I knew Aldo Colombini and Rachel Wild-Colombini. Aldo was brilliant and just the funniest, sweetest gentleman you could hope to meet. Much of his stuff was easy to perform but also absolutely baffling for spectators. Very ‘smart’ magic without a lot of sleight work. I miss them both. So glad that you credited him here and that you’re keeping his memory and legacy alive by doing so and by sharing his magic.

When I did this for my twins, I changed the story a little - asked one of them if they wanted to be kings or queens, then the other red or black. Then told them the two detectives were them, and the single card that was picked was Swiper who had swiped their snacks.

I love tricks that involve some kind of maths so I can teach kids that maths can be magic and fun. Many of your “Easy Tricks” involve counting or rely on the position of cards and this is another of those.
I add two more cards to the “suspects” pack so I have three rounds of “interrogation” but you have to remember which cards to discard and which to keep.

I met Aldo, Andie his first wife, and Rachel about a dozen times at conventions and lectures in or near California where he lived many years. I worked out a setup for Shenanigans that leaves a perfect rainbow and showed it to him. The idea has now been published in an unlicensed, but nice reprint called Leprechauns. To be fair, there is nobody left to collect royalties. He was a great guy, constantly telling self-deprecating jokes as he killed with his tricks. He told some of the best jokes! He specialized in card and rope tricks and created tons of them, in addition to demonstrating nearly every close-up trick that got published for decades - hundreds and hundreds of tricks. Aldo also loved coin tricks and he was great at those too. His premature demise was a real tragedy for magic.

That is a very well-thought-out, fun, and entertaining trick. Thank you for sharing and teaching it!. I love Aldo Colombini's creative and colorful magic. I had the pleasure of meeting him and performing a couple tricks for him (and vice versa) at a magic convention about 25 years ago. Sad he's no longer with us. No sexism intended, but I particularly like it with the Jacks as the detectives.Could even give them names such as "Detective Jack Spade" and "Detective Jack O'Club from Ireland." Either that or using two aces (two "ace detectives").

    • @lethalwolf7455

Would likely throw this one off, this one is partial sleight and mainly math based. Requires 52, if you incorporate Jokers you’d need to remove 2 other cards and it would work however(as long as a Joker wasn’t selected as the criminal)

Didn't explain how the card ended up between the detectives or how it ended up being the only card left. I'm thick headed though so can someone explain it in more detail?

What if the key card and their selected card are separated because of the two single cuts? 4:12
Also, how in the world do I keep coming up with 7 card every time I cut the deck? 6:32 It's aways 7 cards. Is it ever more?

A single cut will never separate the two cards unless the spectator manages to cut between the two cards, which will place the selection on top of the deck and the key card on the bottom - which is exactly the position you want them in. If this happens, you may need to remove the detectives as they have done the dirty work for you!
There will always be 7 cards between the detectives because of the position you place them in when you insert them into the deck.

@@MattMcGurk OK, but if the spectator manages to cut between the two cards, then does another cut....isn't the trick ruined? I only ask this because as I was practicing I actually did cut between the two card.

@@betterstepssingle cuts will never split the cards, as cutting doesn’t change the cyclical order of the cards. You’ll be fine.

@@lethalwolf7455 I'm sure overthinking is just one of my issues. This is literally the very first card trick I've tried to learn. I'm not a magic guy but believe I should know at least one cool card trick. Why? For the ladies.

You are not putting the jacks in the correct position at the top and bottom of the deck. Double check this and you should be fine. 👍
