early days of the pandemic with virtually zero downtime. I have started several people with 3D printing with this model and minimal assistance needed after they start printing with it. Chuck's vid's made my job easy for the newbies. I hope there will always be a base model like this available. The KISS principal is certainly in play here. Best way to dip your toes in the 3D printing world with a printer that will actually work and is not a toy.

I upgraded the heat break with the bi-metal suggested and followed the instructions for the bed leveling, which is now adjusted to perfection. I've added Octoprint server on an old netbook and I can print from anywhere. No complaints.

  • @Christopher_Gibbons

The machine itself is great. The problem is Creality. They are just phoning it in and doing as little as possible. Zero QA testing. They just dump hardware onto these printers and hope they figure out software that can make it work later. They made a version of the sprite extruder, with the cr touch, specifically for upgrading the ender 3v2. If you install it and the firmware they provide, the very first thing it will do is ram the tool head into the side gantry. The solution is to manually edit the firmware yourself, as Creality still haven't fixed this after six months. They never fix anything, they just release new hardware instead.

The Ender 3s are reliable, solid printers and I still recommend them to people who are curious about 3D printing but aren't sure if they want to stick with it. At their price point, it's an easy way to test out one's interest while still getting a pretty reliable product.

Love the channel, thanks for the great information.
My background is in computer engineering, back when a computer was a computer, filled rooms yet had less power and memory than a base Ender 3.
I worked with various systems that had electromechanical parts like stepper motors and sensors so the Ender 3 is kind of nostalgic to play with. (Yes, I'm old).
I bought an original Ender 3 a few years back and have since installed (in no particular order):
    - Metal extruder
    - Linear X-Rail
    - BL-Touch clone
    - Dual z-axis
    - Silicone "springs" (haven't had to adjust the bed since - (yet))
    - X - belt tensioner
    - Y - belt tensioner
    - PEI magnetic bed sheet
    - Octoprint driven Klipper running on a laptop (so I effectively have a 64bit instead of 8bit processor driving the steppers etc.)
    - direct drive extruder for a while for some TPU printing but replaced with the original hotend because something broke and I'm not printing TPU right now.
I have printed panel covers, a filament guide, various fan shrouds but returned to stock because it worked well enough for my needs.
So it's mainly the motors, frame and hotend that are original and it just works ... slowly, but reliably. (Hope I didn't jinx it).
It's a fun thing to tinker with but I'm considering buying a Bambu Lab X1-Carbon for multi color, enclosed, fast printing so that my wife can queue things up and hopefully just "print things".
Thanks again for all you do...

Improved Boden Tube, Upgraded motherboard from 1.1.3 to 2.2.7, CR Touch...It is now so much better than I ever imagined. Now I want to keep upgrading it, and perhaps pick up a couple more.

I recently got into 3d printing. Imo, what I like about the ender 3 is that it forced me to learn as much as I could about the machine itself. Putting it together and troubleshooting to get perfect prints requires you to know the machine in and out. I know people who just jump to an expensive printer and don't really know or care how it works, it's nice to have that knowledge.

I think the Ender 3 is still a great starting printer. I have an Ender 3 Pro that I bought in February 2020 on the recommendation of a friend, just before the pandemic hit. Sure, I could replace it with an upgrade, but I've invested a lot of upgrades in it: BigTreeTech board, BLTouch, Swiss Micro hot end, better extruder gearing, a filament drier on the top rail, filament guides I modded myself, a belt-driven dual Z axis, and I have new bed plates to try out. Part of the fun has been modifying and adjusting the printer myself, learning how to build firmware, how to get better prints. In some ways, I like my setup better than how some of the upgraded models have been done. Your channel has also been a great source of advice.

The thing about the ender 3 Neo or pro is they have so much potential for so many mods and even though the other high end printers have way better specs they aren’t as mod-able as the ender 3 and the fact with an ender 3 you can print a direct drive, get better cooling have dual z axis and things like that. It really gives you that sense of accomplishment and that’s why I love them!

CHEP, I have had alot of trouble with my Ender 3 v2, not sticking to the glass bed, so I tried something crazy. I sandblasted the back of the glass, and to my amazement, everything sticks perfectly. Try it, share it. You have voice to let people know. I hope this helps some people withe same issue. I figured what the heck, try it. I recently bought a PEI flex plate,, but my new found glass works perfectly. Keep the videos coming.

My Ender 3 Pro is my workhorse. Sure, I have upgraded most of it, 3D printed a bunch of upgrades, tweaked and tweaked and tweaked, but it is always my go-to printer for just about anything I do. It taught me so much about how everything works and how to make things better. I have printers that are bigger, smaller, and/or faster, but I know if I send it to the E3P it will be dimensionally correct and will, more likely than not, finish and look good, if not great. It is simply what it is, a good and inexpensive place to start, and a good overall printer, especially if you are willing to put a little time and effort into setting it up.

The Ender 3 v2 was my foot into the world of 3D printing just like this Channel. Almost a year later my skill set has increased as my love of this hobby so I bought a Ender 5 plus, and a Sonic Pad. I have countless add ons and mods to fix just about anything that will break. But now I am rocking the XC1 combo and just received my 2nd XC1 combo. The Ender 3 will always be a good machine for the beginner due to cheap parts and a huge community for support and definitely a good place to start.

I bought my printer almost 2 years ago and started this really nice hobby which sometimes makes a bit of income.
I too got the ender 3 pro because of Scot's videos on mods (I like mods) and in those almost 2 years it got from a pretty affordable 3d printer with a simple design to a modded printer that is capable of more things. It may sound and may be more expensive now but the investment being done over a long duration it didn't hurt my pockets. Printing with it helped me understand what I want from it and what improvements I specifically need for it. It s a great starting point that can actually get pretty complex as it goes on. Even now I still buy/print mods for it and I know I'm not gonna stop soon

I got a V2 and considering all the QOL improvements I had to make, I would only recommend it to someone that likes upgrading things and tinkering, so far it has:
silicon bed springs, spring steel magnetic bed, aluminium thumb wheels, side spool holder, Z gantry braces, capricorn tubing, metal extruder, new Jyers firmware with 144pt UBL, CR touch, and i printed the Satsana style fan shroud when my stock one fell to bits.
I imagine for the cost of all those upgrades you can probably just get the V2 Neo

After 3 years, I would not mind more speed. It would be fine if I did not screw up or wear out another bowden tube. I print almost exclusively PETG. But in thinking that I need faster production for a current project, a second V2 and a glass bed and capircorn tubing seems like the way to go. It would be nice to have one set up for PETG and another for PLA when I don't need both for the same project. I would also like a longer bed, 220 even on the diagonal is cramping my style.

I already have a regular ender 3 and wanted a 2nd machine to expedite my big print projects, so I ordered a two pack ender 3 pro bundle from comgrow for 85$ with discount code. Seemed too good to be true but I decide to take my chances and it paid off big time. I received four machines, two new machines and two used. One of the used machines actually had the upgraded silent motherboard. I was able to frankenstein the two used machines into a single working machine. In the end I basically got three ender 3 pros plus a free upgraded motherboard for well under 100$.

I had a house fire. I lost just about everything . what hurt was losing my five printers. Had a nice little 3d farm starting. Now no the fire was not from them. Just bad wiring in my old house. I did just order a ender 3. It is just to start over after the house is rebuilt. It may still be a few months but I got it on sale. My first printer was a clone Andy A8 . had that since March of 2017. It was my little work horse. Hopefully the Ender 3 will take up that roll for me. Easy to setup ,use ,and repair is why I picked it out. Not slot of bells and whistles, but just what I was hoping for.

Great video Chuck. There will never be a 'perfect 3D Printer'. I have the original Ender 3 (have had it over 3 years). I am a tinkerer. I like to get basics machines and mod them into what I would like / need, rather than buy a 'ready made' one that may still not have everything I would like / need, or may have things I don't like and may never use. I have never had a problem with my Ender 3 and never broken anything on it. It does everything I ask of it, without a problem.

I bought a V2 Neo, which wasn't the cheapest available, but had a slightly better feature set, including auto be leveling. I don't know how anyone does without that feature. I've since put a Microswiss NG direct drive and all metal hotend on, I'm running it in an enclosure from Gudmaker, and I've changed to custom Marlin firmware thats been tweaked specifically for Ender3 printers that has tons of really great features that make the machine so much more capable. I have a collection of nozzles and print surfaces and I seem to be able to print anything from very soft TPU to Nylon.

My comment appears to be deleted. I'm using the Mriscoc Pro firmware. It's optimized for Ender series printers. You don't need to compile it either, it's very easy to install, just make sure you shorten the file name of the bin file, or it won't load on your machine. Massive improvement over the stock firmware, lots of nice quality of life features.

I have a non-pro Ender 3, only mods are direct drive and Marlin firmware. It works fine, most frequent problems are due to bad adhesion or insufficient bed leveling. In time I will probably upgrade it to all metal extruder and/or auto leveling but in the mean time it works fine 🤷

I started 3D printing last November and it was the Ender 3 Neo I chose. I've upgraded things like a bimetal hot end and some other things. I can easily print functional prints like Gridfinity bins with PETG (240C / 80C) at 80-100mms with .3 layer heights and .6 line widths (.4 nozzle) with no issues. I think it's more of an understanding on how everything works, keeping a level bed and how to use your slicer meticulously. Even with getting into this hobby more intermediate/advanced such as creating my own models in Fusion 360, I have no plans on getting rid of this printer.

I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. I bought an Ender 3 in 2020, and it worked great for the first few prints. I didn't use it for a few months because we got busy with other projects.
It was OK for a few other things but for the last 6 months it's been pretty much useless.
IF I can get it to print and stick to the bed, then it's a stringy mess, or I get gaps and blobs. I have tried EVERYTHING - a glass bed with glue stick , a new nozzle, the Capricorn trick with your plastic washer and PTFE tubing, new springs, a metal extruder etc etc etc. I have watched SO many videos - bed leveling, z-axis adjustment, hot head maintenance, and so forth.
NOTHING helps and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I watch people say they only have to level their bed every dozen prints or so and I marvel. EVERY time I try to use my printer it's a fight.
People have told me I just must have gotten a bad printer but I can't afford to gamble on a new one now, and at this point I'm extremely reluctant to buy any new upgrades since nothing has worked so far.
