Here to explain the last trick for those interested in it: the way it works is you always draw 44 cards. For example: if you draw a King at first go that's 1 card drawn and 10 which will be drawn later so every stack means you'll draw 11 times meaning with 4 stack you always draw 44 times and since bottom 9th card is 44th from the topside you'll always draw the card
Love the plot to the first trick. I've seen other variations where at the end you have the spectator choose a four or five letter "magic word" for the final reveal, but using the word "truth" is much cleaner.
Something about your style... entertaining, and you clearly have a passion for teaching. Plain to see. Love this channel! Great tricks. I don't know why, but I am especially fond of #3
Thanks Steve! And yes, I’ve found that after years of performing, I also get as much enjoyment out of teaching magic. I love the community here in UA-cam.
I love your card tricks….I love them even more when I do them for my family and entertain them. I really love the tricks that don’t have a set up. Thank you so much. I have been a fan of close up card tricks for many years.
I really like the Ace in your Face one! It’s a unique looking trick. I think the “folding” idea will really make it stand out for an audience member. Really neat! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this video Matt. Really easy to follow, and just great all-round presentation. I thought of a variant to the first one, which could confuse the person you're showing the trick to even more. If when they have selected their card and put it to the bottom of one pile you get them to place that pile on a second one, but then give them the choice to put it on top or below the last pile. If they choose on top follow your original method, but if they choose to go underneath then spell out "THE" card of choice. E.g. "THE ACE OF SPADES. 😉 I've tried it a couple of times and think it works (unless I've just been lucky!) 😂
Man that sounds awesome 🤩 I guess you’d have to ask them if the put the card on top or underneath, but I don’t think that it would detract from the trick at all. Real congratulations on taking this and finding something new with it, you have a gift! Awesome thinking. I’ll play about with this. Great stuff bro! 👊
For the first one you can also spell another word that contains 5 letters instead of spelling "Truth". What I like doing is spell my spectators name (only if it contains 5 letters). Third one also you can spell another word that contains 9 letters instead of spelling "Card Trick". It all depends on your creativity. Aside of all that, this is a great tutorial especially for begginers.
Many thanks for the newer great tricks! Unfortunately the first one does not functional hungarian :( I knew the third one little bit different. I think it is ,,functioning" that way, the chosen card is in the 9th position from bottom (Card trick = 9 letter), thats mean, is 44th position from top. We count 4 times from 10 to 0. It is no matter, if we count 1 card (in case of 10), and add later 10, or we count 11 cards, (in case of no match), add add later 0. And the the same procedure with the other numbers in case of other matches. (in case of match with 7, we count down 4 cards, and add later 7). It does it mean, we got always 11 per pile, and the 4 pile are all together 44, which one is always the choosen card.
Well hopefully that doesn’t happen! In the unlikely event that it doesn’t the face down on top of the last pile well be the chosen card. You usually always get a few matches though.
Hey on the Truth card trick. To add a mix in. You can deal cards into two piles from left to right then pick up the piles from left to right. Then deal again left to right then pick up the piles right to left this resets there card 3rd from the top. 😊😊
I have used this trick method for years, only I dress it up a little different, as a prediction. Let the spectator shuffle and deal out 12 cards, you try to spot the bottom card and make your prediction. They pick up the 12 cards, look at them and select any four, which they put on table face up. Then place the deck on the 8 left over cards. You can then pick up the deck and very deliberately and openly deal a card on each of the face up cards to bring each total to 10, like add three cards to a 7 or 6 cards to a 4, nothing to a 10. Total of the face up cards is where the prediction is.
Love all of the these tricks. Especially ones I can link to maths. The first trick, LIE DETECTOR works because you aren’t really shuffling the cards at all. You are just reversing the position of your chosen card from top to bottom with each count. Practise the trick with just the chosen card face up and it will make sense. EXPLANATION. * After your volunteer has seen the bottom card of one of the three x 3-card packs and you place that pack on the others, the chosen card will be third card from TOP. * When you next count the cards face down, your card will always end up third from the BOTTOM , regardless what you count. Now, when you next count “O”, “F” and place the remaining pack on top those two cards your card will ALWAYS end up fifth card from bottom. Next, count any number of cards face down and your card will always end up fifth card from the top. Finally, any five letter word, like TRUTH, will take you to the chosen card. Everything else is just brilliant flimflam. Thank you so much for this. 🙏🏼
I'm laughing for pure happiness (again). At first I thought, 'Matt missed the explanation for the first trick!' Then I thought, 'try it out, dummy...' So I did, and it worked, and I realized that no explanation was necessary.
Great tricks and great channel. The last trick (countdown) has a little kink! If you use above a certain amount of cards (probably the same) or the number added together amounts to more than 26, then you have to subtract 1 from the number you lay down before the selection.
No you should never need to do this. Just a full deck of 52 cards. As long as when you don’t get a match you put a facedown card on top of the pile and move on to the next then you’ll be fine.
@@MattMcGurk Well I did the trick and the first it didn't add up, so I did it about 10 or eleven times. I got a "failure" rate of 4-5, each time when I got to the very high numbers. The position of the card is 44, so if you go all the way without hitting an identical card then you will end up with 44 cards in the 4 piles and therefore the next card won't be the "one". I've added up the math and if you get 3 piles of no identical, then you will end in this situation as well. I will be using these no setup tricks in my math teaching to make teaching fun, no setup card tricks are either manipulation or math, so that's why they'll great in teaching.
i love the last trick. What I love to do after they have selected the card that I add some false cuts so the spectactor thinks his card is completly lost
Not at all, although it’s not as impressive. It just means that the final facedown card that you would cover the fourth pile with, would be the selected card.
The trick is a countdown of 44 cards (4 piles of 11 cards). When you get a match you are saving the rest of the "countdown" for that pile until later when you add up the cards. the 44th card from the top is the 9th card (CARDTRICK) from the bottom. IF you don't get any match, it may make the trick more obvious.
@@MattMcGurk I honestly still don't know how it works, but I added 2 alternative endings, and some twists. Alt endings...1) write down a prediction (5) while they are shuffling and handling the cards, and reveal it to count down to their card. 2) when they are all done counting out the "lie", ask them to fan out the cards facing you and just think of their card. (Edit) Pretend you couldn't pick up their thoughts well enough. Ask them to shuffle the cards and place them on their forehead and really concentrate. Now do the reveal! Twists: 1) I never touch the deck 2) they just "think" of the lie card, 3) I turn my back the whole time with my fingers in my ears humming, so there's no way I could know the lie card. Trust me, I blew my own mind doing this. Thanks again Matt! Awesome stuff!
Been sitting here all pissed off trying to do countdown for the last hour with it never working, only to realize I had been playing it with a deck of 51. Oh man.
I just wanted to share my passion for magic with as many people as possible. UA-cam makes that possible. I also enjoy making videos so it seemed like a good fit .
Mathematically it’s impossible that it can’t work, as the card will always be 44th from the stop. So even if you get no matches, it will be the last face down card in the last pile. Make sure it’s a full deck of 52 cards, no jokers. Good luck 🤞

Totally! 💯 It hits hard. Enjoy!
that 3rd one is great, but tbh this could have just as easily been 3 separate videos, they are all good!
Thanks man! Yes I’m going to put some shorter tutorials up and see how they go 👍

Hi, Matt,
Another 3 little 💣 pack that's gonna blow away the spectators. SPECTACULAR! Greetings from Calcutta, India. ❤️👍🙏🏼🇮🇳
Hello there! Thanks man! Enjoy!
Really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Have to go to party tomorrow and desperately learning the first trick. Never done a public trick in my life!!!😮😅😊😅😮
You got this! 💪

@MattMcGurk Man, that worked like I never thought it would: added loads of blah blah, and they were dumbstruck! Thanks so much for that demo!!!
That’s awesome

Love it! Sorry about the first trick, my Hungarian is a little rusty 😂
Great easy tricks! Thanks. One question on the countdown trick. What do you count an Ace as? One?
Yes, ace is one ☝️
What do you do when you pull four tens for the start of each pile? Also, what do you do when you close off all four piles?
Well hopefully that doesn’t happen! In the unlikely event that it doesn’t the face down on top of the last pile well be the chosen card. You usually always get a few matches though.

trick number 3 always comes up 2 cards short of the selected card for me....??
i'm an idiot. jokers. 54 cards. 😜😂
WHAT 😮😮😮!
Sir
Your tutorial explanation is the best among other magicians.
Very nice .Thanks a lot.
So nice of you. Thank you!
What to do when no card matches?
Ok, I got the answer
The countdown trick accidentally made me do a trick where I make the card dissapear. (and no, i havent found it back yet)
Wow, bonus magic!
That first trick is sick! I already fooled 2 people in my family, three if you count me.
😂😂😂

I know I different type of the lie detector, you only need 7 cards!
I know a version with 1 card, but it’s not very impressive 😂
I know one I combined with another trick it works every time
I hop you make to 100k subs even 1mil subs. 😊😊
