#Snufkin (original Swedish: #Snusmumrik[en] or Mumrik[en], Finnish: #Nuuskamuikkunen or Muikkunen) is a character in the #Moomin series of books authored by #Swedish-speaking Finn Tove Jansson, appearing in six of the nine books. He is the best friend and arguable love interest of the series' protagonist, #Moomintroll, and lives a nomadic lifestyle, only staying in #Moominvalley in the spring and summer, but leaving for warmer climates down south every winter.[1][2] He is the son of the elder Mymble and the Joxter, and is half-brother to the Mymble's daughter and Little My.
Tune Basics is the popular music #education series created by #NewZealand based #musician/content creator Kerin Gedge. It is designed to teach anybody who wants to learn the fundamentals or very basics of how to play #MusicalInstruments which includes #DiatonicHarmonica, #TremoloHarmonica with 24 holes, Tremolo #Harmonica with 16 holes, Tremolo Harmonica with 20 holes, #ChromaticHarmonica, kalimba with ten keys, recorder and #PennyWhistle (also known as #TinWhistle).
The aim of Tune Basics is to acquaint the student with clear graphic based #instructions for how to play simple and recognisable songs. Tune Basics will typically avoid delving too deeply into technique or musical styles but will, where possible, provide the pupil with relevant links to professional musicians who can take the learner deeper when they are ready to move on from basic #lessons.
Generally speaking Tune Basics will focus more on popular songs that are in the #PublicDomain. This is to protect the channel, Kerin Gedge, from any complications that may arise due to copyright claims. But it also aids the musical student with the belief that most popular public domain songs are already deeply embedded in the player’s subconscious, which lends itself to the learning experience. For example tunes like #TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar, #HappyBirthday or even #ChristmasSongs like #SilentNight or #JingleBells are so entrenched in modern western minds that learning the songs is “easy” because you’re already half way there!
Although on occasion #KerinGedge will provide a lesson on a modern popular song without monetising the video. Examples include #TheCoffinDanceMeme which became very popular during 2020, #BillyJoel’s #PianoMan or #Snufkin the harmonica playing wanderer from the #Moomin series.
#TuneBasics also provides #HarmonicaTabs #TinWhistleTabs /#PennyWhistleTabs and #KalimbaTabs on the Tune Basics blog, link provided above. Please be sure to browse our #TABS list as often we will provide TABS that are yet to be animated into #Tutorials. In other words you may find TABS for songs that aren’t available on the channel.
TuneBasics believes that ANYONE can learn to play. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what your musical background is. If you can follow the simple instructions provided in these videos then you’re well on your way to becoming a musician. But don’t expect to “get it” right away. Practice will always make perfect. Sometimes you may need to watch these tutorials a few times to get the hang of it. Most songs on Tune Basics are broken up into simple manageable phrases so learn one phrase at a time! Pause, practice and then continue. And when you’re ready to move onto more complicated lessons check out #LiamWar at #learntheharmonica.com or #TomlinLecki at #tomlinharmonicalessons.com.

Snufkin image recreated in good faith under fair use, this video is not monetised.
I learned how to play this song by ear, and I'm such a big fan of the Moomins! Now I know I got the notes right.
I just got my harmonica today and I'm excited to finally learn Snufkin's song :')
Cool! Did you master it? Thanks for watching :)
I sure hope you've learned the whole lineup by now, friend.
I don't even have a harmonica, I'm just a huge Moomin Valley and Snufkin fan. :)
Good for you!
I don’t even play an instrument but I’m subbing because this is the most precious video I’ve ever watched. Thanks for the lesson regardless!
Best comment ever, thanks:)
The only reason I bought a harmonica was for *this* only. Thank you so much for having this video up!
cool, good luck!

Omg, this is the reason why I bought a harmonica. I was just scrolling through your channel and boom, it was right there.
Perfect!
Thanks for making this! I just got into the Moomin fandom, and I happen to have a harmonica but never knew how to play it. Even as an absolute beginner, I was able to easily understand this tutorial and now I can at least kinda play the song (needs some work though). I hope to see some other Snufkin song tutorials sometime (if there aren't more already)!
You're so welcome!
Well animated an explained again. Kind regards, Ben
Thanks Ben! :)
You must be a female
Because your and doesn’t have a D
As a huge Moomin fan, thank you so so so much! Agh can’t wait to learn this :))
You're welcome!!

hehe i got my harmonica!!! so excited to start learning this song. tysm for the tutorial 💕
Yay! Good luck!
Snufkin is one of my main inspirations to learn harmonica. But I never actually did it. Nom I started for different reasons and I remembered about Snufkin. Thank you for this video!
That's awesome!
I'm applying this to my 24 hole harmonica by notes, thanks always been a huge fan of the moomin series.
I am making a 24 hole one, it's just at this time of year I tend to get a flood of interest in Christmas songs so I've got to run with that for a while:) Good luck!
My brother got a harmonica yesterday and the first thing I thought of was snufkin and his spring tune so thank you for this video I'm still practicing the first part but I know it will be worth it!
Awesome:)
Very excited to learn this, thanks very much

thank you for writing out the notes! I've been trying to find snufkins harmonica melodies with notes for a while now, I was just about to give up and just figure it out myself when I saw this video. ofc, only finding harmonica tabs wouldn't have been an issue if I actually had a harmonica... oh well, I prefer my kalimba
Glad I could help! Good luck!
This is the reason which I'm learning to play ocarina because i love the moomins and Snufkin is my favorite character, thanks for this video!!!!
Awesome! Good luck and thanks for watching :)
My harmonica just arived and im so excited to learn snuffs song! Ive just got up to part 3 :D
Did you learn the whole song? If you get a chance, please visit my TABS page :) tunebasics.blogspot.com/2019/09/harmonica-tabs.html
I recently learned how to play both Snufkin’s tune and Love Me Do on my harmonica, which is funny because both Snufkin and John Lennon are personal idols of mine who both played harmonicas with their own unique backstories (Snufkin inherited his from his sick aunt, while John stole his from a shop in Ireland while on a trip).
Thank you so much for making this video !!
You are welcome! If you need new tabs keep an eye on my TABS page, I try to add new tabs every week! tunebasics.blogspot.com/2019/09/harmonica-tabs.html
i want to learn harmonica songs such as this and blues and polkas!!!

This is amazing, thank you so much
You're very welcome!
Thank you very much. Very well made tutorial. I had the song known by the end of the video.
Glad I could help!
You king bro!!!!
Thanks 😊
Thank you so much for this video!!!!
You are so welcome! Good luck!
7:35 (this is just for me to practice the end of the song)
no problem 😊
I’ve been trying to breathe into 3 on 4., but it sounds very muted and it’s very difficult to. Any advice?
What type of harmonica are you using?
❤❤❤
:)
Can I play this the same on a Chromatic Harmonica? I just got mine today and I assume it’s the same, just don’t use the slide. If it’s entirely different, I’d love a video for the chromatic harmonica for this song if you could.
I'm working on it, this tutorial is not 100% accurate though, to play this song conpletely right you have to use a chromatic, go to learntheharmonica.com channel, there's a great tutorial there
@@KerinGedge no rush, but it’s cool that you’re working on it

Hi can you please give a tutorial of how to play believer by imagine dragons on the 24 holes harmonica
Hey, I wish I could but these days, to keep my channel safe, I only do public domain songs! Good luck!
As someone purely new. Mine has like 32 holes. is it still the same concept? Or do I have to do something different?
you have a tremolo harmonica with 16 holes... go to my playlists and find lessons for tremolo :)
As someone who's not a harmonica player, what type of harmonica would you recommend for this? (and a beginner looking to start)
Diatonic, chromatic, or tremolo?
I'd say the most common to start with is a diatonic... however, I discovered a while after making this that one of the notes is not quite right, meaning the song can only be played 100% properly on a chromatic... check out this lesson by Liam Ward and you'll see what I mean ua-cam.com/video/HWysH3909QE/v-deo.html
@@KerinGedge Thank you! This was what I was thinking as well.
(Six hours ago when I wrote the comment I hadn't even looked up what chromatic was)
Thanks for the quick response.
Could anybody help me out?
I can’t really read music very well when it has things like g, f and d but I was wondering is anyone could help me with turning it into numbers eg 5, 6 etc. my mum likes Moomin and I want to learn it to teach her…
Thank you!
well in this case just follow this finger, you can ignore the letters entirely. But if you were to google harmonica tabs you'll find that most tabs focus on the numbers any way. Is your harminica in the key of C? Let me know what key it is in and I can tell you another trick.
@@KerinGedge hmm I don’t really know… sorry! It’s an old harmonica I found in my house, which quite frankly it just came into my house on a sunny morning! It has 10 holes in it which probably doesn’t help. If you know how to tell them that would be amazing!
Thank you!
Is the Moomin song the same as the one in my tutorial? Snufkin never aired in my country
@@KerinGedge umm yeah I’m pretty sure! I haven’t watched it that much but I think that’s it. Btw thanks again for helping me! The tutorial is very good, with the fingers pointing at which hole to blow in. :)
What if my harmonica has much more holes?
Oh nvm it still sounds nice :)
If you need new tabs keep an eye on my TABS page, I try to add new tabs every week! tunebasics.blogspot.com/2019/09/harmonica-tabs.html
You dont need chromatic harmonia for playing this?
Technically you do if you want to hit the f# but in this version I just substitute it with an f and I dont think it sounds too bad
Does it matter if I buy a harmonica in the key C or G? Like, is there a specific difference?
No not really, not for starting out at least, the only difference will be the pitch, but the TABS will be exactly the same.
it's very much possible for anyone to write their own tabs after watching this?
Yep, but there's a link to the tabs in the description to save them the hassle:)
Sir can you play the song immaculate lady please ( 10keys harmonica please 😶)
Hey, I'm not familiar with that song, can you send me a link to it?
Man, does this include the regular flute?
I'll be making a tutorial for Tin Whistle and Recorder... not sure how the finger positions translate to flute though!
@@KerinGedge thanks anyway!
Hey, oops probably not this year... but I'll make some tabs today and stick them on my blog for you...
Could I use a ocarina instead?
I'm sure you most likely could play it on Ocarina
@@KerinGedge thanks I'll give it a shot
How did you go?

I had to put this into number form cuz my small smooth brain is weird like that, and that was such a funny experience. It was like cracking a code lmao cuz I was sittin there translating numbers into letters. I have a red and blue color-coded mess on a single sheet of printer paper and it's hilarious to look at.
I hope you were able to nail it!
